Annie - I'm really proud of all you've done, and I don't know if you've realized, but what you've done most is simply persevere. You no longer eat something that wasn't what you planned and decide your day is ruined so you go ahead and binge. Once you've eaten it, you go right back to your plan. That's the key, dear heart. It's been a pleasure to watch you challenge yourself, persevere and reap the benefit of seeing the scale drop and feeling better about yourself.
Heather - Hope you enjoy your London trip, and glad you're taking the earlier train. I always prefer to give myself plenty of time for those kind of excursions. I'd rather suffer a little boredom than be late for something, and there's always something to look at in London.
LeeAnne - It sounds like you are on track to getting your life and health where you want them. Well done!
Tracey - Yep, the updates on the backup laptop worked like a charm. It's so much faster... The matching T's for the girls sounds lovely.
Terri - OK, I have to know - what IS the Hogwarts Relay? You do the most interesting things...
Machka, Kim, Karen, Hope all's well, thinking about you.
More in a bit...
Love,
Lisa

Heather, Taking the earlier train is a great idea. That will relieve a bunch of your stress.
Lee Ann, You are making good progress. Taking baby steps and staying the course are the most important things. Perseverance will get you where you want to go.
Katla, you seem to have settled in a peaceful routine in your new world.
Yesterday we got the check from our friend who is buying our Subaru. Unfortunately we haven't received the title from our lender so she can't register the car in her name yet. Then we drove to our financial adviser's office an hour away to deposit the check so we could write a check using the funds today to buy our new car. The drive is through beautiful rural country and a bridge over the beautiful Hood Canal so it was like the vacation drives we used to take all the time. This morning we will rendezvous with our friend who bought the Subaru to drive to Seattle (another beautiful drive that will include a ferry ride across Puget Sound). She will drop us at the car dealer and drive home. We will transact our business and get some lessons on the nuances of an electric car and drive home in the afternoon. It is exciting and scary.

Good morning ladies!
I lost three pounds! Yay!
Thank you very much to my supporters, I couldn't have done it without you, especially Lisa, Barbie, and Evelyn.
Now I'm in position to hit 159 by the end of the challenge, Yay! I have been in the 160's and 170's for maybe eight years, so this is a real goal for me. This will be the end of bouncing around and the start of a new me!

Annie ~ You are to be highly commended for your diligence in losing weight. Congratulations!
I made shrimp and ham jambalaya last night from a Food Network recipe. It was delicious! I am really bad about following recipes but this cam out well.

Morning, afternoon and evening all...
Barbie - hope your car buying trip turns out well. Safe travels...
Began writing this at 7 a.m., but it looked like dusk outside from the storm. This system hit us at 2.45 a.m. with a massive BOOM and electricity flickered off just for a few moments. I know it was 2.45 because it shook the house and woke me up. The next few hours were just sleeping in between the flashes and thunder cracks. Finally got up at about 6 a.m. The storm is going around us for the moment but more to come soon, most likely.
Talked to Corey on our good morning call and he said the winds must have bad in town, there were electricity poles down and other damage there. We seem to have missed most of the wind up here in the foothills, but definitely got the lightning.
I made it through 11 minutes on the elliptical yesterday, first time in a long time. Apparently, dropping my heart meds in half is helping me at least a little--never lost my breath, just stopped at 11 minutes because I'm horribly out of shape! Time to get moving again, I'm thinking...
I feel a little as if I've given in to the overlords, because I finally subscribed to an Amazon product to be delivered regularly. It's Macadamia Cookie coffee, 96-count for the Keurig. I drink only cup per day, so I decided to subscribe for delivery every three months. Saved quite a bit--plus I get five percent back on my Amazon credit card. I can skip a delivery or cancel any time I wish. I've always been terribly reluctant to try their subscription services because there is little that either one of us eats or drinks on a regular basis, and I am so forgetful that I might not remember to cancel something when we no longer use it. We'll see how it goes.
Off to the races, my chickens,
Love,
Lisa in AR7 -
Lisa yay for getting on the elliptical! 11 minutes is a great start.

Lisa, We have subscriptions (repeat delivery) from Chewy and Petco for Bessie and from Isagenix for the shakes and bars that we eat daily. They work for me because I pay attention to them and because they remind me a few days before the scheduled send in case I want to change the order or change the date. I like the convenience and the savings.
I had to cut my morning walk short to have time to shower and dress and eat my snack. We leave in just a few minutes.
Carol, congrats on following the recipe. Next step is to make it again soon so you are more comfortable with it and it becomes yours.

Hi ladies! I hope you don't mind if I jump in. My name is Tracie. I'm 63 years old and live in Wisconsin. I've participated in this thread randomly through the years but it's been awhile. I'm no longer working since losing my job to the Covid furloughs back in 2020, and here I am 3 years later still trying to figure out my new life. I hadn't planned to retire until full retirement age, so it's been an adjustment both mentally and financially...not to mention being with my DH 24/7 which I'm finding can be both a blessing and an annoyance!
I love the companionship of this thread. It feels like a coffee klatch. I miss the daily chatting with coworkers.
I'm curious if any of you who are retired had a difficult time adjusting? I'm finding it difficult. It feels like I have no purpose. I don't remember having hobbies (besides reading) because I really did work a lot and during my off hours I raised my family & helped take care of grandchildren. I think I defined myself by my career and role as mom/grandma and lost who I really am inside somewhere along the line. I might not be describing it well, but there it is... Any tips on moving forward? I just feel rather stuck!
I hope you all have a great day and weekend!

Today’s gratitude (7/14) waking up to blue skies.
For the first time in decades, weight was below 130 this morning, thanks to Kay’s ReddiWhip instead of honey in my yoghurt and Debbie’s sweet spicy tea instead of my sugar sweetened Lemon Lift. Within 5 lbs of my wedding weight 35 years ago, though sadly not distributed in the same places :{ Imagine it will bounce back up and around but sure helps the monthly average ;}
Debbie, Grocery Outlet had a 4-pack of the organic Good Earth Sweet and Spicy Tea for $8.99, I got the last pack here but there might be more in your area.
Still only to pg 20, have much catching up to do but need to do PT and dog training first.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Welcome. I’m retired too but I didn’t have one bit of a problem adjusting. I was happy that I didn’t have to get up at 4-4:30 in the morning and put on my bike gear to go to the gym then work. I don’t have kids but had 3 dogs who are like kids except they mind better. I thought I would end up volunteering or something but I don’t even have time for that. My husband and I are very active so with the kids (dogs) our day fills up. You’ll fight it out, take your time.5 -
Tracie in WI
I retired early for health reasons, and it took me years to adjust, partly because it seemed like everyone my age was still working. Give yourself time to adjust, and gradually it will come. I know that's pretty vague, but at least know you are not alone.
Oh and welcome back to the thread!

Did a ride this morning, left at 5:15am, it was dark out. Don’t worry, I was lit up like a Christmas tree. I was able to get 30 miles in.
I’ve increased my standard for MS miles . I’m ahead by 593.07. We are going camping next week so I won’t be adding anymore mikes unless I ride tomorrow, we’ll see

Well im back ,was out in the rain and thunder.. got my eye exam done and my eyes dilated so wore sunglasses in the rain and had to take tylenol because i had a headache. Both my arms arw bruised from yesterday's fiasco of trying to find a vein and I just wacked my hand in the closet so another bruise
As Rosanne Rosanadana says its always something.lol
Got my eye script
And changed ships for next years cruise with the travel agent.. so thats something.. so im back home..
Miles decided he was tired this morning so walked over to the porta crib and leaned on and Josie put him and he fell right to sleep
I think he is getting the swing of things now. Lol thats my boy..7 -
Annie – I, too, am very impressed that you might fall down, but you get right back on the horse. See, you do lose
Most times I make a recipe the way it’s called for. Then I make it again with things that I’d like (like in a different pan. I just made a banana bread – good taste. Only the recipe says to make it in a bundt pan. I really thought it should be in a loaf pan so the next time I made it, I made it in a loaf pan.)
Barbie – good luck on the car buying
Tracie – wb ! I know when Vince retired, he had the hardest time adjusting. I didn’t, but he did. He would tell me how to do the dishes. I’d only been doing them for 23 years – didn’t he think I had it figured out? My advice would be to start a hobbie. We started taking ceramics.
Barbara – congrats on the weight.

1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy. I really need to do this today. Did not do this. Had a bad day all around yesterday.
8. Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today. I will try.
9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture. Trying to see my son’s decisions through his eyes.
11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation. My son is bonding with his uncle and grandmother.
12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”. I will try to remember to do this. Write them in my journal.
13. Challenge negative thoughts. Find an alternative interpretation. I worked on this. I also learned a breathing technique to help.
14. Get outside and move to help clear your head. I do this every day, but the triple digit heat is preventing it.15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step.RVRita in NM
16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts.
17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today.
18. Let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that matter.
19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.
20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself.
21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life.
22. Find 3 things you feel hopeful about and write them down.
23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time.
24. Choose to see something good about what has gone wrong.
25. Notice when you are being judge mental and be kind instead.
26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath.
27. Write down 3 things you are grateful for (even if today was hard).
28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem.
29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right.,
30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support.
31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

Tracey WI-I have no retirement advice-I will be 69 in November and not sure when I want too! I am trying to be mindful about planning so I don't end up at loose ends. I think you just need to try a couple of new things-like ceramics, a gym membership, reading group-whatever sounds interesting. Some of my retired friends go to the local seniors center for activity and volunteer in food banks, etc. Welcome!

Barbara AHMOD - Well done! I haven't been able to bring myself to try on my wedding gown because of that same distribution issue, I'm afraid.
Tracie in WI - I remember you quite well... my first husband was a Packer fan from Milwaukee, so your username stuck in my mind. Welcome back! You and I are both the same age, and I retired at 60 as well, due to health issues... so I've just been treading water these last few years trying to get back. I do have a number of hobbies, but my attention span has been wrecked, so I'm still kind of flailing on that side as well. Writing helps. Glad to see you.
Annie - Thank you, dear.
Allie - Sounds like the little man is settling in fine... glad you're OK, but time to be more careful dear heart!3 -

Lisa I was going to tell you to try a reset on your failing laptop, but realized I never had the guts to try it on my old laptop. So I'm trying it now. I suspect it will revert to Windows 10, where it was happy. It says it will keep my files, but not my apps. So we shall see what's left.
Good luck with yours!

Allie - what a day, lady! Glad it's over, sorry to hear about the "leak". So nice you'll have a chance to participate in the study and $100 always comes in handy. Nice that Miles seems to be adjusting to daycare and its all working out well.
Rebecca - Athena's haircut is adorable. Boy it seems like she grew up fast. Your soup looked great! Sorry to see that leak in the kitchen, the landlord might be facing a huge repair job if it's not tended to quickly. How are your sisters doing? Communicating again?
Lisa - glad the computer update was OK on your other computer. I'm still on Windows 10 and so far it hasn't seemed to mess anything up on my laptop but I'm always apprehensive. Every now and then McAfee does a "clean up your cookies" task and it takes me a long time to rebuild things. Luckily I have everything saved as bookmarks - there was a time I wasn't that smart.
Heather - good job Max! What an accomplishment. It's been so much fun seeing him and the girls grow up in this group.
Car update - I took the Subaru in yesterday at 8:30, the service tech said it would take a couple hours to go through it. So I figured it would be done after lunch. I waited and waited for the phone to ring, it never did and finally called at 4:50 (shame on me for waiting so long) and left a message. I wanted to know the status. I called back at 4:59 and the phone had already switched over to "we are closed for the day, leave a message." Boy, did I, lol.
So I called at around 8:15 this morning, got the service tech and asked him what was up around there. He apologized half a dozen times, said the car was ready to go, it was in good shape except for that small head gasket leak which I knew about, and they will keep track of and sent the shuttle car right out to pick me up. I'm supposed to drive it for 100 miles then take it back in, they'll check for any new leakage and put in a new water pump, timing belt and a couple other belts. I'm feeling pretty good about it.
Drums going to auction: When I got home from the car shop, I got busy in the shop sorting and cleaning up the drums and equipment the auction house guys will pick up tomorrow. It went really well except I'm allergic to dust so paying the price right now. Once the drums and guitars are out of the office part I can keep that room dusted and vacuumed. Hopefully it will be my "exercise room" this fall and winter.
Romance: I messaged my BFF this morning and asked her if she knew how our running/hiking friend met Mr. Right. She said she thought it was on an internet hiking group. OK, that makes sense and was a good idea.
Then BFF said she knows a guy she thinks I'd like. He's super nice, older than me (nearly 80!) has great kids, and has Parkinsons. I joked around with her about it and then it struck me - I am perfectly content right now being alone and being 100% in charge of my space and time. No one knocking on the door to "visit" or me to hop in a car for a meal. No one calling me on the phone and expecting me to chit chat when I really want to be out with the chickens, lol. The fact that Bill has Parkinson's isn't an issue, it's having control as I mentioned. I don't even think I'd make an exception for a young Sean Connery, lol. OK he can get a hug on the porch then scram.
Besides, I've got it made. Roger is a phone call away to help with the chicken coop and weed my driveway. John on the west side of me trims the trees hanging on my side so I can mow then tosses the branches onto his side so his yard guy can pick them up. JB on the east side calls me every couple weeks when he's making a run to the filling station for gas and asks if I need any.
BFF's husband brings me firewood. Who can ask for more, at least right now? I might change my mind in the future. Roger's wife brought me a cute sign to hang by the chicken coop, she said they went shopping in Poulsbo and had to get it for me:
That sums it up.
Hot weather coming the next few days. I've been watching "Alone" on Roku TV History Channel. Watching these folks freezing their buns off in the Arctic makes me feel cooler already.
Have a great evening!
Lanette

Yes, and her sweet voice these days. She sent me a voice clip on Messenger.💖. We're friends of Facebook right? You need to hear it.💖🤗. Its hard to know how the owners son from Seattle will approach all the things that need done or will he say F it and try to sell it. So much needs to be done to make it "sellable" though so I know he needs the funds to keep his parents in the assisted living facility back east. The floor underneath is definitely getting hit with some sort of water source. There's waves in the linoleum, and the wood seems softer when you walk on that area of the kitchen. I'm afraid its already a big job. My sisters are pleasantly avoiding each other on any media platform. My eldest sister has her sale this Sat then Fri/Sat/Sun of the week after, so I'm sure she's been busy. The fact that they are almost 2 hours away from each other, and eldest sister said she'd never visit that house again it smelled awful. Then my middle sister doesn't get out of her basement ever or handle long trips well, the chances of those two actually meeting up is slim to none.

Rebecca- yes, I'm on Messenger, would love to hear her voice. If I was your landlord I'd at least try to find the source of the leak and stop that. But maybe with crazy housing prices, it doesn't matter if houses need major work. Anyhow, the pitfalls of being a landlord.
Tracie in WI - good ideas here for how to deal with retirement. I had a couple years of retirement before Covid hit and kept busy gardening, lunches with friends, Master Gardener activities - I'd put that in the "hobby" category.
Barbie- what a perfect day to be riding the ferry to Seattle! We used to go to the Olympic peninsula a lot for vacations and day trips, took the ferry and Hood Canal bridge. Great memories, loved taking the ferry ride. Hope your new car is spiffed up and the learning curve easy to navigate. We'll want to see pictures of course.
Barbara and Annie - stellar performances in the weight loss category. Way to go!
Car stuff - this morning I received a detailed inspection report on my Subaru's visit to the shop this week. Photos of the oil leak, where it had dripped, etc. This is part of their normal service. Maybe other shops do it too - I really appreciated it.
Auction stuff - the auction guys (actually guy and young gal) came at 9 and were loaded and out by 9:45. Very organized and efficient. He said musical instruments are "hot" items so we'll see. It's great to see all the room out in the shop now.
The thermometer is heading upward. We'll hit 90 today and tomorrow - it's nothing compared to what some of you gals have been dealing with for weeks. I'm going to resume watching "Alone" in the Arctic.
Stay cool and dry.

Hi all--is it okay to post here? I'm female and over 50, well...over 60 tbh. I joined MFP just a couple of days ago (after a several year lapse), but I saw this group listed and read through a lot of the posts. It seems like a very nice group.
To PackerFanInGB/Tracie: when I retired from the Air Force, I was a little lost, fully knowing that I didn't want to work as an RN anymore. So, I didn't, and my husband and I went travelling a bit, then I found myself taking lessons at a nearby riding school. I started volunteering there a couple times a week mucking, feeding, etc. I've always loved horses! After a while there happened to be an opening for staff, I applied and worked there until about 4 years ago when we moved from Ohio to NC. Long story short, my advice is when you do retire, find out what your passions are--and go for it, even if it's a volunteer thing. It'll make your heart happy.
Barb in NC10 -
Welcome FitBee9!
We have a couple of Air Force people and a couple of horse people. I still ride, but it's a very low key ride on very gentle horses. Especially in the heat. The horse I usually ride, Biscuit, is a white draft horse with the most delicate slow trot. I have been in pick-up trucks that bounced more. She is a gem.
Annie in Delaware6 -
Thanks, Annie!
Biscuit sounds like a dream. My favorite at the riding school was a grey Percheron (a draft), called Lena. Loved her to pieces as she was the first horse I cantered on in about a million years, lol. Love that you still ride!
