DH'S cauliflower cheese was excellent. Lovely not to have to do all the faff.
And he is still doing the washing up!
I had my spicy tomato juice at cocktail time. Really enjoyed it. Saves on a bit of alcohol. I also love carrot juice.
Max tomorrow at 9 am. Then off to The Regency for fish and chips for lunch. Can't wait! I resisted it all through the cruise, so I'm delighted to have Max for a good excuse. I will take the bus there. Don't know what the boys will do. Happy to walk back, as Max can let himself into the flat on the way.
Small pleasures.

Lisa - your spoiler was right on. I know I had and still have an "unnatural" relationship with food. Throughout my life, it got better and it got worse. I always wished I could be like my sister or even my DH. They could take one bite of a cookie, throw the rest away because they were full.
Heather - I really appreciated your comments. When we were young, why did some of us gain weight? Likely physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse played into it. Maybe genetics and lack of fresh & nutritious food when we were kids (moms worked, fast food, snack foods, pop.)
Then we used herculean efforts to lose the weight. I chose bulimia - massive overeating then semi-starvation for weeks or months for an event. I'm glad WW was around then to help me with eating better quality food, keeping me a little bit hungry but reaching my goal. Which was the slim/sexy ideal pushed back then. The years and gravity want me shaped differently now. I'm OK with that, just need to lose a bit of belly so my pants aren't tight around the waist.
Annie,Ginny, Katiebug and many of you have it down - keep high protein/healthy snacks around instead of cookies. I appreciate all of the ideas and suggestions. Keep them up - I need them.
Katiebug - Dave rocks! First, for turning off the TV during the day. Second, all of those steps. Good job Dave.
Debbie - I agree about saying "No". It's one of the most important things I've learned from you ladies in this group over the years. I'm still learning. Agreeing to do something when we don't want to or our hearts simply aren't in it isn't healthy for us. Glad you are taking control of the Ezie childcare situation. You get to decide what's best for you and your household. I really hope as time goes on, you and your DH continue to find things you like to do together. That's one thing I miss about my DH before he became ill.
Kelly - I hope you are weathering that strep throat. I had it once that I can remember, in middle school. Swollen glands, hurt to swallow and the whole thing. Sending big hugs to you and your kids. Have Tim and your son caught it?
Joy - sorry the smoke is back. Hope the barley crop is good and your garden thrives.
Tracey - sorry about your smoke too. I would think the fires are running out of fuel by now. Geesh!
Barbara - I forgot to mention, thank you for the Shanghai hospital move video. Looks like a great way to get circulation going.
Machka - I am hoping there's an easy fix for your knee. Sounds like it might be a little complicated, but I sure hope not. I know how much you love and need your exercise and how depressing it is when you (me and others here too) are sidelined due to injuries that inhibit our ability to walk and exercise using our feet and knees. Yet my ability to walk to the fridge isn't hampered.
Welcome back returnees and new gals! We are an eclectic bunch. Glad to have you here and keep coming back so we can get to know you.
Better get going. More I wanted to comment on but I've been at this off and on for hours now. Time to hit "post reply!"

Hi Gals,
I have been reading along…. But not saying much. I did a bit of traveling and don’t like to post that until I am back.
I went to Morro Bay, CA to visit a friend, she has had some mental health challenges the past few years, and has a very simple controlled lifestyle that works for her. So it is a planed quiet restful time near the beach for me. I can do 3-4 days and then it is a bit to slow for me and I am ready to get back into a more active lifestyle. So I am home.
A casual friend has opened her pool for lap swimming to a few of us, the pool is 30 feet long, I am going over twice a week, and am doing 60 laps in freestyle – I take a short break every 20 laps, my goal is 1 mile and that would be 176 laps - I am not sure I can get to that many – I don’t know when but they will close the pool for the winter. But for now it is a good workout. I was surprised to find that the other gals are swimming breast stroke – with their head up talking the whole time, I am burning a lot more calories. But I do socialize a bit when I get there and again before leaving. I really want to become closer friends to these gals but my first priority is the calorie burn.
Welcome to all the new gals! (and anyone just lurking) this is a busy forum, rarely does anyone respond to everything, but most times someone says something that is interesting enough to respond.
The comments about fasting – I know it works well for many, but don’t push if it doesn't work for you that is OKAY.
I had to fast for 24 hours prior to a colonoscopy (according to the paperwork) then drink the clean out solution. At about 20 hours there were snakes and dragons breaking through the walls of my bedroom chasing me around the house, I was scared to death. As I was ready to call 911 (our emergency services) I thought of calling the friend who was taking me to the colonoscopy she came over – talked me down enough and took me to the hospital where the colonoscopy was to happen. Talking to the Doc was scary as he kept shape shifting….. Hallucinations are SCARY - I have never had that before, After it was done and they got “food” in me via iv I was ok again.
After a later meeting with my primary doctor they will be altering the standard protocol for any other fasting I need to do. So my recommendation is start fasting with less hours and work your way up – unless there is no other option.
Smoke – like wildfire smoke and other crappy air situations, I came across this idea on the net so probably most have seen/heard this but just in case – using a standard box fan and a disposable furnace filter, (as close in size as you can find to your fan) attach with twist ties or plastic cable ties the filter to the back of the fan, cut a hole for the electrical cord and push it through then run the fan, it will move the air and filter it at the same time. When the filter is dirty just replace it. The fancy air filters are often hard to find when there is a sudden influx of smoke but this seems like a great option, and will help our pets who are not willing/interested in wearing a mask. There are commercial air filters who will get even smaller particles, but anything is better than nothing.
Allie – Try not to take it to personally that you were not invited, it was probably an oversight.
Machka- hope you get all the right medical care for your knee – ACL or MCL tears are tough
Heather – The watercolors are excellent, you have so much talent.
Rori – in my crazy schedule I had missed the page where you tell of your gentleman friend, so I scrolled back until I found it. I loved the no drama part! Enjoy!!!
Michele – I had also missed your gecko – Adorable!

Hello ladies!
I did 45 minutes on my bike! Longest time since I got it. No intervals today, because it is supposed to be a rest day. But I ate the calories so I had to do some exercise.
Annie in Delaware2 -
Went to our neighborhood fitness center this morning - did 15 minutes on the elliptical bike and 15 minutes on the treadmill. Followed up with a few reps on the various arm machines.
Karen - I'm in Virginia Beach

@cityjaneLondon : Wow! I love your painting. It's really pretty.
@exermom : Hope your stomach feels better by now. Will have to look for that Chobani, but stevia tastes bitter to me--the honey is a great idea. I think you said you live in the foothills in NC? I'm a ways due west of Asheville, into the mountains, a bit.
@Machka9 : Ugh, hurt knees are the worst--hope yours is feeling better!
@jennysikma : So sorry to hear about your dad. I also manage to eat my way through my feelings on any given day. I've had some breakthrough using Beck's Diet Solution (not a great title) that uses cognitive therapy to help overcome those panicky, anxiety, etc, etc. feelings when it comes to eating.
Hubs and I went for a hike on the AT (Appalachian Trail) this morning. I haven't hiked since February so it was good to get out and use different muscles for a change. We hit about 6 miles which was enough. Sweating buckets, lol. Right now, the trail is in its "green tunnel" phase with all the growth, so lookouts are limited.

Jeanne good job at the gym! We all started with short workouts and increased gradually. That's the way to do it!
FitBee9 hiking the AT! Wonderful! I did some in Pennsylvania as a child. Many years ago!
Today I ate 1306 calories. That's a lot for me. I did forty five minutes on my bike, Yay! My deficit today is only 14, but that's okay for Sunday. As long as I don't eat anything else, it will be fine.

Heather - Thou were't never a "raddled old hag," woman! I understand the feeling, though... I'm calling it "wrinkle river" in my case. I lean forward, and all the extra skin flows into odd, wrinkly shapes. It all came adrift with this last weight loss. Just one more way of becoming what I am, I guess. Thanks for the comments on the post.
Carol - You are stronger than the wine, my dear. Perhaps Heather's technique of drinking alcohol-free wine on occasion, but not all occasions, might be helpful. Maybe substitute an alcohol-free wine some nights? Or even blend them together to drop the alcohol content? There's always a way, if you want to try to make a change.
Lanette - One of the things that I found in my early research was that the majority of morbidly obese women who sought bariatric surgery were abused as children. Our weight is inextricably bound into every single aspect of our lives, and how we use food goes right along with it as well. In all honesty, I didn't really get much from the therapist that I had to see as a bariatric candidate. It was a box to tick. I was just interested in changing the outside, which it did. I did the headwork after the surgery. I do wish sometimes that we came with a user's manual.
Ah... time to stop on this one, I've had it open most of the day while I distract myself. And now, it's time for Jell-O. I am a fortunate woman, to be able to have this kind of modern medicine at my fingertips, and I need to keep reminding myself of that.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

The picture of the cat with Miles makes me think the cat is thinking that is it's new litter box.
Or, maybe just a new box to sleep in-hopefully that. (I just know our cats )3 -
Our improvements: got a new umbrella, a new chair for him to help shade him (skin cancer issues) found a padded patio chair cover on our walk, I just washed and pressure washed it so the kids can lay on and got an extra extension of gate for the kids, and a king size comforter so we will always be covered when yogi sleeps on the bed. The paws I paid to have put on do I can know where the middle was.
Left fresno at 9:30 it was 94, at pismo beach at around 12:30 it was 70.

For many of us we have known each other for years. Some of these ladies were in my mental back pocket, as I dealt with a sick husband in 2014, 2015, & 2018. Those times I had a husband that had finally gotten his complete liver transplant, then the ascities (fluid buildup), then bile duct issues. But we have come thru it, and lived to tell the tale. Truth be told, he will outlive us all with his sheer tenacity for life.🤗😂💖
Welcome!
I'm 61, married 38 yrs, 3 sons, 1 granddaughter exp another.💖

Oh that's scary about your fasting side effect!. Glad you have it noted in your file.👍🏼💖.
Yes for those that have heard about it, the main thing is to educate yourself. Do your homework. Check with your doctor. Join a support group (mine was a Facebook group). I do the best I can, am not 100% faster. And for me that's ok. You are in the drivers seat, because its not some diet plan you follow. Just like most true lifestyle and eating plans, its got to be something you can sustain for life, until you die. Not until that vacation, or that specific dress.💖

Did I tell you that Fri. the guy with the corn said it came in so I went to the farmer’s market to buy it. With the party and then the baseball game today, I shucked and cooked up the first bag. Tomorrow I’ll do the second bag. I’m thinking that maybe next year I should only get one bag.
The cramps in my stomach seem to have subsided. But I still don’t feel totally up to par. I’ll probably take a shower and then go to bed early tonight
Kim – how great that you are swimming. Vince said “wouldn’t it be neat if somehow you could put a motion activated speaker and as someone walked by the gecko it said “I can save you 15% off your insurance”. But that won’t happen.
Barb NC – how far from TN are you? Yes, we’re in the foothills of the mountains, near Hickory.
Pip – what a setup!
We have 4 camping cots, so I’m going to offer one of them to Jerry in exchange for him to stop giving me the rolling eyes every time I ask him to get me something because I can’t lift something that heavy (like a full case of lettuce). Honestly, I think he’ll take it rather than sleeping on this hard thing that he made. It’s not that it’s REAL comfortable, but something is better than nothing. Wanted to wait and offer them to Jess first.

I have never been comfortable with the term "cheat day" since the only person I'm cheating is myself. Then someone said "planned exception" and I liked that. On Friday when we were so tired after the endless drive home from Seattle, we stopped at Taco Time and got tostada salads to take home, even though we had planned much lower calorie and lower sodium meal for that evening. The same thing could happen for a special event or a holiday. I want to avoid doing anything that makes me feel guilty instead of powerful.
We went for a ride in the country this afternoon in beautiful weather. Jake drove and I used the time to ask all my questions about the differences about driving an electric vehicle. It had been my plan to drive around our neighbourhood when we got back but since I fell asleep in the car on the way home, it seemed like a better idea to postpone driving until tomorrow.

Heather - sounds like a very busy, but mostly enjoyable day. Hope you have a nice relaxing day today.
Barbara - that is a huge chunk! I hope you can get your watch soon.
Terri - you and Heather make me look forward to retirement. I want to be involved in activities.
I would do more now, but DH makes me feel bad when I’m away from home a lot. It’s a discussion I’ve need to had for a while and have been putting off.
Lanette - I think I might enjoy not having to be on someone else’s schedule, but I do get pretty lonely easily. It will be interesting to see how I feel in another 20 years or so.
Rebecca - Your pen pals are fortunate you are in their lives.
I don’t know if I could cut sugar out completely. I don’t eat sweets like, cookies, cakes and chocolate often, but I sure do enjoy a coffee with sugar as a treat, also ice cream and a nice cold can of Coke.
Machka - glad you will be getting your knee looked at. We do that same type of bowel screening test here too. Colonoscopies are not routinely done.
I mostly use portion control when actively losing weight. I am a very fussy eater so I don’t try to put anything off the table completely. I do try to cut back the carbs though. It’s a hard one for me.
I seemed to have missed some posts based on comments on the days I’m reading.
Allie - your brother is a nice looking man.
Pip - what a comfortable peaceful home you make. At the house and the camper.
Michelle - I think you can buy a voice activated thing quite cheap. That would be hilarious. I’m with Vince on this one.
My Grands would love it, I may have to make one.
We had a camp out at Kaitlyn’s last night. We had a group photo with our shirts I made. My daughters are the two on the right. I am second from left. I am so blessed these young women allow me to be such a part of their lives.
