Allie - Dang it, Allie, I'm sorry about your brother. Some people never outgrow that sense of being bullet proof that we all had at some point when were young. And yep, was in bed at 8:30, slept a couple hours, but woke up at 11... but no more excuses for insomnia starting Wednesday night; steroids are done. Figured since I was up, I'd read this thread, then start combining two scribbled notebooks into one house book. If that goes well and I'm still awake, I'll start in on the BBOD (Big Book of Death) book and get everything up to date again.
Tracey - How's your daughter holding up? Woke up thinking about her.
Just kind of wobbled around yesterday, nothing too strenuous. Got laundry done and towels on the line. Put dinner in the oven (Amish Breakfast Casserole). Talked to my best friend for nearly an hour, she's pretty sure she and her husband have covid again. This will be like the third time for both of them. I continue to be glad that my one and only time I showed positive for covid, I had zero symptoms. Corey had it, and was absolutely miserable for a week or so.
Time to get some few things straightened out and then fall back in bed once more.
Hope it's a wonderful week for all of you, and Happy Birthday, Carol!
Love,
Lisa in AR

Oh yes, Lisa, got to update our savings info, and perhaps a couple of other details on the pages we have with our wills. Must do it, but DH is always reluctant.
We had a good start to our date day. Could hear the seagulls, and sense the sunshine, and our friend, the palm tree. In the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing, with the right person. Blessed.
We had been talking about our young selves, and how we had no idea what was good for us. I said I thought it was because we had no perspective, no birds eye view. The trees were all we could see, not the wood and the bigger landscape. We both felt life was so much better now.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Machka-been several years since I have actually been fitted for a bra-think Victoria's Secret was last. No shops in my town that do that any more and haven't cared enough to go to in search of service. I'm not overly tough to fit.
Terri-I admire your dedication to your poetry.
Kylia-quite the reaction to the sting. Hope meds have helped. I will be out watching my grandsons in soccer and football over the next couple of weeks and need to watch out for the critters.
Vicki-sorry work is so stressful. Hope time with friends helped you relax a bit.
Allie-it sounds like they are narrowing things down for you. Hope they have some effective treatment. Too bad your brother is in legal trouble but not your fault and not much you can do.
Lisa-your Big Book of Death sounds very sensible. I haven't updated a will since the boys were young (thought about it more when you wanted to identify someone to take care of them if something happened). I need to get a simple will. Things will get split 50/50 to boys and will leave a bit to step grandsons. My goal is there is not much left! I prefer to get them things now so I can see them enjoy them.
Start day at dentist for cracked tooth. Video meeting this afternoon on a group put together to review one of our programs and submit changes to feds. Hope it is worthwhile but at least I get to participate. Community event tonight-handing out backpacks to kids and games, etc. It is smaller than event a couple of weeks ago but in the neighborhood where our offices are so available to a smaller group that is often overlooked. Will make a longer day but a good one. Shouldn't be overly hot today thankfully.
Take care all,

My beautiful granddaughter is turning 12 and getting high lights for the first time!

Carol - Gorgeous granddaughter. Love the highlights.
Bea has natural blonde highlights that everyone is so jealous of. She looks as if she has been to a very expensive salon!
Did an editing session. I'm very inclined to mix my metaphors!

Happy birthday, Carol! Enjoy your day! Your granddaughter is a beauty, highlights or no highlights!
Terri- Wonderful poems!
Rita- Wow! What a day! Makes me want to call you Tex! (All though maybe it should be Mex?)
Rori- Enjoy your time with your friend!
Allie- Just have to say, in no imaginings in my mind has Tom ever deserved you. I hope he realizes how unbelievably kind and forgiving you are and that he doesn't deserve it. ALSO...Miles is too cute! I am so glad he seems to have found a great fit with his childcare provider!
Machka- I like the look from the 40s, 50s, and 90s. I really like the looks of the early 1900s; but those fashions are not friendly to the bigger busted ladies. lol Travel: I need time. I am okay if I have a straight flight from here to there (wherever "there" might be), but I like to have the time alone either on a train to the airport (3 hours away) or in the airport (a couple of hours) so I have time to have a drink, people watch, get to my gate without running... Also, because all of my vacations of late have been to see my grandchildren (really not a relaxing vacation), I need that time to not have anyone need anything from me OR be talking to me. If I am traveling with my DH, I need him to be medicated and/or asleep. He is NOT a good traveler.
Halfway through the week! I now have (counting today) six more days with 12 kids in care (ages: 6,5,5,5,4,4,3,2,1,1,4 months,4 months). This week we are just straight out playing and getting in as much outside and water time as possible. Next week will be a "party" each day. Luau, Superhero, Christmas, Camp out, Beach Day. Then, it will slow down to just me and the under 3 group, as the older ones head off to school.
I better scoot. Pancakes on the griddle for the kids. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -

Take care all,

There are 3 in my city who do, I discovered. I chose the highest rated one, and had success, but I may try one of the other ones for a sports bra. The one I went to had sports bras, but I didn't fit any of them ... I am not easy to fit!
Under the category "blast from the past", the bra that fit me finally is a Playtex! I haven't heard that name in ages!
Wore it today and forgot I had it on ... perfect! I've been so uncomfortable for so long. Plus I wanted to look a little more professional.

Good morning ladies! Playing catch up here, putting chatty stuff in spoilers.
Ginny - good luck with that tooth, glad you are able to get in to see the dentist relatively quickly.
Annie - glad to hear your mom hasn't worsened. I admire you keeping up with your exercise, as I've mentioned before. You have settled into some good habits.
Debbie - good job finding those keys and turning them in to the PD. That birria taco meat sounds yummy. When I was working, there was a "taco bus" set in a neighboring parking lot, the owners spoke little if any English and man was their food good. I wonder what became of that bus, I need to find it again. I remember the portions were huge, enough for me and DH to split with some left over.
Rebecca - you and your sisters are just beautiful, you all have such lovely smiles. How long has your sis been in that wheelchair?
Kylia - wow, what a reaction. Sounds like the steroids and meds are working. Glad you took the day off.
Barbie - good job on getting your early morning walks in before the blast furnace starts up. Looks like your area's weather is cooling off a bit.
Tracey - Sorry to hear about the vehicle fix-it problems. Wonder what is on HR's mind?
Heather - hope your son and family are able to make the move-in work. What a blessing you and your DH were close by and able to give them a place to park for a few days. I agree, you and your DH are making wonderful memories with them. Gosh those kids are smart as whips.
Carol - your granddaughter looks so grown up! She's a charmer. Hope you had a nice birthday!
Kelly - I want to be in your daycare! All those activities sound like fun. Can I bring the chickies?
Allie - good luck at the Rheumatologist. Before my DH was diagnosed with RA, I didn't realize there were so many types of autoimmune disease. Love the 70's photo of the kids.
Blood tests:Got the results of my blood tests back, all good per Dr. Lisa. Vit D at 67 and I'm very happy with that. My B12 is above high normal, and has been for years. Fasting glucose was 110 - that's always over the limit too, but A1C is normal and everyone once in a while I test myself after 2 hours of having some sugary/carby food and it's well under the diabetes threshold so I'm not worried.
Bra fitting:I got a bra fitting years ago and it was worth the effort. Tried getting one up at Macy's in Oly when I was still working a few years ago, and the gal who did those wasn't in. It's quite a drive for me so haven't been back. Some year when I'm up there again, I should try. I'm having some little luck with one brand & style I found at Walmart. Sometimes going up a cup size makes a lot of difference.
I'm sitting here at the dining room table with my laptop, and the warm kitchen is starting to smell like a brewery, lol. Not really. But close. I have 4 quarts of chopped up apples fermenting themselves into vinegar plus found some Kefir starter in the fridge, a bit past expired, but hoping that the little beasties do the trick and turn it into something akin to buttermilk, a flavor from my childhood that I love.
It got up to 105 yesterday. Supposed to cool off maybe 5 degrees today and on Friday - down to 75. No rain in sight, but the cooler weather and nights will be great.
Chicken story -The girls are hot, even though they have shade. Yesterday they got their pea/sweet corn popsicles every few hours; they did fine. At around 5, I went out to give them fresh water and do some chickie chores so let them out of their run for recess. They ran around and found some green grass to peck at, but all eventually congregated in the shade next to the shop where I keep small buckets and gallon jugs of water, some on the picnic table. Easier for me to carry water to various plants than drag a hose.
I went to get water to carry back to the squash in a bed behind the shop, and they were looking in a bucket, panting. Fairy, the black gal who normally isn't friendly, squatted down (didn't run!) when I pressed on her back, and let me pick her up. I stuck her feet first into the water bucket for a minute and made sure to splash water around her belly. Then let her loose. She shook her feathers and walked off.
Well, Gladys, who'd been standing by the water pail watching, was interested in all that so I asked her if she wanted her turn. Yep. She let me pick her up and she got her little bath. Thelma didn't want to be left out so after I released Gladys, she took her turn.
I couldn't believe it. Just call me Elly Mae Clampett, lol. By the way, I've been getting 2 eggs a day. Roger came over last night to see if I was alive and I gave him half a dozen. I told him I was thinking of making them some kind of chicken tractor - a way to let them out of their little run and move around the yard to eat grass without me having to babysit them. There's portable fencing for that, but they'd need some shelter like a doghouse. Let's see if his wheels get turning, it doesn't take much, lol.
Just got my 2000 step sunrise walk in, and picked ripe Aronia (chokeberry) berries. The bush is loaded with huge berries this year, and ripening a month early. Aronias never get real sweet and aren't juicy, but have made the list as a superfood. I'll add a few to oatmeal or grind them up in smoothies. Some bird planted a seed among the shrubs out front years ago and it has now grown into quite a bush.
Ok ladies, make it a fabulous day! Stay cool!

So glad I found this thread! Been going since January but so many events in our small community that alcohol on the weekends always messes me up. I am planning on a breast reduction next year so I’m determined to be the healthiest and as fit as I can be when it’s time. 55 and going through menopause and this is the hardest time to lose so having this support is awesome! Thank you all

Going to set out for our walk to the fish restaurant in 45 mins. Still a beautiful day. I've spruced myself up a bit for the occasion.
Watched 'Earth', about the origins of the planet. This one was about how it got its atmosphere.
Came down for a cup of tea and found DH drawing. He'd done four!
G has had enough of trying to reason with and help P. She says she's bowing out of the dialogue. Some people won't be helped. I agreed. After shouting at her yesterday, I'm taking a break. Not getting involved with that toxic co-dependent stew.
I really don't want to go to the next meet-up, which is at P's house, sometime in the autumn. Wouldn't stay with her, but don't want to go at all, because it's my old stamping ground. Boring for me, as well as vexing.
So, marshalling my inner resolve to say no.
Otherwise, we've had a request to have the children for lunch tomorrow, because DDIL has a radio broadcast, and my son is in London. I don't know if she wants to broadcast from here, as DH answered the phone, or just drop the kids off. It's fine for us. I have food etc left over from last time.
DH'S daughter might pop down at the weekend. I'd like to see her, but her eating times and habits are so different from mine, that it rarely works out. I usually avoid Brighton on a summer weekend! DH accommodates whatever she wants to do, but I'm a bit set in my ways. Or, a lot.

I have been working with a number of different companies for years. I get emails showing what shops are available.
I am not sure if the same companies are up there.
A few I work for are Marketforce, Ipsos,CustomerImpact.
There used to be a great site that listed all the companies on one site, by location-type in your town and all the different ones in the area would show up. I stopped doing shops during covid and that site was gone when I tried to do shops again.
I can get her more information if you want. I love doing them but am a bit more picky.
I know, after all these years, which companies will give little bonuses near the end of the month or if the shop isn't getting picked up by anyone. Like the ones I am doing today. The very first one paid $9-it was at dh's store so I just did it when we went to get his check. The three yesterday and two today are paying $15(I applied for them a week later) and this morning, I see the remaining ones are now at $17. The more remote the area is, the higher it goes with some companies.
I will be looking for more shops so will start checking out more companies along with the ones I am already signed up with.
Some the shop fee isn't great but when they do a nice reimbursement for food plus pay a small shop fee, it is worth it, if you want the food.
There is one that popped up for Red Lobster. Shop fee is just $5 BUT reimbursement is up to $703 -
Debbie, just heard about the Holiday and Diamond fires in the timber north of Calistoga. Hope that’s not affecting your mom’s place.
I haven't heard anything- I will check on it- thanks for letting me know.
Just checked- the map shows it is WAY north, up just above Crescent City but East of there.

Sunk cost fallacy can be tricky to wrap your head around, and it’s not without nuance. For more clarity in these complex decision-making moments, completely disregard how much you’ve already invested so that it doesn’t hold influence. Then, look at the facts.
Are you satisfied? Have you repeatedly been met with dead ends? Is there still potential for a positive outcome if you continue investing your resources and energy? What are the benefits of walking away and opening a new door? These are the factors that should influence your decision rather than any previously sunk costs.3 -

Last day of steroids for me. Can’t wait to finish. Feeling really awful with the prednisone, but my breathing is still sometimes labored so would be worse without it. Routine bloodwork tomorrow (I’ll need to remember to mention the prednisone) then a week later review and I can go over this asthma issue and what we do next. Time runs slowly when you are waiting for something, but flies when you wish something would last!
Weather is finally cooling off a bit- 95-low 100’s this week. Better than 100-115! 10 degrees lower, I’ll take it!
People are really upset with the park superintendent. He was notified by dispatch about the gun fire, couldn’t get contact with the working ranger, but NEVER showed up because ‘he was on his day off’. He is responsible for this park and does not take the job seriously. I swear he is in it only for the paycheck and not because of caring for the park. I hope he gets in trouble for this one.
My son is much like Allie’s brother only never been to Mexico. He is in a bad situation of his own making and have turned away all his relatives and best friends to be with this “girl” he met who brought him into the situation. He is staying there b/c they are paying his way. SMH. 🤦♀️. He has to deal with it himself. He is 39 years old and never grew up.

Many of you who have been posting on this thread know that I love being a part of this community. I love hearing about your lives. I often use the topics from the thread as a conversation starter with my friend who comes to walk with me every morning. Today we talked about packing essentials and adventures in travel.
For decades I worked full time in a challenging job that expected me to work far more hours than I was every paid for and expected a high level of patience and tolerance. I loved the job until the moment I decided that I'd had enough and decided to retire even though I could have had a much higher income in retirement if I'd worked a few more years. Someone used the phrase "quality of life" and it resonated with me. A higher retirement income could never have taken the place of the peace I feel in my life today.
I have two important signs on my refrigerator. One says, "Here is my secret. I don't mind what happens." The other says, "We already have everything we need." Together, they make for a very peaceful and satisfying life.
My alarm is set for 4:20 AM so I can get up and walk Bessie, my sweet mixed breed black dog. We walk for about 15 minutes then come into the house for breakfast. She eats the same breakfast every day and loves it. I eat the same thing every morning which saves me from decision fatigue to start the day. I do the same things while I eat my breakfast. Read e mail, read from a spiritual book, log my steps onto two virtual walking sites, and read this thread. You all remind me that health and fitness are at the top of my list of goals for the day. Sometimes my husband gets up early and sometimes he doesn't. At 5:45 my walking friend comes to the house so we can walk Bessie together. Bessie walks for 15-30 minutes then is ready to come home. My friend and I walk for another 30-45 minutes, then she goes home and I walk until somewhere between 7:30 and 8:00. Hubby and I have a talking time while I drink water before showering and dressing for the day.
At 9:00 we attend a meeting on Zoom that is connected with a spiritual program that we follow. We have friends from many places on the meeting and always feel energized by being there. Sometimes I host or co host the meeting so I can share responsibility for the meeting continuing. We eat lunch before 11:00. This is our big meal and the meal we plan and eat together at the table. Our other meals are "find it and fix it" and may or may not be eaten together.
The afternoon is for chores and yard work and watching TV together. Jake and I take turns riding the exercise bike. We take turns deciding what to watch. We don't have network or cable tv so it is YouTube, Netflix, or Amazon. Right now we're considering adding BritBox to the mix.
I head for bed between 6 and 7 and Jake stays up a little later. I don't sleep through the night so my night is a mixture of potty stops, sleep, and reading I take Bessie out for a walk about midnight.
With a life this simple and repetitive, I often have little to share. I appreciate all of you who have stories to tell.

Barbie: Created the life you have is quite an achievement. When you do post, it’s always inspirational. You are a breath of fresh air.
Out early this morning for weekly grocery shopping. Pockled about the garden, mooched around the house, generally doing just as I pleased.
We had duck breast, stir fry veg and oven chips for dinner. Had a minor accident while cooking the duck, and splashed hot oil on my face and foot. It was quite a shock, but only painful briefly. Must be more careful when cooking in future.
Planning an early night. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday. 🥰

The phrase "you do you" or "I am in the drivers seat of my own life" always resets me. Sometimes I think I should do more (my brain saying do more= be more). Staying with my eldest sister for a couple weeks during the Summer is so chaotic. Simple things like putting the trash and recycling out involves getting the tractor, loading up the bins in the bucket and driving it down to the end of her long road. While as we just roll the bins to the front of our driveway. But then I think, "she chooses this as if she saved the paper recycling for a once a month trip to the recycling center, her garbage would be much less volume. With it just her, she really shouldn't have as much as she does. She lives out in the country, a compost bin for organic waste, that she can turn every so often. But she chooses to drive the tractor down the road. I do not tell her how to live her life. We all have choices, things that are important to us, and things we should let go. I have let go of expected responsibilities, our life is so simple its a wee bit on the boring side. Which to both husband and I, we thoroughly enjoy it. We have lived chaotic. Blessings abound.💖🤗

Good evening ladies.
My aunt died today, and we are reaching to feel the appropriate feelings, but I think the truth is that we didn't know her that well. So it's awkward. My dad was number five of eight, and there are only two left. I was giving him grief again today about trying to use a pole saw on a ladder to do tree work. He is very healthy but he does risky things.
Dad wants to know where the service will be, and how to get a copy of the obituary, and where to send flowers. All in due time, but ten minutes later he asks again.
I'm annoyed with him because he asked me to order string for his string trimmer, then went out and bought it himself. He forgets things, and then takes action as though he is fully cognizant. Much trickier than my mom.

No work so I got to go to the gym to do a Body Pump DVD. Then took a walk around the neighborhood then counted the donation money at the church. Came home and in the pool then to Aldi. I’m looking for a headband that’s absorbent. Stopped at Burlington thinking they might have one (tried Target, none, then Kohl’s, none). Didn’t find the headband but I did find 10 pars of socks for $6. I needed socks and that’s a price I could live with.
Annie DE – yea for your mom. I’m so sorry to hear about your aunt.. You are an angel.
Allie – that pic sure looks like it’s out of the 70’s. They look so good together
Carol – you DO have a beautiful granddaughter. You should be very proud
Michele FL – welcome
Barbara – Vince hasn’t been doing his PT. Not that I thought he would. As soon as it gets nicer out (maybe in the 70’s) I’m going to be after him again to go walking, even just a little bit.
The last time I was at the MD and had my routine blood work, he said that my sugar was on the high side. Not prediabetes, but close. I’m not a big candy/cookie/dessert person but I was listening to a podcast and they mentioned about fruit. Now I’m a big fruit eater. Vince can’t understand how to me a big juicy peach is a true dessert, not pie or cake or anything like that. It makes sense – sugar is sugar. I fell into the “sugar from fruit is OK” trap. So I think I’ll have MFP start to track my sugar so I can see what foods are low in sugar.
Maybe I’ll go back in the pool to do a little exercising. I’m thinking that right now I’ll get out a jigsaw puzzle to work on before the holidays.
Just changed to have MFP log my sugar.
Oh, yuk, everything high in sugar is my beloved fruit. Guess I need to find which fruits are the lowest. Unfortunately, I just bought a lot of peaches and it looks like they're pretty high. Oh well.....
