The last 3 months have seen me have a terrible bought of arthritis where everything hurt like the dickens, a colitis D attack, a UTI, and then the Asthma attack. My NP believes something is going on and so do I so, I am doing another blood test for food sensitivities to address my gut, and awaiting for the other doctor appointments to resolve what I can’t on my on. I am so glad I go to a functional doctor for my PC! They begin with the better diet and look for the root cause of the issues, not just treat the symptoms.

A lot of that could be stress.
I believe that chronic stress from my husband's situation and a few things going on in my life too over the past 5+ years has been the root cause of my Chronic Kidney Disease. I think it raised my BP and a high or highish BP is one of the things that can cause CKD (plus I've had minor kidney issues for quite a while).
I do box breathing before I embark on a really stressful situation or before I have my BP tested.
I hope you can make some changes that ease your stress level.

Saturday: End of a long week - one of my 5-day weeks. Next week will be a shorter one - a 4 day week.
It's been another busy week with work and our anniversary on Thurday.
Work was supposed to be nice and calm - I planned to put together an instruction manual. Writing instruction manuals is something I've done a lot of over the years and I find it relaxing. This one is mostly written but in a bit of disarray because I've been adding points here and there over the past several months.
But then I was asked to submit comments on a document from the federal government which had to be in by Wednesday. And I had a number of fires to put out. And numerous meetings. So it wasn't till Friday afternoon that I was able to make progress on the instruction manual!
I was busy as usual each evening.
But I did manage to read a little bit and do some colouring.
Stepped on the scale this morning and I'm down 5.4 kg from end-April/beginning-May!! That's 12 lbs.

Allie: Looks like you are enjoying your time with family.
Machka: 🥰 the graphic. It’s good to be reminded that we need balance in all areas of our lives. You are such a dynamo. And well done on the steady weight loss.
Nothing pressing today apart from my usual trip to our local shops for fresh produce. Beef for tomorrow, and some fresh bread for lunches.
It’s a bank holiday weekend, then next Friday I have my first group meeting, Parchment Craft. The following week will be busy as I get back into the swing of things. I have some prep work to do as I get ready for the new semester.

Good morning all. Our weather is awful we had thunder and lightning last night and torrential rain. Was naughty last night had some chocolate and my favourite drink splash of Frangelico with Baileys, delish. Watching TV series Dr Death about Christopher Duntsch infamous neurosurgeon in USA.
Have my Wordplay Zoom group this morning, we usually play online boggle, love word games.

We had rain last night too. The geraniums are not happy bunnies.
This morning, as the sky was blue, and there was no wind, I decided to try my thigh out with a 'run'. I was just getting back into 5k, after my broken wrist, when the aductor muscle in my thigh decided to play up. I obviously have a weakness there, as I have had it before, years ago. I've been doing the PT on it for about a week.
So, I rubbed on some ibuprofen gel, and off I went. I completed 2 miles, instead of my normal 3, but I consider that a win, and the thigh held out. I did sit down from time to time, but I am happy. Mustn't push recovery too fast.
On the way back I bought escalopes from the butcher for tomorrow, and pine nuts for pesto from the deli, among other things. My basil plant on my kitchen windowsill has grown so tall! I'm going to hack it down. Dinner tonight is pesto with broccoli, peas and ham. DH has pasta, me shiritaki, as I've run out of cauliflower rice. Still on my low carb kick!
I had a lovely long chat with L last evening, who had just got back from a 9 day tour of various friends. From Wales to Derbyshire, Birmingham, and Hay. She drove herself. She said she felt more like herself than she had done in years. Very freeing. (She was widowed 20 months ago in a sudden cardiac arrest) She did subsume a lot of herself in her husband, who had a lot of problems. Now she is rediscovering the L she used to be. She is the same age as me - nearly 74. Widowhood has been a very difficult time for her, including a hip replacement.
Now to have a bath and wash my hair.

My walking total hasn't been great this month ...
Today was another day of hauling rocks!!
I've wanted to edge the plant portion of my dry stream with rock ... so I've started on that now.
We went up and got more rock. Then I pulled up some of the rocks that are already there (there aren't many) and began pulling up the weeds around them. Then pulling up grass and weeds where the new rocks will go.

Barbara AHMOD-missed your question regarding retirement.Right now, with medication change, I feel better than I have in a few years. In talking with doctor (primarily pa) they emphasized not basing decision on physical age (I felt like I should retire because of age). I still have a desire to see a large issue resolved that is important to community. I was also appointed to a task force that has to have recommendations to General Assembly to revised something that we have been asking to change for years (that appointment came the day after I talked to doctor-strange timing!). Short form is, I told my boss I would give medication 6 months to see what it does (the takes me to December) and I will do my best to give a 6 month transition period. Am working on cleaning up internal bits that got delayed. I am out of there next year-not sure of timing.
Rita-I find meditation very helpful. It clears my mind and helps me focus. It doesn't have to take a huge amount of time. As Machka and other point out-we need all facets of us balanced to be healthy. At different times and different facet needs focus.
Terri- I envy you and Heather's opportunities to go to fresh markets. While we have "fresh" vegetables at grocery stores it is not quite the same as I experienced when in England. We do have a farmer's market during the summer which can be nice but the rest of the year not much. Always guessing when you buy the exactly how fresh they are and how long they will last.
Kate UK- the rain you experienced sounds much like what we had Thursday morning-very intense storms-then extreme humidity. Friday was brutal. Temperatures moderating nicely for the next week. We are moving into our fall cycle.
Heather- glad the leg seems to be rehabbing. It can take so long. I am asking podiatrist about a new x ray for my left foot. The neuropathy is better since my thyroid medication change but now I can really feel the bone pain in the top of foot. Want to make sure nothing else is going on other than arthritis and if that is it going to ask for cortisone shot to tame it-over the counter and creams not helping.
Today's big adventure is eye exam and selection of new frames. I did on-line try on of several types a week or so ago so I have a list of what I want to try. Want to get frames with a bit of color this time-possibly purple or blue. May reuse old frames for new sun glasses and computer glasses if prescription changed enough for new lenses. Watching GS play soccer tomorrow. Should be relaxing weekend.

Lanette thanks for info on the gut. I have been a strong believer for years in the importance of gut health.
Yellow jackets are out in force here. Yesterday DH got stung on hand and a neighbor two on the back. Neighbors sound like they have set up behind a wall. That is when you need the exterminators.
DH was glad I knew about the bentonite clay and vinegar poultice. It gave him the most relief. Reminded him I had twelve of these two years ago where the wasps continued to sting. He might now realize how dangerous that was for me and how much it hurt.
As much as I enjoyed my friends pool I don't think it is wise for me to go back this time of year with all the wasps she was filtering out of her pool.
I did get two big piles out of the house yesterday to Goodwill. That is the step where I usually bog down.
I find when I am relaxed breathing from the diaphragm comes naturally. When I am tense or worried my breathing is shallow. The shallow breathing unfortunately only adds to the problem.1 -

But woke up to very sore hips so tylenol it is.
They have free breakfast here so will go down a bit later..today is going to be another long day and I want to be able to rest as much as I can.

Hello, everyone...
Reading along, but not quite awake yet. John and Soraya got here safe and sound last night within just a few minutes of when they thought they would. I approve of people who do what they say they're going to do... Was up until ten talking to them.
I think I'm going to love Soraya. She is an earnest person, and the sincerity in her exudes from every pore. He seems to have found a relationship very much like mine and his father's. She's eight years older, ex-military, wide-open emotionally, and in a place where she's willing to express what she needs and wants. She and I have a tremendous number of things in common, and loving John is just one of them. I'll be interested to see how all this plays out.
That worry, "But what if I can't handle being around her?" has also subsided. Living for four days with a stranger in your house is kinda weird, when you get down to it. Our house is quiet, peaceful, never noisy... a genuinely restful haven for us, and she just fit right in last night. John's first wife, by comparison, was always so nervous around us that she was like watching popcorn cooking in an open skillet. Exhausting.
And of course, seeing and hugging Johnny for the first time in two and a half years was just awesome. We've missed that boy, and texts and calls just aren't enough. I say "boy," but he will be 30 in October. He's changed very little, just a little more solid, a little quieter in his soul--most likely that last is Soraya's doing.
I think she's brought light to a lot of his dark places--some of you may remember years ago when his depression was overwhelming him and I was talking to him nearly daily in Denver, trying to inch him away from suicide. He's so much better now. The awareness of how much another person loves you and needs you can steady your life down in ways you didn't know existed, in the end.
OK, now I'm getting philosophical, it's time to go... they brought me a stained glass and copper hummingbird suncatcher that I want to get put up in my kitchen window before the sun comes up, and a lovely pair of turquoise earrings. They brought Corey beer. Does that boy know us, or what?

Ginny ~ I don't know your age, but, I do know that when I had to retire after 30 yrs of teaching I wasn't happy. Keep working as long as your health allows and you enjoy what your do.

Good morning, ladies.
Heather your basil plant looks awesome. I have a large planter outside that I put fresh herb plants in this spring and everything grew very well. I'm going to go through it today and snip off what I want to freeze. Nice to have in the winter to add to soups/stews or other dishes. I have basil, rosemary, thyme and sage so a nice variety.
Sunny today with clear skies so will be pulling up my garden onions and just leave them out in the garden area to dry down for a couple of days before moving them to the barn. I'm not sure they will store for very long this year as we have had so much moisture but will give it a try. Will probably end up using quite a few once the tomatoes are ready as I will be making sauce.

Cindy and Allie I am doing a LOT of research and adjusting foods, nutrient levels, etc as I find what is best for everything. I’m hoping that since I am in the early stages of kidney illness that I can stop it or (crossing my fingers here) fix it. I too find my back, knee and hip arthritis is better with movement, but with the weather in triple digits all summer I have slacked off on that. I can’t take the heat like I used to. Get light headed. The gut, well, it is something that can not be cured and I need to expect flairs every so often. What foods I’m sensitive too make a big different to keeping the flares small and few. I just have to push through this mess and I’ll be up and around once again when it cools down to below 95 degrees.

Stress was the first thing my NP said. I’m not sure what else I can do? I walk, meditate, do box breathing, 4-7-8 breathing, breathing out longer than in, all work temporarily. I am also going to a therapist who has me on 3 different meds! I read, color, and crochet to help as well. Not sure what else I can do. More research I suppose!
