We finally got some cooler weather. Our high yesterday was only 96°F , which is hot, but it was a good 10° cooler than it has been lately and it really felt nice. This morning when I ran it was 68°F at the start and 67°F at the end. It was so pleasant and the stars were so bright. It was a beautiful morning, and I wanted to just keep running, but I had to work, so I stopped at 6.5 miles. It is only supposed to get to 98° today and then we will be returning to triple digit heat for a while, but it should be in the low 70's the next few mornings so I am going to try to enjoy it while I can.

Love your wall art @polskagirl01!3

My muscles were a bit sore from the triathlon yesterday (probably from the biking), so I took a rest day yesterday and went to bed early hoping that I would feel rested and rejuvenated enough to attempt my 20 mile run this morning.
I felt really good when I woke up, so I went for it! The first 10k went by really fast and I felt like I could run at that pace forever. It wasn’t till after my turn around point at 16k that I started to feel fatigued. I made it back to the car after 32.3km- so a little over 20 miles still keeping the same pace but definitely no longer feeling like I could keep running forever !
I actually feel quite good now but I’ve decided to wait and see how my body recovers from this run and my race on Saturday until I decide about the marathon.
@Teresa502 I love hearing about your active weekend! That sounds like a wonderful adventure trip.
@eleanorhawkins I’m not trying to hurt myself , but I do actually think that @tarun_yadavA idea to run a 20 miler was a good idea. Even if I don’t do the marathon, I’m glad I accomplished that and can more accurately judge my training status and pacing. I didn’t have so much running mileage this month due to my vacation, but we also did over 50k of hiking in the week I didn’t run, which, although not the same, I think didn’t hurt.
For August, I have 136.7/160km.7 -
@polskagirl01 - love the art wall! I haven't made an art wall but have done a lot of 'coloring' too. I use pens on the stained glass type sheets and colored pencils on everything else. I am re-learning to crochet and finishing several cross stitch projects.
@TheMrWobbly - glad the park run went so well!
@Scott6255 - So happy you were finally able to get out an run outside win cooler weather! Fall is just around the corner!
@Laurz9191 - I am amazed that you were able to get out there and run 20+ miles with just a days rest after your triathlon. I hope you continue to feel strong!
Had an awesome fun class with Hobbes last night. Didn't get any video but Hobbes was fast, accurate and I was able to stay up or in front of him. I need to be careful not to overdo though. I had a rough day after my long walk on Sunday and again today after class last night. Hoping to get out for a few more walks this week as the temps cool off a little.7 -
@polskagirl01 Love your art work. That is a very relaxing thing to do.
@kgirlhart Glad you got some cooler weather for a few days and enjoyed your run so much!
@Laurz9191 WOW. It's amazing that you ran 20 miles 2 days after your tri! You're a beast.
So glad you were able to have such a great agility class with Hobbes @shanaber ! Do take it easy and don't overdo. You are doing great. I'm glad you are having some cooler temperatures too.

I haven't posted since Sat.
Sunday, I was scheduled to play a league tennis match at 5:30. They moved it up to 4:00 due to forecast storms. So, I only walked one mile on the treadmill before lunch. The temp was 90F (32.2C), feel like 95F (35C) at the start, but it did cloud up and cooled down some before we finished. My partner and I lost, but it was a really close match. As we were walking off the court it started to rain and was pouring before we got out of the parking lot, so it was good that we started early.
Yesterday, I did a treadmill wun - ran at 4.5 mph during the commercials of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. I had a frustrating day with lawyers and the assisted living where my cousin is and worked 5 hours, so didn't have the energy for a run.
Today, mom and I took my cousin to a doctor's appointment, then ran some errands. It was almost 5:30 when I got home and hadn't eaten anything but a protein bar since breakfast, so again, decided on an easy wog. I did a walk/run of 5 min at 3.8 mph, 5 x (2/3 min at 5.0/3.8 mph), ran 3 min at 5.0/ walked 6:44 min at 3.8 mph. Total was 2.75 miles for an average pace of 14:19 min/mile.8 -

Hi Guys. I'm still way behind on the posts this month. August has been a bit if a running failure for me. After our 10 day trip to France we came home to Storm Betty and I hate running in strong wind. Then on Monday evening I stubbed my little toe on a chair leg. I wasn't wearing an shoes which is unusual for me and sure enough I bashed it. Don't think its broke but is bruised, I've been putting some anti- inflammatory cream in it. The month isn't over yet and might still hit 35 miles at least.

Beautiful moon this morning. It rained overnight but the clouds parted a little bit this morning to give me a view. I’ve been tired all morning so I think I’m taking a rest day tomorrow so this morning’s run finishes me up for the month. Not stellar mileage but I did hike a couple of weekends and had the biking weekend which cuts into my running mileage. I also had 14 days of strength training. Only one yoga for the months – I need a lot more of that activity in my life!
@Laurz9191 – Great job on your 20-miler. No doubt you can handle the marathon especially if you can get a few days rest prior to it.
@Scott6255 – You are on fire! Two runs in one day!
@Mari33a – Ouch – your poor little toe.

@Teresa502 that sounds like an awesome camping trip. I love doing solo trips, be it camping or road trips.

Well this past weekend was a bust for me, as far as running goes. Unfortunately the weather was awesome for running...about 60F when I'd have been running...but I missed my chances.
Friday was a planned rest day. I decided to take Saturday off too because of a lower calf niggle (now seems resolved) but hoped to go on a 12 miler Sunday morning. Unfortunately we had an issue with our sailboat which needed to get fixed before we could sail again and the guy who came over to help me could only do it in the morning. We got the issue fixed but it was a two beer job and then there was a third beer as we sat in the cockpit enjoying our success at a repair and enjoying the day. I was in no mood to run after that. There was no wind for sailing but my wife and I motored out, anchored, had a late lunch and did some cleaning and organizing.
I had to skip my run yesterday. Two weekends ago I tripped over a cleat on the dock and fell. I had my hands full and couldn't brace myself and landed on my chest, which led to a painful sternum on the right side. It had felt better last week but came back Sunday evening into Monday. I was able to get out for 7 miles last night without too much bother but when I ran fartleks, the heavier breathing caused the pain to come back. I don't think it's anything serious so I'll continue to run and just live with the occasional pain until it heals.
60 miles so far for the month. Depending on when I get out this evening I'll get in another 5 to 9 miles.

Texas running? In THIS heat? The Guardian newspaper has an article about you folks:

A quote from the article "Texans are proud of their toughness."
Ha, whatever,6 -
Decided to make some use of my rarely used gym membership today and take an easy recovery run of 6.3km. My legs are feeling ok. I probably will just do recovery runs up to my races on Saturday and hopefully that will be enough to let my body recover so that I can push the pace a little bit- obstacle races do take considerably longer than normal races though.
My first race is a 3km family run with the kids, so I don’t think I will have to run super fast there. More just be a motivational coach and enjoy the time with the two oldest kids. My main event will be a 12km run with quite a lot of random up and downhill running. The race usually involves underwater submersion, mud, sand, climbing lots of random obstacles and carrying heavy things. So, yeah, a lot of different mini challenges and some bruises are usually involved .
Finishing up August I have an even 143/160km of running. Even though I didn’t quite make my goal I am very satisfied of achieving that mileage with taking a week off and getting over jet lag .6 -

Sounds like fun! And good call in recovery runs only. At this point I don't think there's any "training" you can do to improve on your race fitness.3 -

I don't know what happened to my post. I updated my run earlier today, but it is not here now. It was another really nice morning and I ran 7 miles. It wasn't as cool as yesterday, but it was still around 71°F so it was very pleasant. The moon was beautiful. I saw a deer near the park again. I am pretty sure it's the same one. I keep seeing him in the same area. The temperatures are supposed to be back over 100° tomorrow, but hopefully the early morning temperatures won't be too bad.

I finished the month with a 6 mile run. My chest felt a little tight so I kept it slow and steady and skipped any strides.
I finally took the time to figure out how to load up a Spotify playlist on my watch so I could leave my phone at home, which was nice. Last May I found the Garmin Fenix 6x pro for a great price and I love it! It took a while to get used to a heavier watch but the huge battery life is worth it. I finally have a watch I can use for running (and sailing) and wear every day and not have to charge it every other day.
66 miles for August. Pretty low by my standards but so be it.11 -
I am not going to get in two more runs, nor eight more miles, so I am not going to hit my goal this month.
I am still having fun, and not injuring myself, which is the larger goal.
💯 world class moonrise over the bay this evening. Lovely. It is calm, the heat broke, the run was nearly all shade. A nice way to end August.

@chris_in_cal looks beautiful! Imprisoned Shamu still there? lol
See you in September!6 -
I'd been wondering why I feel so tired. Garmin tells me I ran 196km and walked another 88km in August, maybe that's why. Not even going to try and work out the vert as that is going to get even worse before it gets better lol.8

I was gleefully splashed by Shamu as a child. We are savages. The heat got hot so they moved the shamus (they have eight) to exhibits, and no longer have them perform tricks.1 -
