Hi Debi,
I'm also 56.
Machka in Oz0 -
Good Monday and I can't believe it is October!
Barbie Thank you again for our fresh start.
I got my big parts order completed and submitted yesterday. I am as close to goal as I could get comfortably. It isn't due until today, so yeah for me! I get to relax tonight instead of stressing. Not much movement yesterday, but feel relief that the order is done. I also managed to pay a few bills, deposit a couple of checks, and catch up DH's check registers. Now to clean up my paper mess. Then get trainings done.
Lots of weddings this past weekend! Ladies, you all look beautiful! Tracey, love the cake.
Going out or to stores......I try to always look presentable.
But as much as I love makeup, I can't seem to get the hang of this maturing skin. I haven't found a makeup I like. I want something light and natural. Makeup, therefore, has been relegated to weddings and those types of occasions.
Welcome to the new ladies! Each day is a chance to make better choices.
Happy Birthday Heather!
Joy, sorry the bear got your carrots.
I am thankful that even though my eating feels out of control, it has been healthy foods that I am hungry for. In the past it would have been chocolate or cookies. So that is a win. Protein seems to be what I am hungry for.
Family communications....I suck at it. I am just tired at end of day and don't feel like reaching out. Everyone just seems to be in the same boat. May need to work on this....
Three things to look forward to this month....
1. Going to a play with oldest daughter
2. A retirement/birthday party for a friend
3. The leaves changing color
Try to be optimistic about something....work will get smoother with a few changes.
Better get off here.
Hugs!
Encouragement!
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio hoping to enjoy the warmth of the next few days

Heather Happy belated birthday :flowerforyou:
Busy day yesterday. After singing in church. Brother called in the morning and said they were driving through St. Paul. I did not expect them until Tuesday or Wednesday. They didn't realize how crowded the North Shore gets this time of year on a weekend. They got caught in a horrible traffic jam so did not get to our son's house until 5 p.m.(less driving for them to meet there) and they left at 6 p.m. This is the way with this brother I am a stop on the way to somewhere else for him.3 -

Hit Facebook Page in header. I am in the second service down. The first one you see is our later service with a band. I am about eighteen minutes in and at the end of the service.
Thank you for your support. I have not sung a solo in three years so I'm happy just to do one again.
When I bought these seven years ago I laughed when I saw them in the store. I have them out again this year too🦩

Tracey - great cake decorating! Possible income generator?
Kim - Great outfit. You look very celebratory.
As always in weddings, there were long stretches with not much to do and the dinner was late because of a cake disaster. It fell over! In the end we had a disappointingly small helping of poor vegan pizza, and some salad bits. Most people were not happy about it, but in the end you can laugh about it. The bride announced at the end of the quiz that she was expecting a baby in May.
It turned out it wasn't a wedding at all. They had got officially married on Wednesday and this was a cousin officiating for fun only. It certainly seemed like the real thing.
They had an owl flying with the rings
But the pink Cadillac for the groom never turned up, double booked!
Anyway, I'm glad we made the effort, even though it was a very long day. My son stopped on the way home to buy snacks as he was starving!!!
My brother loved the picture I painted of the beach huts!
My son with the owl.
Family photo. The groom has gorgeous hair.
Not 100% sure about my DSIL'S outfit!
I had a long video call with DH'S sister this morning, then a long phone call with L who has just got back from Ireland.
Then delicious blinis, sour cream and faux caviar for lunch. DH has already started cooking the Moussaka.
Cleaner this afternoon and my son is visiting at 5.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Heather I loved her outfit. It coordinates with the flowers of the bride and the groom's mother has a floral dress. DH's sister has her own style and owns it. Love the coordinating sliders (that is what we call those hair pieces here according to the presentation on the history of hats I just went to) that match their outfits. The shawl looks good with the groom's mother outfit. I realize it is not a look everyone will endorse but I see why they wore them for an outdoor wedding.
So caught up in the wedding photos forgot to mention adore the picture of your son with the owl. What a (fun) change that to a memorable wedding!2 -

Margaret - It is my brother's second wife. The mother of the bride. A brave choice, but very much her personality. My brother has four children by his first wife and two by his second. He has ten grandchildren, soon to be another, and there will be four great grandchildren!
It was DH'S sister I had a video call with this morning. She sent me an Amazon etoken.

Happy Monday, my peeps, whether before, during or after...
Welcome @flowerhouse Debi in London! Sorry I missed you on my first run at picking up those who are new. We're glad you're here, please feel free to drop into any conversation that interests you, to ask for advice or give it. It's a fast-moving bunch, very chatty, and always pleased to see new folks who need or want to give or get support in living a healthy lifestyle, physically, mentally and socially.
Heather - Love the wedding pics, all of them. You look particularly happy with your brother.
My usual goals for September were never posted, which is just as well, since I would have bombed two out of three! Time to get back on track for October:- Get back to my preferred maintenance range: I'm at 153, two pounds heavier than the first of September, and I want to get back down into the range of 145-149.
- Continue getting healthier: This is the only thing I did right in September! Started with rowing 10 minutes on September 4, and I'm now up to rowing 25 minutes one or two days a week, 30 minutes on the elliptical one or two days a week, and resistance work two days a week. Also moved to eating only in a restricted window of one hour at noon and two hours for my evening meal. While it's nobody's idea of "real" intermittent fasting, my system seems to be reacting to it quite well. When I'm able to restrict the grazing habit, the days beyond that see fewer all-day-long visits to the bathroom. Want to continue that through October and walk in to see the gastroenterologist in November with good news for a change.
- Stick to the budget: Between new tires for my car, my unexpected sign-up for a pottery class, and replacing the 7-year-old vacuum sealer that I busted yesterday in the middle of getting a bunch of food in the freezer, I basically blew the budget right out of the water in September. Usually, it takes both of us to blow the budget that badly! Time to get on track...
When I sign off here, I'll be running to town to pick up a bit of cash and snag some Powerball lottery tickets. And yes, it does come under the budget for "entertainment!"
For whatever reason, a billion-dollar prize amount seems to be the trigger for both of us. Corey's "good morning" call included the "why don't you pick up some tickets for tonight's drawing" request from him. Always fun to dream of what we'd do with it... Y'all would probably be the first ones I'd tell, as telling family would be a big mistake.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

I have seen so many videos where the owl went haywire and ended up in someone's hair. This one was very well behaved and performed perfectly.
One of the best bits was my brother's last son, around 21, who did a boogy dance as a flower boy. Excellent!

FYI, I just posted on FB that I am taking a month break from both FB and Messenger to contact me by email or phone if you want to talk to me. I have taken advice from all of you and this is a start i need to do. The message will get back to the people who complain to me. We shall see. I’ll keep everyone updated on any developments from that post.
Thank you ALL!
RVRita8 -
Rita - The challenge now is to not look at FB or Messenger until November 1 by then all the complaining will be funny as it will be a month old. And I bet not a one of them will complain via email or phone.
Good Luck!!!

I doubt any of them will contact me either! I bet there will be a lot of ‘speculation’ about why I did that! LOL. I’m going to try to avoid both completely!

Here's to a wonderful October!!
Julie in Nebraska7 -
Kim and Heather ~ You both look beautiful in your evening clothes! So chic! Kim, I love your hair! Heather, the wedding party looked so very festive and what this country girl would call "British". The owl idea was something new to me!
Lisa ~ Is there any chance that your grandson can stay in Hawaii with his mom?
Tracey ~ Your cake shows so much imagination. It is as cute as can be and shows a lot of creativity on your part.
Machka ~ About keeping in touch with family. I have 3 brothers and a sister and most of us keep in touch one way or the other. One brother only contacts if someone in the family had a terrible occurrence. The rest through calls, email, and Facebook. We grew up in so much turmoil between our parents that I guess it is important to keep in touch.
Kylia ~ The older I get, I feel like you do about makeup. I had very bad acne when I was young and too much sun has damaged my skin all over. Now I have broken capillaries, enlarged pores and other things related to skin damage. I feel like I have to wear foundation if I leave the house. Yet, I hate the feeling of makeup on my skin so wash it off as soon as possible.
Margaret ~ Very nicely done on your song.
Welcome to new posters! We all love getting to know each other.

Margaret, I enjoyed your singing. I had never heard the song you sang as a benediction. It was truly beautiful. Thank you for sharing the link with us. I also enjoyed hearing a totally different version of the doxology than we sing at our church. I liked the version y’all sing.

MFP Weekly Check-in for October 2, 2023
Kylia in Ohio: 126.6.....can't complain though since I have been eating like a pregnant woman. So this is up 2 pounds. Looking forward to a new week!
RVRita in NM: I forgot all about this yesterday! So here goes… I am 1/2 pound down from last Sunday. Better than last week. The only issue is that DH bought Halloween candy and made on purpose to buy me Tootsie Rolls. They are my favorite! I told him this morning I appreciated it but never do it again!! LOL
Debbie in Napa Valley CA: 154.2- pretty much the same as last week.
Lanette SW WA State: scale down a teensy bit this week. But the best part is – total 2.5 lbs since starting this check-in/accountability on July 24th. Slow and steady wins the race. Again – cutting out sugar and most processed foods and going 12 to 14 hours between supper and breakfast seem to be the key.

Back from town, picked up my "I could be a billionaire by midnight!" tickets... and a few other bits and bobs.
I've ordered eight different kinds of basil seeds for planting for an indoor herb garden. We want to try the different kinds of basil, and foodie-type items like that are really hard to find near us--it's still a pretty blue-collar area, which is fine, that's what Amazon is for! So, while I was out, I picked up a couple more window box-type planters for the big kitchen window. Tried to grow one of Walmart's live herb plants in the window, and it croaked immediately, thus the try with seeds instead.
The last gasp of my organizing binge:On top of the other budget busters from last month, I found some reasonably priced, heavy-duty, wire shelving at Sam's Club and had them shipped. These will hold the items that we do store. I was able to donate or throw away more than half over these last few months, but there are certain seasonal things that we must keep, plus a few items for guests, like extra sheets and blankets and pillows, etc.
At the moment, all these items are set on tables in the spare room, but this will regularize things and get them all in file-sized boxes. As a small person, it behooves me to never pack a box larger than a file box, because there is almost nothing that I can't pick up if it fits in a box that size. Plus file boxes are so much easier to stack than odd-sized things!
I finished buying the last of those boxes today, and once the shelves are in this week and put up, and all the boxes onto them, it will be a very good thing. Right now, all that stuff on the tabletops feels all higgledy-piggledy, and it's the last bastion of that chaos in the house, so this will finish my spring-summer and now fall cleaning. Finally!
Because I bought shelves with casters, they will also move around reasonably easily as we finish stripping those rooms to the studs, and having everything in boxes will help keep the contents clean of dust and schmutz while we build the finalized storage room as part of that renovation. That's the notion, anyway...
Now that I've finished organizing my medications for the week, I know which ones I need to order refills for, and to ask for renewals for, as well. Once I'm done with that, it's laundry folding, and getting my elliptical work in before a shower and then Corey will be home. Have to remember to put the potatoes in to bake at 3:30, too, better put an alarm on my phone, or I'll get distracted and forget... Baked potatoes and ham steaks for dinner.
Onward and upward, my chickens... speaking of which, chicken houses always make me think of you, too, Lanette!
Lisa in AR

Just worked. Bowling this afternoon and ceramics tonight.
Lanette – the condo has a rule that you can’t have more than 2 pets. We’ve brought our 4 cats and no one’s ever said anything. I think it’s more that they don’t want 4 barking dogs. But cats are quiet.
Kim – lovely dress. I especially like the coverup
Tracey – what a cute cake. Love the “getting hitched” part. Did you make the icing? If so, what is your recipe?
Barbara – I’ve been tracking my sugar, too. Do you know that one CaraCara orange has more sugar in it than 2 pieces of fudge?
Well, off to bowling

Good afternoon, ladies.
Been a bit busy this morning with laundry and ordering things we will need for our flooring reno project. Want to get everything we need here before we pick up the floor sander. Home Depot is about an hour away so not convenient if we run out of something. Ordered application tools I will need to put the poly down from amazon and should be here next week. Also got extra sanding sheets. Will pick up some more at Home Depot when we get the machine. Ordered the polyurethane I want to use from Home Depot and they will ship to the store....supposed to be in on Thursday. Have to say, getting a bit excited about this project. Been quite awhile since DH and I have done a home repair together. We built our house ourselves and lets just say it had it's challenging moments!
Tracey, like what you are doing with dry walling in your mobile home. We bought one similar to yours but probably a bit older and moved it to the farm to live in while building our home. It was 12 x 68 and probably late '60's. Had dark panel throughout. It was supposed to be just for 3 years but ended up being 8 before our house was ready.....still not complete but livable. Once in, we finished it slowly over the next few years.
Kim and Heather, you both look so good in your wedding attire. That owl would have been amazing to see.
Machka, loved seeing the pics of your honey harvest.
As for makeup, totally stopped using it during the pandemic and have not gone back. Use a moisturizer daily and sometimes a tinted moisturizer if going out and I remember. Have to say, it took awhile to get used to no makeup but I love it and find my skin looks very healthy.
One other thing I wanted to comment on....pets and gardening. I totally agree that both are good for mental health and general well being. I get so much joy out of all my pets (5 cats and 2 dogs). As for the garden, even though I enjoy it, I know it is too large for me now and will cut back considerably next year. At 72 years old, I don't need to garden like I'm feeding a large family.
Enjoy the day.
