Here's to a wonderful October!!

Kim and Heather ~ You both look beautiful in your evening clothes! So chic! Kim, I love your hair! Heather, the wedding party looked so very festive and what this country girl would call "British". The owl idea was something new to me!
Lisa ~ Is there any chance that your grandson can stay in Hawaii with his mom?
Tracey ~ Your cake shows so much imagination. It is as cute as can be and shows a lot of creativity on your part.
Machka ~ About keeping in touch with family. I have 3 brothers and a sister and most of us keep in touch one way or the other. One brother only contacts if someone in the family had a terrible occurrence. The rest through calls, email, and Facebook. We grew up in so much turmoil between our parents that I guess it is important to keep in touch.
Kylia ~ The older I get, I feel like you do about makeup. I had very bad acne when I was young and too much sun has damaged my skin all over. Now I have broken capillaries, enlarged pores and other things related to skin damage. I feel like I have to wear foundation if I leave the house. Yet, I hate the feeling of makeup on my skin so wash it off as soon as possible.
Margaret ~ Very nicely done on your song.
Welcome to new posters! We all love getting to know each other.

Margaret, I enjoyed your singing. I had never heard the song you sang as a benediction. It was truly beautiful. Thank you for sharing the link with us. I also enjoyed hearing a totally different version of the doxology than we sing at our church. I liked the version y’all sing.

MFP Weekly Check-in for October 2, 2023
Kylia in Ohio: 126.6.....can't complain though since I have been eating like a pregnant woman. So this is up 2 pounds. Looking forward to a new week!
RVRita in NM: I forgot all about this yesterday! So here goes… I am 1/2 pound down from last Sunday. Better than last week. The only issue is that DH bought Halloween candy and made on purpose to buy me Tootsie Rolls. They are my favorite! I told him this morning I appreciated it but never do it again!! LOL
Debbie in Napa Valley CA: 154.2- pretty much the same as last week.
Lanette SW WA State: scale down a teensy bit this week. But the best part is – total 2.5 lbs since starting this check-in/accountability on July 24th. Slow and steady wins the race. Again – cutting out sugar and most processed foods and going 12 to 14 hours between supper and breakfast seem to be the key.

Back from town, picked up my "I could be a billionaire by midnight!" tickets... and a few other bits and bobs.
I've ordered eight different kinds of basil seeds for planting for an indoor herb garden. We want to try the different kinds of basil, and foodie-type items like that are really hard to find near us--it's still a pretty blue-collar area, which is fine, that's what Amazon is for! So, while I was out, I picked up a couple more window box-type planters for the big kitchen window. Tried to grow one of Walmart's live herb plants in the window, and it croaked immediately, thus the try with seeds instead.
The last gasp of my organizing binge:On top of the other budget busters from last month, I found some reasonably priced, heavy-duty, wire shelving at Sam's Club and had them shipped. These will hold the items that we do store. I was able to donate or throw away more than half over these last few months, but there are certain seasonal things that we must keep, plus a few items for guests, like extra sheets and blankets and pillows, etc.
At the moment, all these items are set on tables in the spare room, but this will regularize things and get them all in file-sized boxes. As a small person, it behooves me to never pack a box larger than a file box, because there is almost nothing that I can't pick up if it fits in a box that size. Plus file boxes are so much easier to stack than odd-sized things!
I finished buying the last of those boxes today, and once the shelves are in this week and put up, and all the boxes onto them, it will be a very good thing. Right now, all that stuff on the tabletops feels all higgledy-piggledy, and it's the last bastion of that chaos in the house, so this will finish my spring-summer and now fall cleaning. Finally!
Because I bought shelves with casters, they will also move around reasonably easily as we finish stripping those rooms to the studs, and having everything in boxes will help keep the contents clean of dust and schmutz while we build the finalized storage room as part of that renovation. That's the notion, anyway...
Now that I've finished organizing my medications for the week, I know which ones I need to order refills for, and to ask for renewals for, as well. Once I'm done with that, it's laundry folding, and getting my elliptical work in before a shower and then Corey will be home. Have to remember to put the potatoes in to bake at 3:30, too, better put an alarm on my phone, or I'll get distracted and forget... Baked potatoes and ham steaks for dinner.
Onward and upward, my chickens... speaking of which, chicken houses always make me think of you, too, Lanette!

Just worked. Bowling this afternoon and ceramics tonight.
Lanette – the condo has a rule that you can’t have more than 2 pets. We’ve brought our 4 cats and no one’s ever said anything. I think it’s more that they don’t want 4 barking dogs. But cats are quiet.
Kim – lovely dress. I especially like the coverup
Tracey – what a cute cake. Love the “getting hitched” part. Did you make the icing? If so, what is your recipe?
Barbara – I’ve been tracking my sugar, too. Do you know that one CaraCara orange has more sugar in it than 2 pieces of fudge?
Well, off to bowling

Good afternoon, ladies.
Been a bit busy this morning with laundry and ordering things we will need for our flooring reno project. Want to get everything we need here before we pick up the floor sander. Home Depot is about an hour away so not convenient if we run out of something. Ordered application tools I will need to put the poly down from amazon and should be here next week. Also got extra sanding sheets. Will pick up some more at Home Depot when we get the machine. Ordered the polyurethane I want to use from Home Depot and they will ship to the store....supposed to be in on Thursday. Have to say, getting a bit excited about this project. Been quite awhile since DH and I have done a home repair together. We built our house ourselves and lets just say it had it's challenging moments!
Tracey, like what you are doing with dry walling in your mobile home. We bought one similar to yours but probably a bit older and moved it to the farm to live in while building our home. It was 12 x 68 and probably late '60's. Had dark panel throughout. It was supposed to be just for 3 years but ended up being 8 before our house was ready.....still not complete but livable. Once in, we finished it slowly over the next few years.
Kim and Heather, you both look so good in your wedding attire. That owl would have been amazing to see.
Machka, loved seeing the pics of your honey harvest.
As for makeup, totally stopped using it during the pandemic and have not gone back. Use a moisturizer daily and sometimes a tinted moisturizer if going out and I remember. Have to say, it took awhile to get used to no makeup but I love it and find my skin looks very healthy.
One other thing I wanted to comment on....pets and gardening. I totally agree that both are good for mental health and general well being. I get so much joy out of all my pets (5 cats and 2 dogs). As for the garden, even though I enjoy it, I know it is too large for me now and will cut back considerably next year. At 72 years old, I don't need to garden like I'm feeding a large family.
Enjoy the day.

Guess you could say I wore my monkey feet out, no tread and holes on the heels, had to break down and get a new pair

The grandgirls came around with cards for me - all very sweet and humorous, that they had made themselves. I felt very loved. Max also did a funny card. They were on their way to Art K, so couldn't stay. My son gave me some very superior Sauternes, and Burgundy wine. He stashed them all in the shed when he gave up alcohol, and is gradually getting rid of them! Very much appreciated.
DH'S Moussaka was heavenly. We had champagne with it.
I feel so happy that so many people love me. I used to feel that I didn't deserve that love. I think I'm getting over that.
While I was greeting the girls, DH got a phone call to be told that yet another old friend/colleague had died. His Christmas card list is getting ever shorter.
Welcome to all the new people, especially to the Scottish contingent! I live in Brighton and Hove. I love visiting Scotland. Have friends and an ex there. I lived for 40 years in London.

Regarding make-up in this part of the world ...
It seems to be that those under 20 and those over 70 wear the most make-up. It kind of eases off after 20 and builds up toward 70.
In between those ages, women tend not to wear make-up or just a touch of foundation. And maybe a hint of mascara to dress up.
I would feel very self conscious if I wore more than foundation.
And people rarely wear perfume either. Thank goodness! It sets off my allergies.

The other day I realized that my mother has been gone almost 60 years !
Got my new mahjongg card. I am still mad at myself for throwing out the old one
Going to watch a bit of TV. Hope I don’t fall asleep!

how young were you when she passed away- I can't imagine having my parent gone that long- (especially beings I am 61yrs old)- dad has been gone going on 3 yrs and that is hard for me to imagine.

Hit Facebook Page in header. I am in the now 3rd site down. The second one you see is our later service with a band. I am about eighteen minutes in and at the end of the service.1 -
Barbara-Cats in spoiler below. The gray is Zombu-she is part siamese and has a meow to wake the dead. She likes to get underfoot and will sleep with me-most often at the head.
The tortoise is Lucy. Think Garfield-she is very independent and cool. Seldom meows and does so softly and with purpose (like if water bowl would be empty she will sit in kitchen, look up at me, meow and then look to water). She gets on the arm of the couch for petting for about five minutes per day. They tolerate each other. They are both 14 but Lucy seems older-lots of arthritis I think.
Pip-you weren't kidding about wearing out a pair of shoes! Very smart to not push it and get a blister. I wore a dress today with a pair of slip ons and the box is just a bit tight-small buster on side of toe.
Joy-refinishing floors with husband will be a testament to your relationship!
Margaret-thanks so much for sharing music.
Make up-used to wear it all the time when young, some during college. It has always bothered me and made me feel like my skin can't breathe. Have tried various foundations, etc. I have so many freckles and age spots there is no chance of having an even tone-so I don't worry about it any more. Don't have any in the house and don't miss it.
I know I missed things but I am pretty tired. I did go for walk after dinner (it was in the 80s today so I waited until it cooled a bit). Got trash to the curb. Think I am going to go read.
Take care all,
