I don't leave the rice cooker on at night(unless by chance I forgot to unplug it-I don't eat much rice but it is a must for dh, even though, as a diabetic, it shouldn't be)
BUT, there are so many "little red glow lights" around the house that I never turn lights on at night. Red lights from electronics, fairy lights in both bathrooms, outdoor flood light in the front yard that lights up the kitchen. Last time I counted around12-14 different little "red lights" just in the bedroom alone. That doesn't help with me sleeping- need to pull the eye mask out again.

We've got the lights from our clocks, but those are the only little red lights in the bedroom.
And I have trouble sleeping without my mask now.

I have used my masks but the ones I have tried I am not comfortable in- I don't like the feeling of the pressure on them- I usually loosen the strap so it is barely on.
Son and dh both have no trouble sleeping with the lights on- son says he doesn't sleep as sound so he can hear his alarm in the morning(otherwise, he sleeps right through the alarm)
Dh usually falls asleep with the lights on, tv on w/the volumn up louder than I would want it when I was actually awake and watching it. Many nights I am looking around for the remote, usually under him.
I don't like the fairy lights on in the master bathroom but have gotten used to them and the big thing is that it helps so dh doesn't turn the light/fan(one switch) on during the night to use the bathroom. That is the worst- light is bright, fan is loud, even though the box said it is quiet(quieter than the old one but not as quiet as I want it). I used to close the door but now have to keep it open for the cats-one litter box is now in there.
What if you just had a night light in the bathroom, for husband to see his way to the bathroom?

no, but I can, and have slept on the couch in the living room. Maybe one day I will get my sewing room cleaned out all the way and I can put something in there(don't think I will). Too much craft stuff in there.
Sleep is a very high priority for me ... above exercise and eating!
I would go to great lengths to make sure I have a quiet sleeping place to retire to each night.
My husband and I have a sleeping pod. We separated our king-sized bed into two twin beds, and moved them so that our heads are in opposite corners.
We each have a night table, there's my sock shelf and there's a very small, but tall chest of drawers for odds and ends ... nothing either of us need to access while the other one is sleeping.
The room is dark because the light blocking curtains are always closed.
It's a small room - only for sleeping and reading.
The room next to the sleeping pod is our dressing room. It holds all the wardrobes, dressers, etc.

Accidentally used something on my face the other day with essential oils in it, or possibly just one essential oil, but that's all it takes. A few years ago, I discovered I was allergic to essential oils so I've avoided them, but occasionally someone sneaks them into something.
Now suffering from an allergic reaction.
I need to get ahold of topical corticosteroids / hydrocortisone cream.

What are the symptoms of an allergic reaction to essential oils?
A couple are:
Contact dermatitis

The fire alarm chirped again in the middle of the night. This is driving me crazy. The only way I know to stop it is to start the air conditioning. So it is going to be mighty chilly. Maybe I can call the furnace guy in the morning. I tried to get my father to agree to have all the alarms replaced because they are all twenty years old. But he doesn't hear the alarm so it doesn't bother him. He is getting more and more adrift from reality. But he dismisses my input. What is that saying about the lunatics running the asylum?
Yesterday he had a dentist appointment while I went to visit Mom in rehab. I thought he would go by himself later, but he blew it off. He just ignores anything he doesn't feel like doing, like putting his stuff away or sorting the mail. I need to stop thinking of him as a responsible adult when his dementia is getting so bad. But I can't even nag him because he doesn't hear me. His new hearing aids come on the 17th so that should help until he loses them.
Then I get upset and lose sleep over the whole
situation. Because he is in great shape physically
so this could go on for ten years. A scary thought.
He does do all the yardwork, so I should be thankful for that. Except the weeding. That's gotten out of hand lately because I didn't take over.
Well, sure enough, the alarm stopped chirping. Thanks for listening to me rant. It helps to have you all in my pocket!

Can you just organise to have the alarms replaced, and take your father to the dentist?
Sometimes there comes the point where you just have to, as you say, stop thinking of him as a responsible adult, and step in and make the decisions.
If he questions why the alarms are being replaced, you could tell him he organised it.

Morning all. Just a quick fly by. I am out at Latin this morning and have 5 new members starting. A couple more will strat in November.
I’m going to card making after lunch. At least I just have to turn up for that.
Next Monday I have Creative Writing and Monday Painters. Then Latin again on Friday.
At least it all gets me out of the house and active 😝

My friend loved her gifts. We had a great time visiting with friends. The food was good.
Annie You are in a tough position. Your parents are lucky to have you taking care of them. I like Machka's suggestion. My aunt did that with my grandmother and smoking. She would leave a butt in the ashtray and tell GM that she had just had one and couldn't have another yet. Unknowingly my GM was a nonsmoker the last three years of her life. I hope you are looking into help resources. As always, try to remember to take care of you.
I love all the crafty ladies. Painting, writing, flowers, gardening, etc. It is inspiring that so many of you are active in so many ways. Most days I feel like all I do is work and sleep. And only one of those takes up lots of hours.....
Anxiety is high today. 😕 Not sure why. Was "off kilter" on Tuesday as well. Oh that was not the thing to do when anxiety high.....I stepped on the scale! I haven't seen that number but once since April of 2017! I KNOW it is just water weight from eating out last night, but still a kick in the pants. It took me 3 years to get away from that number. Water is on the priority today. Inflammation may also be contributing. Butt to toes have been cramping badly. Took magnesium before bed, but think it interfered with hormone, between hot flashes and cramps it was a long night. Will take again this morning instead. So tennis ball, hot tub, and water today. Like several other ladies I need to figure out sleep ( I average 6 hrs a night) but today is water.
So 13th, ask for help with something challenging... I reckon I will ask DH to check on my water today. Scary thought, but he is actually good at that. That is the most challenging thing in my current programming.
It is Friday the 13th...may your day be positive and maybe a little exciting.

Heather – Hope your trip continues to be all you hoped it would be. Stay safe. Love the pictures! That Osage orange tree is what I grew up calling a “bo-dark,” tree, actually spelled “bois d’arc.” Those fruits are lethal if you’re the target of a brother throwing them, but aren’t edible, unfortunately. The French name, which translates as “wooden bow” is because the wood of the tree was used for bows by the Native Americans in the area where I grew up in Texas. Funny that you’re in France, where they call it the Osage orange.
Allie – The only one who knows you’re not allergic to smoke is you. Tell them you are! Tell them secondhand smoke is detrimental to lupus. Whatever you need to do so Alfie isn’t standing on your head at midnight yelling at people. Sorry the family isn’t feeling well, and hope you didn’t catch a cold.
Lanette – Hope your back is doing better… When it’s not working right, the whole body gets engaged in trying to protect it from being in pain, it seems like. Do hope it’s feeling well enough to attend your Master Gardener class. My dear friend, I KNOW this pottery class is good for me at the social level, even though I dread it… and that class would be good for you, too. Stop dreading the thought and just go, woman! You can always get up and walk around, it’s not like high school… This is from a woman who has to convince herself every single Thursday that I need to go, but I always enjoy it once I'm there. How are our chickens doing?
Terri - And speaking of busy people who DO get out of the house... Love that arrangement, it's just absolutely beautiful.
Vicki – Much traveling grace coming your way and hope it’s a particularly wonderful trip. So pleased you’re taking time off – you work harder than most people I’ve ever known and certainly deserve the nine days off.
Barbara – Hope the Medford trip went well.
Joy – No experience with the Ninja cookers or fryers – but the stove we’ve had for a bit over a year now is an air fryer as well as a convection oven and conventional oven, and we are finding new ways to love the air fryer function all the time. We do have a Ninja blender that we’ve had for eight or nine years, and it has been great – Corey still uses it for making his salsas, etc., each summer, so it gets a workout every year.
Annie – I wish I had advice, I just don’t. Many, many hugs, though, and so much respect for the dilemma you live in constantly. How’s your mama doing?

Real quick to Annie- Home smoke detectors have a "shelf life" of 10 years. If it is a smoke/CO detector, they only last 5-7 years. It is not about the battery, the actual components inside of them break down. So...Google that and show dad. Time to replace them! Check with your local fire dept. Many of them have smoke detectors that they give away for free! xoxoxo KJ4

My mom is slowly getting stronger, and better able to move herself around the bed and transfer to wheelchair and such. People keep asking me when she can come home, and I say when she can climb the stairs without help. It's true that I could bathe her and help her to the bathroom, but I can't replace a whole staff 24/7. My dirty little secret is that I'm not eager for her to come home because it would be hard for me to leave the house at all.
Yes I have to push the issue of replacing the smoke detectors. The challenge is finding someone who can climb the ladder and do it.

I just talked to my dad and he allowed me to call an electrician for the fire alarms! Yay! They are coming on Monday.

Morning, ladies.
We replaced our smoke alarms a couple of years ago and for some unknown reason, DH put the old ones in the back of a kitchen cupboard instead of taking them to our local dump for disposal. Went to bed last night and about an hour later we hear the alarm going off and it's one that says words also....very loudly....evacuate, evacuate. Took a few minutes to figure out where the sound was coming from. We knew there was no fire and finally found the unit in the kitchen cupboard. Took a bit to figure out how to turn the thing off then DH set it outside. We will take it on our next dump run. Took awhile to get back to sleep.
Costco has shipped my Ninja and says should be here by the end of the day but I doubt it as I checked and it's coming from Calgary. My DD has a Ninja air fryer and loves it. I bought a couple of non stick fry pans from Ninja a couple of years ago and love them. Very well built and used quite often. Nothing sticks and so far nothing flaking off from the non stick surface.
Nothing planned for the day. Windy, cool and overcast here. Enjoying my second cup of coffee as I read through the thread.

Went to pickup my new glasses yesterday and they had the wrong lens. So they are sending them back. So will be another couple weeks.
I am so looking forward to getting away for 9 days. I plan to just go with the flow and walk when we stop and try and eat light. See how it goes.
