Lisa - we'll see how I feel tomorrow re going to the MG training. Early morning I wasn't worth a hill of beans and climbing into the car would have been dicey. I was feeling much better yesterday so overdid it of course - we finally had a sunny window before 5 days of rain. I first was going to rake leaves and that kind of hurt so I climbed on the riding mower, lol. After I took an ibuprofen this morning, (which I rarely take) and went for a walk with my neighbor, plus have the TENS unit plastered to my lower back, I'm feeling pretty good.
Glad you got that raccoon to hit the road. Our chickens are doing fine, they are such good girls. I let them out three or four times a day to do a little free ranging while I top up their feed, clean the coop or just tidy up in the run. When I'm ready for them to come back in, all I have to do is say "chick chick" and they come running for the handful of scratch I throw in.
Here's the maple tree with abundant leaves that will need to be cleaned up in the next few weeks. I'll be able to mow a lot in, but want to grab some for the compost heap.
Vicki - I was so happy to read you'll be gone for 9 days. A well deserved break for you. Sorry they messed up the lens on your new glasses. Crossing fingers your new employee will work out well.
Annie - so glad you'll be able to get the electrician out to get after those smoke detectors. The way you talked, I figured they were the wired-in ones. They are still on my list for replacement too, and as far as I know, this is licensed electrician stuff and he'll have to wire in a whole new thing-a-ma-jig in each of the 4 receptacles plus install the doo-dads that cover them. I have other things that need tending like a circuit breaker replaced for the microwave too. I've been so busy getting the outside tasks done this summer I haven't had time to think about the inside ones.
Joy - oh yes, the smoke detectors that refuse to die! I think I ended up throwing one in the freezer to stifle the noise, then later running it over with the car and smashing it to smithereens. I threw another one out the window on my drive to town, lol.

Levi sighting... they wear aloha or football attire on Fridays for the daycares and schools... Can you believe he will be four in just a couple months?

Last night, while we're just quietly sitting in the living room reading, a raccoon peered into the living room window through the screen--had it decided to, it could have ripped through it with one claw... Corey scrambled and got the pellet gun, walked around the house, and popped it in the butt from around 20 feet away - it fell off its perch with a grunt and a lot of growling. Didn't kill it - we try not to, we just want to teach them it's not a good place to visit. He popped it again from further away (in the dark!) as it was headed for the fence. He's a really good shot. That will hopefully keep the raccoon away from the house, but closed that window anyway!
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in cool, rainy, but still green for a few more weeks, Arkansas
I need to start using dh's airsoft gun on these raccoons.
I am trying to find the vent covers for the ones around the house(outside, venting under the house)
The ones I am looking for have springs so what ever is under the house can get out but cant get back under. I saw them once, years ago and didn't order them, now can't find them.

Had a very substantial dinner, which was a bit tourist level, but quite good. I got them to turn the music down. But I feel absolutely stuffed. For the cheese course I had the local speciality, Cervelles des Canutes. It isn't 'brains', but a kind of lumpy cottage cheese, mixed with chives and scallions. Very nice.
They are open on a Saturday, but most restaurants are shut for the weekend!!!!! I have never been in a place where that happens! I know Sunday evening and Monday are difficult in France, but Saturday night! The few that are open are fully booked. I rang 6 or 7. Very strange. We might go back to this one, or get a pizza, or buy something from the supermarket. The hotel does heated tins!
Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy, but mild. I think we will go to a famous gourmet market near here, and then to the city art gallery.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -

There are companies who do that sort of thing.
But first, call the fire department.
Ah, I see that you've got someone coming in.
But remember, don't wait for your parents to "allow" you to do something. You're the carer ... just do it!
Also, check those carer resources I've posted earlier. See what kind of help you can get for yourself first, and your parents.

We found that during the months we've spent cycling in France.
We'd be able to find places to eat all right for a while, then all of a sudden they'd all shut down for a day or two!!
One place we ended up getting packaged camping meals from a sporting goods store because that was the only food around.

Annie: I have to echo what others have said here about reversing roles with your parents. One of the best "tools" in the caregiver kit is the ability and skill to utilize compassionate lies. I learned this from my social worker and the Alzheimer association. Please try and find
more home care resources (PEOPLE) before you bring mom back home. Hugs and waves of energy to you.
Lisa: Oooh that Levi! How well I remember Aloha Fridays from my 17 years in Honolulu. Always wore a pretty Hawaiian print dress to work.
Heather: You have the capacity to make every meal, regardless of where procured, into a special fare. Enjoy Lyon.
Vicki: Yay for 9 days off work. Get better and relax.
I have to jump off here and dress to work at the symphony tonight. This weekend I'll be having lunch with my lady friends and also work a pre-season basketball game for my World Champion Denver Nuggets. Seems like yesterday that I attended the parade downtown. Can we repeat in 2024? Sure hope so!!!
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Heather, glad you got a chuckle out of my smoke detector saga! Enjoying your holiday pics and you certainly look happy and relaxed.
Lanette, good to hear others have had challenges with killing off those darn dectectors!
Saw the pic of macarons from France. Brought back memories of my river cruise on the Rhine river. They were served quite often and were so good.

Husband said he saw them in Safeway and just got them. He didn't know the price until he scanned them, $10! But they are excellent, a nice crunch, and creamy inside. 💖

Walking yesterday ...
Cycling today ...
Accidentally used something on my face the other day with essential oils in it, or possibly just one essential oil, but that's all it takes. A few years ago, I discovered I was allergic to essential oils so I've avoided them, but occasionally someone sneaks them into something.
Now suffering from an allergic reaction.
I need to get ahold of topical corticosteroids / hydrocortisone cream.
https://www.healthline.com/health/essential-oil-allergic-reaction
What are the symptoms of an allergic reaction to essential oils?
A couple are:
Contact dermatitis
"Contact dermatitis is an itchy, red rash that develops when certain substances touch your skin directly.
There are two types: irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis.
In addition to itchy, red rash, both types of contact dermatitis share other symptoms:
- dry, cracked, or scaly skin
- oozing blisters or bumps
- burning and stinging sensation
Allergic contact dermatitis is the most common allergic reaction to essential oils."
"It’s a delayed hypersensitivity reaction, which means that you might not notice symptoms until 12 to 72 hours after exposure."
Hives
"Hives (urticaria) have many possible triggers, including food, medication, insect stings, infections, and more. They can appear on any part of your body and are characterized by:
- raised red bumps (welts) that often itch
- welts that can vary in size and often repeatedly appear and fade"
Machka in Oz
Got some cream for my face and neck. Hopefully it will help!
Be very, very careful with those essential oils, if you use them!! They're toxic unless they are very well diluted.

When my FIL was still alive and my BIL and SIL didn't care for him I contacted Connecticut community care for the Elderly, im sure Delaware has something of the sort there.. It was a blessing..they went by my FIL income and he was provided transportation to adult daycare 5 days a week with a hot meal and activities and companions and homemakers 4 hrs on Saturday and Sunday, meals on wheels which he promply locked them out of the house lol and a life alert and Ocupational therapy all for 108.00 a month.
It was a load off of our mind because Tom and I lived an hour away. And as it was I was going on my days off to do his pills and make him ham sandwiches that he could just grab out of the fridge..
They could have cared less..
Anyways see if you can find something like that ,it would be a help for both your parents and you...good luck..

My mom is slowly getting stronger, and better able to move herself around the bed and transfer to wheelchair and such. People keep asking me when she can come home, and I say when she can climb the stairs without help. It's true that I could bathe her and help her to the bathroom, but I can't replace a whole staff 24/7. My dirty little secret is that I'm not eager for her to come home because it would be hard for me to leave the house at all.
Yes I have to push the issue of replacing the smoke detectors. The challenge is finding someone who can climb the ladder and do it.

Machka I hope the cream is working. My SIL uses essential oils and has always told me that they must be carefully chosen and properly handled. What really sucks is that you were unaware that they were in the lotion.
Rosemarie You have had plenty of reasons to be tired. I think you are doing wonderfully. Listen to your body and nap as you can. Healing takes time.
My anxiety calmed later in the day. Until 5 pm anyway. I realized my laptop hadn't arrived yet. We close at 530. Fedex is anything but timely. Surprisingly we have had the same FedEx driver for two weeks. He showed up at 5:25! He said he still had to finish across the road but realized the time and knew we closed at 530, so made a detour to us. I was very appreciative!
Did work stuffs and hung with DH watching Hawaii 5O tonight. OH, he failed on the water reminders today. Good thing I was trying to stay on top of it.

It was in liquid soap ... which I used to wash my face and neck. I look like I'm 13 years old again.
I detected that the soap smelled of peppermint but didn't realise that it was peppermint essential oil until too late.
The pharmacist asked if I was taking antihistamines (I am) and told me that if the cream didn't help in the next couple days, I should see a doctor!
This morning was slightly worse, but now that I have the cream, I hope that things will start to improve.

Annie - I think it’s getting to the point where you just need to take over. It’s a tough situation to be in.
Do they do assessments there for level of care required for your parents? It’s a starting point at least.
Lisa - we have wished a few times we had a BB gun for squirrels here at our place. Our neighbour feeds them, but they are destructive and chew through things.
Rosemarie - I have friends that said the tiredness from Covid lasted for months. I hope yours doesn’t last that long.
I think that if it were just me, I would cancel a majority of the cable.
Heather - you have a way that makes me feel as if I’m travelling with you.
I am as shocked as you about Saturday night closures.
Rita - I sometimes enjoy traffic delays so I can be alone longer. It’s one place that no one expects me to text or talk.
Beth - Happy Birthday to your husband.
Lanette - I love your maple.
Lisa - How sweet is Levi!
Allie - I learned through my hip and back pains that me pushing myself just set me back every time. When I started going to massage therapy in The Spring this year I finally started getting relief. She gave me some very simple exercises, but most importantly she told me what I was doing wrong. I was like you and tried to live a normal day keeping up with everyone. When I finally started healing was when I admitted I couldn’t do it. Her and I worked together to determine what ratio of sitting and standing/walking worked for me. At first it was 10 minutes before sitting for 5. Gradually we worked it down. I never sit for more than 20 -25 minutes without getting up for 5-10 usually more now. On days I overdo it I feel better the next morning now instead of 3 weeks.
Machka - I hope the cream helps you fast.
I am now Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certified. My next task is to find my immunization records from childhood. I will need to call NB to find out how to he these.
I will be making a couple of presents tomorrow to send to NB with Kaitlyn on Sunday.
Next week we will have the grand-dog Ember here.

Good morning all. I'm so excited. I have stuck to this diet for one month. That's a win for me!! It was more than ten years ago when I found MFP and I lost 60 pounds. I gained it all back and then some but I'm determined to do it again. I'm not healthy and need to do this for me. The motivation groups helped me so much to stay the course last time. Thank you ladies for this group!!!!10

Machka: I hope the cream works on your face and that you find some relief soon.
Allie: I am impressed you found such help for your father in law! My husband had paid caregivers which was still cheaper than a nursing home but still didn't cover most of the hours in the week.
I have been up since 4am. Last evening my brother and I had a text conversation about the possibility of my mother leaving MA and coming to live with me in GA. I think this would shock her. She is 92. We are friendly but not close. She is a terrific grandmother and a very nice person. I want to be a good daughter but must admit the thought of caregiving again is exhausting. She lives independent right now and is active. I don't think it will happen but am not sure what will happen.
I want to leave town every 3 months while I am still young enough to do so. Maybe this isn't in the cards for me.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia9 -
Rosemarie ummmm, why couldn't mom live with brother? Just curious. I hope that is a decision that can wait for awhile. Some folks always live independently, so hope that is the case for you. This is especially true if they have a village to assist. Hugs!
Good Saturday,
Head hurts this morning. Weather change coming. I only got up to pee last night. No leg cramps. They still ache but I am sure that is residual from the cramping. I drank water, electrolytes, took one magnesium pill, and rolled my "buns" and hips before bed. My DH was laughing at me. From his position he said I looked like the bears on the Charmin commercial rubbing my butt. Lol! We have an interior brick wall on my side of the bed. It holds the tennis ball really well. I must be doing it right because hips and buns are tender this morning. Maybe this will help my masseuse by getting some of the larger muscle groups to relax.
Work this morning, then Bronco to get windows tinted, then down to Kentucky. It will be later when we get there but really need to do an inspection and turn the heat on. We haven't been down since August. I will work on training stuffs while there since calling for rain. If we don't go it won't rain, if we go it will pour.
Working on getting new laptop set up. I am still trying to decide if I should take it or just the old one. It is an updated version of the one I have with a much larger memory, ram, and processor. I do have to take it to work to set up my goto program. We will see.....There is not nuch wrong with the old one other than the cord doesn't attach well for charging and the memory is small. I am getting quite the collection of unused computers though. I have two desk tops at work, one desktop at home, and 3 laptops , an old tablet, and an old Kindle....all old, slow, and not able to keep up with new programs, etc. Will need to figure out what to do with them one day.
We will see how DH does reminding me to drink today. Seriously, this is a problem for me.
14. Do something constructive to help a difficult situation...working on my attitude about SIL leaving work early almost always. Literally, I want to leave her alone at shop with my DH and see how she handles it, since he is helpless at the parts counter/register, but then realize she can't handle it when she has the mechanic helping that does know the counter. Soooo....myvattitude is what needs to change.
Time to get out of hot tub, roll my buns, pack, and get ready for work. No I haven't gotten on scale today. Frankly I am afraid..,,,

Good Saturday morning, my dears, from pre-dawn Arkansas,
I was up at 5:30 this morning; it was a restless night, with odd dreams all night long, one of which woke me at about 4 a.m., and I woke up thinking, "but there's no such thing as a twenty-five dollar bill!" and then went back to sleep again. As I said, just odd.
Our son John turns 30 today, I have to remember to poke Corey later and remind him to call him. I called him yesterday to wish him well and spoke to him for 15 or 20 minutes.
Tracey - Well done on the certification!
Rori - Always good to see your face... I love hearing about Kelsey's life in Hawaii. It always strikes me as funny, though, when the military acts like a corporation with casual Fridays or in her case, Aloha Fridays. Especially when you know that the following week, they may well be undergoing a nuclear/biological/chemical warfare exercise. Cognitive dissonance in action.
Waxing on about our kids:Regarding our daughter: I talked to Kelsey for over an hour yesterday, just nattering about the little things... and the big things.
I think this time in Hawaii is going to stay in her memory as an idyllic time when the kids are still small and she and her husband spend the first years of a marriage that seems to be working well. They are both surprised on a constant basis by each other's kindnesses and take joy in the other's successes, and neither one ever really had that before in a relationship.
Kelsey told me yesterday that until she married Cruz and settled down with him, she never actually knew what her favorite color was. No one had ever asked her! He encourages her to go take a morning for herself while he shepherds the kids, and is overall just helping her grow as a person. He doesn't think she must identify just as a wife and mother, and it's so good for her.
It goes for him, too. She said he was absolutely flabbergasted that she bought him an aloha shirt that she knew he would like and had the shirt and his coffee ready for him when he got up at 3:30 yesterday morning to go to work early. I don't think either of them was ever really treated as if they mattered by their previous spouses.
I remember, coming out of a neglectful marriage, how astounded I was by the simple fact that Corey would notice something I did. I described a ring that my mother had that mattered to me, and he went out and got something similar for me. I didn't know how to deal with a man who actually saw me and wanted me to have things that mattered.
This is the third marriage for both of them, and they're finding out what love actually means for the first time. Fun to listen to her, a year after getting married, still pretty giddy about the whole thing.
Regarding our son: He and his fiancée are planning to move to Fayetteville (about an hour and a half north of us) in April, so only another six months or so. It will be interesting. The benefit as far as I'm concerned is that it's far enough away that they won't visit every weekend, but when they do, they will be able to go back home instead of staying for days on end. that should make life a lot easier for all concerned.
Our weekends are usually busy with project work, so if they're here, we'll put them to work... That should be interesting because, bless her heart, she's a bossy little thing. On the other hand, our son John is of the "Look, I cut my finger, so I think I'll go get a cup of coffee and watch y'all work," persuasion. I love him, but have few illusions about him...Time to get out of hot tub, roll my buns, pack, and get ready for work.
Kylia - OK - "get out of the hot tub and roll my buns" is, without doubt, one of the better sign-offs.
Machka - Good grief, woman, hope the allergic reaction diminishes soon...
Happy weekend, my peoples...
Love,
