Oops, the storm is beginning!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Heather - I just checked your weather. ICK! Looks like a couple days of sustained winds at least 30 MPH with much higher gusts. Is this normal fall/winter weather for the UK? By the way, if you mention at some point you think you might be getting a UTI, you can guarantee we'll be dropping broad hints about testing, lol. I bet you'll be right on it.
Tracey - when I picked up the wood pieces yesterday, the manager told me no one seems interested in them until the fall when the weather starts to turn then they realize they need firewood, but I immediately thought what a treasure trove for crafters, never mind firewood. Maybe the crafters got some really nice pieces in the summer.
Okie - I could tell right away you were Ellie Mae. You hang around with a fun bunch! Good luck on the knee replacements. I'm sure you'll be glad to get this done.
Rebecca - good for Lee deciding not to drive when it's dark anymore. Smart move. My walking neighbor told me about a mini vacation they went on a few weeks ago, decided to drive their motor home in the dark. Her DH's vision is poor and they were on 2-lane Hwy 12 over the pass. He was weaving a lot and often crossing the center line and swerving into the fog line. YIKES. They got stopped by a state trooper who thought he must have been drunk. That right there's another reason I curtail my own driving after dark - too many OTHER old people in the road, lol.
Karen - Hope everything is going well at your end and your grands, brother, and spouse are doing well. I think you were in the process of selling a house and that was going to be a big job. You've had a lot of changes in your life the past couple years with the move to the fun and interesting new residence, your spouse's health, re-connecting with your brother.
I was up WAY too early, am working on my budget and the grocery list for this morning.
Have a great day, ladies.

Thank you Barbie
Okie Loved the costume...Looked like you were having a great time!
Had about 50 for trick or treat. I was about the only one on our block handing out treats. It was all people driving in with cars. It was cold last night. I only did it between 6-8 and bought 90 pieces of candy. I figured the time or the amount of candy was the limit. If I do this next year I will do it the same way. Much better than past years where I went from 6-9 and over 100 sometimes.
From Facebook...Loved this...Great way to start the day! HAPPY PILLS!

Good morning ladies!
Thank you Barbie!
Margaret I love those Happy pills! So cute and so true!
Lisa congratulations on your new ride! I have a subcompact SUV, a Kia Soul. Much easier to drive and park, because it's smaller, and yet tall enough to see out. There is some flipping risk with a tall car but I don't drive like that anymore.
Heather glad you are feeling better. Stay safe indoors!
Pip so proud of you and your training!
We have several pounds of cheap candy leftovers. I let my Dad hand it out while I stayed upstairs with Teddy. My little dog barks wildly every time the front door opens. He gets underfoot and often dashes out onto the porch. I really ought to train him better, but it's easier to keep him upstairs.
It's a pretty day but chilly. Another trip to see Mom in rehab today. I only missed two days out of five weeks. She was unhappy yesterday but she waited for me instead of asking the staff for help. Her memory is so poor she is lucky she isn't in a memory care facility. We rely on her roommate to tell us what is going on. We have a meeting Friday and hopefully will get a discharge date then.

Machka - Love the coloring patterns! I loved kaleidoscopes so much as a child and was so fascinated by how they changed. As an adult, I've always been attracted to mandalas, especially the hugely colorful ones. I like the symbolism of them, as well: "A mandala is a symbol of the universe in its ideal form, and its creation signifies the transformation of a universe of suffering into one of joy." How apt for our current world. Also, as someone who cooked professionally and personally for more than three decades, I would much rather get help with the dishes after the meal than have someone help me with the cooking. It's a good excuse to give them if someone says, "Would you like to help?" just tell them you're useless as a cook, but more than happy to do the dishes...
Allie - It's always good to sleep on those kinds of large decisions. Mine in buying the Kicks may have seemed impulsive, but we discussed for about a year whether to buy a vehicle, which vehicle type to buy, and so on. I was ready to pull the trigger on it, so I discussed it one last time with Corey on his call to say good morning at 8 a.m. yesterday. First time I've shopped for a vehicle by myself since I was single, more than 40 years ago! He loved it that he didn't have to shop for a vehicle, he just let me do that and brought one that I thought was a good idea to him to look it over. If I wasn't married to him, I would take it to a mechanic anyway... I will admit that, as Tracey says, I don't think I'll go back to a car again. SUVs, even the smallest ones, give you better visibility in traffic, they're more comfortable, and you don't have to worry if things don't fit in your trunk.
Margaret - Those happy pills are hilarious.
Rebecca - I'm waiting until sunrise to go in and get my lab tests done, because of my aversion to driving in the dark. Well done to Lee for recognizing it's an issue for him.
And, speaking of which, the land is brighter than it was and I can get on my way. It's only 22 degrees here, there's frost all over the grass, and I will be wearing my big heavy coat! Will probably stop at Walmart on the way back. Time to get moving!
Later y'all,
Love from the frosty River Valley of Arkansas

Thx, I haven’t trained nearly as much as I should’ve. Kirby on the other hand has. Since he’s not doing the MS ride, he’s been running a lot longer while I was still riding. I’ll be happy if I can finish it in 2-1/2 hours. (Usually finish in about 2 hours). Since I’ll be carrying the backpack, I’m going to weigh it today to see how much extra weight I’ll be carrying. If I finish in 2-1/2 hours that will be about an 11.26min mi. I usually do about a 9.40 min mi but that’s with good training and no backpack. We will see6 -
Happy November friends. I have been working hard and lost nearly 30 pounds so far. I still have a long way to go but I am sticking to the plan. I had my knee repair surgery last week and it has really been rough. I am completely non weight bearing and stuck on the couch for on 2 months. I was worried About eating too much but it - turns out that the pain meds make me so sick that I can't eat. I normally weigh in once a week but will not be able to do it for at least six weeks while I am in this giant ankle- to- thigh immobilizer. I just hope that when I do weigh in I will see a big loss. I am having to go up and down my stairs on my bottom several times a day. It definitely counts as exercise. Just wanted to say hello and request support to stay the course throughout this recovery.

And Today is: Wobbly Wednesday, Stress Awareness, Day of the 💀 Dead, and Cook for Your Pet Day, among others! Enjoy!
Machka Or anyone that knows, what are the correct dimensions to size pictures for this site? I need to use Photoshop or some other app to size as iPad doesn’t do it any more, but I don’t know the correct dimensions to size them to.
Thanks!

Welcome Anita! That's rough, having to be non-weight bearing. My DSIL had an ankle fusion last year. The recovery was tedious, but she is so happy now. She's back to walking long distances.
John is cooking the dinner tonight. Hooray! It's Cauliflower Cheese. I always find myself at a loose end when I haven't got to cook. But it's very nice.
Storm not quite here yet. Tonight and tomorrow. Right now it's breezy with heavy showers. I think Terri had a lot of rain. Floods on the news.
New series of 'Shetland' starts tonight, but with a new female lead. Hope it's good.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx
Carol - Love your porch with the rocking chairs. Perfect!4 -

So... We'd been talking about getting a different vehicle for weeks, and after the heater stopped working well this weekend, I was just done. I get horribly uneasy when things start going wrong with a car, I'm just waiting for the next one to go wrong. That was the fifth thing in about six months. All minor, I might add, but it was a trend.
So... I went looking for a vehicle all by my lonesome. When I found one that I thought was the right one, I test-drove it over to Corey, who checked all the right things, then he followed me back over to the car place and we signed all the paperwork (almost 90 percent was electronic, on a desk-sized touchscreen!). And... introducing the newest member of the family in the picture below, the 2019 Nissan Kicks. Small SUV, but will hold everything I need to haul around, gets about 37MPG, and had 28,000 miles on it. I would have expected 60,000 on a four-year-old car, as that's the average, so I was pleased with that. Plus it's still under a couple of warranties and for a change we did buy the extended warranty, which made both of us happy. Five years of oil changes, among other things.
Allie - My biggest argument with a car lease is that, much like renting a house, at the end of the time you are done with the lease or rent, you have nothing. No trade-in on another vehicle means you're starting behind the eight-ball with buying a vehicle. When you do have a trade-in, you have wiggle room. I talked the guy down more than $2,000 because he could play with the value of the trade-in as well as the selling price of the car. I got into one lease, but I worried the whole time about how many miles I had left before I violated the lease, and every ding and dent. And when the lease was up, I had to give it back to them, and that was the end of it.
Kinda liking the Kicks so far... Nice to have a back-up camera that works again!

I am slap worn out... I'm going to go take a nap!

We bought the extended warranty on my car when we bought it almost three years ago- was supposed to be 7yr- got a letter saying it was about to expire- DH called and they said what we bought was a 7yr warranty but 7 yrs from the time the car was made, it was 4 yrs old when we got it(or something like that-only had 23,000miles on it I think). Dh was mad- it was in the little fine print that was not explained to us. we wouldn't have paid that much for that short of time. This dealer has been pulling stuff since we bought the car. We had to fight with them because when we would take it in for an oil change, it wasn't in their computer that we had the warranty that covered oil changes but dh had the paperwork so just showed them. Didn't think too much about it but was irritated that he had to show the paperwork each time. We took it in one time because the windshield had a defect in it(was wavy when the sun hit it just right-thought my eyes were going, even made an appointment to get them checked)
They again said we didn't have the warranty- SOMEONE there had canceled it, pocketed our cash that we had paid for the warranty. It finally was fixed but not without a hassle.
They said I needed a 100,000 check, quoted some crazy amount which was more than double the other Nissan dealer in the next town and a lot more than other Nissan dealers. We ended up just having our mechanic do it for 1/4 the price
This dealer used to be really good. We have bought 4 cars from the Nissan dealer.
won't be buying from them again.

The Cauliflower Cheese was delicious. I really enjoyed not having to cook.
Girls ready to go out with friends last night. Edie looks so cool.
Registered today for online tax return. Only because I missed the deadline for the paper form. Didn't fancy paying the fine, so it forced me into it. Massive security checks. But I've done it and I'm halfway through. Just got to look at my savings interest. And my losses. I never pay tax, and don't need to fill in a form, but I always hope I will suddenly start earning mega bucks!

Happy November ladies!
Barbie, thank you for another month!
Last night was Halloween, we quit giving out treats many years ago for two reasons. First, the place we were living, we hardly got any kids the last few years we were there. I had actually quit already because of that. When we first moved to that house, there were lots of kids in the neighborhood and we would get around 100 or so kids. When we trickled down to less than 10, I decided I was done. When we moved to this new place, we decided that because it's kind of tucked out of the way that not too many kids would be wanting to come up the dark drive to where the actual houses are, especially when they can walk around the rest of the 'hood in well lit areas with houses close together, so we never bothered here. A few people do, but I don't think they get much action. Our son and family live in the neighborhood that he grew up in and now its in the midst of redevelopment, so a lot of houses have either been torn down already or are boarded up and waiting to be torn down so I suggested he bring the kids out here. He decided that was a good idea. I went out with them and it was a lot of fun! The neighborhood has its own facebook page and there were comments before the "big day" asking about how many kids to expect. People replied 200-300! Well, I suspect they were pretty close on that! It was a lot of fun, lots of people out, not too many vehicles trying to go anywhere (whew!) and so many great decorations! I think my grands slept well last night, they were pretty pooped out!
Loving the pics of the kids, pets and cars! Keep 'em coming!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to any new folks out there! Come back often, we are happy you're here!

Barbie-- Thanks for getting us started on the new month.
Lisa--Love the color of your new car. I told DH the pickup we just brought acouple months ago and the SUV will be our last ones. See how long that lasts.
Margaret-- How scary. I know when we were on vacation last month we came apond a accident. A semi hit a SUV. It was a lady and her young teenage driver. DH stopped and went to check on them while I called 911. The 2 men in the semi got out and were walking towards the lady and her daughter until they seen DH they they went back to their truck. We stayed until EMT and Police got there. The way those men acted was strange and a part of me wounder if they drove them into the ditch for some bad reason. Anyway was glad no one was hurt and that DH stayed with them. Just can not be to careful now days.
Annie-We had a KIA Soul before we got the telliride. I liked it, but wasn't enough room to take teenage grandchildren with us to church. I do like the telliride too.
Carol--Beautiful Maple tree.
We had around 20 trick or treaters last night. It was so cold and so many trunk or treats everyday I do think the kids were just over it. Did have 5 of the grand children stop by so I could see them dressed up. Our one DGS that is 9 years old loves broccoli. So DH bougth him a bag. He was so excited.
A lot of pissed off people at work today. as this new way of paging doctors is not going over well. I just tell them yesterday was the first I knew of it and I was not in on the planning. Wonder how long before we go back to my staff doing it. Gotta love change, but it has to make sense. An ER doctor in the middle of a trauma is not going to take the time to look in the computer to find the surgeon or what ever kind of doctor he needs.

Oh lordy girls im still hemming and hawing over this car thing.. to buy,to lease..
If I buy will have to take money out of my 401k and pay taxes on that..if I lease I will have to have a monthly fee.. I would rather have if I need to buy the car outright than have a payment..
Found a 2020 HR-V with only 1,500 miles on it and it has all the bells and whistles
And a brand new one is 5,000 more plus fees..we shall see .. another sleep on it. And my car goes to the mechanic on friday to make sure everything is ok.3 -
