Morning all
Got in 10K (at 09"19 pace).
@shanaber lovely pics
@chris_in_cal get back on it Sir!! 🙌
@Zakkery86 nice to meet you mate! Welcome! If you stick around - could double our 🇬🇧 contingent to 2!
@eleanorhawkins is English too... But she's gone all Patatas Bravas on us 😜7 -
MFP newsfeed has gone all stupid today. In any browser. 🧐 So here looking at fabulous photos. That DARK grey sky and the autumn gold/red tree is magnificent @shanaber good luck with treatment on Monday and hope you are able to get some walks in this weekend. I remember having apple butter as kids. It was a treat on buttered toast for sure.
Question of the day: What is everyone's FAVORITE type of apple. I used to be a Gala (well Bandit's anyway) person and when we were kids it was MacinTosh. My Mom always made baked apples with the tart Green ones. But these days if I eat any apples it is always Honeycrisp. Texture, taste. etc.. perfect! 😍
@tarun_yadavA that's a nice speedy 10K for you today! Under an hour for sure if I can math before coffee. 😂😉😎
@chris_in_cal welcome back. So sorry you have been sick and not able to do much. Changing things up and trying different approaches sounds like a win to me! I have never been much of a yoga person as holding poses and such and balance is definitely not my wheelhouse.
So I still don't know why my heart rate is so high when I am sleeping and I have been waking with a headache also. I assume it's from the heater running. As fresh air helps. I have a CO monitor and it doesn't go off but I should probably get a basic air analysis thing. It doesn't feel too dry. What was that thing in the last 90's everyone was checking their house for Radon? Can I blame that?
@quilteryoyo I am anxious to see just how many thanksgiving dinners one person can attend... 😆😆 You are doing great getting some activity in tho. I would be a blob rolling around from one feast to the next. And CONGRATS on finding a solution for the race. I guess Tippy is going along. Make sure to double and triple check the fenceline before you let her roam.6 -
@SummerSkier 🍏
Pink Lady > Jazz > (then other end of spectrum) Grannysmith
I hate *hate* biting into an apple an it being soft and mushy on the inside5 -
@SummerSkier I eat a honey crisp apple every day. Can't really stand anything else. BUT one week the store was all out, so I tried a Cosmic Crisp. Surprisingly it was just like a honey crisp! And a bit cheaper 😁5
-
That sounds like a tough run @yirara ! I'd still be cold.
@chris_in_cal I feel your pain when you are doing all you can and the scale doesn't move. I've been there, done that and it is hard to continue. Sounds like you have reevaluated and are getting back to what makes you feel better. Mixing things up to find what works for you is great. Congrats on running before work. I'm not a morning person either, but if I can get in my workout early, it makes the rest of the day better.
Nice running at your son's @Scott6255 AND pickleball. I have yet to play that sport, but people keep saying I should and it is fun. Did you enjoy it?
@Laurz9191 Nice running and glad you got in the 10K early. Glad you found your headphones. I hate it when I misplace things, which happens all the time. I can lose things when I never leave the room. LOL
@yirara I hope you are feeling better! There's a lot of stuff going around right now.
@Zakkery86 You did great keeping up the running while away from home!
Great running @SummerSkier . I find that my HR varies a lot. I think it depends on how tired I am, how much sleep I've had, eating, etc. So many things go into it that, which I never thought about before I started running and keeping track. I gave up on the ticker too. It used to work for me, but lately it gets stuck in a refresh cycle and won't let me pick a ticker. I got tired of trying and it's weird that it doesn't do that for everyone. I wonder if it's the browser I'm using? Glad you got your electronics back up and working. That can be so frustrating.
@shanaber You did a lot of walking, even if it wasn't constant. Those skies look ominous, but pretty at the same time. Sorry that the apple butter festival wasn't all it was advertised to be. I hope your treatment goes well.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA .
I am a Granny Smith girl and agree with @tarun_yadavA about hating the texture of a soft apple. I prefer tart and crisp.
@SummerSkier If you count all of my feasts, I had four! One the first Sunday of the month as a fundraiser for my aunts church, one with my cousin in assisted living a week ago, and two this week. Surprisingly, I only gained 2 pounds since last Saturday, and I'm thinking at least part of that is water weight from having more salt than normal. Now for a week or so of leftovers, a couple of weeks of decent eating and the race, and then Christmas dinners and New Years. This time of the year is so hard to eat "right," but I just enjoy it and do better after the first of the year.

@SummerSkier - I am a honeycrisp gal too. I had never heard of or seen them before my DD moved to the PNW and I would normally go for Pink Ladies then. Now we can find honeycrisp pretty much everywhere. I love them sliced with peanut butter!
I also will only use Granny Smith for baking, apple pie, cakes, etc...7 -
I’m a honey crisp, gala, and Granny Smith kind of gal.4

OPAL when I can get it, used to love Golden Delicious, but hard to get. I always fall back on Granny Smith (due to price)3 -
@SummerSkier Honeycrisp is perfection. I also like gala, pink lady, jazz. Granny Smith is really good with caramel dip. I eat a lot of apples this time of year while they're in season.tarun_yadavA wrote: »I hate *hate* biting into an apple an it being soft and mushy on the inside
Absolutely! That grainy kinda soft texture is gross!4 -

My long run today was one of those runs that felt like I could go on for miles! One of the best parts of running this time of year is that I can sleep in, have a leisurely morning and still have beautiful weather for my run.7 -
@SummerSkier Good question! We eat lots of apples around here. Sometimes my preference is directly related to how fresh they look. My absolute favourite is a fresh Elster from the farmer’s market, which sells fresher fruit than the supermarket. I don’t think this is a US variety, but it basically tastes like a honey crisp that is slightly more tangy/sour. At the supermarket I will sometimes also go for the pink lady, as they usually aren’t soft.
We have an apple tree in front of the house, it’s what I would consider the “wild” variety- no clue what it really is, but I honestly don’t like them that much and usually the ones that get really good and ripe are visited by our ever-present wasp colony before we pick them .
@martaindale I’m glad you had such a nice run today! I love those!4 -

Fuji. I was bowled over by Honeycrisp when I first tried them and someone said Fuji's are the same but less expensive. I'd never tried a Fuji. It works for me, my love of a good apple and a good deal.
I can't believe how devoted I was to Red Delicious when I was a kid. I haven't had a good one in thirty years.6 -
Great running @martaindale . I'm glad you are having great weather and enjoying your runs so much.

I had planned on a long run today, but I didn't sleep well/much last night, so opted for a shorter driveway run today. The temperature was 58F (14.4C) and sunny, so not too bad. I actually did better than I expected that I would and could gone further, but I just wasn't really motivated. My Avg pace was 13:11 min/mile, so not too bad since I was going slow enough to keep my HR below 140, which I was pretty successful at. I did "sprint" downhill for the last tenth of a mile and managed a pace of 8:50 min/mile for that. I would love to be able to keep that pace for an entire mile. Maybe one day, if I push myself more.

@quilteryoyo great running. Yes, I very much enjoy pickleball! I don't get the chance to play often, but it is a fun, fast, and challenging game if you want it to be. Or it could be an easy, relaxing, just enough exercise to keep you moving kind of game. Depends on who you are playing with and how you want to approach it. I'm sure you would love it!5

1.65 miles today

Thanks @Scott6255 . I haven't played pickleball yet because I'm afraid it will mess up my tennis stroke. Some say it does and some say it doesn't. I know when I played racquetball it did. Maybe one day I'll try it.
Nice run today @daria0919 .5 -

I hope everyone who celebrated had a nice Thanksgiving. I ended up helping to time a Turkey Trot 5K instead of running with friends as I normally do. The race was located about an hour and 20 minute drive from my house so I had to get up very early and then rush away as soon as I could in order to get home and finish my dishes to take to mom’s for lunch. It all worked out fine. Yesterday, I did my strength workout (legs) and ran 4 miles before taking my parents shopping for a new mattress and a new recliner. That was an all day job! Today I ran with a group that I don’t normally run with and I had to push it to keep up with them. The weather was sunny and a nice 39F at the start.
@martaindale – Beautiful pictures from your camping trip and it sounds like the non-running was good rest for your legs.
Happy Belated Birthday @AlphaHowls! Sounds like you had a great day.
@Laurz9191 – Those are nice pants and I bet they would be great in the snow and rain also.
My favorite apple is Pink Lady. They remind me of the Honeycrisp but are cheaper!
