WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR DECEMBER 2023

Quickly popped out for the last few things I couldn't find yesterday. Found some single cream with a good date. Got superior lemon Pelligrino for the grandchildren, the same as they have in Fatto a Mano. It costs a fortune in there, and they're only allowed it on special occasions.
On the way I went to the Mediterranean shop to buy my frozen artichoke hearts. I adore them and use them in pizza, frittata, and pasta sauces. I buy three packs at a time, because it involves an old man getting his mini stepladder out from under a pile of boxes, climbing over assorted crates of tins, and diving deep into a chest freezer! I can't watch! He found them.
Brazil nuts, which John chops up for our muesli, are in very short supply. And expensive. We haven't been able to find any. The girl in the supermarket suggested Amazon, which hadn't occurred to me, so I've just bought two 500g packets to be delivered tomorrow! Also have a massive packet of dishwasher tablets coming tomorrow. Today we are expecting a botanical gin from Wales and a decent bourbon.
All good.
Homemade pizza tonight with green salad.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -

Getting the kids ready for their walk with their new duds. Got from goodwill, found the perfect tshirt for chispa

They look gorgeous, Pip. Chispa's T shirt is such fun!
I managed to catch the post with my card for my old yoga teacher. It won't get there for Christmas, but soon after. I think I didn't get a card last year from her, so I dropped her from my list, but I heard later from a mutual friend, that she had experienced a house fire! Her card was so chatty this year that I felt terrible I hadn't sent one. I wear her velvet dress on every cruise!
The post box is just by the flower shop, so I treated us to a lovely bunch of red alstromerias. Not expensive. I've put them on the hearth, where they look very festive, next to the LED candles.
Festive tv tonight. Relaxing.

To market, to market, to buy... well, not a fat pig, but some prosciutto-wrapped mozz will have to do. Got all my running done, and am fully prepped for the weekend and for Christmas Day.
Meant it when I said Monday is all hors-d'oeuvres, am not cooking anything big, and making the weekend easy as well. I picked up one of the $5 rotisserie chickens at Sam's this morning, and when it's cooled, will strip it and put the meat in salsa verde. Either green chicken and rice for dinner or chicken enchiladas tonight, whatever Corey's willing to fool with. For the weekend, we'll just eat and shop out of the freezer and fridge, and then Monday will be Christmas munchie-palooza. Very cocoony weekend in store.
I'll probably make the sausage balls and pigs-in-a-blanket Christmas morning. They're both super easy, and best eaten fresh. Corey wants beef smokies in barbecue sauce, and I'm fine with that, too... That is so much salt and umami that I had to do SOMEthing sweet. I want to try a cinnamon twist tree - something like this, but not nearly as pretty, I'm sure. I picked up frozen puff pastry, because I haven't gone completely doolally:Actually, it just takes puff pastry, cinnamon, sugar and butter. Then I'll probably make the cream cheese as both a glaze and a dip to use to make the branches even sweeter...
Glad to be back home with my feet up - with all the germs running around this time of year, really didn't want to be around people too much.
Later, my lovelies,
Lisa in AR8 -

Awe Pip your kids look just precious in their new tee shirts. Looking at their expressions, they seem so humanistic. They look proud, but also like, "Mom can we go now, we have things to do".💖🤗

Mommy and Miles making Christmas cookies so sweet..
Im enjoying some chocolate baileys on the rocks. Will do my pills before bed.8 -
Worked then the soup kitchen. They had their “Christmas on the Corner” but it was held at the church next door. This is when the kids can pick out a toy. Well, you should have seen the people! Bags and bags and bags, some even brought boxes! They had toys, wrapping paper, food, personal items (deodorant, soap, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, clothes detergent, toothpaste, toothbrushes and lots of other things), I was at the sock table where they could take as many pairs as they wanted (and some really took advantage), hats, they got a hot meal and the “to go” bags with a sandwich. The parking lot was completely full, there were only 2 open spaces. Even the handicapped spaces were taken.
Then went to Sams to get the salmon for tomorrow because I have a credit there and I was hoping I’d use it up (I still have $12 more on it) then to Publix for the rest of the fish. Home to peel the potatoes for tomorrow, make the breading for the fish, have breakfast.
Kylia – I’ve decided that I won’t buy gas until after the holiday. The lines are just too long. Maybe Tuesday
Better go take my walk now. Be back in a bit
Lisa – beautiful lamp. Don’t forget your pork for New Years!!!!
M – yea for being clear
Rita – beautiful rainbow. It’s funny, when we first moved to Pennsylvania (about 38 years ago) I had no idea how to pump my own gas! Now I’m a pro. I’m thinking that I’d have funge and some cookies for any kids. Just came back from my walk and thought “what’s wrong with mixed nuts?”
pip – the kids look so festive
I tell you, the most stressful part of Christmas Eve is the fact that I have to have a backup plan for everything for dinner. Jess waits until the absolute last minute. When we have Thanksgiving at her place, I do prep work in the kitchen. Here, I have to do it all. Oh, she does most of the actual cooking, but I do things like peel the potatoes in advance, I buy things not all at once, but a bit at a time. Jess waits until the last minute then the only things left are the real expensive or else they are sold out of what you want. Well...at least I can do it Need to be sure we have enough wrapping paper, tape, to/from tags (will need more for next year)
Annie – sending hugs
Allie – I bet those cookies are extra good tasting. I’m amazed at all the things Tracey does with Smiles. What’s Carmine been up to lately?

Lisa - Nice carriage light! Can't wait to see it set up and your sunroom finished. You two have made a lot of headway in what - a month? Also glad you are feeling better.
Here's a chicken photo for you. I swear if I left the kitchen door open, Gladys would walk right in. This hen is a ringer for her. If I ever redo my kitchen, I could go for those blue cabinets.
Pip - what a score at Goodwill! The kids red jackets are awesome. So cute Chispa puts herself to bed.
Margaret - sounds like you are having a very nice holiday, thank you for sharing!
Annie - good that things are calming down and people are helping your dad keep busy. I'm so glad you can get rested up.
Vickie - Enjoy your three days off. Nice Christmas break for you.
I'm invited to an early Christmas "party" tomorrow afternoon - pizza and nibbles at my friend's house. It's the only time she could get some of her family together. I puzzled over what to bring, decided on red and black grapes and blackberries. If other people bring fruit, we can save them for Christmas Day breakfast at her house with the other side of her family.
I found some new videos to watch on Britbox - I finished "Crime" a few nights ago, a Scottish detective series. Pretty intense. That Dougray Scott is a mighty fine actor! Eye candy, at least I think so, lol. Jamie Sives portrays a cocky #($*^ detective. Sives is very versatile and has also appeared in several things I've watched lately - he's in the latest season of Shetland - Ruth Calder's old boyfriend. If anyone has watched PBS, he plays a detective in Annika.
Today was 4 seconds longer. Time to look at the seed catalogs.
