My friend G isn't calling in after all. Her itching was so bad last night that she felt she had to see a doctor again this morning. She has an appointment at 11.20. The poor woman feels she is being tortured. I have a photo I will put in a spoiler. Please don't look if medical things upset you. She said it's even worse on her arms - big blisters. It's all over her body. She is still intending to drive to Eastbourne, because she wants to see a very old friend of her long deceased sister. Personally, I couldn't even consider an expedition!
Oh well.
I managed my exercises this morning and an editing session, so I'm quite pleased with myself. Plus, before I knew G wasn't coming, at 7 am I hoovered the rug in the living room, and the kitchen floor, and polished the worktops. Then I put the turkey carcase on for stock, in an old weak chicken stock that has been neglected in the freezer. The smell is amazing! Soup for lunch, plus a smoked mackerel bagel.

Good morning!
Right now I have the right amount of Christmas left out. The tree and inside lights. 😍 Those will come down New Year's Eve. Heather Thank you for the cleaning solution. My DH isn't a fan of the smell, but it did a wonderful job. Yesterday I took the Bronco to body shop, then started take down, and cleaning. It really wasn't as "dirty" as I thought, but feels much better in dining room, living room, hallway, and part of kitchen. I ran out of time and energy. Rearranged some surfaces so feels less cluttered. At least surfaces and walls are clean and carpet vacuumed. I will tackle interior surfaces slower. While I hate the idea, I may need to include DH in cleaning out the under cabinets of two hutches. 🙃 Most of that is his stuffs. They are full with stuffs we haven't used in years. I don't really want to just pack and put in attic. I want it gone. He just overthinks everything and wants to keep everything. This will take some delicate negotiations. Lol!
So for now I am happy with work done. Interior surfaces will wait for little bits at a time. It was difficult mentally yesterday doing this as I had to balance what I wanted done with helping DH in his clean up projects, cooking dinner, spending time with DH.....I tend to buckle down and become single minded when the urge hits. This is why I usually did this when he was gone on weekends. Changes are difficult.
Today I enjoyed walking into the clean and decluttered front rooms with the lights of the tree.
Back to work for a short week. Need to get laundry sorted and plants watered before hand.
Love all the pictures!
Healing thoughts for those with medical challenges.
Hugs because we all need them.

Looks like when I had measles in 2016 ... except it looks like she has done some scratching.
I was experiencing such painful itching that I couldn't wear clothes and I couldn't sit or lie down. I spent the worst night walking up and down in the living room all night long, with the temperature as cold as I could stand it. It was the only way I felt even slightly comfortable.
The next morning, I put on the smoothest clothes I could find, and not much of them (a skirt and some sort of top but no underwear) and my husband took me to an urgent care facility.
Fortunately, the doctor took one look at me and put me on a very strong antihistamine and a very strong painkiller which together knocked me out completely for about 2 days. By then, the worst was past so I was able to start cutting back a bit and spending a bit of time awake. It took several weeks for it all to fade.
Since then I haven't been able to wear anything with texture.
I feel for her and hope they can knock her out until it starts to leave her system. I hope they can find the source as well.
I seem to react to a lot more things in recent years than I used to. Penicillin is one that left me with a head to toe rash (but not like that). Just a couple months ago, I reacted badly to some sort of essential oils.

Good morning ladies!
My cousin is coming today to help us do some filing. My sister asked her to come. I'm feeling tentative. Maybe I should have read some decluttering material first. Probably I'm nervous about finding unpaid bills. My dad's papers are a mess. Mom always kept them.
We have so many cookies! Four containers. Lots to go through. Lots of stuff everywhere. Maybe I am ready to tackle a small piece. Like the lap blankets in the living room. We must have twenty.
My dad was always big on four weeks of advent followed by twelve days of Christmas. I want to take down the live wreaths that are dripping needles, but he usually waits. He might not care this year. He keeps telling me that his joy of Christmas is mixed with sadness that Mom died. Well of course. But I guess it's like my ex and his feelings - what he says is only vaguely related to how he feels. I suppose it's good that he is opening up at all.
But first - another cup of tea. The quiet won't last long.
Machka hope you feel better soon.

Heather - G's itching looks horrible. Hope they can find something to settle it down once and for all. Makes me itchy to look at it.
So nice that you got a "raise". Interest rates have finally been going back up at my local credit union since mid-summer. Hope they stay up for a while.
Annie - you've been doing a good job taking over the bill paying. Hope you don't uncover any surprises when your cousin comes over but if you do, there's another one you can track. Crossing fingers your dad will start to be more comfortable in relinquishing his hold on things you really need to be involved in.
I had planned to walk with my neighbor this morning but it looks like we'll get rained out. Which actually is good since I'd forgotten I was going to be busy in the kitchen this morning making lentil & mushroom soup which involves lots of veg chopping, sauteeing, stirring and monitoring the cooking pot.
This week, I'm doing year-end review and budget planning for next year. It's always a good for me to look at expenditures throughout the year - what did I spend on "needs" vs. "wants." I usually put Amazon items that interest me in "save for later" and go back after a few weeks to see what lured me at the time. And if it's something I need, look locally to see if stores in the community have it for the same or better price. I got a notice from Amazon this morning that several items in that "save" category had increased in price. By a lot. Luckily I didn't need or want them anymore.
Make it a good day!

Carol enjoyed the pictures of your family. The kids have really grown up.
Lisa love love love the sun room. I can just feel how wonderful it will be to sit in.
Beth thinking of you.
Vicki hope your SIL gets to go home.
Debbie I second what Machka said. Maybe carve out time for yourself away from all the drama. I have family that drags me down if I let them. Many hugs.

Annie - One thing at a time, dear heart. The most useful equipment for filing, I've found, is a shredder. There are so few things that I keep anymore that the single file box contains mostly seven years of income tax papers, and that's only because I didn't start scanning my supporting papers into the computer until five years ago. A couple more years, and I'll be able to get rid of all those, too!
Heather - I feel for your friend, as well. Hope this doctor's appointment will give her a resolution. It looks miserable. Your soup, on the other hand, sounds wonderful, I love those smells of long-simmering, deep, rich broths. Unfortunately, I don't actually like to eat soup. Or broth. I think I'm the only person who pours off all the broth from the cheap ramen noodles and just eats the noodles. Our savings interest rate skyrocketed over these last few years, as well. Not much when you look at it month by month, but over a year, more than 7 times the amount of interest gained... nice little bonus. All signs are that it's about to start going the other way here, as well, but it's been fun while it lasted.
Machka - It sounds as if you're beginning to turn the corner and feel better. Glad you've got lots of time off to recover.
Didn't decorate for Christmas this year, other than being unable to resist buying a $4 poinsettia from Aldi, but even in the days when I did, I either put it all away the day after or sometimes even Christmas night. 🤷🏻 I like clean breaks from most things, I think. Being sick the last few years has taught me the ability to conserve my energy for the things that matter most--the people. Holidays in general just don't land high on the priority list. Sure have enjoyed watching y'all's holiday magics, though.
Egg is doing her best to wake Corey by meowing outside the door and shaking it with her paws and claws, and I'm just evil enough to let her. Not like I could stop her anyway, she's a pretty determined little soul. Yep, it worked, he's up. Time for me to get moving now... My acupuncture appointment's at 1 p.m. Got all the laundry caught up yesterday, since I couldn't get more than 10 feet from the bathroom all day, and would like to get floors done this morning. It has started out 15 degrees warmer today, too, which is most appreciated. Really need to get some firewood gathered... Might have to wait until tomorrow though.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in the chilly, but not freezing, Arkansas River Valley, where the sun is just pinkening the low-lying wisps of clouds on the horizon.

Morning ladies
Watching the Today show..
Going to have some Christmas tea i ordered it from Amazon.
Alfie is under the covers..
My friends are up visiting from N..C.and the stomach bug is running through the family so staying away.3 -
G got in to see the doctor. They have sent photos to the dermatologist. Convinced now it's not scabies. She has been given new creams. She is still setting off to Eastbourne for a couple of nights.
My son rang me in response to my text asking how he was. He said he is feeling much better and actually did some exercise this morning. First since covid. As the kids are at the other grandparents, they are going shopping this afternoon. Don't know what for.
Apparently the girls can hardly be wrenched out of their skates. Poor granny! She has to stand out in the road with them. Christmas Day, Edie was out on the patio in the dark!
My son wanted to know if we could have any of them over the weekend. I volunteered for Saturday, 10.30 - 2. Just the girls, as Max has friends over. Bea is going to a friend at 2.30.
On Sunday, New Year's Eve, he asked us to join them all for early dinner at The Regency, followed by sticky toffee pudding at their house. John doesn't like the pudding, but he is happy. I think my son was angling for a bit more minding on Sunday, but I decided that was enough!
We both have new ceramic palettes for our acrylics, as Father Christmas gave us one each! What a coincidence! I'm sure the girls will be envious. Santa also bought me an instruction book for acrylics. And the kids bought us canvases, so we are all set.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
Beth, hugs and more hugs and prayers as well. I’m glad your mother seems a little better.
Allie, I know a few people who have lost week successfully with an Ozempic type shot and at least one who could not tolerate the nausea. My nutritionist advises against it unless it is medically necessary, particularly because of the loss of muscle mass as someone else mentioned. He also said that the potential for gaining the weight back once the medication stops is extremely high. My take is that it is like any other medical intervention to help with weight loss: do your research and proceed with caution. Sometimes it is necessary, but don’t think it is an easy fix or without it’s issues.
Lanette , your research was interesting to read and reminded me of an incident that happened in the grocery store parking lot a few months back. As I was getting out of my car to go into the store, I witnessed a man go down beside his truck. He was obviously disabled in some way with mobility issues, anyway. I rushed to help him as did a young man. We helped him get his groceries into the truck and to get himself back on his feet. At that point the young man left. I stayed until this man was safely in his truck and ready to drive away.
Debbie, I especially like Machka’s idea for your Christmas next year. And don’t tell anybody where you’re going!
Michelle, I have similar benign moles all over my back. Your one is bleeding because your bra has irritated it and worked it loose from your body in a spot. Just put a bandaid over it to cushion it from your bra, and you will be fine until February. It’s a nuisance more than anything. I had one at my waistline that did that back in the fall.
Heather, your friend’s skin looks very painful. Did you say what her diagnosis is? I’m with Machka on that one, too. Give me something to knock me out until it gets better.

Annie ... this comment of Lisa's ... The most useful equipment for filing, I've found, is a shredder. Couldn't be truer. When is your Mom's funeral? I seemed to have missed that in my reading. There are so many details in these first few days of loss. I feel badly for your father ... confusion and grief are a difficult combination.
Christmas Decorations ... I put mine up the first week of December (not as much as I used to) and will keep them up through the 12 days of Christmas. January 2nd they will come down fast!!
Lisa ... YOUR sunroom is looking great!
Lanette ... this is when I start gathering financial information as well ... setting new budget/savings goals and getting ready for tax season. I stay very organized through the year as I'm a micromanager (aka scrooge minded) with our finances.
Today it is dark and rainy. I expect my mother will be down when I visit. Yesterday she showed me a gauze bandage on her hand. Apparently they ran labs. Something they usually do when you're admitted to rehab, but my mom "refused" them then. They're just to determine a baseline and hers were all perfectly normal. I was told by both the nurses station and my mom that she literally screamed in pain the whole time they took blood and then started crying so they sent an aide to sit with her for a while to console her. Have I mentioned that my mother can be dramatic? Sigh.

As part of my Christmas letter I mad fun of myself for leaving Christmas decorations up until Groundhogs day (Feb 2nd). They will be coming down earlier this year because I started putting them up earlier. I do like to leave outside lights until the end of January because it get dark so early here. It is around 4:30 for at least a couple more weeks.
(((Debbie)))
Down another pound cutting out wheat and most other grains. I have upped my veggies and now rather than a glass of OJ I peel and eat an orange. I am also eating less meat. Most lunches now are a big salad.
My lab numbers and my waist measurement tell me I have metabolic syndrome. My health care provider was not as concerned as me. No big health problems from this but I have decided it's best to change my habits before I start having more serious issues!
I did find a vitamin source I want to try to for a multi, Vit C and Vit D to. I am taking milk thistle and dandelion to support my liver as I change my eating habits. My waist measurement is a clue to me my liver has been on overload. I am surprised this measurement is not taken as part of a routine physical. My gut is showing signs of improvement. I was starting to have gut issues too. Again no there was no discussion at physical about this. Think bathroom habits which I will spare you the details on this one.
I am now reading a book "Total Recovery" by Dr. Gary Kaplan...I wish all doctors were like him. Rather than prescribing a bunch of meds which are band-aids at best he digs to find the root cause of the symptoms presented. He then takes a multifaceted approach towards improving the person's health. The person's diet is one of the cornerstones.
Allie rather than looking towards another pill for weight loss look at your current way of eating. What are you doing right like expanding on eating more veggies, drinking more water. Look at the foods that are causing inflammation think sugar and refined grains and meat then try to cut back portions. Just brought to my attention from another source slowing down your eating. Chew your food well. I am working on that one too!
I agree with others adding another pharma drug adds even more pressure on your liver and more side effects.

Michelle, I used to give out coal to my kids too, but it was candy! I found some candy coal and gave each child some in their sock. I was very quickly sorry I did that! Have you ever had to clean children’s faces that were stained black? I had red before and blue from different candies, but black was the worst! Never bought that again, even though my kids thought it was great fun! 🤩

Kylia: You were really kind to send me Heather's cleaning solution. I really need to use it.
Lisa: The sun room looks amazing. I like knotty wood and it looks like you have a door for Egg.
Lanette and Beth: Inspiring to get your 2024 plans in motion.
Margaret: Had to look up metabolic syndrome. Everything about me is flabby and fits some of the signs. Hoping if I ever get my bad knee replaced I can get more exercise.
Heather: Hope your friend does not have scabies as I read it is caused by skin to skin contact from others you have been close to. If it was that, I would be scared to be around her.
Beth and Annie: Hugs!

Hi all - late to the game, as December is nearly over, but I’ll be checking in for a January group! I’m Kristen in Ontario, Canada. I’ve been on and off MyFitnessPal for years, and I’m back again. I’ve had some issues with my feet that have made it hard to get steps in, but I have newly fitted orthotics & hoping to get back into some healthier habits.8

Debbie the family drama is why I live so far from family. It got to me making me have panic attacks along with depression so bad that I kept losing jobs. Moving to TN then to the RV were the best things I did for my health. I’m so sorry you have to go through all that with your family. Maybe you need to take a vacation away for a couple of weeks, just you to relax. Tell me again WHY your DH has to go there twice a day? It seems to just make things worse for everyone. Can he not just go once a day and taper that off as well? I know culture plays a big part in this, and can be very hard to deal with.

Today is make snowflakes day! I have a pattern that I used when I was substitute teaching 3rd graders. Think I will make some for January decorations this year! I’ll post a picture of them when/if I make them. I need to go for bloodwork today before my January appointment with the renal doc.

Debbie: Seems like you are in a No Win situation with your own family and with your husband's. Thank goodness you have your son and his girlfriend, your exercise classes, your church, and the wetlands to bring some stability to your life.

I tried a new recipe this evening with cauliflower, crême fraiche, and Parmesan, mashed into a purée, and finished with sage brown butter. Absolutely heavenly!
I topped it with left over bacon rashers and fried eggs.
We both loved it.
Stewed apricots for dessert.
G has arrived at her seafront hotel in Eastbourne and says the itching is less tormenting. The doctor was mentioning an auto immune reaction. She already has RA flareups. Not scabies.
I hope she can get some sleep and enjoy the break from her flat. This has been getting worse over weeks/months.
Looking forward to a new Agatha Christie murder tonight.
