((Margaret)) You are doing a wonderful job advocating.
Tracey: LOVE the framed jewel art. You are an amazing crafter, mom and grandma. Noah nailed description of Hallmark movies.
Allie: Siri so Cute!
Heather: I want to come paint with you and DH. I love that design that looks like a school of fish.
Thank you for sharing your holiday stories and pictures. I spent the entire Christmas Day with the Denver Nuggets. I check credentials of individuals accessing the Family Room, which was full to the brim with the family and friends of players and team staff. Some of the families always show up looking gorgeous, and on Christmas morning, these same folks were really dazzling. Many families posed for photos the hallway under the giant photos of the team members. The arena management stocked the break room with breakfast sandwiches, free coffee, fruit and treats. I grabbed two lovely pears and a commemorative pewter ornament that says thank you from the team. It was a long day, but one I will remember for how blessed I felt to be part of it.
Since then, I am staying busy listening to the library's audio copy of Barbra Streisand's autobiography, "My Name is Barbra". It is 48 hours long and entirely read by her, punctuated with bits of music and movie dialogue. I listen to the book, then switch to albums. I can do these activities in the morning while in the gym or puttering in the house. In the evening I pull up a Streisand movie and devour it relishing all the juicy insider tidbits I just learned. I'm finding myself inspired by this remarkably talented and accomplished woman. She was really ahead of her time as a performer, singer, actress and director.
My gentleman friend is going to be with his father in Florida for next 8 weeks, and the basketball team is going on a long road trip, so I am going to take the opportunity to take a trip to visit the west coast. My California Dreaming tour is going to start on Jan 19th in San Diego and wrap up on the 25th in Burbank. I have family and old friends up and down the coast, so today I made some progress penciling in dates for meet ups. Stay tuned!
Congratulations to all of us for forging even closer friendships on this thread. I'm humbled and grateful to share in the love and support. May you feel my hugs wrapping around you. My word for 2024 isn't set yet, but it will include the words "Stretch and Habits". My mottos as ever remains "We Can Do This" Happy New Year, Friends.

About Exercise ... agree with Barbie above.
I love my sit-stand desk at work as it allows me to stand for a portion of the day, which is better than sitting all day. At home, I try to get up and move periodically throughout the evening - usually to tidy something.
Sitting (or lying down) all the time is not good for the body. I reminded myself of that many times during this COVID thing. Lying down was only going to increase my chances of getting pneumonia. Yes, I laid down for about half the day, but then I tried to sit up straight, and better ... to walk around the house and yard.
About Tea ... I have thought about getting the loose leaves. There's a nice place near where I work that sells the loose tea, but they are expensive. I might have to look more. I have a couple tea balls and a strainer.
About Vitamin D ... here in Tassie, because it's cold enough most of the year that people tend to wear long sleeves, Vitamin D levels tend to be low. So I take a Vitamin D every day.
The recommendation here is: Adults aged 51-70 years should have 10μg of Vitamin D per day. We take a 1,000 IU supplement which is 25μg.
Keep in mind that there are definitely some serious issues with taking too much Vitamin D. It is not a case of "if some is good, more must be better".
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/vitamin-d-side-effects
"Most cases of vitamin D toxicity are caused by inappropriate supplement dosing and prescription errors.
For example, in a 2020 case report, a 73-year-old man developed vitamin D toxicity after taking 10,000 IU of vitamin D per day for many years"

DD has been off all this week and I am really glad. Our renter told us on Christmas eve that she had been having water problems in the cabin for 3 days andthe toilet had backed up. We worked on it to no avail and then called plumber. He said probably a septic problem and we would need to have the tank pumped out. This is a very old system and we had no idea where the lid was. Spent Thursday finding that with the help of neighbors. Septic company can't come until Tuesday Jan 2 so renter is currently using our guest bathroom which luckily is just inside our front door. So now yesterday the deadbolt on the front door will sometimes not open with the key. I for one am ready to end this year.

I tell you, I absolutely hated this going in late stuff. Assuming they don’t order enough next Sat., I’m going to say that early in the afternoon we’re going to see our daughter in Cary. They know that there wasn’t enough product today, and failure on their part doesn’t constitute emergency on my part. I understand that they were out of french fries, too. Oh well...not my business (thankfully)
Ginny – I never knew that tea bags had all that “stuff” in them. Thanks for informing me.
Ken & Lynette aren’t coming here tomorrow. Lynette called while I was at BK and said they were sick. Who knows? Vince and I will eat the pork chops
Allie – Siri is so adorable. I must say, cats are easier to take care of than dogs. You don’t have to take a cat for a walk. Then again, cats are very finickey
I made an apple crisp for tomorrow, guess I’ll just freeze it. I don’t know how it freezes...guess we’ll find out
Tracey – breathtaking trees
Rita – big congrats on the alcohol free.
Debbie – time to get out the tea and honey!
Rori – Always love when you pop in. Your life is so awesome. Great holiday
Off to beddybye.
Michele NC6 -
Changed the sheets, washed them and they are hanging on the line in the sunshine and breeze.
I know I am starting to feel better when I start cleaning everything after being sick.
Plus it will be nice to start the new year with fresh bedding.

Pay attention, Barbara! If three of the bags of organic mandarins at Freddie’s are moldy, even though you find a bag with no obvious mold, take a pass. Got the bag home and a third of the mandarins were soft and fermenting. Gah.
Welcome back @Ruralshutterbug Alison in Oz!
Ginny imho attached garage is a MUST Glad to hear all’s on schedule. Bravissima for the walk and stretching. NOT thinking about microplastics and heavy metals in my tea bags. Just NOT. ;{
Machka thanks for the “genetic mutation Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) (C677T)” info. My potty mouth mind thinks that mutation is a real MTHFR Checked my labs, no test of homocysteine levels . . . Getting Medicare to pay for DNA testing for this or the breast cancer gene might be a challenge.
Barbie “…you get to decide which 12 hours…” Thanks for the anti obesity drugs info. Here’s one on strength training in 1 minute five times a day with your own body weight.
Annie ((hugs)). Long out breaths… you know your body will remember to breathe in for you.
Heather the watery messy fun art, and John’s beautiful design. How did Edie set one on fire?
Kelly what’s going on with your foot?
Margaret thankful for the good news about your legs.
Lisa your description of Corey’s reaction to your “do the cuts” offer made me snort my water. Naughty gal. Look forward to seeing pics of your flooring choice.
Beth glad for your mom’s fighting spirit and excellent therapy session, sorry for the therapist/aide messup.
Rosemarie “I didn't sit during the football game. I did walking videos and lifted some weights. I am pretty pleased with this!” As well you should be. VERY well done!
Rita 5 months sober? VERY well done!!!
Allie if I haven’t said it lately, thank you so much for the sMiles pics. The New Years one made me snort my water, AGAIN. Your love for Siri shines through that pic. How do she and Alfie get along?
Michele “Bob Harper” now there’s a name to conjure with. What is it with BK? Last time (and it WILL be the last time) I went into the one here, they were out of: coffee, orange juice and syrup for the French toast sticks.
Pip that Chispas is one lucky pooch! Didn’t see extra credit in your stats for carrying that 15 lbs tho’ …
Tracey those Grandma’s wedding dress, jewelry trees are gorgeous. You are a gifted, creative gal. I have a great deal of respect for you!
Rori hope you can feel my hugs whooshing over to you. Say hello to SoCal for me, and safe travels!
Sue septic troubles, oh no! That reminds me we haven’t had ours pumped out for five years, time to schedule.
OK, so I lied. Thanks to Ginny and Margaret at least THOUGHT about microplastics in my tea bags. Thankful my daily Good Earth tea’s website says they “avoid plastics.“ E-mailed Celestial Seasonings and Bigelow asking if they do, or would do likewise. . .12/30: Move: ZERO sets PT , dog group. Rori-your part time job brings you many interesting adventures! Envious of your California coast tour. I lived in San Diego area years ago when in high school. Went back to area a few years ago for work-changed tremendously but still beautiful.
Machka-We have to be careful with all medicines/supplements to not overdo. Just like with food-moderation works well.
Michelle-I know that Covid and other things are rampant around here. Several people at work have Covid, several others have had RSV and the flu. I prefer if people are sick with anything they stay home!
Off to start my last day of 2023-hard to believe another year is gone.

Had a wakeful night. Then slept for half an hour over my usual time. Bit of ache. Exercises has mostly got rid of it. I always get backache after the kids. I think it's because I'm bending over a lot. But I got a lot of loosening up yoga done.
Then I decided to do my roots ahead of my hair trim on Wednesday. I bought the cheaper root 'touch up' packet, which really is enough, so that got done quite quickly and easily. No wastage. Still got to blow dry it, but the colour is fine.
Then I went onto the Waitrose website and ordered a delivery for Tuesday. The girls will be here that morning and over lunch, as it's a teacher training day, and Max will come for lunch if he wants. I've booked the delivery for just after they've left, but it doesn't matter if there's an overrun.
I might do a bit of painting this afternoon, as we left the art stuff out. I'll see how I get on with the painting of Edie.
This evening we have dinner at The Regency with the family. My son is going to let me know if he can pick us up, but if not, I might get an Uber. It's windy and wet out there. He will take us up to theirs for pudding, and bring us back. I'm going to offer to split the bill. It's not cheap! And I will present them with the teatowel I had printed, as a house renovation/warming gift.
Tricolore for lunch.

My friend G has been searching Dr Google, and now thinks it may be Bullous Pemphigoid. On my quick reading, it looks a definite possibility. She had an autoimmune flareup of her knee joint early this year.
This getting old stuff is not for wimps.

Lots of Vit D today ... out in the sunshine.
Fresh bedding ... new bottom sheets and freshly washed top sheets and pillowcases which spent the afternoon wafting in the sunshine.
Finished reading a book to reach 24 books in 2023.
Added up the kilometres this month. I had hoped to do a lot more but then COVID waltzed into our lives.

Good morning ladies!
Well the adventure continues. I thought I had the reception mostly planned out, but the restaurant called to say they were going out of business. He said he would tear up my deposit check and send me a picture of it, but he didn't. So I guess I have to stop payment on the check. It's actually my father's check.
The lady who is doing the flowers suggested another place, so I'm going there this afternoon. Seems more expensive.
My sister wrote an obituary and shared it on Google docs. I have to figure out how to access
it.
My dad was crying last night. I don't have a lot of patience for that. He had 67 good years of marriage, I only had 20. She died at 91, which is a good long life, and she was healthy until the last three months. We will miss her, but her death wasn't a tragedy. In fact it could have been a lot worse in terms of pain and anxiety and nursing. But I keep my mouth shut and come here to vent.
He deserves his time to grieve but it makes me feel guilty that I don't have the patience for consoling him. There's not much anyone could do, I guess.
My cousin is helping me work on his finances. They are a mess. She is wonderful, very organized and she doesn't get overwhelmed by emotion like I do. We are still hoping to find some life insurance to pay for the cremation.
So ever onward. I'm hoping to be able to dye my roots over this holiday. Maybe Monday.
Thank you all again for being in my pocket through all of this. You give me the strength to keep tackling the challenges every day.
Have a great day!

Just popping in - getting a few chores done and want to make an early trip to the grocery to grab a few things, so more later and will catch up with you gals.
A little more on Vitamin D :
Here are a couple studies about higher levels of Vitamin D. Supplementation doesn't necessarily equal adequate blood levels: 2,000 IU might be too little for one person while it may shoot another person into a higher range. There are many factors that influence this including age, and other medical condititions. That's why I pay the $$ to get mine tested every year or two and my medical providers have the time to assess everything in my lab reports to see if something is off-balance. (Thankfully, Dr. Lisa gets a discounted price on the D3 test.)
Vitamin D - research shows suggested levels from 40 to 60 ng/mL are expected to reduce case-fatality rates of patients who have breast, colorectal, or prostate cancer by half. : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19523595/
Vitamin D - 7 year study assessing safety risk of higher Vitamin D3 intake: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30611908/

I love patterns in numbers!
Woke up early and am enjoying the serenity of the tree lights for the last time until next year. 😌 DH still snoozing.
Last night we watched storage wars, my cousin Vinnie (I love her), and Animal House (my first time). I worked on cross-stitch and got up every half hour to move. Was relaxing. Finished up my tracking hours for the year. I have been tracking my SIL'S and my working hours since 2014. I got tired of hearing that I wasn't working enough, so started tracking. Only in 2022 did I start tracking working hours that SIL wasn't there. She likes to go in at 6 am, we are open 9-530 Monday-Friday and 9-2 on Saturday. So yes, we get Sundays off. It seems petty but gives me peace. It is interesting to look back and compare hours with sales. I also have to track units sold for ordering. Crazy busy years I have had as many as 362 extra hours outside of work and on low sale years the lowest was actually a true 66 hours missed 🙃. Oh, that is the year we went to the Dominican! No work done on that vacation. Like I said I love number patterns. The awareness of extra hours does help me be more focused during work hours most days.
Rori You are a great example of grabbing life by the horns and taking control! I want to be like you when I grow up. I love hearing about your adventures and travels.
Rosemarie I too love that you are making changes for yourself and honoring your DH at the same time.
Rori Congratulations on alcohol free! That is a wonderful milestone!
Lisa I am excited to see the finished product. I am like your DH. It is easier in my mind to do it by myself. I have to make an effort to do things with my DH like projects or even shopping. I do enjoy spending time with him, but we think so differently that sometimes it is hard!
Debbie I am happy to hear you had some "good" time with your DH. I hope you nip this illness in the bud.
Ginny I have a friend whose daughter didn't come over for Christmas because she was suppose to go on a cruise for the new year. The daughter and her husband both have RSV. I reckon a blessing in disguise that they didn't get together. There is certainly a lot going around. I know our weather isn't helping. It is hard to decide how to dress for the day!
Machka HAPPY NEW YEAR! You are our first to enter into it.
Allie Siri is beautiful. My DH said I could get a cat. I do know that some don't aggrevate allergies. One of these days......
Tracey Love how creative you are! Such a wonderful tribute to your grandmother and mom.
As we head into the New Year's, My hope for you all is peace, health, and activity. I am appreciative for the things you all bring into my life. Thank you for sharing and being you!
Much love,

Fireworks are getting set to go off. We're watching the coverage in Sydney, but will likely hear the distant "boom" of the fireworks here.
There it goes! Fireworks off the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Welcome to 2024!

Annie I get it. Just being there with your dad is helping. It has to be hard on him especially since they had been together so long. This doesn't diminish your own losses in any way. It is just coming from a different place. You are right in the fact that your mom lived a great life and didn't spend years incapacitated by illness. This helps you, but dad isn't there yet. Just keep breathing and venting to us. I am glad that you are getting help from family. Hugs!
Machka Your stats are still amazing!
I should walk some before DH gets up. Then the plans today include cleaning the bedrooms, taking down the trees, and going to a friend's house at 530. Really not planning on being there until midnight. Will most likely come home, have a drink or two, and watch movies until the new year.
Oh, I had been giving DH probiotics most of the year. He asked if they were doing anything, so I stopped them last month. He just asked me to put them back in his containers as he noticed a difference in his digestion.
Speaking of DH he is stirring.
Health, happiness, and laughter!
