Starting my 5th good day. Did walk with Leslie for 10min. not much but better than nothing. I have to get my sewing machine working tension giving me problems. I have a quilt i want finished last year lol. Well going on with my day didn't take notes did a lot of reading for those of you under the weather get well quick. For those of you like me trying to lose weight. We have this keep at it.

Jake just reminded me that our public library is exceptional and not everyone may have all the services we have. I guess I am spoiled by access to Hoopla for music and audio books along with Libby for ebooks and audio books and magazines and the library itself for books. I could entertain myself forever with all the books of my choice without paying a cent.

Annie, the puppy, didn't eat the stuffing in her bed, she just enjoyed chewing through the fabric and pulling our the fuzzy stuffing. One of the things about getting a mixed breed puppy with no clear breeding history is that there are all sorts of surprises. We love her a lot even with the goofy chewing.

Weather getting colder here, but nothing like Ohio or Northern Alberta. No snow or freezing temps yet. I am enjoying the "balmy" weather.

Happy Sunday all:

Again been doing odds and ends. Got some stuff done for work. Discovered something I was mistaken on that I need to offer apology for-will do tomorrow.

Using new cookware for first time-making soup in dutch oven. The instructions had me clean them with rubbing alcohol and then wash with dish soap before using. I had forgotten about that as cleaner for stainless (and other surfaces).

Kylia-sinus pressure bad for our area right now. I took a decongestant this morning and that has helped my head a lot.

Haven't walked outside yet today. Have had snow off and on this morning it is different from yesterday with some iciness mixed in. May go out a bit later or just hit the treadmill for a bit.

My sweet eldest sister called in a bit of a state yesterday. Earlier in the week a friend of hers passed. They met years ago at a company where everyone knew her 2nd husband, (the one that passed a year and a half ago). She just couldn't attend with all the explaining she would have to do. Totally understandable. So instead she decides to paint me a picture, and she called to show me it. I bawled. I told her that she was managing so well! She replied, "I don't know about that". I said that she took her grief for her friend and created something beautiful. We cried, because I explained that the picture to me isn't just of things of our grandma (Mimi) but of how much she's grown. Mimi helped her express her feelings in a way so positive. The picture is of a lipstick (she could apply it like nobody's business), a card (because we always played gin rummy at her home), earrings (because she never left her home without a pair), lemons and a cross (because she always passed out lemon drops before the sermon, always). Stern religion always went down better with a sweet. Finally Multnomah race track, (because she was born on lucky numbers). I cried again when I told her to please paint a cross by the lemon drops because it needed to be there. Me and my non religious self said that. Surprised even little old me.💖.

Made some homemade chicken stock yesterday, husband had a big mug full. Always makes me feel good when he does that. Lots of cayenne pepper and turmeric in it.😁👍🏼 Plus a hefty spoonful of bacon drippings. I made a huge pot full so don't freak out!

I had a piece of leftover french toast in the morning, chicken for lunchtime, and 2 molasses cookies with three marshmallows baked in the middle like a whoopie pie. Pretty much ended eating at 3 pm but did have a coffee fixing husband's dinner. I will be really hungry by lunchtime today. Making some potatoes, onion, sausage and cabbage thing, with some of my chicken stock. It will be delicious!

The first 2 pictures are Miles and Daddy making a snowman,and Miles shoveling snow..lol and 3rd picture is snow out my bedroom window.
Went and got my mattress topper back out ,and doing a load of laundry,did the dishes last night.

We so enjoyed our Masala peas and monkfish tonight.

I feel so blessed that I am able to create such delicious food. I usually do the prep after lunch, as I don't feel like a major cook up in the evening.

Don't mind finishing dishes off.
I have had a lifetime of being obsessed by food. It is paying off now, as I can put together something really healthy and nourishing without having to think about it too much. We rarely eat ultra processed food and only eat sugar after dinner for a tiny tastebud treat. It is now really easy with favourite dishes on rotation. I'm happy though to add another one to our favourites.

Evidence now shows that ultra processed food is the biggest culprit in weight gain and ill health. This includes factory made bread and anything in wrapping with names on it we wouldn't find in our kitchen. Of course, occasionally something sneaks in, but we try to cook and eat from scratch most of the time.

I don't have to go to work, nor do I now have children to feed. But we can all make small changes. We don't have to be perfect to make progress. Doing something is always better than doing nothing.

Rita - I read that having coffee prior to "fasting" morning glucose readings can make it rise. In some folks, not necessarily all. I have the Reli-on glucose test kit I got at Walmart and sometimes check readings an hour or two after eating. They have always been well within range. So I think over all things are working pretty well despite my over 100 fasting readings at the doc's office.

Carol - sorry so much chaos at your house this past week. Hope your hospitalized BIL does OK.

With this new Windows 11, I see there's an MSN weather forecast appearing on the left side of the task bar at the bottom of this screen. It's pretty accurate. I like it.

I think the old one had similar but there were so many apps in that taskbar it got lost.

And another blessing in disguise with this laptop not being able to load my old "profile".... instant decluttering! No more scads of bookmarks and stuff to wade through. Here's a chance for me to keep things tidy in this machine. I like it.

My daughter that has been trying so hard to have a baby told me tonight that one of their friends is starting a go fund me to help for their next IVF round. I’m so glad they are allowing this, it will help them to try again sooner. It takes a long time to save the amount of money they need for this. She estimates that they have already spent 30K over the last two years. They have done that, finished school that they didn’t take loans for and bought a house in the last 5 years and they have not asked for help from anyone as a matter of fact they helped others as well. They make me so proud.

It is called "Bluey" very cute-they live in Australia so their comments are different than I am used to . A few I have had to look up.
Love how the parents(they are all dogs) are very hands on with the two kids, especially the dad.

Heather, I am listening to Dr. Chatterjee's podcast about Ultra Processed Foods. I have the book on hold at the library so I can read it. It reminds me of a book I read a few years ago called "Salt, Sugar, Fat" about how the food manufacturers create products with the right amounts of salt, sugar, and fat to make you crave more. Great lessons for all of us.

I walked with my Sunday walking friend who is headed off for a six week trip soon. She's going to Texas, Oklahoma, and Hawaii and driving back from Texas with a friend along a route to see sights that look like fun. I mentioned Wall Drug in South Dakota and when I told Jake about it, he said he wished we could go back, so I found a YouTube video and we got a tour from our own couch.

We're headed out now to buy a new dog bed with an indestructible fabric.

Did Denise Austin’s Power Zone DVD then took a walk around the neighborhood. Then went to Aldi and home for breakfast and then helped Vince bring in most of the rest of the Christmas decorations. Then did the wind ever pick up!!!

Tracey – it sure is amazing the people you meet!

Annie – the story about the strangers coming to your house for Thanksgiving reminds me of the saying “guest in the home is God in the home” (apologies if anyone finds this offensive)

When Jess came here she bought these articles of clothing for me to sew. Honestly, if it were me, I’d just buy new clothes. It’s not that much. And you know how much of a cheapskate I can be.

Aldi had spaghetti squash on sale so I’m making that in the IP right now. Have yogurt in the other IP. I put it on before I went to help Vince then when we came in for lunch I noticed it said “off”. I realized what must have happened is that I didn’t push the “yogurt” button hard enough. So now it’ll be done around 10. Then I’ll let it drip overnight

Carol – I’m so very sorry to read about your BIL

kylia – you should see the condition of the break room at BK when I go in in the morning. Drinks spilled and not cleaned up, food wrappers, half eaten sandwiches, drink, just to name a few. How difficult is it to clean up after yourself before you leave? When you spill your drink, how difficult is it to take a paper towel and wipe it up?

Barbie – I have Hoopla and Libby, too. But I do find that they don’t have all that many ebooks. I also have them not only from NC but also from FL. It’s interesting, if there is a book anywhere in NC, I have access to it. However, in FL I only have access to books in that county. Different states…..

Carol-sorry to hear about BIL. While it is difficult to do, we must remember that chaos around us does not have to be within us. I find exercise and meditation can help. I have gotten back to meditation using my Iphone. I have a free trial of Apple fitness and I have been listening to one each night before bed. Even if I watch a bit of tv afterwards, I find myself going to sleep quickly and have been resting better.

Got a two mile walk in. Have nearly 13,000 steps for the day. Back to clearing up some files.

Carol- sorry you are dealing with chaos there. I am so tired of it here.

Still dealing with asthma/breathing issues- been just over a week. Still doing nebulizer treatments. Skipped church again today. Was not feeling up to going and worrying about coughing attacks. Watched online while I drank a few cups of hot tea. Another treatment in half an hour. I will use the extra energy the Albuterol gives me after the treatment to get dinner put together- chicken encheladas

Taking the Christmas tree down today- not a lot of other decorations inside to take down. Didn't feel like putting much up this year. Usually the place is FULL of them.

Back tracking my food and will be back walking and Zumba twice a week(last two weeks we only had class once a week and Ezie was on winter break so no walking the wetlands).
I will go to class tomorrow and just take it a bit easier than usual. I know getting up and moving is good for me- getting out in the cold air isn't so I wear my mask to and from the class.

MIL hasn't been terrible this past week so dh is a bit better. Pray it will last for another week or so. Dealing with both of them is exhausting and worse when I am not feeling good.

Time for more tea. Lost count how many cups I have had today. I drink tea all day/evening anyways, just a bit more today

Went to church and listened to a daughter mother duet of Let There be Peace on Earth...It was phenomenal!

When I took DH to get his hair cut I learned the history of Baldinger Bakery that has a plant I pass on the way to my son's house. The man getting his hair cut before my DH was one of the family members who own the bakery. Back in the 50's a family member was visiting a friend when the the friend told the person who was visiting him that this friend was a great baker you could rely onto meet whatever your needs are for hamburger buns. Turns out the man was Ray Kroc who at that time had two MacDonald's to his name. Because of his reputation he got the contract for making hamburger buns for MacDonalds's. My take away is you never know where an opportunity might lead especially when others can count on you.

Fast food is off the table for the way I am eating now. Still I find the story interesting especially since I drive by the bakery whenever I go over to our son's house.

I have tweeted my mantra again...Create health by accumulating healthy habits ...to discourage disease.

Margaret: Your story of Ray Kroc was interesting. When the founder or Chic Filet restaurants was building up his chain, he and his family visited my Father's cat fish restaurant and I am pretty sure he got his idea for the cold slaw they were served from that visit. We could make a meal out of my Father's cole slaw.

Ginny: Thank for your idea on meditation. I do not meditate but I do rely heavily on my daily Bible readings and they have changed the person I am.
