I agree @daria0919 it's really refreshing to read about all these stories and I think being active and being here are the key to a lot of the successes. thank you all for sharing and it is inspiring.

Running may not be for everyone but based on the folks here I would say it is a miracle drug. 😍😍

Weather has been pretty gloomy the last fews days so I did a few walks just to keep limber. Supposed to be nice the next few days so hope to be rested and motivated to get a few runs in before rain again on Monday. We are in countdown phase now to the eclipse total here on the 8th and people are already panicking. So funny. Anyway, I gots my glasses so I am good. Also my generator and my 45 cal if I need that too. 😆😆😆

you can laugh but if you ONLY knew the texas power grid you would know the fear is real...😳🙃

There was rain in the forecast for this morning. I was thinking if it wasn't stormy I might go for a short run.But the rain was stopping about the time I got up,so I was able to run 6 miles. It was a good run.

This is my before and after - not as dramatic as some but the difference in fitness between these two pics is phenomenal. On the left, me running my first half back in 2010, aged 36. I was around 75kg and it took me 1:58. The photo on the right was taken in 2020, at 46. I’m about 62kg here and ran that half in 1:44.

Three and a half years on I’m a couple of kilos heavier and a bit slower - priories have shifted and I’ve not been training as intensely (I no longer have a coach making me do speed work or 50km a week). But I’m back on the band wagon - I loved being 62kg and am almost there again. I loved being fast, but I have quite a bit more work to do on that front. Watch this space.

For me, my weight loss had nothing to do with running. I simply like food too much. Joining MFP and tracking what I ate is 100% how I got slim. That being said, my weight loss coincided with me becoming a mum and ditching the high-pressure job for part time freelance work. I’ve heard cortisol plays a big part in weight gain/retention, so a less stressful life would help. That being said, no corporate job, no corporate lunches…

Here is a question for you. Statistically speaking, how many people need to be in a room for there to be an expectation that 2 of them would share they same birthday (day and month, not year)?

This was may journey over 12 months from not exercising to running halves.

Unfortunately I got injured, stopped running, and, surprise, surprise, put a lot of weight on.

Going through it all again is a lot tougher at 53 than it was at 49 for some reason.

Thanks for the tip @7lenny7 and hydration is definitely key to keeping my heart rate in check. I have some SIS tablets with salt to add to my water which did the trick last week and my HR never got over 150.

What are our weekend plans? Anyone have a race?

Doubly so @shanaber - despite everything, you're back out there and giving it full effort ! 🙌🏽

Think I will go for another weekend 'longer' run this weekend. Been carless this week. So have been dropping 9year old off to school via tube+walking. Then running to Wapping tube station, 1 stop north of the River. Otherwise to carry on, cross the bridge and go back on myself... Turns into 6.5M run. Which might be a bit much daily / don't want to injure anything.
So stuck with the 3.75ish level this week!

I think @emptydog (was it?) said he just ran a 5K and made reference to being in the 70+ category.

@TheMrWobbly I’m glad you found that staying better hydrated has helped. Keep at the weight loss effort. Good work! It’s a slower process as we get older, but still worth the effort to get those pounds off.

Hi Everyone,

I braved another bike tour this morning and it was quite rewarding. I biked 50.4 km. This time, I picked a shorter route that I would actually finish. The first half was basically uphill and culminated at the Gaußturm - any of you mathematicians heard of Gauß? In any case, one of the things he was famous for was measuring distances and one of his reference points was the top of the largest mountain (hill) in the area. Very steep. I panted and huffed my way to the top. It was a good ride, but there were quite strong wind gusts and I never could tell what direction they would come from, so today my main challenge was staying atop the bike and staying in a roughly straight line on the downhills.

My leg feel absolutely fine today. I am going to attempt to run an easy 10 minutes tomorrow. At the first sign of calf pain I will abort. Fingers crossed it will go well and I can then slowly start increasing my mileage again. I am getting used to cross training, but biking is a far off second to the joy and peace that I get from running.

@ContraryMaryMary That is an amazing increase in speed and an incredible accomplishment to get that much faster between 36 and 46! I also like running fast (for me fast- by no means olympic standard), but don't always have the headspace to do the work it takes (intervals/sprints) solo. Also, I do worry about injury more if I do the fast stuff too often.

Anyone else following the Barkley Marathons at the moment? I sure do hope that a woman (Jasmin Paris) finally finishes it!

@SummerSkier Great job getting out for rainy walks. I hope you get in some running this weekend. This may be a stupid question, but why is everyone panicking over the eclipse? It's going to get dark, then it will get light again. The sky isn't falling. Hope you don't need the 45 cal, but glad you have it if you do.

@shanaber You sure don't look 68! I miss @MobyCarp and @PastorVincent a lot. I wasn't here a long time before @MobyCarp passed, but I do remember he always had the best posts.

Glad the rain stopped and you were able to get in a dry 6 mile run @kgirlhart .

That is a great transformation @ContraryMaryMary . I can see how much fitter you are and slimmer too. It sounds like a lot of us have put on a few pounds we'd like to get off again. Maybe this discussion will give us the motivation to try just a bit harder.

@TheMrWobbly I'd guess 366? Great transformation. You did it once, you can do it again. It does get harder as we get older though.

Great running @tarun_yadavA and having shorter runs in the mix of everyday running is probably a good idea for most of us mortals. I think @AlphaHowls is the exception here.

Today, I did a 2 mile treadmill walk early, before heading out for the day.

After the walk, mom and I headed to town for hair cuts and then we went to the hospital to see my new grand-niece Magnolia Grace. She was born yesterday. Pictures in the spoiler is you want a baby fix. LOL

I had Parkrun again this morning. Not as fast as I’d hoped to be, but I am running on tired legs. My return to five minutes per kilometre pace is a way off yet 😂. However, it was a small field, so my effort was good enough for fourth woman home.
