Tracey - EAs are also paid a pittance over here too. It's disgusting. I think many make up the hours by doing after school clubs, holiday clubs etc. You would be in great demand with your craft skills.
When you said you wanted to work with teenagers, I thought you meant as a counsellor, but I guess that is a much longer and more expensive training.
I hope you don't have to go back to your previous line of work. You have such a talent with kids.
I got very little sleep last night. I didn’t feel very tired, and I was thinking about the visit of my schoolfriends, starting Sunday. I feel I ought to host an evening, if they've come all this way, and I was turning over possibilities. (I will join them at the fish restaurant on Sunday early evening.) We have a Zoom today, so I can discuss it with them.
Monday is my cleaner day, so I could host an aperitif session, after her, at tea time, followed by decent pizza from around the corner, and I can make a big green salad. Perhaps John could do one of his famous fruit salads for dessert.
Champagne will be in order, I feel, to celebrate my progress. Then red wine from Italy.
Sounds like a plan.
Or I could join them at Shandiz. .....
My feeling is that P hasn't seen my house before, and might want to, but they could come here for aperitif anyway, whatever we decide. I would have to ask for a contribution to the pizza, as it's very expensive. John and I usually share a Funghi one. I guess the others could share two between three, if they could agree on the varieties! I could afford three, but not five.
These were the thoughts rattling through my brain in the night.
I did my exercises first thing and took all my pills. I'm still on blood thinners. I will try another short expedition outside later. I noticed this morning that I was less out of breath. My range of motion is improving.
John is making his signature Hairy Bikers' Lancashire Hotpot today. In addition to the normal lamb, it also has lamb's kidney and black pudding in it. There will be half for another day, maybe Friday, as potatoes don't freeze well. We will have French beans with it.

Heather-what is the size of the pizzas? Ours run from personal to extra large. Your prices look similar to most of our large size. And I would have the meathead.1

Ginny - The pizzas are about 10" -12" across I think. But they are thin, like real Italian pizzas, and cooked on a stone floor, to gas flame. This place is not wood fired , like Fatto a Mano, but the dough is 24 hour sourdough. It is considered bad form to have slices, which is often a cheaper, more commercial, doughy type. You normally have one each, but that is expensive for takeaway!
It is literally around the corner from us. Haven't had one for months now, but it's a good fallback.
Just about to take a short stroll outside. I will take one crutch.

Good morning ladies!
Today is a new holiday, Juneteenth, to celebrate the end of slavery in the US. The senior center is closed and it's too hot to be outside. I have my books to read, but Dad will be lonely and bored. Or maybe I'm borrowing trouble.
My cold is dragging on. I bought some nasal spray but I couldn't get it open. So frustrating.
Today I need to look up some things on my dad's computer. I resist because I don't want to do it behind his back, but I don't want him to be involved either. Such a delicate dance.
But in general things are going very well with the senior center. I will miss it today.

Good Morning! I have two kitties running around like terrors. It is such a happy feeling! The vet called me yesterday afternoon for two things. First to check on Cali. He was as excited as I was that she is so much better. The second was to tell me that they both have coccidia (parasite) and would need to be on antibiotics for 20 days. We planned to rush up there after work to pick up the prescription, but he showed up at my work with the med. He said he got out of surgeries early and lives close to our work, so just brought it by. I shared videos of kitties playing. He is so happy! I think I found the right vet! Today was starting to mix their old food back in with the expensive food. We will see how that goes.

So yesterday was my sleep referral. While I would much rather try the mouth piece, it is just not an option. Cost for that would be between 4K-6K, not covered by insurance, and not followed by sleep lab. So my DH and I will be sporting matching cpap machines. yeah.....I had more apneas than his original test, but he actually use to quit breathing more with lower O2 stats. I was exhausted last night. I think the stresses of kitties finally caught up with me. The sleep doctor said they wanted to start me with the full mask. That was quickly staunched! I can't stand to have my nose and mouth covered by anything. Memories of a childhood trauma. So nose cushion it is. Should be in to supply company in 7-10 days. Like Lanette I am in healthy BMI even though 5-10 lbs less is my comfort zone, so losing weight wouldn't help. I have always snored and ground teeth, but DH will tell you that it is a gentle snore now versus 30 lbs ago.
Way behind on work and still not caught up here, but it will all come together.
Healing thoughts for those injured or ill!

Morning, my chickens, feeling well rested this morning and clear-headed. Appreciate that.
Kylia - So pleased the babies are thriving. You definitely picked the right vet on the second try.
Heather - Have fun with your friends - you don't have to be the perfect host, you know... but I get the the need to feel like one. I'd order the Funghii, with some added olives, prosciutto and possibly pepperoni if it's good. I do love mushrooms.
In fact, last night, my dinner was baby bella mushrooms sautéed in roasted garlic, olive oil, and butter, then added a few tablespoons of my homemade pesto, deglazed it all with a little white wine and turned it into a pan sauce, served with two Italian meatballs over basmati rice. Corey had a half dozen meatballs (I made and froze them a while back) with potato pancakes made from the garlic mash from Monday night. Plus he ate a third of my dinner, once I ate all I could. Really fun seeing what you can turn leftovers into.
Cor brought me home a cooling towel - apparently they had ordered 30 of them at work, and the guys don't use them, so he brought me one to try. I will definitely use them for outside work - if it can keep my core temp down, it's worth it, and I'm going to be soaking wet with sweat anyway the minute I step outside.
Got six of the ten kitchen window panes covered with the UV film yesterday. Am getting better and faster at it as I go along, thank goodness--but by the time I get really good at, I'll be done...👀😜 Another version of Murphy's Law.
Got iced tea brewing, once that's done, I'll walk the trash down, check to see if any mail came in yesterday, and get a few outside things done. Then back inside to do more on the windows. The heat won't let up again anytime soon, so best to get them finished before it's up over 100 degrees... we're still just getting up to the low 90s now. (32C +)

Went out for my walk! John came with me, though I was ready to go on my own. I chose to walk up the road to the top. A couple of bumpy areas because of the tree roots, but I managed it there and back. At the main road I decided to call in at the 'corner shop' and bought three bars of Ritter (German) chocolate. Dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts. It's difficult to find the dark, so I used to call in there occasionally. I buy three so I can pay with a card.
Felt quite pleased with myself. Then made a delicious tomato salad for lunch with basil, to have with pork pie, and celery and lettuce. It was fabulous. English mustard.

Rosemarie - I forgot to comment that it was so neat your son spent a few days with you. And glad you are no longer volunteering at the cat rescue and enjoying your time reading and doing things with your yard.
Kylia - you have an awesome vet. The kitties will do well under his care (and yours )
Debbie - if I was in charge of the world I'd lock your mom's roommate in with MIL for a few days and see who survives . Let them go a few rounds! Who knows, it might be a good~! Regarding you pulling up stakes and moving in with your mom, could your DH be trusted to take care of the cats or is that mainly your job? I'm not sure about getting another cat but those little Siamese mixes you are taking care of sure are cute. Glad you don't live close.
Lisa - good job putting that UV film on. I don't think I'd survive in your hot temps. I was working outside a little bit yesterday afternoon in 70 degree sunshine and I nearly swooned, lol.
I was up way too early this morning with a sinus headache. I put the Zyrtec bottle away yesterday morning when I was clearing the bathroom counter so Collette could do her thing. And forgot to take one. So I was up at 2:30, stuck a little Vicks in my nose, had a couple cups of coffee and all is good. Will take the Zyrtec later this morning before I head out to work in the yard/mow. It's going to be warm so hoping the grass gets dried off before 10 when the thermometer is still in the 60's. I heard mowers going at 7 pm last night, and that's an option too - luckily, most of my lawn is in total shade by then.

Mushrooms taste like musty, muddy, slimy rubber to me.
But then, I am not at all keen on the umami flavours ... I skip or skim over several of the meal descriptions here.

Machka - I think the key is the "sautéed" part of that sentence. I do not like raw mushrooms AT ALL. Corey and I were talking about it last night. I'm in love with roasted garlic of late, as well, and I've always avoided garlic before - I think it's never been cooked enough for me. I could go into the list, but what it amounts to is that so many vegetables, etc., taste bitter to me, cooked or raw, but mushrooms and garlic change completely when cooked correctly for me.

Heather I would get the Funghi with added pepperoni! That’s what we usually order anyway, but yours sounds really good with the various mushrooms on it!
Breakfast today, last of Corn Chex, 3 strawberries, 1/2 banana, 1 TB. Almond butter
Dinner yesterday was chicken fried steak (from Sam’s Club-note to self DON’T Buy again! Yuck!) with a dab of tomato sauce, slice of provolone cheese and couple slices of pepperoni to hide the taste. The rest of the cauliflower/beet salad in Italian Dressing, and 1/4 spaghetti with genoaise on it. (Genoaise has carrots, celery, and onions chopped and cooked with prosuito, beef, and butter made like a sauce. It’s awesome! Also left over).
Dinner was only a cup of Oikos Triple Zero with a handful of macadamia nuts. Snack was Orange with macadamia nuts.

Well I haven't weighed myself since May 7 and I have been off my diet since well before then. But I'm doing well so far today!
Yesterday I was thoroughly disgusted with the flab on my body. I have gained about thirty pounds since last summer. Time to get serious about losing it!

Annie - I weighed myself this morning for the first time in months. Through the worst of the immobility and pain, I have put on about 3 lbs. Of course, I was already overweight last time I weighed myself, which had crept up over 4 years! I'm looking forward to getting more active again, as I'm eating sensibly. However, the second hip operation will throw a spanner in the works again. Still, three pounds could be worse.
I haven't been able to walk for more than ten minutes for around a year, so that accounts for some of it.
I can smell John's delicious Lancashire Hotpot! Just finished our Zoom. My suggestions for arrangements were accepted.

We renewed our passports last year. I went online and read the directions carefully. Then I printed the forms. Then I read the directions again before filling out the forms. I proofread them carefully. We got our photos taken at Walgreen's (many places do photos, I looked online to find where we could go). It was expensive but I knew the photos would be correct. I mailed everything using Priority Mail to make it extra safe. It was expensive. It was several months before the new passports came which is what they said it would be. It was a lot of work but worth the effort. For many reasons, I feel that having a passport is something that adults do. We have no plans to go anywhere that requires a passport but it feels good to have a current one.

[Lisa in AR] I have used online for passport renewal, getting visas to other countries, and for Global Entry. Barbie had a good suggestion- print everything out first and make sure you have all documentation and credit card handy before you start online. Also, be sure to photocopy each page of your old passport before you mail it to the Passport Office.
You can also make an appointment at the Post Office and do the application there. If it seems like you are not getting the renewed passport back in a reasonable amount of time, call your local Senator or Congressperson. They all have a staff member who specializes in this. Some even hold "passport application and renewal days" in a local library or other public location.
Yes, I am back. I have been reading the community for a while but so much has happened, in my life and that of the family, and work and overseas, that I just couldn't get the energy to add even one comment or post. I am so glad that the stalwarts all seem to be continuing although I have missed seeing some posts from a few I remember. My favorite posts were Pip's bike and garden stories, Lisa's book (Any more published? I really liked the mystery you wrote.), Heather's trip to the Artic Circle in Norway, Kelly's daycare kids, and so much more.
My weight actually is slightly less that it was a few years ago. So back on track.

Heather they all sound really yummy! My husband however would probably get the one with just pepperoni and mozzarella cheese on it. I though love the Symphony of flavors going on!

This morning I balanced the checkbook. I swear my husband goes on walkabouts with his deduction skills! And this is using be calculator as well. How can you start out with 535.00-18.00=560.00?? I'm like where did this come from? So had to refigure everything and balanced. That must've been first day of his cold! He hasn't been going to the gym tis week. Though he did attend Monday and he said he was tired there, and I was like why did you go then? He is taking lots of naps. He processes medicine really quickly. But he's in a fair mood, eating normally, so its not taking a toll on the man.👍🏼 My cold was just like 3 days, and I was careful not to give it to him, but I guess I still did, or he got it from our car ride last Friday.
I made him some blueberry scones yesterday. Its from a package you just add cold water, knead a bit, plop on counter with a bit of flour, make into a mound and cut them into triangles. Because I made some glaze like they said on the package a while ago, I now put them on all, because husband stated they keep them moist longer. My last batch were plain, because I didn't have any powdered sugar for glaze. He was like, even though I am watching my sugar intake, we need to buy more, they taste better with the glaze. Ok boss.😁👍🏼 I don't really have any.
Yesterday I played with the fruit I bought on Friday. Decided to maserate it. Cut up strawberries and pitted the Bing cherries with a single chopstick. Added a splash of lemon, some sugar and a splash of mineral water, tossed and set in frig for a bit. I then toasted a slice of my hearty grain bread, spread on a layer of thick yogurt, and pressed in the fruit. It was delightful!
I still have the yogurt and some fruit, so today will be a repeat performance with some coffee.
