I am here! I actually don't know how many miles I have walked or run to date but I am trying to get out in the mornings for something and strava could probably tell me. My fitbit GPS update from google really hosed it up and now it only counts miles for specific walks or exercise vs all the miles I spend walking at work etc which is strange. So I guess after RTY I will trash it and just stick with Apple watch. I really only picked up using both again for the sleep info and the hourly reminders during the pandemic but I think I can let it go again.
I have enjoyed reading all the updates and the photos. Esp the ones of Japan. I felt like I was on a family vacation there. And of course Tippy and the beach~!
Hopefully I can go back and fill in the mileage data from my watch later today as it almost feels disconcerting not to keep the spreadsheet up after so many years.
This group keeps me sane and it;s one of the first things I read in the mornings. Thank you all!9 -

Good luck with the tech. I find it fun, motivating, and interesting. Sometimes it hoses up and I get frustrated and mad. Though of course the "Tech" doesn't matter and I realize that and move on. It is fun though.
The Quantified Scientist youtube does a lot of in-depth testing of these dodads ability to accurately track sleep. My super cheap fitbit is the highest bang for buck according to him. It is amongst the best, and I paid $20 for it.
The top are apple watches and Oura rings.
My poor Garmin (which is absolutely top in running, training, GPS, outdoor swimming, etc ) is middle of the road in sleep tracking...that prompted me to get the cheap fitbit.
As time and tech go onward, all of these things are becoming miraculous marvels of modern medicine, and still it doesn't really matter. "Yes" it does count if I run and I don't have on my garmin to track. "Yes" it does count if I have a solid restorative night's sleep but my fitbit screws up the monitoring.

Back in town and getting back on schedule. With the time change, yesterday was a long day. I wasn't tired enough to sleep early in the flight so I was awake for about 28 hours yesterday. Watched some Olympics after we got home and that kept me from going to bed too early. I love watching all the different sports in the Olympics. Right now I'm watching cross country horse riding.
I went out for a short run this morning. It was lightly raining, which felt nice. After the intense heat in Tokyo, it didn't feel too bad. Even though I didn't run the last week we were outside all day in some pretty extreme conditions and I think that helped maintain or maybe even improved my heat acclimation.4 -
+3.85 7/28 - 22.14 miles total this month
Got back into strength training yesterday (pretty gently, testing where I’m at) and it felt great…I don’t think I regressed too much due to covid and am feeling happy about that. I didn’t regress at all in my running progress and decided to slowly work my way from 5k to 10k while the weather is good. Most likely I’ll eventually stick with the 5k distance during the week and do longer runs on the weekend.
Sorry if I don’t comment as much as I would like, I sometimes get eye strain (I have some double vision and wear a prism for that) and have to limit screen time…I still find the thread motivating7 -

Haha, running suddenly goes so well that I realized my stamina suffered badly under months of not being able to run well. I just went too fast today.6 -
Beach 4.02 Mile (at 12"57 pace). 89 day streak.
Nice that it came in under thirteen minutes/miles. It was a hot week and it broke yesterday, it was a nice cool run.
San Diego's Comic-Con is on full blast here this weekend for all you nerds and geeks.8 -

@chris_in_cal no pic of you with Joker face paint?! C'maaaaaan5 -
It's the best I can do...right after my run.
If you squint you can kind of see the joker resemblance.7 -
@Laurz9191 Sounds like you had a really nice trip to the South of France! I love the picture of the kids laying on the ground. LOL Beautiful pictures and you got some running in. Glad you didn't get hit.
Great long run @ContraryMaryMary ! Good job with the nap too.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great running.
Congratulations @AmunahSki on such a great increase in pace and distance in just 6 weeks!
Thanks @SummerSkier I'm so glad to see you posting. I have seen your posts on Strava every once in a while. Sorry you are having issues with fitbit. Technology can be so frustrating.
@martaindale Glad you are getting back on schedule and the Tokyo heat helped keep you acclimated to TX running.
Sounds like you recovered well from CoVID @henridw2095 . Getting back into things slowly is the smart way to go.
You're doing great @yirara .
Excellent pace @chris_in_cal . Hahaha with the "Joker" face.

Hi everyone!
This morning I got my mountain run in again. It was uneventful, so no near misses with cars/car doors today . The uphill felt a bit easier today. Maybe because I had water with me, or perhaps I am getting used to it. It is a lot slower going though and I am not getting my usual mileage in. My Garmin says I am in recovery mode. Oh well, or I suppose I should say, c'est la vie . 8km is better than 0 . Tomorrow I hope to get in the same before touring for the day.
@tarun_yadavA We really liked Marseille. It had a lot of character and artsy stuff to look at. That being said, I’m sure there are parts of the city you wouldn’t want to find yourself alone in at night and we could smell weed oddly frequently throughout the day (this was also something I noticed when I visited Bordeaux, so maybe a French thing?). There were actual security people and police that seemed to be tasked with insuring that the city center was a place tourists felt comfortable, perhaps because of the olympics (sailing will be held there) or perhaps just to boost tourism. I’m not sure. But definitely worth a 1-2 day visit.

I didn’t make my 10-mile goal yesterday but ran 6.53 miles instead. That means I will have to run extra in the next three days to meet my monthly goal. I think I can, I think I can…Today I met a friend and rode bikes 33.48 miles. I got to our meeting point early so I took advantage of the cool morning temps (62F) and ran a mile before she arrived.
Love the pictures from southern France @Laurz9191!
Glad you made it home safe and sound @martaindale. Loved seeing the photos and hearing about your adventures.

I ran 11 miles this morning. It was a surprisingly good run. I didn't get to bed until 1:00 am, so I was not ready to get up this morning. When I finally got out the door it was already 8:10 and 77°F. There was a 15 mph wind which I don't usually care fir, but it did help keep the temperature bearable and I ended up having a great run. I saw a jackrabbit in the cemetery and a great blue heron landing at the creek. I felt good and strong. I slowed a bit the last two miles, but I kept all of my miles under 12 minutes except mile 10 and that was 12:04. My overall pace was 11:46. I thought that was good considering the heat, and I usually rum my long run a little slower than other runs.
My "granddog" has been here this weekend. We've had a good time playing Frisbee. He also likes to sit on the couch with me, so we had plenty of time to relax too. Yesterday morning I took both dogs for a walk. I brought Pup home after half a mile. She loves to go for walks, but that is really enough for her. Ein and I went back out for another 2 miles. It was fun. I miss being able to walk to the park with Pup.
Glad you made it home @martaindale. Thanks for sharing Japan with us.
I'm also enjoying the pictures from the south of France @laurz9191.

Morning all
Got in 7.21 miles at 09"54 pace.
@Laurz9191 glad you enjoyed Marseille... And the city spruced itself up for the Olympics!
@kgirlhart enjoy Corgi-sitting!
@chris_in_cal my maaannn!
Update your Bumble profile with that one!5 -
you guys are too funny! Well I sat down and addup up my mileage. I am at 86 for the month running which is pretty low but I think I can finish strong with an avg of 3 or 5K per day which would be about 95 total.
5 miles yesterday. If Tarun says his run was HOT than I think mine would be SAUNA level. But ok. I am back on Strava just keeping it a little low key and trying to accept things are the way they are.
I sold my horse trailer. 🙃😃🥹 Mixed emotions but it was a circa 95 edition and even if I get another horse sometime in my future it was pretty much past its prime for someone who is not a fixer upper handy person. Facebook marketplace is actually a pretty decent place (and free) to sell things! I think I had 1000 views but I only ended up meeting one person who bought it for the price I listed without haggling. I have never sold a vehicle to a private party before so the whole thing was new and a little scary to me. My neighbor was nice enough to come with and we used velle (which is a bank ap) which I don't have so transaction was easy and safe. You can also send title transfer online in Tx so no needing to go and wait at the county tax office to transfer. It gives me hope that I can learn new things.... 😃
I figured out the fitbit issue. It had put my walking step length to 0. I know that it just strange because it took me a while to figure out where in the app to go to set it up properly so it was something google did. Same with turning GPS off on running and walking by default. It's like Google is TRYING to kill Fitbit. ya think?6 -
Hi everyone! I went on a 9km loop this morning. I did forget to start my watch again after taking this picture
and noticed it over a km later, do Strava only thinks I ran 7.7km . Oh well.
I checked out a new path at the top of the mountain today. There was quite a nice view from the top.
Today we went through a very pretty town called La Lavendou and are now trying to wait out the sun in Saint Tropez before looking around the town, because it is just too hot to look around in the heat of the day.

I guess the relatively cooler weather we had last week is over. It was 77°F this morning at 5:45. Since yesterday was my long run I ran a shorter 3.3 mile run today. It was pretty good. It was hot but kind of windy so the breeze helped. I wouldn't mind if the breeze was a little less strong though. It was about 15 mph. It was dark when I started out, and just starting to get light as I got home. So it was warm, but still a pretty morning.
I didn't even notice that I reached my goal yesterday. I probably need to start setting a more challenging goal, since I usually run further. I tell myself that I like having the flexibility to not worry if the weather is bad, or if I need to take a day off for any reason. I like to set a goal that I know I can make and I don't want to stress about it or injure myself to reach an arbitrary goal.

It was much hotter this morning with 100% humidity. I took my frozen hydration pack, used the salt tabs, and did the 4/1 intervals. It's looking like more of the same tomorrow.
I'm nowhere close to my goal. I knew it was a reach due to being out of the country for half the month. The hurricane and subsequent power outage caused some unexpected missed runs. I'll get 1 more run in this month.6 -
Hello Everyone. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend as well as a great Monday.
I'm still progressing in my training for my upcoming Half Marathon in November. However, I am going to be shy my 50-mileage goal for July. Today, with today's miles, I will be at 39.8 miles. For the next 2 days, I'm going to be shy of the 50 miles by 5 miles. That's okay though, because I'm getting back into run/walking. My main goal is to really stick to my training schedule so I can complete the Half and not have to step down to the 5K due to injury. For August, I will keep my goal of 50 miles and keep focus on my training along with my strength training and stretching routines.
Everyone, have a great evening. Make sure you're getting that rest your body needs.8 -

Nice running @Laurz9191 . Do hills really get any easier? Very nice photos!
You can do it @Teresa502 ! Nice biking too.
@kgirlhart Glad you had such a great run. Love the dog pictures! Congrats on already reaching your monthly goal!
You're doing great @SummerSkier ! Good job on learning new things too. My nephew sales all sorts of things on FB marketplace. I have no clue as to how to do all of that stuff, so, if needed, he does it for me. LOL Weird that fitbit set your stride length to 0. Glad you got that figured out.
Thanks for setting up the August thread @AlphaHowls . Cute cartoon.
You're doing great running in the heat @martaindale !
@steviebee888 You are doing great.2 -

No doubt in my mind and they are openly undermining Fitbit to push their products. I used the web on my desktop till just recently when they shut it down in July. I do not like the app at all. Once my charge 6 is dead, I will find something different.1 -

I went to the gym this morning for the first time in 2 weeks! I could tell some of the things I did were a bit harder than they were just 2 weeks ago. I do go before I ate breakfast, so that could have had something to do with it.
Afterwards, I got blood work done for my annual physical next week, got Hardee's take out for breakfast, and worked at daycare for about 7 hours.
After I got home, I did a treadmill session. I didn't want to spend much more than 30 min total, so I walked half a mile to warm up, ran one mile with not walking (mostly 2/1 min at 5.0/4.2 mph), walked half a mile for cool down. Running pace was 12:35 min/mile. Avg HR was 138 with a max of 152 bpm.4 -

Luckily I think the roof did fine. We had a lot of rain here while we were in Japan and no leaks. We’ll have an inspector come out to check everything anyway. It’s possible we lost some shingles along the ridges where they put the extra layers for exactly this purpose. I can’t see all of those from the ground. We replaced our fence last year and it held up well. It’s looking like just food loss.6 -

I did a treadmill session this morning before heading out for the day. I walked half a mile for warm up and cool down. The run was a run/walk of 2/1 min at 4.2-4.8/4.0 mph. Avg pace of 13:46 min/mile. Avg HR was 120 with a max of 137 bpm.
My thighs are really sore this morning. Walking down the stairs to the treadmill was tough. They hurt when I was walking at 3.8 mph, but the run and faster walk was okay. Go figure. I'm assuming they are sore from the gym workout yesterday. I am surprised though, because it wasn't the hardest workout I've ever done. Could it have been because I didn't eat first? Maybe not hydrated enough? Or, just worked hard after 2 weeks off.4
