I mowed the rest of the lawn that I didn't get done on Wednesday and bush hogged the hill next to my shop again. It was hard to believe how big a couple of the trees were since I just cleaned it off in the Spring.
After a rest, I did a driveway walk. When I played tennis Thursday night, I stepped wrong and must have twisted my ankle a little. It doesn't hurt, but I did notice that it was a little bit swollen last night, so I didn't want to run today. I'll give it a rest from the pounding of running for a couple of days and then see how it does.6 -
With my husband still away, it was no run for me yesterday. Instead, I channeled my inner @quilteryoyo and pruned all the trees along my driveway, got out the line trimmer to tidy the edges of the driveway, mowed the lawn, which in itself is a 2km walk, and then mowed the back lawn on the zero turn. And then I tidied the veggie garden in anticipation of planting new spring vegetables in the next few weeks. It was a pretty full day. Was shattered by the end of it but now I’m working up the energy to go outside and spray - fungicide and weed killer required.
My husband is currently on a aeroplane home and I’m looking forward to not being a solo parent anymore.9 -

It's fun, but takes a couple of season to really rid all weeds.
Best done in late winter, early spring when weeds are small and germinating.4 -

Woke up early today to meet co-worker for our 6-mile walk/run. Unfortunately, he was sick this week. But, he still wanted to persevere this morning. We met up and started out. After a little over 2 miles, he was struggling with congestion. I told him to listen to his body and we can call it a day. Nope, he wanted to at least continue with a walk instead. So, that's what we did. We accomplished 5.8 miles. Not bad for a Saturday morning. Tomorrow, I'm going out solo tomorrow to get my 6 run/walk miles. Now, I'm going to go rest with my fur babies.
Everyone, have a wonderful evening. Remember, to listen to your body and take care of yourself.6 -
Morning all
Got in 9 miles again. 09"32 pace.
Hot here in London today !
Have a lovely Sunday all
@ContraryMaryMary are you THAT wife? Poor bloke steps one foot in the door and receives a verbal long list of every single itemised thing that was done in his absence singlehandedly 🤣3 -
@steviebee888 Nice that you stayed back with your friend and helped him get in the workout he wanted. Good luck with your solo wun this morning.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA . Hey, I say @ContraryMaryMary is much better than the wife that meets her husband at the door with a long list of the things that needs to be done.6 -

@AmunahSki I don’t use headphones when I run. I did when I first started. I needed all the distractions and motivation! After a while I stopped using headphones on shorter runs on the advice of @MobyCarp, a former poster here and fountain of knowledge, who advised using a run here and there to focus on your breathing and work on the mental part of running. After doing that for a bit I just naturally stopped using them altogether. I find my runs are more meditative now and I enjoy the quiet. My favorite is when it’s raining and you out there alone. All you can hear is the rain and the sounds of your own feet and breathing. Bonus points for the bump I get during races with all the cheering and pumping music.
@quilteryoyo That is rough day! I’m so impressed you still did your walk.
@ContraryMaryMary That absolutely sounds like an @quilteryoyo day. Yard work always makes me sore. It works muscles I don’t really use often.8 -
August Goal: 130 Miles
8/1: 3.53 miles
8/2: 6.05 miles
8/4: 13.16 miles
8/5: 3.13 miles

8/7: 6.05 miles
8/8: 3.55 miles
8/9: 6.02 miles
8/11: 10.10 miles
57.61/130 miles completed for August
I had a nice run today. Hal's plan called for a long run of 7 miles at a 11:50 pace. I ran 10 miles at a pace of 11:52 so I thought that was pretty good. He didn't comment, so I guess thst was ok. One issue that I have with the plans is they all seem to start at a lower mileage than what I am currently running. I don't want to run less. I just want to add in some speed work so I am not just running the same base run every time. I may skip the plan and just add in a tempo run or some hills or intervals occasionally.
Today's run was pretty good. It was hot. It was 80° feels like 85°at the start and 90°feels like 96°at the end. I should have gotten up earlier, but I didn't get to bed until after 1:00 am and I felt like I needed the sleep more. And honestly I don't think it was much cooler earlier anyway. I got barked at by some dogs, but their owner was with them and they didn't chase me and I saw a grave digger at the cemetery today. But other than that it was a pretty routine Sunday run.

Running behind on posts!
Friday was a truly miserable morning weather wise. I really tried to keep it easy and extended a couple of my walk breaks by 30secs or so because I knew I had my long run the next morning.
Saturday I went to the greenway trail. It was still very hot and humid but I got a little breeze on my way back, which felt great! I also focused on taking my walk breaks more slowly and managed to keep my HR lower (avg 157 bpm) than on the shorter run the day before (avg 162 bpm) and I got my HR down lower on my walk breaks despite an extra 1.5 miles. So, lesson learned. I’ll add slower walk breaks to the summer arsenal.
Later in the day we picked up dinner from a Greek restaurant for my MIL’s birthday. We usually go out but my FIL is recently out of the hospital and still feeling a little weak. This week is my husband’s birthday. He’s turning 50 and in a bit of denial about it. Hopefully my FIL feels stronger so we can take him out for a b-day dinner.5 -

Unless I’m coming off a higher load month or feel like I could use a bit of a break, I often skip ahead to a place that fits where I am actually starting from. If I want to make sure not to skip certain speed workouts early in the program, I add mileage to the easy workouts to get things to a volume that feels more appropriate for where my fitness is.4 -
Clarksville, TN just got a new roundabout. I have watched construction for a few years. We have 9 live traffic cameras and I use these as my entertainment. This is Rhonda the Roundabout
https://g1.ipcamlive.com/player/player.php?alias=6144b8a85e72a&skin=white&autoplay=0&mute=1&disableautofullscreen=1&disableframecapture=1&disabletimelapseplayer=1&disabledownloadbutton=1&disableplaybackspeedbutton=1&disableuserpause=1
They even made a facebook page for her. Yes, I am easily amused and entertained.

We also have Gary The Guardrail, who gets hit at least once a day. He does not have a traffic cam.5 -

Total 14.16mi/22.78k
Missed going for today’s run in the (cooler) morning so had to wait until the evening. I also had to try a new course as my usual one isn’t long enough for the Garmin scheduled run, and there were more hills than I remembered from walking it! Nevertheless, I ran for the full 40 min (3.15mi/5.06k), so today I achieved my original goal of running for a whole 5k! It was hard going… one foot in front of the other, and repeat as necessary, right?6 -
Great running @yirara .
Great picture @AlphaHowls . Is he going to watch the meteor shower tonight?
Great run in the heat @kgirlhart !
Nice running @martaindale . Happy Birthday to your hubby and MIL. I hope your FIL feels better soon.
HAHAHA @AlphaHowls . I am not a fan of roundabouts. I love that yours has a name AND a song! So funny. Poor Gary. Sounds like he needs a traffic cam.
Congratulations on your 5K distance today @AmunahSki !

My normal Sunday walk after church and before lunch. My ankle swelling is almost gone. I'll probably try a little running tomorrow.5 -
Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a good Sunday! I was able to get in 4.2 miles of walk/run along with 21 minutes of stretching. Total mileage for August is 17 miles with a goal of 50 miles.6
-
Ha, I’m not sure if I should be offended. I am a lovely wife who welcomed my husband home with opens arms and homemade pizza. I *may* have later listed all the things accomplished in the great outdoors over the weekend - hey, he was showing off the trophy he won.
Love the roundabout clip @AlphaHowls - who hasn’t driven round and round a roundabout - if not intentionally then accidentally (I have no sense of direction and I found it is wiser to go around and around until I know the right exit rather than panicking and getting off on the wrong one).
Missed both my weekend runs and I am currently procrastinating but should head out soon - my body is a bit achy from all the garden work, but not the running muscles, right?6 -
So I got out there and did my 16k ‘Sunday long run’ in hilly Coatesville (it’s Monday) but it wasn’t the hills that were the challenge today - it was super windy, and a cold wind too. Quite hot in the sun out of the wind so I seemed to waver between overheating and freezing as I progressed. Fortunately the headwinds mostly coincided with the downhills and pushed me on the worst of the up.
I was also actively thinking of the running style of an elite runner I follow - more pushing behind me for a longer stride. It’s effective but consequently I went far too fast for this distance and elevation Garmin not only told me I was unproductive but also suggested I rest for 46 hours!
We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. Pretty tired legs right now.8 -
Morning all.
Got in 5.85M at 09"50. Took it a bit easier after 18M over the weekend... And today is even hotter!
@ContraryMaryMary well done on the 10Miler! 🙌🏽
As for the list of things as soon as a man walks through the door when he's been away.... I kid.
Anyone ever heard of those"Love Languages" thing? Well my wife's is "Acts of Service" (and mine well... isnt).
So when she's all p!ssy with me, I get a long itemised list of everything she's done often categorised by whether I acknowledged it or not.
Impressive that she (women?) can recall so much information from memory in one go.
Anyhoo...
Happy 50th to your husband @martaindale
Is there a party? Or anything cool planned outside of family dinner?

It was a nice, cool 62F for this morning’s run and I saw a shooting star!
@mari33a – How did your brother do in his bike race?
@quilteryoyo – Sorry you had such a rough day on Friday. So inspiring that you still did your walk after everything! Glad the ankle is doing better.
@kgirlhart – Did you sign up for a half?
Great cross training @ContraryMaryMary!
Happy Birthday to your FIL and Hubby @martaindale!
Very nice roundabout @AlphaHowls! I understand your fascination. I watched for a couple of minutes this morning and noticed that only one vehicle used a signal when exiting the roundabout. Sometimes when I’m in meetings on the 5th floor in our main office building, I like to watch cars entering and leaving the parking lot to see how many of them stop at the stop signs or how many do a roll and go. Lol at Gary the Guardrail! Sounds like he has a tough job with whatever he is guarding.
Yippee for meeting your 5K goal @AmunahSki!
Thanks again for all the great info @tarun_yadavA! Nine days until we leave and I’m getting excited! Now if only I were packed!

Home from the house sitting and spending the day after sleeping. I thought it would be restful.
Ran 2.1 miles this morning.
Re Rhonda: I watched Rhonda more than I would like to admit after seeing @AlphaHowls link.
I also found this link about Rhonda:

I ran 3.5 miles this morning. It was 81° when I started out. This heat is really starting to get old. It was a pretty uneventful run. Just an easy pace recovery run after yesterday's long run.
That is a great idea @martaindale. That's what I need to do.
@Teresa502 I haven't signed up for a half yet, but there are two I am considering for this fall. One is in November and one in December. I'm leaning toward the November race, but need to check the calendar for any conflicts.

Ha @yirara, I love the fact your app tells you you’ve earned a Bloody Mary - so much more motivating than what my Garmin gives me.7

@Mari33a Congrats to your brother and his teammate!! That's amazing!
@tarun_yadavA We are meeting up with some of his friends for pizza at his favorite place then going to an Astros game on Saturday.
Congratulations on the 5k @AmunahSki6 -

Treadmill run after work today in the climate controlled comfort of my house. Recovery run with a few strides.7 -
@ContraryMaryMary What did your husband get a trophy for? I'm sure you told us, but I've slept since then. I'm sure he was glad that you got all of that work done while he was gone. Nice long run. Sounds like there was no "right" way to dress for that weather. I should probably work on my stride, but so far I'm okay with the Grandma shuffle.
Glad you took it a bit easy today @tarun_yadavA ! Nice run. I have heard of the "Love Language" thing. I don't know what mine is...haven't really thought about it. I think we all like to have our efforts acknowledged though - at least every once in a while.
Thanks @Teresa502 It was a bit cool this morning. Great run. I didn't get up in time to see any shooting stars. I did think about going out and looking during the hour I was laying in bed awake last night, but didn't. Even though I know what they are, they tend to scare me a bit. Odd phobia maybe? Or maybe I heard the story of chicken little way too many times as a kid.
Nice run @yirara .
Welcome home and nice running @emptydog . The Rhonda 500 sounds like some of @AlphaHowls crazy laps.
Nice recovery run @kgirlhart .
@mari333a Wow. That's amazing. Congratulations to your brother and his teammate! That's awesome.
Nice climate controlled recovery run @martaindale .
