It is a few years old. The touring production is in Houston for a bit. The actor playing Evan looked pretty young but I will admit the actor playing Connor not so much. The show was really good though.
@AlphaHowls I must admit I don't understand wanting to turn the GPS off. On older watches, sure, the GPS could be wonky but on newer ones it works quite well and certainly works better than estimates based on your stride length.5 -

Sometimes a run is so good you feel like you could run forever and you never want to stop. Today's run was not one of those runs. I think that last week's false fall made today's summer weather feel worse. I know I have run in hotter, more humid weather, but today's run was tough. I did manage to run 10 miles, but I was ready to be done after about 4 miles.
I've seen a female pit bull a few times at the cemetery. Today I saw her come under the fence and she ran with me around the cemetery and then followed me to the park. I think she lives somewhere between the cemetery and the park. I saw a few walkers at the park too. When I ran past my mother-in-law's house I saw her getting into her car so I stopped and chatted with her for a couple of minutes and drank some water. I am out of the salt stick tablets. I think it would have helped if I had them. But I did drink plenty of water and took an energy chew halfway through.
@alphahowls I have never tried to turn the GPS off on my Garmin. I have a 45s. It is a little smaller than some of the others. It is a pretty basic model, but it does everything I need and I like it.

@AlphaHowls I don't have a Garmin, but am guessing if the cheaper watches have options for indoor workouts (like treadmill running), that don't use GPS, and you can set up custom workout settings and call them whatever you want, surely Garmin has those features as well.3

Morning all
Got in 5.70 at 10"14 pace
70 day streak!5 -
You are doing great @steviebee888 ! I'm sorry your friend decided not to run the HM with you. Maybe they will still meet you for a few of your runs to help keep you motivated.
@kgirlhart Way to hang in there and get your 10 miles in. I'm glad the pit bull was friendly and just ran with you. Our neighbor's have a couple and they just want to be petted.
Great running and streak @tarun_yadavA .5 -
@AlphaHowls - I have a Garmin Forerunner 245 music (I rarely use the music feature). I have never tried to turn off the GPS feature but have found it to be mostly accurate. You can always ignore it. I have the Garmin Connect app downloaded on my phone and it gives me a summary of the running info (time, pace, cadence, heart rate, etc.). It also give you information on sleep, heart rate, daily steps, etc. One thing for you to consider is the battery life. I had to upgrade a few years back when I started marathon training because my basic Garmin would not last the entire run. With all your long runs, you want to make sure you have enough batter life to last.7
-
@AlphaHowls I would assume if you have your Garmin on the treadmill function the gps is turned off. They also have an indoor running mode where it would also be turned off. So I suppose if you don’t want any gps you could do all your activities as “indoor runs”. The app is where all the data is loaded and how you set up your watch. So I am not sure about using just the watch. I can access all my runs on my watch even back to January.
@quilteryoyo I hope your easy day helps!
@martaindale You run sounded really hard!!! Good job getting through it despite the conditions.
@kgirlhart I’m glad to hear your new four legged companion just wanted to exercise with you .
@polskagirl01 Those pumpkins ARE massive.

Came down with covid, grrrrr. Thought this thing was over and done with already.
I did try to race a granny with a walker across the supermarket parking lot. I lost.10 -
I did my “last” long run today. The weather was quite favourable but I did miscalculate the distance and ended up pretty far away from the car when I had reached my intended mileage. I decided then to walk and use it as a very cold cool down (because it was cold outside and I was all wet from sweating). I ran 22.9km.
I ran the first 10k at easy run pace and then 8 miles at a faster pace (I know @tarun_yadavA I can’t decide whether to go Imperial or Metric but the workout was pre-programmed for my Garmin and I just shortened the first part a bit). Once again, I could easily hit the target pace because the weather was on the cold side. It was a nice run.
Now let the tapering begin .
180.2/270km for September.9 -
@Laurz9191 great job hitting your paces on your last long run. Sounds like you are ready for your race! Enjoy your taper!!!
@WarmJellyfish sorry about your Covid Hope it is mild and you are back at it soon.
It was in the upper 70s again this morning, and will be at least for the rest of the week. So I am picking my battles and only running outside when I have to. For some reason Garmin scheduled a long run for tomorrow, and speed work for Thursday and Saturday. So did my easy run on the TM this morning. I think I will do the long run outside tomorrow, and the ponder Thursday and Saturday.

9/16 - 1 mile to keep streak going. My tendinitis in my left foot is acting up again with trying to keep this streak going. It’s quite painful today and I also have swelling which started back up over the weekend. I may have to bail on my streaking and rest it again. 😢

That is the biggest deal with GPS, it can really pull a battery down. So my longer runs, up to 5 hours can tank a tracker. I have had them keel over while on a run. I have also run the battery down on my ipod and ear buds (when I had them)
3 -
Oh no @WarmJellyfish . I hope you feel better soon. At least you still have your sense of humor.
Nice run @Laurz9191 . Enjoy your taper.
Nice treadmill run this morning @Scott6255 . It is odd that your long run would be scheduled during the week.
Sorry your tendinitis flared back up @daria0919 . Definitely give up on the streak instead of hurting yourself if you need to. A couple of days off is better than a couple of months from injury.
You can do it @Mari33a .
@AlphaHowls The battery on the 745 lasts pretty good. I don't run anywhere close to your distances, but I haven't had any issues with my 10 mile runs. I'd say if it is fully charged, it isn't even half depleted after 10 miles. But, @Teresa502 is correct. You need to compare battery lives since you run such long distances. I always plug my in when I take a shower, so it stays charged every day.

41.5/70 mile goal
I went to the gym this morning. Did 90 pound dead lift again - 8 times.
I did an easy run on the driveway after I got home. I didn't do a warm up walk since it hadn't been long since I finished at the gym. I only had 30 min to run, since I had to get ready to go back to town for my mammogram and bone density tests.
The run was much, much easier than Saturday, thank goodness. Had I had time, I would have ran more. The avg pace was 13:34 min/mile. Avg HR was 128 with a max of 147 bpm.
A group from my gym has started doing some trail runs. I may join them on Saturday. I know I'll be a lot slower than they are, but I think I'll give it a go. I'd really like to run in different areas, at least every once in a while. @Teresa502 The plan is to run from Beauty Spot to Unaka, I think is the name of the trail. Have you hiked that area before?

Today's run was an uneventful 3.5 mile recovery run. It was hot and humid again, but it helped that it was dark outside.
Today has been a tough day. It is the 4th anniversary of my dad's passing away and it has really hit me hard this year. And then this afternoon I found out that a young man I know passed away in his sleep last night. He was 41.

Sunday’s long run was in the late afternoon, and unusually I’d eaten lunch with my family (a chicken and salad wrap) about 3 hours before that: I felt like I was going to puke a couple of times… so I won’t be doing that again! @scott6255 I much prefer to run fasted, but I have recently seen a ZOE interview with Dr Stacy Sims which advises against it. [https://youtu.be/DU4V5OpLp3s]
I’d welcome other views on this!
I moved around my rest days this week because for today’s run I dropped off my car in town (for its annual MOT) and ran home before starting work. I’m simply amazed that I can now contemplate ‘running’ as an actual form of transportation over a 4-5 mile distance - in previous years I would have just sat around and waited for the test (or taken two cars, before we got rid of car number 2).
@alphahowls Garmin user here, Fenix 6S Pro (and use the Connect app). It’s a good all-rounder, but a friend has a Forerunner 265 which provides much more ‘running dedicated’ data: I’m looking at buying this for my son-in-law for Christmas/birthday this year. I’ve had no issues with inconsistent GPS, perhaps look at all your activity settings and try GPS + GLONASS or GPS + GALILEO, or change the recording method between Smart or Every Second (Smart recording saves GPS points when there are changes in speed, direction, heart rate, or elevation; Every Second recording records a GPS point once per second), but yes you can also just turn it off!4 -
Sending lots of hugs to you @kgirlhart
@quilteryoyo group trail runs sound great. Hope you can take advantage of that.
@AlphaHowls my Garmin Forerunner 255 battery lasts about 10-14 days, depending on how much I run outside vs TM. So that would get you maybe 2 days worth with GPS on But it is very accurate.
Did my 'long' run this morning. Not even 9 miles and I was dying at the end. Can't believe how bad of shape I am in compared to just 6 months ago. That 2 month break really broke me.

Was planning to run this morning but it was pouring rain and everyone else cancelled so I did a HiiT workout at home instead.
I hope that you are better soon @WarmJellyFish.
Sending you big hugs @kgirlhart.
@Scott6255 - You are being too hard on yourself. I've seen your paces and distances on Strava and you are doing fabulous getting back to running. You jumped in with both feet and haven't looked back.
@AmunahSki - I understand the science behind not running fasted, but I think everyone's body is different. I usually run fasted because I run early and simply don't have time to eat and let it fully digest before I start my run. Unless I got up at 3:00 am vs. 4:00 am and that's not happening!4 -

I think this used to be a bigger deal than it is now. If you are looking at refurbished, maybe it could be an issue. I have the forerunner 265S and the battery life is amazing. I charge it once every 10-14 days and I wear it 24 hrs a day. I did Dopey with that watch and probably didn’t need to charge it but did for my own peace of mind the night before the marathon.Did my 'long' run this morning. Not even 9 miles and I was dying at the end. Can't believe how bad of shape I am in compared to just 6 months ago. That 2 month break really broke me.
It’ll come back quicker than you think, esp once we actually get into fall. You picked a harsh time of year to come back to running!
@AmunahSki I listened to a podcast with Stacy Sims once and felt so validated! There was a time when running fasted was the in vogue trick to improving your running and it felt like it was being pushed a lot more. But, the data behind that trend was based on men and then extrapolated to women because we are, after all, just smaller men. No other differences whatsoever. I felt terrible when I tried to run fasted and never felt fueled enough even when I was doing what others seemed to be doing. There is also a portion of the running community that seems to view not fueling or drinking water as a badge of honor. I don’t understand it but it means there are people out there making it sound like fueling isn’t really necessary.
Hearing her talk about the role hormones play and how women metabolize nutrition differently made so much sense and mirrored my experience with trying to figure out fueling. These days I only do my 3 mile roll out of bed runs fasted, and that’s because I’m out the door 15 mins after I wake up so don’t have time to eat. I also take those runs easy. By a lot of people’s standards I overfuel, but I have figured out a routine that works for me and it has made longer efforts so much more enjoyable. Sure, I could eat less and still complete the run, but running is supposed to be fun, right?

Temps mellowed a bit and this morning was only 72 f, so much nicer and the run felt better too. I was supposed to run after work yesterday but had such a long, draining day that I just didn’t have it in me when I got home. My husband and I went on a walk after dinner though, so at least got up and moved around a bit.
I went to Pilates on Sunday and I may be able to squeeze a second one in this week. I’m really trying to commit to doing it more regularly. My NJ HM is this weekend. It will be windy, but the temps are looking pretty nice. I need to do some logistics work. If there are lots of aid stations, I may just walk the aid stations. Otherwise, I’ll decide on a walk-run interval. Since this is an experience race, not a time race, I want to minimize the strain on my legs so I won’t need as much time to recover. The walk-run intervals seem to work well for that.7 -

Those types of anniversaries are really tough. Hopefully it came with some wonderful memories of your dad as well.3 -
@AmunahSki I watched the video and she made the women are not small men reference very early on. I am in the throes of perimenopause and really trying to figure out what changes I need to make moving forward. She talked about how women say I woke up squishy. I totally get that. Seemingly overnight I have gained 8 lbs, mostly around my middle. My clothes still fit but are not as comfortable as they used to be. It’s quite frustrating. I recently started taking some supplements that seem to be pretty universally endorsed by menopause professionals. I have noticed that my sleep is so much better since starting magnesium, which was one of the supplements on the list. I super hate high intensity work, but this episode really drove home the importance of mixing it in. Luckily I am able to sprint, so I can mix that into running. It’s been a bit disheartening to hear from several experts that endurance training isn’t necessarily the best thing for perimenopausal women to do. I make time for it because I enjoy it and really don’t want to give up that time to do all the other things but am starting to come to terms with the fact that it just needs to be done.5
-
@AmunahSki, I really rate Dr Stacey Sims. All female athletes (of all levels) should read her book (Roar) or listen to her podcasts. So much of what is standard runners training doesn’t work for women. Eat the carbs, ditch the super cold ice baths, no fasted running, lift heavy, and as for that pesky menstrual cycle, learn to work with it. And she has a lot of great information around perimenopause and menopause.4

I got out this morning and ran 6 miles. It was a pretty morning. The moon was gorgeous and there were lots of stars out. It was a little cooler yesterday and while it didn't quite feel like fall, it wasn't bad.
I started this post earlier today and then my sister texted to let us know that our cousin had passed away. She was 52 years old. It has certainly been a rough couple of days. I am glad I got out for a run today though. It really helps.
