18.09 back from summer vacation. Bumped pinky toe (again) on a rock. Might have broken it this time. Or at least thoroughly dislocated. Oh yeah, and the nail is off again. Yeah, this toe takes some beating.
23.09 1.2km 8:20min/km 9min
total 1.2km
Just wanted to see whether running is possible. My pinkie toe still looks like a rainbow, but as long as I'm careful I'm able to run.5 -
@quilteryoyo Even though your run/hike didn’t go as you might have planned, it sounds like it was really quite an adventure and did sound like a lot if fun! It’s so cool you saw someone doing a 50 day AT attempt too!
@ContraryMaryMary It’s understandable and sounds very reasonable that you are sitting the 24 hour race out, but I understand that you are bummed. Good luck healing up before the HM.
@martaindale You guys doing runs in the US seem to always have such nice feasts and treats afterwards ! It sounds awesome! And your race sounded like a lot if fun. Over here it’s like, oh, you finished a marathon, well here are your apple and banana slices and we’ll get all fancy and give you an alcohol free beer to wash it down with .
@Scott6255 I think thunder and lightening is a valid reason to choose the treadmill .
Today was a rest day, but I had the extra time still that I would have otherwise used running. So instead of working extra hours, I opted to take a walk on one of my running routes. It was really nice to be able to look at the scenery in slower motion and appreciate how nice and green everything is. I walked 5.4km.
Tomorrow I have a short tempo run planned. So far husband + 1 kid are sick, another kid was kind of sick, but seems to have dodged the worst symptoms. It is something respiratory related… Just hoping I can make it to Sunday without picking it up myself….7 -

The plan called for a 10K race or simulated race today instead of the usual long, slow, easy run. Since I didn't have a race planned this weekend, I did the workout Hal prescribed. It called for a warm up, then 4x100 meter intervals, then 6.2 miles at10K pace and then a cooldown. I did add a little to the warm up and cool down to get 10 miles instead of 8.2 (I have other goals besides this half in November), but other than that I tried to stick to the workout. It was nice when I started out, and getting warm by the end, but I think that had as much to do with running hard instead of running easy. Overall it was a nice run, and I felt good about it afterwards. I did order some new shoes. They should be here Wednesday.
I added to this draft yesterday and thought I had posted it, but I did not. At least the bulk of the post was saved. So I am adding today's run to the post and I 'll try to remember what I added yesterday evening.
I ran 3.3 misty miles today. It wasn't really raining, but it was definitely wet. I am not one to enjoy running in the rain that much, so I found it a bit annoying, but it was 63° so that was nice.
@warmjellyfish congrats on your 50K.
Sounds like a great race @Martaindale and I love the medal!
@tarun_yadavA You should definitely go for the 2024!
@quilteryoyo I'm glad what started out as a disappointing day turned out to be such a lovey hike. And how awesome that you got to meet Michael Wardian. I'm glad your shins are better today too.
@ContraryMaryMary I hate that you had to bail on the 24 hour run, but you are making the smart decisions. I hope your hips are much better in time for the half.
@yirara Sorry about the toe!
@laurz9191 Fingers crossed that you stay healthy!

37.23/50 miles for September8 -
Nice rainy run @Teresa502 . I looked up the HM you are doing and it sounds like a great one. But, I will be leaving for FL on the 11th and doing the T-Minus 10 miler on the 14....probably shouldn't try to do both. I'm sure you will love it.
Glad your test run went well @yirara . I hope you don't hit it again.
Thanks @Laurz9191 . It was fun. Sounds like a great walk and glad you are still symptom free. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Thanks @kgirlhart . Nice runs on your part. I love how you modified your plan. Sorry about the rain, but glad the temps were okay.
I hope your foot is okay and you enjoy the 5K this weekend @daria0919 .

I went to the gym this morning and got another PR for the deadlift - 100 pounds.
After I got home, I did a short run on the driveway. I only had 30 min to run so that I could cool off and make it to lunch with mom and a friend. I wasn't trying to run fast, so was pleased that the Avg pace was 13:24 min/mile. Avg HR was 131 with a max of 149 bpm.8 -
Morning all
Got in 8.08M at 10"20.
@quilteryoyo thank you! 😊
@ContraryMaryMary sorry to read all that 😞
And sorry you couldn't do that race8 -
Wow, I didn't realize but it has been a week since I ran outside Got in 7 miles this morning. Training plan called for a progression run, so after a 5 min warm up, just run 30 min easy, then 10 minutes hard, finish with a cool down. Thought it would be cooler than lower 70s, but it wasn't all that bad. But I was more tired than I should have been.

Hi everyone!
I completed an 8.2km run this morning, with 4x 5minute tempo intervals. Everything went well and the weather was nice. My throat hurt a bit this morning, but I was ok running and I feel pretty ok now. We'll see.... Tomorrow's run involves some short sprints and then it will be all short and easy runs on out till Sunday .

I had intended to do my long run today, but I wasn't feeling the best and my legs felt like jelly, so I just did a wun this morning. It was 75F/23.9C and 99% humidity, so that was enough.7 -

I ran 6 miles this morning. It was a nice morning. It was 65°F and felt pretty good. It wasn't raining, but I did see some lightning. I checked my weather app and it showed to be about 25 miles south of me and not moving my way so I continued my run.

@kgirlhart Nice run. Glad the storm stayed away. We are having a lot of rain and storms here, so will probably be doing TM runs the rest of the week.
Sorry your run was not good @tarun_yadavA . I'm sure you are glad you did it once you were done.3 -
Hi Everyone,
My run went well this morning and I really enjoyed being out. The running conditions were ideal and it rained a lot last night and this morning too, but not until I had finished my run. Can't complain about that! I ran 9.2km including 10x 0:25 second sprints.
246.2/270km for September.
@quilteryoyo 99% humidity? That doesn't sound like it could be any fun!6 -

Long run today… not sure why Garmin has arbitrarily decided to make this mid-week now instead of Sunday, so it was tricky fitting in 50 minutes before my weekly yoga class (timely for post-run stretching, though) so I had to cut the cool down 5mins off! I decided to run without music, and was pleased to get an identical 5k time as yesterday’s PB as well as a 1 & 2 mile PB.My PR’s:
1k: 6:39
1m: 10:59 (previous 11:06)
2m: 22:30 (previous 22:46)
5k: 35:36
Longest run/walk - 5.33mi/8.57k
Longest run - 4.63mi/7.44k7 -
@Laurz9191 I have run some races that are more of the here's your banana variety, but you're right, our races don't tend to be minimalist. I think it's at least partially due to the sheer volume of races available. If you have tons of options, people will pick the one with a cool medal or a beautiful location or a good post race party. It seems almost every race has a gimmick. For my 50 states races I also actively seek out races that are unique and seem to capture something special about the state. It's part of the fun of traveling for them!
Hopefully the sore throat is just taper week stuff and you feel fine tomorrow.4 -

First post race run. I went out for a walk yesterday and felt fine. My legs were totally fine. I took the race easy but still wasn't sure how long the fatigue might last since I hadn't done a run longer than 10 miles since May. But, my legs felt pretty fresh and no weird niggles, so I'm good to go!
Also went for a massage yesterday which was much needed. I'm back to work today, but at least it's a short week for me!7 -
My total for the month 137 of 150km goal. Will blow past that by this weekend.
Now that my big run is over, I'm floating around looking for another challenge.
What do y'all do after running say, a marathon? Sign up for another one?
@martaindale nice you got in a massage. I should do the same.
@AmunahSki yea I hated it when Garmin decides that my long run is in the middle of the week instead of the weekend like I had specified. It must be programmed to irk us.
4 -
Sounds like a great run @Laurz9191 .
Congrats on your amazing run @AmunahSki ! I wonder if you can google it and find a way to set your long run back to the weekend?
@martaindale Glad your run went well today and recovery from your race was quick.
@WarmJellyfish Great running. Signing up for another race is always a good thing to do.

We're having a year's worth of rain this week. Not really complaining, but I do wish it was spread out a bit instead of all in one week. Schools are closed tomorrow due to the potential/probability of flooding.
I did go to the gym this morning. Nothing real exciting. It was arm and leg day - no lifting.
After I got home and procrastinated a bit, I did a treadmill run. Today, I did 0.5 mile warm up and cool down at 3.8 mph, and a run/walk of 0.3/0.1 mile at 4.5-5.0/4.0 mph. The wun resulted in an average pace of 13:11 min/mile. Avg HR was 137 with a max of 157 bpm. It felt pretty easy.5 -
Hope you don't get too flooded @quilteryoyo (and others in the path of the hurricane). My brother is just south of Atlanta and he said they are expecting 8" or more of rain.5

Today I will buy running shoes so I can join in on this thread for October.11
-
Oh @KarinSanden that isn't a requirement, but if you insist you can send them to 4455 South....oh wait. You meant for you. Sorry, my bad 😜
Welcome to the group!8 -
Hi everyone!
This morning, I got in an easy 5km run and some run form drills. It was dark, dreary, and rainy out, with some slug piles. So, just your stereotypical German fall day. I am still feeling good, kids are all back to good health, so I will knock on wood now and say that Sunday is on . I'm heading to Berlin tomorrow.
@martaindale I forgot that we do have the salami race in December . No bananas or apples there. But that makes sense that people could be more enticed to sign up if there are cooler snacks. The obstacle course run I ran in last month gives you color coded bracelets depending on how many times you've run it before and there was also gummy bears and tons of activities for kids, so that was a much more fun (but also much more expensive) experience.
251,2/270km for September.

Thanks @Scott6255 . We've already had over 5 inches of rain and it's supposed to rain all day today and tonight. It's a lot, but fortunately, it seems to be heavy only in spurts (with easy rain in between), so that it has time to soak in/run off before the next heavy hits.
You must have had work today @tarun_yadavA . Great job getting out there. All is okay, so far. Winds hit tonight, so may have some trees down and power outages. I hope not, but will be prepared.
Welcome @KarinSanden . If you weren't planning on it, I would suggest going to a shoe store that specializes in running that can fit you for the correct shoe. You can still come on here an comment, if you like. Welcome to the group. You'll love it.
@Laurz9191 Glad that you have escaped the crud. Have a safe trip and enjoy your race! Looking forward to hearing all about it. I had forgotten about your salami race.
