stopped at Walmart to pick up a roasted chicken for the stray cats. They had a ton of them marked half price- $2 each!!! We grabbed 10(there were still more left)- boning them out and will freeze in quart size bags. Plenty for the cats and for me to use in meals for us.
Almost time for aqua- looking forward to it as it is still 90 degrees. Will be at 13,500 steps before I even get in the pool- I will get there early to do a few laps before class starts then enjoy a few more after, unless they tell us to get out. Last two times I was the last one in the pool.
Tomorrow I have a merchandising job to do at Kohl's- setting up an umbrella display. Dh is helping so it shouldn't take too long- He has set these up many times at his store over the years. Pay is $50 and should only take an hour or so-

Kay - I have the same problem with my dark clothes. I’ve tried everything and don’t know how to get rid of it.
Heather - I hope your arm heals fast.
Allie - What a beautiful photo.
Hugs what a difficult thing to do.
Lisa - your description of what you don’t want in a slipper reminds me of my favourite pair ever. My grandfather bought them for me, they were the Peter Pan boot style so popular in the 80’s, but they snapped up the side so you can have them up over the ankles or down around the ankles. They were made of cotton of some kind and had a thin rubber tread. I loved those slippers I think I even had them after I was married for a bit.
It isn’t even 9pm and I could go to bed. I’m not, I know that would have me awake way too early tomorrow.

My last aqua zumba and it was just the teacher and I again- it would have been great for the teacher to have a full class but, because it was just us, she got in the pool too. It was a lot more fun for her and easier on her knees than on the cement pool side.
Swam 20 min. before class but none after because the lifeguard was giving us the eye- we were the very last ones in the pool and he couldn't go inside until we got out.
Hit 20,000 "steps" just now.

Aches and pains slightly improved today with the blue skies reappearing. I'm encouraging John to go to the local cricket ground, but I don't know if he will. I have a couple of Spanish films recorded that I want to watch in peace. They haven't been able to play cricket for the first two days of a four day game.
I read for 90 mins in the night, but did go back to sleep eventually. It was a chilly night, with the clear skies. It's been horribly rainy, and a lot of the country has had floods. OK here. I know it's been awful in some parts of the US.
The NHS invited both of us for flu and covid jabs. My appointment is in just over a week. In a local pharmacy that I can walk to! I know I will feel c..p for a day after, but it's worth it. John's covid in June was like a cold, and I didn't catch it at all. Amazing! My friend G blames her auto immune illness on it, but I don't know. I think it was severe stress from a family breakup. So, I'm going for it/them.
Egg sandwiches for lunch and the pasta bake tonight. I will use wholegrain spelt pasta.

Yeah! He's going to the cricket! I've made and packed an egg sandwich for him.

Gratitudes:
Friday-energy to clean the oven hood and do two of the declutter challenges before breakfast ;}
Thursday-Best white fleshed peach this year. Later, withstood temptation of cronuts and/or burgers, for salad and chicken rigatoni at home. Healthier and thriftier.
Mo, thank you very much. Your prayers are appreciated.
Lanette hooray for return of sense of smell. Glad it was to smell something good
Heather, whew! Well done on the writing, research and return to exercise machines. You are an inspiration.
Annie I’m likewise glad to have your friendship. While some of your friends may be on cruises, some here are in similar care-giving situations as you are. ((hugs))
Debbie congratulations for no mortgage or car payments. Great accomplishment!
Sue ((hugs)) Good for you to be willing to talk to your sis with the counselor present.
Lisa ah fall. Welcome cooler weather with unwelcome joint effects. Brava on the yoga, trust it will help. Good for the VA, fingers X’d the transition goes smoothly. the sock savers!
Michele I’ve always used powder detergent and have no trouble with residue in my top loader. I AM having trouble finding my preferred brand/flavor (Arm and Hammer, fragrance free) powder in any of the stores here. Will check Walmart in Coos Bay next time I’m there.
Speaking of having trouble finding things, what is it with the oranges? Not an organic orange to be found, and the non-organic ones are getting scarce…
Machka really like the Energy meme. So true!
Kay con VERY gratulations on your two day re-commitment streak. Well done!
Rita so glad the new NP caught her error before you picked up those pills! And that your 80 yo uncle has inspired you to get back to walking. Well done!
Barbie ((hugs)) for Jake, for his daughter and her son, and for you. ((hugs))
Beth what you said about how crazy and confusing Medicare and its various plans are. I don’t trust the advantage plans, fear they are too profit-driven to consistently provide needed care. Joe has a low deductible plan G for his Part B supplement, I have a high deductible Plan F. ABCDgoldfish?
Allie (((gentlest hugs held extra long )))
Rebecca well done on the refund and brava for donating blood. Lesson learned tho’ ;{
Decluttering challenge Day 22/30 Craft Space, 23/30 Scary Storage Space22-picked just one drawer, in the OMG-craft closet. Never going to finish the knitted Christmas stocking started when we lived in the Bay Area twenty-five plus years ago. Into the donate box for all the blue. Red into trash. Still looking for the set of knitting-in-the-round needles. Put all the various scotch tapes into the now emptied drawer,
making the hooks, glues, nails and screws drawer a teensy bit easier to access.
23-The scariest storage space is on the floor in my study. Picked up one pile of papers from back in fire district board days. Quick sort found a pile of duplicates that could be recycled.
Remainder back in the pile for another day. No burnout, thanks Cas!
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Morning, my chickens...
Tracey - Oooo, that's a really good idea, with the flap that drops down or comes further up the calf. Hmmm. 🤔👀 Stop it! No more ideas! 😹 Much like Corey and I have been "shopping the freezer" for September, I'm trying to "shop the stash" for a while and stay my narrowing behind out of the fabric stores... *sigh* I love Joann and Hobby Lobby, I really do. 🥰 And it broke my heart when Walmart here stopped having fabric by the bolt, just precut, tidily wrapped fabric pieces with many fewer choices.
Heather - I just have this vision of you shooing John out the door, "No, darling, really, I'll be fine, just go, have a lovely time." You shut the door, see the bag with the food, open it again and throw it down the walk after him, "Here are your sandwiches!" After you've slammed the door once more, you sink against it smiling, looking forward to eating spicy food and watching your shows. 🥰
Barbara - So pleased for you that you are continuing the month of decluttering--how do you feel about all of it? Are you looking at your stuff a little differently? And how does Joe feel about all this? I ask, because Corey's starting to give me side-eye pretty much every time I pick up something and look at it speculatively. 👀🤪
Carol - I was looking at the Coro jewelry, and so much of it is just beautiful! Perhaps you could sell it as one lot? Looking at prices online, you could probably get a tidy sum. Then again, if it gives you pleasure to look at it, you should keep it! Pleased for you on the decluttering as well. You've talked about it for quite some time, is it helping you feel better about your home?
Corey's up and got his first cup of coffee in hand, I'll be ferrying a few cups in there for the next couple hours. Egg was curled up snoring beside me when he got up, didn't even acknowledge his presence when he staggered through for his first cup! 😹🐈⬛
After we're both sorted out this morning, we'll be going to look at washers. Took me eight different tries of rebooting, and shifting and getting soaked up to the elbows moving clothes around in a washer drum full of cold water yesterday to get three loads of wash done. Nothing helps, so it's time. I've pretty well settled on another GE, pretty basic, but they're still blinking expensive. With new hoses, installation and taking away the old one, it's going to be more than $600. Oh well. 🤷🏻♀️ Got to be done. Oh, and after y'all's input and reading reviews, going with an old-fashioned agitator top-loader. I don't like the front loaders, lots of reasons, and the impellers, honestly, get some pretty sketchy reviews. Only the one had the ability to take the agitator out for large loads, and it didn't get good reviews either.
We'll see what we can find. Tired of fighting with this washer, for sure.
Your moment of zen Egg kitty for the morning. She won't sleep in an actual cat bed, but really likes the hassock I keep in the craft room:
Later,
Love y'all!

Barbara - my local Walmart website shows organic oranges $5.97 for a 3# bag. No idea if they are in good shape. I'll take a peek next time I'm in the store.
Debbie - wow that's a good deal on rotisserie chicken. I see they are $5.97 hot and $3.97 chilled at my Walmart, which isn't too bad. It's great you are able to get a lot of swimming in and it's cooled down enough to enjoy your walks in the wetlands.
Heather - glad to hear Johnny is off to cricket and you get some "Heather time" to watch your films.
Lisa - LOVE your craft room. It has to be very satisfying and peaceful to walk in there and not be distracted by disorganization. I'm speaking from experience here. I get a little sense of that when the house is all picked up and counters cleared in preparation for Collette to do her thing. Enjoy the washer shopping, it will be great to have something reliable.
Allie - adorable baby photo! You are such a good grandmother to take care of Selina's arrangements.
Barbie - very glad Jake was able to find transport for his angiogram. Rural communities need to prioritize medical transport in addition to bus service. Jake can't be the only person running into this problem. My county theoretically has this kind of transport for doctor's appointments in far away cities or even shopping. Some day when I'm totally bored I should book a ride and see how well it works.
I decided to get myself a new 8" skillet, which means a skillet declutter coming up. Years ago I bought a set of Green+life non-stick (I believe they must be ceramic?) that are now showing teensy chips and aren't as non-stick as they once were. I'm also thinking about donating my large cast iron skillet. So heavy and needs to be re-seasoned. I used it a lot to make fried potatoes when DH was here and we both had hearty appetites. Now it's time for someone else to enjoy it.
Hope everyone in Hurricane Helene's path is doing OK.
Make it a super weekend, ladies.

Poor John got to the cricket ground and the outfield was too wet to play. They said they would start after an early lunch, and I can see they have just started. I think John went for a wander, as it's still a lovely day.
I had my favourite steel cut oats with salt and butter. And a rind of Parmesan. Prepped the pasta and spinach. Washed the hall floor around the front door (filthy) and hoovered the rug. Then I watched my Almodovar, and realised I had seen it before. Still liked it though. I feel so at home in his world. I have another one recorded to watch another time.
Yes, Lisa, what a joy it is to spend time exactly as I like it. Funny food and all. I can't do things downstairs because he's writing every morning. In the dining room. Grrrr! He's just finished the first draft of his 8th book. I admire his persistence, but it limits my time to potter.
Allie - You are doing brilliantly. We had our baby's ashes buried in the cemetery and her name and a message in the Book of Remembrance.
It looks as if my brother will not have to have chemo after all. He has finished his 6 weeks radiotherapy and should be feeling a bit better in a few weeks. I expect he will be over the moon to get rid of the feeding tube. That first beer will taste good!
Love Heather UK xxxxxx4 -
Good morning beautiful ladies!
Heather sounds like your brother is doing better! Excellent!
Lanette Yay for the return of your sense of smell!
Rita that's scary about the new NP. What a mess in the records! But Yay for your walking!
Barbie how frustrating to have the driver plans fall apart. Glad you made them work out.
Beth so glad your mom is doing better!
Allie hugs and condolences.
Barbara thanks! You are right. One of my caregiver friends said her helper was selling her Mom's drugs out of her house! Could be so much worse. I have a helper that I really trust.
Lisa I need to do some yoga too. I'm getting creaky! Hope the new washer is better.
I got lost on the Internet this morning and missed my walk! Oh well there's a chance of rain anyway
Have a great day ladies! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Lanette I inherited my cast iron skillet with a cover from my mom. I use it to cook steak in it and spaghetti sauce like my mom did minus the added sugar. For everyday I use a Delarlo stainless steel I bought to replace my Faberware. I use the smaller size at least once a day. I bought a smaller and larger size. I have to use coconut oil to keep foods from sticking. Both small and large have glass covers. Love both of them.3

Lanette, Jake has the names and contact info for three people locally who can drive him to medical appointments out of town, but he wanted to ride with someone he knew. There is a woman on the list who lives in our neighborhood. She put a notice on the bulletin board in the clubhouse about it and someone wrote a positive note about her service. Yet when his friend told him that you don't want to talk politics with her and then she was the featured "neighbor" in the park newsletter and talked about her religion, Jake decided that he didn't want to ride with her. I told him that his friend who said don't talk politics to her is a woman who leads all her conversations with some political comment so naturally she'd get political comments in return and that the person who does the park newsletter has a tendency to encourage religious talk in the interview. I told him that a woman who is willing to help others for as long as she has been doing it, will know to stay away from religion and politics (just like us) so he called her and she'll be the back up if he has to stay in the hospital overnight.
Heather, How great that you had a day alone for your personal food and TV. I'm looking forward to that on Monday when Jake goes to the hospital.
Barbara, Have you tried Amazon for the laundry detergent you like?
Yes, Medicare is confusing. We went to an insurance agent in our town who specializes in helping choose the right plan. I had a Medicare Advantage plan at first until I was looking at major surgery and then changed to regular Medicare with a supplement. When you're healthy and rarely see a doctor, it seems like a lot of money to spend, but when I see the Medicare explanation for all of Jake's doctor and hospital activities, I am grateful that we have the insurance we have.
We changed our grocery delivery to today instead of Sunday because we needed an ingredient for something Jake wanted to make. I will probably be confused about what day it is for several days.
Yesterday Annie chewed through another leash so we went to Petco to buy more leashes and got lunch at the drive through at Taco Bell---chicken tostada salad, my favorite.

Margaret - I have my grandmother's Griswold #3 cast iron "egg" skillet. It has a 5 inch base and holds one egg perfectly. I think she gave it to us when we were married so I've had it nearly 50 years, and she probably got it in the 40's. I bet she didn't want it anymore because Teflon was the rage, lol. I love that I never have to wash it, just wipe it out. Your mom's cast iron skillet sounds like a real a treasure.
Barbie - I'm sure you're right. Someone who drives others places on a regular basis knows how to curtail controversial conversations, especially when the passenger can already be stressed about the upcoming appointment. There are a lot of fun and interesting neutral topics to chat about - dogs, cats, container gardening and Sasquatch to name a few.
I also have a Medicare supplement and I'll be curious to see what the rates look like next year. I see WA state finally has high-deductible plans. I switched from F to G to N over the years keep costs down and so far with the few co-pays in the N plan, I'm still way ahead.
Michele - I just saw an announcement that western North Carolina is a mess, a dam is threatening to burst, and Ashville is having major flooding problems. How are things at your house? Has Jess been impacted? Crossing fingers that you and your property are all OK.
Heather - having to navigate around someone else being in the house who didn't want to be interrupted is the main reason I can never see myself getting married again. Living with someone else is hard work and not sure if I'd have the energy or temperament for it at my age.

Dinner yesterday was Orange Roughy, string bean salad, and shredded potatoes made into patties that neither of us cared for. Walked 3 miles again this morning before breakfast and marked out a second path to take. I now know of 3 different 3 mile walks. I have 2 more ideas to try, but these are up steep hills. Maybe once I get accustomed to 3 miles a day. Finished yesterday at 10,393 steps!

check the chickens when you are there- the one here often marks them down, not usually $2 but most of the time $3 which is a great price for a already cooked chicken and they are a nice size and taste great.
I made just over a quart of really reduced broth- drank the extra that wouldn't fit in the quart. It was nice to have after getting back from swimming.
I will do the rest of the chicken today when we get back home.
