Looks like everyone is having a good time getting miles in. Good job all.
Did a short 4k yesterday just to test/loosen up the legs. It's still a bit stiff. Maybe I should take it easy for a few days. Not.
Ok I'm signing up for a 20miler on the Winter Solstice. It will be icy, snowy and brrrrr. I just hope its not -15F kinda brrr.

I'm in Palm Beach for work and I could not bring myself to go outside and run this morning. It is very windy (we were under a tornado watch earlier) but so warm and humid. Currently 89F with a real feel of 101F. This Virginia girl is not used to this stuff! So, I went to the gym and used the elliptical for 30 minutes. Hopefully, our flight home tomorrow (through Atlanta) will not be delayed. One of my co-workers left this morning and he has experienced delays all day.
I hope you have safe travels to Berlin @Laurz9191 and I wish you the best of luck with your marathon on Sunday!
@Scott6255 - That's a brutal workout!6 -
Wow @Scott6255 ! That is amazing! You did great!
Yes, @WarmJellyfish . You should take it easy for a few days! Congrats on signing up for that 20 miler. That's a bit too cold for me....what am I saying. That's a LOT too cold for me!
@Teresa502 I hope you make it home safely and in a timely manner tomorrow. I don't blame you for going to the gym rather than running outdoors this morning. Those are brutal conditions.5 -

67.40/70 mile goal
I braved the rain and went to the gym this morning. It was hard to get up and out the door. Today I did bench press plus other exercises. I'm so weak with the bench press....but that is why I go. To get stronger.
I also got another Styku scan today. I was a bit disappointed that my body shape hasn't changed very much, but I have lost 8 pounds since I started the first of April. It says I lost one inch in my waist (smallest point), but only 0.1 inch in the abdominal area. I also lost 1.3 inches in my hip area and my bone mass percentage went up 1.9%. Overall, it is going in the right direction, so plan to keep it up and see how it goes.
I did the planned drill workout today on the treadmill. I walked 0.5 miles for warm up and 0.52 miles for cool down - to even out my monthly mileage. For the workout, I did a run walk of 4.5/4.0 mph for 1/1 min for 10 min. Then I did 4 x (run 30s/walk 30s at 7/4 mph), walked a little extra and then 4 x (run/walk 30 s at 6.0/4.0). I did 10 min at 5.0/4.0mph for 1/1 min each. I was really surprised at how slow 6.0 mph felt after running at 7.0 mph. If I could just do that for more than 30 seconds at a time!
Today was my "me day." I haven't taken many of those even though my goal was for once a month. After I ran and showered, I took my lawn chair out on the porch, sat and read a book while listening to the rain "sing" in the trees and on the metal roof. Tippy enjoyed chilling beside of me.
We've had 6.14 inches of rain so far in the last three days and more coming tonight. I figured I'd might as well enjoy it.7 -

I didn't post yesterday. It was my cousin's funeral and a 2.5 hour drive there. It was a nice service and it was really good seeing all the family that was gathered, but it was a very long day. The funeral was in the afternoon though, so I was able to run in the morning. Since I didn't go to work I got out about 8:15 and ran before I drove. It was a perfect morning for running. It was cool at 66°F. The sun was shining, but it wasn't hot and there was a light breeze. Since it wasn't dark I ran to the cemetery and then the park. I saw the dog I've been seeing there. She ran with me for about 2 miles or so. She is so cute. She found an acorn and was tossing it around to herself like a ball. I feel like she has a home. She is too sweet to be a stray.
I was pretty tired and did not want to get up this morning. But the weather was perfect. It was 57°F. My plan called for a tempo run. I'm not sure I hit all the paces, but I think I did ok. And I made the effort which is what I think is important. When I finished the workout I was at 3.66 miles and not quite home. When I got to the house I was at 3.85, so I had to loop past my house to get to 4 miles. I just can't end a run at .85 miles.
I hit my September goal today and my new shoes came in. I ordered the exact same pair as last time.

Forgot to post yesterday’s run. I went to my neighborhood trail again. I haven’t used it much in a while and am remembering how much I like it. I saw my trail friend both days and we got caught up. I had planned a short run this morning, and it would have been a beautiful morning for it but my husband is out of town so I had to get the kid ready for school. That ate up the time I would have spent running. But, I opened up the windows so my cats and I could at least enjoy the cooler weather a little.

@WarmJellyfish Always be signing up for races!! The one you chose sounds like a unique experience. I love the cold but I don’t know if I could handle that. I would definitely have to buy some new clothes. Nothing I own could come close to being appropriate for those conditions.
@quilteryoyo Glad to see you take a day for yourself. You are amazingly busy and I’m sure it does your soul some good to relax a little. I hope the flooding isn’t too bad for you and @Teresa502. Hurricanes are so unpredictable.5 -
@Teresa502 trust you'll have a safe trip home! Gyms are awesome.
@quilteryoyo me days are important! Learnt something new today about the Styku scan. There is one here! Going to check them out.
@tarun_yadavA nice job on the pace
@kgirlhart thats a cute doggie! Good job on the tempo. Yea there are some days when I don't feel like but I still dragged myself out the door.
@martaindale trails are fun! I get a lot of outdoor clothing from thrift stores. I figured those are better for being sweaty than a brand new item.
It's friday! I got my 5 min calisthenic workout in. Plan for a 5k tempo run later today.
I'm going backpacking to a cute little lake this weekend. Squeezing in as many trips as I can before winter comes.

25.09 Concert, dancing like crazy
27.09 3.3km 7:40min/km 25min

So was in Amsterdam for a concert the day before yesterday and danced like crazy. Walked through Amsterdam that day and yesterday. Ran again today, and it went very well! Went a bit too fast but it was ok.7 -
@kgirlhart I'm again sorry about your cousin. I'm glad you were able to get in a couple of good runs. That dog looks sweet and sounds like a hoot. I hope she has a home. Love the shoes and the side by side with the new and the old.
You did great today @tarun_yadavA . I did enjoy my day. Thanks. I had forgotten about the thumb-tucking. My thumbs are tucked too @Laurz9191 .
Nice run yesterday @martaindale . Sorry you missed running today, but the window open sounds wonderful. A couple hours of reading a book did do me good.
@WarmJellyfish That looks like a wonderful place for a weekend camping trip. Enjoy. Where do you live? I'm sure you have said, but I've forgotten.
@yirara Sounds like you enjoyed Amsterdam and got plenty of exercise. Nice run today.
I didn't get any damage, from the rain and wind, but a lot of the area's near here are devastated with flooding. Hot Springs NC, Newport TN, and Erwin TN (where I went hiking last week) to name a few. Hospital patients had to be airlifted from a hospital in Erwin. Part of Interstate 40 from NC to TN was washed away. A bridge on the way to Erwin was washed away. It's sad to see and going to be a long time before some of those major roads will be usable again.
I haven't heard anything about damage in VA, where @Teresa502 lives, so I hope she is okay and made it home safely.
After running some errands today, I was tired and, to be frank, just wasn't in the mood to get sweaty, so I walked 1.25 miles on the treadmill to keep my streak going.

I didn't get up easy this morning, but it was perfect running weather at 59°F, and I had new shoes, so I finally got out the door and ran 6 miles. It was a great run. I don't know if it was the weather, the shoes, or the fact that I was short on time, but I was pretty speedy this morning. I didn't have perfect negative splits, but my first mile was the slowest and the sixth mile was the fastest. And my average pace was 10:30 which is about a minute faster than my usual easy pace.
Thanks @quilteryoyo! I'm glad you took a day for you. You do so much for others.
Good luck with your race @laurz9191!

Hi everyone!
Thanks for all the good luck wishes. My heat starts tomorrow at 10:10 German time and I’m number 31360 if anyone wants to follow me . I hope to be done before 15 by sure. The weather forecast looks very nice for running. Today I did a 2 mile shakeout run and am now just trying to stay relaxed until tomorrows.
It took me well over an hour of cuing yesterday to get my start number. I’m happy I didn’t have to deal with the masses today and can relax more.

TMISo, a few things needed to fall off of my plate over the last month. My mother's dementia has really turned my world around. There are days that I have meltdowns and I have to depend on God and the routine of making it through the valley. Previously, I was able to take the trash off or go to the grocery while she napped. Now, I have to have a sitter to watch her. My internet time is one of the things that had to change. I am still around and I still fly by and read a bit here.
TLDR: I am still here
I am setting up next month, since I already had the template ready.9 -
Sorry you are having to go through that with your mom @AlphaHowls 😞
My SIL called me just after I got home from work yesterday. My brother was checking the leak in the roof after the hurricane passed, and the ladder slipped and he fell to the concrete. An ambulance came to take him to the hospital since he was in so much pain. After hours of waiting he finally got a CT and he broke his hip and 2 ribs. None of the pain meds were helping, and he just went into surgery about an hour ago.
I ran 11 miles this morning because he couldn't. I was supposed to go to Atlanta in about 2 weeks for a race with him, but I think it will turn into a consoling visit.
10 -
Yikes @Scott6255, I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he is ok.
Happy Berlin Marathon Day @Laurz9191. Run well and have fun!2 -
@AlphaHowls sorry to hear about your mom - I’m glad you’re still getting your runs in. ((hugs))
@Scott6255 oh my! I hope your brother does well in surgery and recovery is relatively quick.3 -
So sorry to hear your mom's getting worse @AlphaHowls. Take care of yourself and thanks for setting up October.
@Scott6255 A broken hip is a serious injury! I'm so glad your brother is ok and hope his recovery goes well.
Woohoo @Laurz9191!! You got this!!4 -

Sending you a big hug @AlphaHowls.
@Scott6255. So sorry about your brothers fall. I hope he gets better soon.3 -
Oh my goodness!!!
That hurricane was CRAZY. and quite an unusual path. Glad everyone is doing ok.
Scott, that is horrific about your brother. I hope post surgery his pain is relieved but those broken ribs (I assume on the back the way he fell) will probably make recovery so much harder. I am learning to try to avoid "ladders" the older I get. Too easy to lose my balance.
Oh no @AlphaHowls it is REALLY rough. I hope you can come up with a plan for a better solution. My brother and I took care of my mother with dementia for 4 years after my Dad passed away and it is unbelievable difficult. We had caretakers coming in 24/7 (hired by the week on my Dad's insurance vs hourly) . We tried a nursing home but were horrified at the "care" and how callous they seem to become.
A pretty good running month. The weather has finally turned to where the air feels less heavy and we have mornings in the 60's. i am at 146 out of whatever for the month which will be the most miles of any month to date but really in order to match last year I am trying to get ahead because last Oct was a 200 mile month ... LOL
What's interesting to me on my runs when the air seems less humid is the smells. Actually horrid. I can smell a smoker in a car that drives by. Or the many skunks which seems to have been annoyed. Or the fumes from the trucks. Or even my neighbor down the block with his morning cigars. Even the smell of laundry coming from houses is too cloying.5 -
Thanks @kgirlhart . Glad you had a nice speedy run in your new shoes!
@tarun_yadavA Thanks for sharing the clip on the Berlin. It looks like a great race. You had an excellent speedy run today! Yes, that is where we had brunch. There are a couple of pictures of Hot Springs I found from yesterday under the spoiler.
@daria0919 Great race and glad your ankle held out. When I glanced at your post, I thought the frozen peas were the "bling" from the race.
@Laurz9191 I'm glad you got your bib yesterday and a great little shake out run today. I look forward to hearing about your awesome race! You're going to kill it!
@AlphaHowls I'm so sorry your mom is getting worse. I understand social media being one of the things you are cutting down on. Thanks so much for setting up next month for us.
I'm so sorry to hear about your brother @Scott6255 . I hope the surgery went/goes well and helps with the pain he's in. Ladders can be so dangerous. Great run for him this morning.
I'm glad you made it home with little delay @Teresa502 . That's a long time to be without power. I hope you get power sooner than that. We have power, but they turned off the water for all of Greeneville today...I'm not sure for how long, because the pumping stations are all under water. I get mine from a different area, so I still have water. We were lucky on this side of the county. AND, the dam they thought might break is now deemed as safe. Had it breached, it would have been so much worse. I feel so bad for all of those who lost everything they have and so many bridges and roads have been compromised or totally destroyed that lots of people are isolated and can't get water/food.
@SummerSkier Great running for the month, and year! It is interesting that you smell things more intensely when the air is less humid.

70.00/70 mile goal
I played singles tennis this morning with a friend. I won 6-1, 7-5. She is the one who had knee surgery in the spring and is just getting back into playing. We had fun and some really good rallies.
I didn't have time for my run after I got home before leaving to go with mom to my neighbor's 95th birthday party! I ate enough sweets for the year, or at least the month. I had homemade ice cream, strawberry cobbler, coconut cake (half a small piece), and a brownie with caramel sauce. I don't know why I do that. I mean, I love those things and they were good, but I am not really a sweet eater. I just let myself go. LOL
After I got home, I went out for a driveway wun. With all that on my stomach, I was surprised that the running felt okay. I just did enough to meet my goal for the month. Anything after this is icing on the cake.4
