It was cool this morning!!! 62 f. I had to work so just a short one in the dark this morning.
I'm not going to make my goal this month or my yearly goal. I'd need 139 miles a month at this point. While not impossible, it's improbable and I'm just going to train like I would normally. I'll hit it if I hit it.5 -
Morning all.
Got in 4.36M at 10"12.
I'm sorry so many of us are having a sh*tty time. 😞
@Scott6255 sorry about your brother and his injury. I'm sure you going will cheer him up.
@AlphaHowls so sorry about your mother and your general mental well-being/toll it's taken on you.
@quilteryoyo that's so sad. I reached out to my Asheville buddy. I didn't hear back from him for over 24 hours. They had to evacuate. He's in the Biltmore side of Asheville and he sent some pics. Totay flooded. Had no power or electricity . Joked he had to dig a hole in his back garden to take a *kitten*! He's gone to Atlanta.
(Meanwhile... Those desserts you listed though... 😋)
@ContraryMaryMary saw you got a longer run in! Hopefully you're feeling better!
Wow. All on you @Laurz9191 to cheer everyone up with your Marathon! 😊
I'm off to Manchester (about 3.5 /4 hours up north). Friend got a corporate freebie to watch Manchester Utd Vs Spurs. Don't care for either. But will attack the free beer.
My weekend hasnt been great. My brother is over from SF (he brought his 4 year old along too 'to spend time with cousins'). He had a wedding - that's why he came. So everyone's been at my mum's in Essex. First night was fun. Had a few beers, sis and mum had a couple of drinks too. That was fun. Progressively turned into a sh*tshow. Let's just say the 4 year old is a total brat. Feral. Rude. My brother's approach to parenting is very 'San Francisco' and to be 'liked'. Anyways. Diplomatic incident. The whole minefield that is disciplining somebody else's kids thing. kinda ruined weekend. My mum super upset. Glad I went back home (solo) late last night (cos I had to get up super early). Glad I'm at the football drinking beer. Wife's gonna be a treat too "your family this, your family that", "I can't even get you to visit mine" blah blah blah. So glad I avoided the drive home

The footage from Helene is incredible. No matter how many storms you go through the images of all the flooding and damage are overwhelming every time. I'm glad to hear the dam they thought was going to fail is going to hold. I hope you get power back before the prediction @Teresa502 and the weather stays cool enough so y'all are comfortable while you're waiting. It's lucky you are on a different water source @quilteryoyo. I find the lack of running water more burdensome than no electricity.
@tarun_yadavA Family dynamics can be tough sometimes. One of my brothers has a kid that i would probably have described as feral when he was younger. Happy to report he's a more normal kid these days. I think kindergarten was a major factor. Hope your nephew gets tamer with time too.6 -

My run on 25th gave me my first (running) blister, on my big toe joint. I think I need trainers with a wider toe box, as mine are just too narrow there. Not great timing because my travel/work on Thursday (North Yorkshire) and Friday (London) meant long days with lots of walking in the rain wearing high-heel boots and/or shoes (yeah, I know… vanity rather than sanity!). I wore my trainers when I could (on the train/tube), but the soles of my feet sure took a pounding.
I reluctantly decided to skip my Friday run so as to have enough energy to teach on Saturday (ski boots are tight and heavy at the best of times) which was the right decision but left me feeling sad (that’s the first scheduled run I have missed in 15 weeks!).
My feet were still sore this morning and I just couldn’t face wearing the narrow trainers again, so I decided to do my 40 minute run in my barefoot shoes for the first time (I have only walked in them so far). It gave me a good excuse to run nice and slow, and just concentrate on being springy and light. I really, really enjoyed the run! A great way to finish the month!

The weather was perfect this morning and I really enjoyed my long run. It was 59°F when I started out. I ran 10 miles and it was 74°F when I got home. It felt really good. I saw the dog at the cemetery again. She ran around there with me and then followed me to the park. I saw three other dogs in the cemetery walking with their owner and I thought she might decide to go with them, but she didn't. She headed home from the park though and didn't follow me anymore, so I was glad. I wouldn't want her to get too far away from home.
@quilteryoyo That flooding is awful. I'm glad you are ok and glad @Teresa502 is safe as well.
@alphahowls I'm sorry your mom is not well. I know that's so hard.
@scott6255 I hope your brother recovers quickly.
Great job on the Berlin Marathon @laurz9191!

Nice weather and run @martaindale .
@tarun_yadavA I'm glad your friend in Ashville is okay and was able to get out of town. I know all the major roads in and out were/are closed. So sorry the visit with your brother went so badly. Dealing with kids and parents are hard. Trust me. I know being in daycare. I know it's worse when it's family though. Hugs. Glad you had the football as a distraction.
Nice run @yirara .
@AmunahSki Sorry about the blister. Even though it was hard, you did make the right call about missing the run. I'm glad your run today went well in your "barefoot" shoes.
Great running @kgirlhart . It sounds like you have a permanent running partner in the cemetery. That's sweet.
I just did my normal mile walk after church and before lunch today. Nothing exciting.
After church, mom and I did decide to drive down to see how the river looked, now that it has receded and the dam is safe. We never made it to where we could see the river. We got to where the river had been up and the mud was so deep still, even though they are trying to get it scrapped away, that it wasn't safe. This was about a quarter of a mile from the river and you could see where the water had been at least 2 feet about the top of my car! Unbelievable!
Also, I was mistaken when I thought I got my water from a different source. Apparently, my water district, as do almost all of the districts in the county, purchases it's water from Greeneville, so almost all of the entire county is going to be without water, including me. What happened yesterday was that they turned off the pumps from the water processing plant, so that they were no longer pumping into the system. But, there was enough in, I guess tanks, to last for 24 hours or so, under normal usage. They closed all restaurants in town, hoping to save water and make it last longer, but, I have heard they are now out and all we have is what is in the lines and once that is gone, it's gone until they can get emergency pumps and system up and running....which they are hoping will be one week.
I am fortunate, because mom has a well and I can go there to get water when I need it. But, it is still going to be an ordeal. I know those who don't have access to well water are going to be in and even worse situation. I just hope that the week estimate is accurate and we can get that part of our lives back to normal soon.

@AlphaHowls I'm so sorry your mom is getting worse. My prayers go out for you and your family.
@Scott6255 my prayers are for you and your family as well as I hope all is well with your brother.
My prayers for those of you who are dealing with this hurricane. Praying all will be well with you and your families.
Team, I achieved my 50-mile goal today with 7 miles. I conquered 53 miles this month with one more day to go. Additionally , I accomplished my goal of run/walking 10 hours this month. Next month, I’m going to shoot for 55 miles. Just a slight increase from the past two months.
Everyone, enjoy the rest of your Sunday.7 -

Thank you! I have shoes now and today I'll give them a try. I don't plan to run long distances but a few shorter a week. My CrossFit Centre is 3,1 km from my home and I usually walk there and home. Now I plan to run instead. First part of the distance, then 1 and if possible both.
I have an injury in my knee so I have to start carefully and slow, but I run some 800m intervals at the WODs so I'll just start with running something like 1 km.

Oh @KarinSanden that isn't a requirement, but if you insist you can send them to 4455 South....oh wait. You meant for you. Sorry, my bad 😜
Welcome to the group!
Haha, I can send them to you when I'm done with them.6 -

Aiming for all 30/30 days in September. That'd take consecutive streak to 84... And then, hopefully cross the Hundred mark in Oct.
Also... I'm on 1362.9 miles for the Year-to-date.
With two-thirds of the year now complete, for me to complete 2000, I would need to be on 1333.3 miles. I'm above that.
Conscious that I'm away over Xmas/NYE in Costa Rica... So Im gonna lose upto a couple of weeks there. I want to be at or very close to 1900 at the end of November.
Hi all. Got in 4.52M at 10'14.
191.9 for the month
Asheville is awful. I was there in March. So sad. My friends wife posted this.

Hi everyone!
Wow, such many bad things are going on in the one day I didn’t read my posts!
@Scott6255 I’m really sorry to hear about your brother. It sounds line he got hurt pretty bad! I’m glad it wasn’t worse!
@AlphaHowls I am sorry to hear that you are having to navigate even more challenges in caring for your mother. I completely understand you might have to re-prioritise inessentials like media use.
That hurricane did soooo much damage! I am very sorry to read about how much was destroyed. Fingers crossed that they get the water situation @quilteryoyo figured out soon!
@tarun_yadavA I am sorry to hear that your visit went so poorly. But hey, at least you are now out of the situation! I hope the next time you all get together that things go smoother!5 -
So, I actually wanted to talk a little about the marathon yesterday. I don’t think I could have ever imagined what it feels like to run with 50,000 people before! I am sure @tarun_yadavA could because of his location on the London marathon course, but my last two marathons had 300 and 3,000 participants respectively. So I think it was a great experience and am so great full that I was there, but I do appreciate smaller events where crowds and waiting are not an issue.
My race report is long, so I’m putting it in the spoiler. The weather was perfect for running but I slowly froze in the wait in the corral despite having brought extra clothes to toss. The first ca. 3km my toes were frozen but after they eventually thawed out my body temperature felt perfect, right up until the end.
I aimed for splits under 30 minutes every 5km and that was really easy to keep track of without looking a lot at my watch. I really made myself run conservatively in the first half and I felt it paid off in the second half when I started getting fatigued. It was also harder to run in the second half as the course was still full of runners and now some of them were walking right in the middle of the street, plus the mental fatigue of running sooooo long. I saw some interesting/inspiring things while running, like the pineapple man, someone running in flip flops (who passed me!), blind runners who had to be guided on such a full course, and someone I smelled before I passed who didn’t make it to a bathroom in time - but was still running!
I was hoping to speed up more the final 10km but I started feeling a bit queezy and didn’t want to have to throw up, so I just tried to lock in at the 6min/km pace and speed up in the final kms. I wanted to get finished under 4:13, which I did. My final time was 4:12:46.
My previous PB from the spring was 4:19, so I do feel that I am slowly working my way towards sub-4 territory. I hope to do my next marathon between sub 4:05-4:10 in Hannover in the spring. But for now recovery followed by speed building is the plan .

Nice run. Minor meh though: I should have run 200m more Broken toe obviously still hurts, but running for some reason works.5 -

173 or 150km for the month. Let's see if I can do 7km today to hit 180km 😁
My weekend was spent fastpacking 10km each way into a nice little locale.
For some reason I can't upload photos....

Fantastic job on the marathon @Laurz9191!!
Great month @tarun_yadavA!
Sorry to hear about the water related issues and flooding issues @quilteryoyo and @Teresa502 as a result of Helene. Asheville is such a beautiful town @tarun_yadavA! My husband’s best friend lives there.
We still have rain today and tomorrow here, but central Virginia was spared the worst of it.
Went to my doctor this morning regarding my tendon issue. Confirmed that I have PTTD (posterior tibial tendon dysfunction). Plan is to wear a brace when I’m not doing my walk/jogs, set up physical therapy and see an ankle/foot orthopedic specialist. I want to save my foot from complete collapse, so early intervention is best. My doctor (who is also an avid runner at age 65) has understood over the years the importance of my need to run, so she’s always helped me deal with my various injuries. For now my doctor says it’s still ok to continue training for my mid November Richmond race as long as I keep icing and wearing the brace the rest of the time. Waiting for calls from the PT place and Ortho specialists office to set up appointments.
@Scott6255 how’s your brother doing?

My September miles: 43.33
On to October….5 -
@Laurz9191 you did so great in your marathon! So amazing you got your PB! 👏👏💪
Thanks everyone for the nice thoughts for my brother. He had a 3 hour surgery Saturday morning that apparently went well. He passed the mobility tests Sunday morning. But the hospital was so busy they didn't release him until this afternoon. He is still in a lot of pain, but hoping to find some meds that will work.
I didn't get out for a run today, but did a 3 mile TM run yesterday. So closing out September with 117.5 miles. I quit my training plan. Will just run for fun until I know more if I am going to run in 2 weeks or not. See you all in October ❣️7 -
You did great @steviebee888 ! And, 7 miles yesterday is amazing!
@KarinSanden Sounds like a sound plan. We need a picture of your new shoes - it's called shoe porn around these parts.
Great running today and for the month @tarun_yadavA ! The actual Biltmore grounds didn't get flooded, did it? I really haven't heard, but figure that would have made the news if it did (or the mansion). It is very sad at all of the damage in this entire area! Other small towns in NC were pretty much wiped off the map.
You did amazingly well @laurz9191 ! You don't even look tired in the photo with the medal. Congrats on that PR and I have no doubt that you can get another PR next time!
Nice running @yirara . I'm glad that your broken toe isn't really hindering your running.
@daria0919 Nice running. I'm so glad that you are getting your tendon issue taken care of early and that you can still run and train for your race. It's always nice to have a doctor that understands running and doesn't try to tell you to stop it. Also glad you didn't get much damage from the hurricane remnants.
@Scott6255 I'm glad your brother's surgery went well and that he's home. I hope he can find the right thing to help with the pain. Nice mileage for the month.5 -
@Laurz9191 Congrats on your shiny new PR!! You did great!3

75.25/70 mile goal
Exceeded my goal this month. First time in a while.
I did go to the gym this morning. I got a new PR for the deadlift - at 105 pounds. Afterwards, I stopped by my Aunt's, who had broken her hip a few months back, to check on her. I couldn't get her on the phone last night - a system outage. She was doing well and has neighbor's who are going to help her get water to flush. We visited about an hour.
When I got home, I did my planned Magic Half Mile workout on the driveway. 10 min warm up (walked a little over 6 min and wun the rest), run/walk 2.5 miles, half mile fast (pushing the pace, but not sprinting - like I could sprint for half a mile :l), 10 min cool down - walked that entire time. I was pleased with the run. Avg pace was 13:11 min/mile. Avg HR was 139 with a max of 166 bpm. My half mile took 5:04 minutes for a 10:08 min/mile pace. That's my fastest half mile since I started Strava. I think I may have run a mile a bit faster a couple of years ago on the TM, but this probably was my fastest outdoors and part of it was uphill.
I talked to a neighbor after the run and he informed me that they were distributing water at the local volunteer fire department. A friend of mine, who lives in NC, had asked me to try to get some for her mom, who isn't really able to get out of her house much. So, I did my good deed and got her 2 cases of water and mom and I took them to her. She's like my second mom, as her daughter and I were together all the time when we were in HS. We had a lovely visit.
I still have water at my house, but the water pressure is getting low. I managed a quick, low water shower today....wet, turn off water, suds up, turn water on and rinse. All in all, I'm very blessed.

I had a long run planned for today because I didn't do my long run this weekend but Garmin suggested an interval run. I haven't done speed work in several months, the weather was decent, and I knew I wasn't making my goal this month so I went for the speed workout. My paces for the first couple of repeats were wonky but the last 5 were decent. It always takes me a few weeks of workouts to remember what the paces feel like. It felt good to push harder. Garmin only gave me a completion score of 67% but I think a lot of that was due to the recovery intervals. They were only a minute long and my watch always thought my pace was too fast even though I basically shuffling. So, overall I think the workout went better than Garmin seemed to think it did.

161.65/140 miles completed for September
It was 58°F this morning. The weather has been really nice the last few days. I was just going to run a 3 mile run this morning, but I miscalculated my route and ended up running 4 miles. It was a really nice run. I saw a fox. That finishes September with 161.6 miles. I thought that might be my highest mileage month ever, but when I looked back I see that my highest month ever was September 2023 with 161.9 miles. So it was pretty close. Congratulations to all who made their goals and all who tried hard. Hopefully October will be a better month. See you all in the October thread.
