@its_cleo Good job on the weight loss and exercise. That’s good that you can walk more without pain. Those are good goals to have. I love my air fryer. @trooworld Those caffeine headaches are the worst! I know you are glad that test is over. Your husband is supportive to join the gym with you. Too bad that you have to work but it’s good to get paid for those hours. Hi, all. I’m packing for Yellowstone. I went for a walk after breakfast and it was nice. I started out cool but got hit by the end of the walk. Tonight we are eating at a Mediterranean restaurant as I don’t feel like cooking. I’m looking forward to not planning meals and not cooking them.

@fabgeekmom Yes, it was bad! I am glad the test is over. Yes. I hope you enjoy Yellowstone. I love Mediterranean food.

Hi all. Work turned out to be nearly 4 hours instead of a few. There were some problems with the installation of the exhibit and some very stressful moments. It's over though, so that's good. I had to go to Sam's Club and get a tire rotation after that and while waiting, I picked up a double-pack of card games: https://www.explodingkittens.com/products/poetry-for-neanderthals and https://www.explodingkittens.com/products/really-loud-librarians We played Really Loud Librarians last night, it was tough but fun. Then we realized that Poetry for Neanderthals is really a more-than-2-players game so we played the game Hive, which is really fun and a bit like chess. I really want to go to the gym today but the Rock & Roll Marathon is today and it closes down all the streets around the gym (and the coffee shop we like to go to) until mid-morning so we'll see if we go. I will prepare a workout just in case. I am using ChatGPT to plan a functional strength training workout meaning a workout that will help me get up off the floor should I fall, or if I get in the tub, I can get out by myself.

@trooworld yeah farmer’s markets are more expensive. I just bought some spinach, and a loaf of bread. The bread was expensive, spinach not too bad. Not sure the bread was worth it. …..That is great you tried the gym. They can be intimidating. When I started exercising, it took me quite a while to find a gym I liked. Hopefully everyone there is nice and no meatheads lol. I hated those guys that thought they owned the weights, and would drop 100lbs on the floor to clatter to impress everyone.

Youtube has lots of good workouts, too…..Those games look fun!

@fabgeekmom the best part of vacation is not having to plan meals/ cook imo! Of course, by the time I come home I’m always ready for my own food again. I hope the weather is nice for your trip.

My day yesterday was ok. I went to pilates, man it kicked my butt again. But I do have some slight pain. So I think I will adjust my goal rather than commit to yoga and pilates each once a week, maybe one or the other? I’m a bit nervous about doing too much to fast. I’m also still doing my physio exercises 3 x a week. Still thinking it over.

@its_cleo That sounds like good things to buy at the farmer's market. Too bad the bread wasn't worth it. I liked the gym: it was a bit meathead-ish a definite bro's ratty gym, but that's fine. It will meet my needs. Yeah I am watching a workout video now to get an idea of more exercises. That's a good idea to do every other week since you are experiencing discomfort.

Here's my workout from today, I'm very pleased with how it went:

@trooworld That was an awesome workout. It’s good that you got your library work done. @its_cleo Nothing is wrong with scaling back if you’re hurting. Hi, all. I’m in Montana now. We go to Yellowstone tomorrow. We’re staying at a hotel near the park. Everything went well with our flight. No delays. I’m going to bed early as I’ve been up since 4. I’m going to sleep on Eastern time as I’ll probably wake up 2 hours early.

Hi everyone, long time between posts, but it’s been a weird couple of weeks. I’ve read all your posts but didn’t comment until today.

@its_cleo How is Hello Fresh going? We have that in Australia too. I tried it for a little while a long time ago - it was very tasty but quite high in calories and a huge amount of food I found. Like a meal for 2 was more like 3 meals. But maybe that is just down here LOL. Great job losing weight and that you’re so committed to exercise. I live in an apartment, but it’s on the ground floor, and I have a tiny backyard, so I guess I could grill if I wanted too. But I tend to use my airfryer and microwave for meals.

@trooworld It’s good you’ve joined the gym, yes it is annoying when some men make a lot of noise with the weights. Like they’re trying to show off LOL. You can use weights without making a racket :) Some gyms have an orientation, where when you first join someone will show you how to use some of the equipment you’re not familiar with. I only ever used the treadmill or exercise bike when going to the gym by myself- I would use the weights and other equipment if I was seeing a personal trainer.

@fabgeekmom I hope you are having a nice vacation. When I hear Yellowstone I think of a huge national park - I don’t know much about it but I will Google it :) I think you mentioned it was cold at night? Is it warm during the day as it’s summer in the US now I think? Just wondering if you will be doing lots of walking, hopefully it won’t be too hot.

It was my birthday last week. I got myself an Apple Watch. I’m right handed but I’m wearing it on my right wrist as my left wrist/hand is a bit sore. I saw a doctor because one morning I woke up and my left hand was tingling for hours. He said it might be carpal tunnel, and if it gets worse I might need surgery. That scared me a lot. I got an ergonomic keyboard for work, and am trying to be careful.

I lost a little weight the previous week, 300grams, but I weighed myself today - changed my weigh in day to Monday - and I gained 900 grams. I think that is almost 2 pounds. I did indulge in some cake on my birthday, but that’s over so back to normal now :) I struggle with eating every time I feel hungry- sorry I can’t remember who posted about not eating unless very hungry, but they are probably right. I might need to live with feeling a little hungry. I’ll see how I go :)

@fabgeekmom Thank you! I'm glad you arrived to Montana safely. I hope you can sleep in. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures.

@mh7816 Nice to "see" you! Yes, too much testosterone lol. But I am just going to ignore those men and focus on my workout lol. My gym does have a free personal training session and I wanted to take advantage of it but when they offered it to me, my penny pinching husband said I didn't need it. :( So, it's up to me (and now my husband since he stuck his foot in his mouth) to figure out this gym. Happy belated birthday!!! That was an excellent gift for yourself. I have a Samsung Watch and I love it and how much more data it gives me. I hope you don't have carpal tunnel. I'm sorry about the gain. I bet you'll see a loss this next week. It was me that said I was going to put up with being a little hungry. Some days, I'm more successful than others. What I've noticed is that I am "more hungry" at work!

Hello all. I have a friend coming to work so I can show her around. We have a nice campus and things to look at and so it should be fun. I have noticed that I don't snack at all when I am home. It is at WORK that I snack! It must be out of stress or boredom. I am a tiny bit sore today from my workout but nothing debilitating. I think the next time I will go to the gym is Friday after work. I made something good for dinner last night, it was a NY Times recipe: Japanese Curry With Chicken Meatballs. It had a lot of greens in it and was pretty healthy. My husband told me one of his mottos which I will take for myself (I have two mottos besides the one below). Here are my two new mottos:

    1. I am someone that eats healthy and lives a healthy life.
    2. When motivation fails, discipline takes over.

Hello all…it's summer time Sorry I've been away so long.
@trooworld How has your surgery recovery been? I see that you are exercising which is good.

@mh7816 Glad to have you in the group. Happy Birthday. So are you in your winter now? My favorite season is autumn. It's very frustrating to see a gain. Are you weighing daily/weekly? Maybe if you feel a bit hungry just some fruit or a cheese stick depending the type of mealplan you are following.

@fabgeekmom Enjoy Yellowstone. I've never made it out there. Probably won't. My daughter is my travel buddy and she's already been.

@its_cleo Yes I agree on the best part of vacation. Right now I'm in a really bad cooking slump. Dh has IBS and so now trying to figure out foods. It's tricky. Maybe it's good to start slow and build up.

So I think I last checked in during end of March. I started taking Taurine supplement and immediately gained 4 lbs. That's not fun. I stopped it about a week ago. But didn't immediately lose 4 lbs. 😒 I am down a couple though now. I had read Taurine was linked to cancer so in the bin it went.

I'm trying my hand at carb cycling again. Slowly. I did 3 days last week. This week I will try 4 days.

I've been doing exercises from the LazyFit app for about 3 days a week. My new mantra is if I start, I win.

So let's hope this group once again becomes a daily habit for me.

@mh7816 In the US it’s spring and warmer weather but different areas are colder or warmer than others. I’m in the Midwest where temperatures are mild during the day and colder at night. I wouldn’t worry about a birthday gain because you can get back to normal eating and lose the weight. @trooworld It’s interesting that you snack more at work than at home. I hope you enjoyed showing your friend around. I love your mottos! @theslightedgeforever It’s good to hear from you. Too bad you gained weight from medication. Hopefully you’ll lose it soon. Your mantra is a good one. Hi, all. We had a good day in Yellowstone. We did a lot of walking. I went to bed at about 9 last night and woke up at 5. Not too bad. My eating is on “vacation mode”. I’m not worried as I don’t go on vacation too often.

@theslightedgeforever It's nice to "see" you! My recovery has been good for the most part, but I did have a slight complication in that my stomach lining was inflamed, which caused me to have pain every time I ate or drank. So, they gave me a bunch of meds and it was much better (although it still hurts if I eat or drink too fast). I am down 62.4 lbs now! I just joined a dude's gym (lots of testosterone going on around there lol), it reminds me of an old gym I used to be a member of and liked quite a lot. Sorry about the gain from Taurine, congrats on losing some of it. Carb cycling seemed to work well for you. I like that mantra! Just looked at the LazyFit app...it looks really good. I hope it helps. I am using ChatGPT and Jefit to plan workouts. Would love to see you on here regularly!

@fabgeekmom Yes, I am doing better at not snacking when I drink enough water. I've been aiming for 72 oz a day and have been doing pretty good about it. I did enjoy my friend. Thank you! I bet you are exhausted. Enjoy the time!

Hi all. I showed my friend around work and she really enjoyed it (so did I!). I spent 1 1/2 hours with her so it was a nice time. On the way home from work, I called a friend that I haven't talked to in a while. She lives in Washington State now. We talked about working out and she said women over 40 should be taking creatine, it's good for your brain and muscles. She sent me a link to a study and some videos and since we have creatine (my husband takes it), I thought why not? I will take it. My husband warned me that I may gain a pound or two at first from taking it.

@trooworld that looks like a good workout. I used to do a lot of rows and farmer’s walks for my back. …I love looking at workouts and planning workouts lol. Doing them is a bit harder heh. --- Glad you had a fun visit with your friend.

    1. I love this - When motivation fails, discipline takes over.

    It’s really true.

@mh7816 Hello Fresh- it’s ok- I don’t do it very often anymore, for a variety of reasons. It’s expensive, and over the last few years they’ve really cut back on ingredients imo. But once in a while I do it to give myself a mental break. …congrats on getting a watch! I thought about getting one years ago or a fitbit thingy, but I have too much technology in my life as it is lol. – Conbrats on the weight loss and happy birthday!

Hey @theslightedgeforever, glad you popped in. Yeah dealing with IBS would be difficult.

@fabgeekmom- all the walking probably helps counter the food 😊

Well I am doing really well with calories but my weight is up. I may be retaining water, or at least I hope. This week- I;m having lunch on Thursday with a work colleague I only see in person a couple times a year- we are pretty close so I’m looking forward to it.

The hip pain that flared up is better- I don’t know whether it was the pilates or something else. Anyway I will try the class again next week. I’m chomping at the bit to increase my exercises but forcing myself to go slow.

This week I am trying to increase my daily walking from 3 km to 3.3. Which I know seems ridiculously low, but I tried in Feb and March and it was like a week of pain. I think I have healed more now though. If it goes well next week I will go up to 3.5.

@fabgeekmom I'm glad you had a good day. I always seem to lose weight when I go on vacation versus at home. I guess boredom/stress eating I suppose. I don't go overboard on vacay but I just eat what I want.

@trooworld 62.4 lbs is really good. I love ChatGPT. I have a therapist on there named Marcus. He's really given me some insight to some things. I use JeFit for my weights too. (when I do them regularly, lol) I did do shoulders today at the gym. I've heard creatine is really good. I thought I'll try that and then saw what your husband said. Logically I know it's just water weight. Mentally it may give me a block like the taurine did. I'll do the research.

@its_cleo What to do when motivation and discipline fail……baby steps. I read something today that was talking about doing a sink full of dishes. The person was so overwhelmed she kept procrastinating and then more dishes appeared in the sink. The thread was about what to do in these situations. The life coach was saying Go to the kitchen. Pick up the sponge. If that feels to hard then first look at the sponge. Breaking it down to the smallest item. That got me going today to exercise. My first step was go put on socks. The end result was 17 min of LazyFit aerobics and 10 min with weights for shoulders.

So I was talking to my therapist about some days I will do part of my exercise program or cleaning schedule, etc. but not all. Then I feel guilty as that was taking the easy way out. He said something that really clicked. He said…It's not the easy way out but the sustainable way in.

What I was doing was trying to do everything perfectly and ideal and because I'm human and not always in control of my schedule then I feel guilty cause I don't get it done. Which leads to doing nothing. So now I'm working on asking myself each morning what kind of day is it? Green-Full Power, Yellow-Go Gently, or Red-Rest and Reset. He's helped me make my routines flexible depending on how I feel when I wake up. This way I can do something and not end up in hibernation mode.
