Jules, you may be fat, but you’ll never be disgusting. Your next goal is to be in the fat & beautiful 260’s. Isn’t it?

Hello Bonnie. Welcome to MY 100 POUND JOURNEY. Sounds like you get enough exercise walking your dogs. 🐕 You never know, you may be surprised at how great you feel when you reach 200 and decide to stay there.

"I spoke with my mom this week who has been on Ozempic for about a year now (mind you she doesn’t work out AT ALL) and she was telling me that she has almost lost 60lbs now on it- which is great, I’m glad it’s working for her! Am I a little jealous she has the miracle drug that makes you lose significant weight with no work? Absolutely!! But she then went on to tell me “Can you believe I started at 260? Ugh EW I can’t believe I was ever that fat and disgusting!!!!” It just felt like a punch in the gut because I’m sitting there currently 20lbs OVER her ‘fat & disgusting’ weight and that’s AFTER I’ve already lost 37lbs. Ugh I guess this rant is just to get that convo off my chest because it’s been bothering me since I’ve had it. As most fat people I’ve struggled with poor body image and it definitely doesn’t help when it gets perpetuated by your own mother. I don’t think she meant any harm-I honestly don’t think she realizes I’m bigger than that but it just sucks 😕 So all that to say- I’m hoping to work hard this week, pull some big numbers & my next goal is to be in the ‘fat & disgusting’ 260s."
Personally, I wouldn't have been so forgiving of such a comment !!! "Fat-shaming" has no place in our society !!! That said, I don't believe in "Fat-privilege" either (example: IMHO, if you can't keep your entire self in one seat on an airplane, then make sure you ask for special accommodations with the airline in advance, even if you need to buy a second seat! I felt this way at 286 lbs, and still do at 202 lbs.) If folks are never made aware of how their comments can - inadvertently? - be hurtful for another person on their own weight-loss/wellness journey, then he/she will never "think before they open their mouths". As a daughter, you can afford to be more understanding… but I pity any other friend of your mothers' or a stranger she comes in contact with! I think we've all been in a place where such a comment has "ruined us" for the day, or perhaps led us to binge eat, as a result !!!😥 I'd also remind her that Ozempic is not a "cure-all" for obesity… w/o a wellness program of proper eating and basic fitness in place, she'll most probably gain all that weight back and then some, if she ever decides to go off the drug! (And researchers really don't know yet what the long-term effects of being on the drug does to the body)?😕

Declan, nice name. I never heard it before, so I did research on it: Declan is a popular Irish name meaning “full of goodness.” Are you Irish? ☘️Congrats on your 5 lb weight loss last week. 👏

How do we “join” the group?? Will it show up on our dashboard?

You're welcome Cindy. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. Any more questions? Don't hesitate to ask.

Don't worry Brian. You're doing GREAT! This weight loss journey has its ups and downs. It's normal. You must know that by now.
200.8 is a good place to be, in my books. I'd stay there, if I were you. 😀 👍

Ooof. I can certainly sympathise.
I grew up with a lot of body-shaming. I only confronted my dad about it when I was 40, and he said "Well, the reason I called you fat or ugly was for your own good, because I was worried about your health".
I told him that every time he body-shamed me, I went straight to the fridge, or the biscuit tin, etc. I wasn't even that big! I was definitely a chubby teenager, but maybe only 25-30lbs over what I should have been. He knows now that he is not allowed to comment on my body, as does my mum.I'm seeing them next weekend though, and I know they'll make probably make a few small comments at the same time as offering me cake, so I can't win.
Also, being ill did not help with the weight loss this week. I stayed the same weight, haha. But, still under 300lbs, so that's good with me :)4 -
Being so close to One-derland must feel amazing. Your journey is really inspiring, and I'm in awe of your 7 hours of exercise!

BODY WEIGHT SET POINT
Some scientists think that your body has a set point weight and your metabolism, hormones and brain will adjust to maintain that weight. People may have naturally higher or lower set weights than others; their set points can be impacted by genetics, aging, history of weight loss and hormonal shifts. The theory suggests that your set point weight can rise but rarely lower. It is easier to maintain your set point weight because your body wants to remain at that point – not lose weight.Your set point weight is the weight range at which you can easily maintain your body weight. This range is typically a 5-10 pound weight range that it’s effortless to maintain your weight.
Your set point weight is the weight your body is supposed to be at when you stop obsessing over food and exercise.
Maybe it’s not the weight you *think* you should be (based on what unrealistic media standards tell you), but it’s definitely one that’s more realistic for your body. One that doesn’t require you to micromanage every single thing you eat with strict rules and timing, measuring portion sizes, and skipping ice cream dates with your kids.
If you’ve experienced this, that weight is probably your set point weight.
Can your set point weight change?
Your set point weight will not stay the same your whole life. It’s normal for it to shift over your lifespan as you enter into different seasons of life.
Set point weight is influenced by many factors such as genetics, lifestyle, environment, etc.
Genetics is a factor that cannot be changed, but must be considered when it comes to your health. Our body size, build, and shape comes from our genetics and is simply out of your control.
Unfortunately, it is a factor that is not accepted well in society today and why we see many people begin their diet journey. Our biological blueprint is what we are born with and where our bodies will thrive and function the way it needs to.
Many people find it challenging to accept where their weight may lie. Remember, health can be achieved at any size – us dietitians wish MORE people actually understood that statement! You may attempt to diet, eat as few calories as possible, deprive yourself of food to look “thinner” and influence the number on the scale. Not only is this getting you further from your set point weight, but can lead to negative effects long term to your physical and mental health.

The most difficult thing I'm dealing with is this: The heavier I was, the easier it was to lose significant weight a month (average at least 10 lbs). Now, 14 months later, the process is SO SLOW (like 3-5 lbs a month, if I'm lucky). My body just wants to "continually plateau". I've just been doing cardio (spinning on stationary bike at home). I was doing 14 hours a week… but I put the bike on the last setting (#8) having worked myself through all the lower ones, so now my strength has gone down. I have a rower but have yet to "psych myself into using it" (mental problem!)🙄 I know I'd lose the weight faster now if / when I started lifting weights!🙄🙄

Hey everyone!! Hope yall are doing great! I know I am! God is good and I lost a little over a pound. I should’ve lost more but it’s been a really stressful week. I’ve been sick with a sinus infection and my sleep has been horrible. But I’m hoping for better sleep because I’m starting to feel better. I’m counting calories and I was wondering if you all do what MyFitnessPal puts you at or do you go lower than they say? I started intermittent fasting and I loved it. It made me not as hungry but lately, I could eat the house down..lol
I hope you all do well with your health and losing weight. Praying for a good rest of the week. Yall are doing great!! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Cindy. Congrats on your 1 lb weight loss. 👏“To improve sleep with a sinus infection, try sleeping with your head elevated, & using a humidifier.”
When counting calories on MFP, I sometimes go a little higher, but only go lower when I’m sick. 🤮

Today’s weigh in-
starting weight: 317.6
current weight: 277.4
I’ve officially lost over 40lbs! Ahh!! I feel like these past 10 pounds have been a struggle for me. I was really worried this might have not been a good week for me-I ate alright but I missed one day at the gym because I forgot my tennis shoes at home. But I’m over the 40lb lost mark yay!!! I have a reward for myself (a new pair of shoes I really want) at the 50 lb mark so I am hoping that really motivates me for the weeks to come.
Also I really appreciate all the support on my last post regarding my mom’s fat shaming comments. It really does help to have a community backing you up when you have struggles 🙏

Congratulations!!! I know you’ve feel alot better. Oh I can’t wait to lose 40 pounds. I’m new on here so I don’t know your story. Are you counting calories, carbs, etc?
I pray you can get those next 10 off so you can get your shoes. I need to make some rewards/goals to encourage myself. Keep on keeping on!!

Thank you!!
The main things I have done that I think have contributed to to my weight loss so far are:- Counting calories: The saying, “you can’t outwork a bad diet!” Is soooo true. I try to stick to consuming 1500 calories or less a day. I am very good about tracking meals in this app because it really opens your eyes to how much you can easily consume in a day. For me, I used to LOVE a sweet treat so a Dairy Queen run was not out of the ordinary; however, after meticulously tracking calories, the desire for these sweet treats have definitely decreased because they are just SO MANY CALORIES (1000+! sometimes). I still will have some sweets for special occasions like birthdays but I just try to have a smaller portion. That’s why I like the low calorie diet because I can still enjoy the foods I love but it’s all about moderation. I still go out to my favorite restaurants but I try to look for the healthier options on the menu. Veggies have very low calories so it’s a great way to fill yourself up! I try opting for salads a lot more, I just also have to stay mindful not to use too much dressing.
- Water: For the first couple months I only drank water. No alcohol. No soda. No energy drinks. Just water. I still primarily only drink water, but I definitely have a sugar free redbull every now and then or a cocktail on a date night. This goes back to calorie counting but it is crazy how easy it is to drink a ton of calories!! In my opinion, this is one of the easiest ways to cut out a TON of calories in your daily life. Ordering water vs drinks when going out helps you get in your daily water intake, saves you $$, and it’s 0 calories. Win win win.
- Increased activity: I used to live a very sedentary lifestyle because I work an office job. Now I make it a priority to go to the gym after work 3x a week minimum. At the gym I do around 30 minutes of cardio, 3.5 miles on the elliptical. I know this might sound daunting- because when I first started it definitely was and I have worked my way up. Start with smaller goals like 1 mile and once that gets easy, go up to 2 miles, and once that gets easy shoot for a 5k, etc. As someone who does not like the gym, getting myself to go has been a mindset shift- I tell myself that I am going because I love myself and I want to feel better and I want to lose weight. After the workouts I take pictures of the workout summary on the machine and it makes me feel proud of myself to scroll back through all those photos. It only takes 18 days to start a habit, so if you have to force yourself through the first couple weeks, it’ll become habit overtime and you won’t even think twice about going it’ll just become ritual. Your body will also release endorphins after your workout and it will literally make you a happier person to do this for yourself! Outside of the gym, I try to go on walks more often or just do things to move my body more. Once you start seeing a physical difference in yourself, you don’t want to stop!
Really what it boils down to is you have to WANT this for yourself. Prioritize yourself and how you want to feel better. Nobody but yourself can do the work for you. You are in charge of what goes in your body and what you do with your body. Having a community like this app is also a huge help because it can help you stay accountable! Start posting weekly weigh in’s and see your progress over time. I guarantee if you stick with whatever plan feels right for you, you will be happy with the results. Even if the scale doesn’t always reflect the number you want every week, just try to be mindful of HOW YOU FEEL! If you feel better now than what you started at than this is all worth it! Good luck on your weight loss journey (it really is a journey) my friend, you got this! 💪

Hi everyone. My name is Nori and I am starting my weight loss journey once again hoping it will stick this time. I have lost and gained the same 10 lbs repeatedly over the last year. I will do well and then just lose all motivation….sort of a self sabotage. I have around 130 lbs to lose. I am starting to have a lot of joint and mobility issues and need to get this turned around as I am approaching sixty in 2026. I haven’t joined a group in my fitness pal before but look forward to any encouragement I can give and/or receive. Look forward to hearing from you.
