You don't believe people starve?
Starvation mode and starvation are not one in the same.
They are the same thing. Starvation mode is just the early signs/process of starvation.
Actually it's not. Starvation is a medical condition in which the body is lacking enough sustenance to stay alive. A person in starvation mode could only die from the symptoms not the condition itself.
Starvation is going without enough food to fuel the body in any length of time. Starvation mode is something that may or may not occur over a long period of time.
Starvation mode causes the body to store what you do consume as fat to save for later. Starvation, the body has next to nothing to hold onto because said person is not consuming anything.
(Before you get all uppity, I said may or may not because not everyone gets adverse affects from starvation mode.)
I believe starvation mode is real but I also believe people don't understand it at all.0 -
Starvation mode is greatly overused and misunderstood. All it really means is the metabolism is slowing down to compensate for fewer calories it does NOT mean one is starving. But meh, to each their own.0
-
Also, I struggle to understand how this thread spiralled from thoughts about the overweight exercising to being a war about diets. This website is really bizarre like that, lol0

I have been that woman, too.0

You are an idiot. That's that. I've been to multiple doctors and nutritionists who understand how the human body works.
You do not. At all.
You will see. That's that.
WOW now we are name calling, that's just awesome : ). and doctors do not all feel the same. They have different beliefs and it does not make them right, but it doesn't make them wrong. Each believe their own thing, just like us. You have faith in your doctors, that's awesome, but I have faith in mine, they just happen to believe differently than you and yours.
I appreciate you calling me names though, shows who you really are and your real motives...
This post was about this woman struggling to walk and me knowing how she feels because I was there once and I never want to go back to that person. It was about me feeling her pain, her struggle. But thanks to a few of you, you've ruined a feel good moment and a sad one, Thank you all very much.
I don't have a problem defending my actions, but I have a problem with name calling......shame, shame, shame, on you0 -

I applaude you for your courage to post. It seems to me that people on here are more concerned with you daily calorie intake rather than the reason you posted in the first place. Your daily goal is 1,000 calories and you get close to it every day. I am a big believer in not eating back exercise cals either and what works for you works for you. I gain muscle way too fast to eat as much as some people say because I will and have gained weight eating back the cals. I have to keep it about your level and believe me, I am NOT losing muscle. Good for you coming so far! Keep up the awesome work!0

I didn't refer to anyone as being uppity either. I said "before you get all uppity" which, if you didn't know, is not the same as calling someone uppity. It does imply that there is a possibility of becoming uppity but it's still not the same as directly calling someone uppity.0 -

If you feel attacked I suggest staying away from the Internet.
I've made zero negative comments directed towards you. The fact you felt as though I called you uppity proved to me you lack reading comprehension, it's not an insult it's an observation. Reading comprehension is a beautiful thing and it generally helps prevent others from feeling attacked because they understand there is a difference between calling someone something and making the implication that they may act as such.
You on the other hand did call me uppity or more so implied I was but you deleted that.0 -

Seriously? I have my own stories that counter act all of yours. I know I've said it on here on this thread. And yet because I defend my own actions, I'm being stubborn because all of you are right, but I think I have just as many people on my side that believe we are right. What I do is RIGHT for me and what you do is RIGHT for you...again my doc says I am just fine, leave it be. And I don't have ANY medical problems YET!!!! and it's what we are trying to avoid for my future.
I'm sorry your friend died, but I have a friend who has been on 500 calories a day for 9 months and she's just fine. Different people different bodies, different all the way around. But you don't see that, you just see your side, doesn't matter I have a side also.0 -
Sad to say...but if you suffered from years of anorexia/bulimia then it seems more likely then not that you (not OP) are the one with an unhealthy perspective about weight and weight loss in general. Your condition is controllable but it is not curable...So since you needed to expose everything that you felt was unhealthy about OP's behavior....Maybe you would like to explain (in a healthy fashion)...How exactly a "supposedly" healthy person (recovering?) from anorexia/bulimia ends up once again trying to lose weight on an internet weight loss site? People who live in glass houses should not throw stones....LIVE AND LET LIVE!
Interesting that you assume I'm here to lose weight - I'm actually not trying to lose weight. I am 5'7" and 135lbs, and I have been since 2009. Through years of therapy, I have recovered from a life with ED. You can either believe that I'm a sick, incurable individual who has no right to suggest someone might have a problem for making the same mistakes I've made in my life, or you can understand that maybe I have an inkling of an idea of what I'm talking about because I've experienced it before and am able to speak now from a more objective place.0 -
I'm 5'8" and 130.
What do you think people would say if I restricted my diet so?
It's not right, it's not healthy. It's doing a disservice to yourself and anybody you may be a rolemodel for.
I sincerely hope you don't see health reprocussions from this.0 -
Reading all this has made me really hungry. Im off home to cook me up some food.0

Can't we all just agree to disagree? I mean you have your beliefs and we have ours. No one is absolutely right and no one is absolutely wrong. Do what works for you and we'll do the same.0

Oh and another thing I didn't mention. A month or two after hitting my goal of 'skinny' I started having seizures. I lost weight so quickly that my body/pancreas couldn't adjust to my needed insulin levels and while waiting for the bus I had a seizure and ended up laying out on the sidewalk and being ignored because apparently people just thought I was some 'drunk passed out chick'
I have medical records to back these ramblings up. I basically got reamed by the ER doctor and then by my own (who hadn't seen me during my crash dieting) doctor.
You need to satisfy your nutritional needs (and actual needs not your perceived needs) and adjust slowly. Why does the weight have to be off THIS MOMENT? Trying to drop it all crash dieting is a temporary solution, not the needed lifestyle adjustment you need to make.
/end anecdata part 2.
You are not me...I am not you. We are different. Just because it happened to you does not by any means mean it's going to happen to me. Trust me I know what I'm doing and I'm fine. Come on doctors put people on less than this and they are freaking fine. If it was so bad for you they wouldn't do it to them. Again you had something going on with your body before you did the crash diet and I am not crash dieting.
Yeah. Cuz Doctors know EVERYTHING. And NEVER make bad judgments. I wonder why they have malpractice insurance. Mystery.0 -

Wow.....puts things into perspective!! The importance of trying to take care of yourself before it comes to that!!0

Working in a Wellness Center I see it on a daily basis and it's disheartening. We have people in the gym that "whine" about being a size 10 and what these people wouldn't give to be a size 16.
Yesterday I did a weight room orientation for a female who has gastric bypass and it was just such a struggle to get into some of the open seated machines. I had to remind her that it will be hard the first month or so, but as she gets results, it will get easier.

It seems its human nature to not appreciate where you are. When I was a size 8 I still would whine about not having a flat tummy... but now I would be so happy to be there! And that is so much less to complain about when you compare it to people having a hard time walking.... that really affects their quality of life in a more serious sense.
I have lost almost 30lbs and I'm more pissed now when I look in the mirror than I was 30lbs ago. I don't think it's about not appreciating anything, I think it's motivation creeping back in where it didn't live 30lbs ago. It's my drive having been awoken. It's the dragon that breathes the fire of life through me and pushes me to BE BETTER! Things don't always have to have a negative spin, and very rarely if ever when someone is blasting themselves for not trying hard enough, does it have ANYTHING to do with ANYONE else.
I was just commenting on how lots of people take where they are at for granted.
