NROL4W vs Stronglifts 5x5
Has anyone used both programs? I have read several post lately that recommend reading New Rules but lifting according to Stronglifts 5x5 plan. I have even read some who say New Rules is complicated? I am currently doing NROL4W and enjoying it. Guess I'm curious what others think or what the difference is between the two.

New All-around
Hey Everybody! I'm new to My Fitness Pal and to this group, however, this is not my first time doing New Rules. I originally started in 2011 and got halfway through Stage 2 before I got pregnant with my second child. I started back at the beginning last week, so I've only completed both workouts twice so far. I've lost…

Calorie confusion
Hi all, I'm usually a lurker here trying to figure it out before jumping into the program. Anyway, I was reading the book and got to the part about caloric needs. Now I work at a desk job, so I'm pretty sedentary (I have spurts of activeness but pretty much count myself as sedentary). I am also 5'1.5 and 175 pounds. Using…

Maybe a stupid question. . .
Can I incorporate 30 DS DVD on non-lifting days? If I only use light (5 lb) weights will it mess with my recovery? I am halfway through stage 1 and looking for something to do on non lifting days. I really dislike straight cardio like running, elliptical, etc. thanks for your help!

thank you for the advice, look where it took me!
Well, it's official, I've been logged onto MFP for 365 days! This is how I started: ] img]http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r784/tessa_maranta/Aug20201210lbsdown_zpscae0f08a.jpg[/img] ] At first, I went full on with the calorie restriction and did cardio until I just about passed out or puked. By…

Questions from a newbie to lifting...
I'm sure this has all been answered before so I'm sorry but all of this info is running together and bumfuddling my brain! Ok- so stage 1 the 'Special Workouts' that I'm suppose to do after I finish my final workouts. Does that mean I go through all 6 weeks of the A&B workouts and THEN do the special workouts? Is it just…

Swiss Ball Crunch Stage 2B
Do you hold the crunch position for 60 sec or get as many reps in for 60 sec? Today I held the position and man was that a good ab workout! Also, y is workout B so much longer than workout A?!

HIIT?
What do you guys do for HIIT in stage 2? Do you run? I used to do something similar when I was only doing cardio: sprint for 2 min, walk for 2 min for a total of 20 min. Should I do something like that here?

Squats vs. Deadlifts - substitutions
Hello there! I just started Stage 4 last week and find myself doing deadlifts again. I really miss squats. I'm told that squats and deadlifts work the same muscle groups, but squats have less risk of injury. Being that my workout partner hurt his back a few weeks ago (yes, my fiance is doing NROLFW with me, which is 100%…

Front squat to push press
quick q. re: stage 2 front squat to push press. Should I be doing this inside the squat rack cage or outside. I'm pretty tall so am thinking inside would be a bit tight. Cheers!

How to Properly Record in MFP
Hi Everyone! I am starting this program next week and wanted to adjust my stats on MFP. I know you can set your Calorie amount and see that you can also set percentages for Protein, Fat, and Carbs. Does anyone know what the correct percentages are to set? I have the Calculator spreadsheet from…

Questions about stages 2 and 3
I am almost done with stage 2...just one more A and B. During stage 1, it seemed like every time or at least every other time, I was increasing the weights I used. I don't seem to be getting that for stage 2? Did anyone else feel that way? Could it be b/c stage 1, being something new to me, I really started too low?…

Can't do lunges....need feedback please!
Need feedback please..... Due to a really bad ankle injury last year, I cannot due lunges, pretty much of any type. My ankle will just not bend or give support the way it needs to. It's bad enough I can't get full "a$$ to grass" ROM on my squats :frown: , though my form is still good and I have noticed some improvement in…

STAGE 1 RESULTS
June 3 - July 12 SW: 212 CW: 215 STAGE 1 is DONE! Still by far weakest in shoulder press & push-ups, but was definitely some good progress made considering I haven't been able to do a regular pushup since H.S. (many years ago!). I also did my AMRAP all in one workout which I think hindered me a tad as I got closer to the…

Im confused on how to read the workout charts for stage one.
Can someone clarify for me. For stage one for Workout A for example it has squats and then workouts 1,2, workouts 3,4 etc... are we supposed to do all the exercises or just pick either workout 1 or 2 for that specific day? thanks for your help!

Please read and put in your two cents
Over the long weekend I had a request for a sticky thread for keeping a points tally. It sounds similar to how you would tally points for a challenge. The example offered went like this: Day 3/72 Todays workout: Stage 1 A2 did you workout today? 1point = 1 hit your calories today? 1point = 1 incearse yoru weight? 1point =1…

Stage 4 Question
Can someone explain what a reverse crunch modified to push-up is? I looked in the book and couldn't find anything about it.

Questions before I give this a go
I haven't started the program yet, still working on getting the reading done. However, I have a few questions for those of you who have been doing the program for quite some time now. Did you eat at maintenance for the first 4 weeks? If so, did it work? Did you have to decrease calories after the 4 weeks? Anyone increase?…

Ok another silly questions from me.
I was restarting New Rules (I had to stop due to getting Mono) and I was at the gym doing my squats. Since i am just starting over and not yet at 100% strength I started with just the bar. I wrote on my progress sheet "bar", then this guy (who was creepily looking at my progress sheet) walked up and said "Hey that bar…

Stage One discouraged
Hi, I've just completed stage one and no change in measurements or weight. :( I was hoping for more out of this stage. I am 5'8 and about 170 pds. I am eating about 1800 calories a day. Someone please tell me what I am doing wrong! Should I up my calories or give it more time? HELP!!

Doing the program with a lot of weight to lose
I just received the book in the mail a few days ago and so far I'm almost through the part that discusses diet. Between that and reading threads on this group I am learning that at a minimum you should eat at maintenance. I still have about 80 pounds to lose. And that's assuming I have a good bit of muscle when I get there…

Sore....like really sore
NewB to heavy lifting, so if I say something off-base, just let me know! I'm not new to muscle soreness. I actually really like it. But after Workout A1 of NROLFW (Monday) my quads have been more sore than they've ever been. So tight that walking down stairs is scary and getting off the toilet is an act of valor. I did…

Noob Question about Lifting and Cholesterol
Hi Ladies! I am a dedicated cardio junkie - I love the endorphins and it's been the only thing that's been able to help me control my cholesterol (my liver loves to make lots of it, without regard to what I'm eating, apparently). No doctor will put me on a cholesterol medication because I'm a woman of child-bearing age…

Variation on dumbbell single-arm overhead squat?
These squats REALLY hurt my knee, it seems to force me into an awkward position that put too much torque on my knee. What can I do in their place? I am on Stage 3, and always throw in regular squats/deadlifts even if the program doesn't call for them at the time...if I keep doing my regular squats can I just cut the…

Is Taking a Rest Week Important?
Hi All! I am finishing stage 1 this week and I was wondering if you guys found it beneficial to take a rest week? What did you do in your rest week, if anything? Do you think you saw more results by taking (or not taking) a rest week? I am feeling a bit hulk-like this week and I am thinking it is just water retention, or…
