  • Congrats katapple! You're a total champ for running minus a pint! Keep on truckin' Leigh! I kinda try (or hope to) to catch up with or at least stay the same distance behind whoever is in front if me. It defintely keeps me motivated when I feel exhausted during a run ;-) The ODD part of the Oddyssey marathon are the…
  • I definitely agree w/ minding a way to enjoy food in moderation. I learned for me, if I'm going to enjoy something, it has to be near perfect. I don't want to waste my taste buds (or calories) on a "so-so" treat. We get a lot of sponsored lunches where I work & they usually provide dessert. If the cake looks dry or the…
  • Congrats on such a great job! I'll be looking to you as inspiration when I run my first half marathon in November. [img][/img]
  • I found it best to maintain the same balanced eating on the weekends as I do during the week. Otherwise, it is very easy to let one "special treat" become a weekly habit. I also noticed I do best when I log my food intake. The weeks I slack off are the weeks I lose focus, with both exercise and diet. Congrats on your hard…
  • I have the same issue with sugar. I'm counting mine because too much processed suger gives me headaches. MFP has me set to 26g. It adds up so quickly! Does anyone know why it is so low?
  • Welcome & congrats on beginning this journey! This is a wonderful opportunity to teach your daughter that anyone can learn new things to better their life! Be proud that you're taking this step! I found that I had to be patient with myself and not expect changes overnight. I met my goal last year through MFP and received…
  • Examine your diet to find where you can trade "cheap" foods (e.g., juices) for foods that will fill you up more. Water is a great suggestion. Remember that it takes time to readjust, so don't feel too guilty too soon. I had difficulty getting down to 1200 calories when I started here, so I exercised in order to give me the…
  • I do the same thing. I live in Philly & most places are mom & pop restaurants. I also overestimate the calories, fat, sodium, sugar, to be on the safe side. I love trying new foods with friends & fam, so I've learned to do it in a moderate, healthy way.
  • I set my goals up small for the same reason. I think it helped me meet my goal early; I had been so excited to reach each goal that it motivated me to keep going! Oh, remember to celebrate your achievements. Not with a tub of Haagen Dazs, though! :grumble: Pat yourself on the back for meeting each goal to help you along.…
  • I definitely understand feeling stuck when nothing seems to work well. Since I've been using this site, it has been the first time I've been able to lose weight in a healthy way. I have a lifestyle now that I can stick to without fear of regressing back to old habits. The support here is fabulous. Keep your head up &…

  • You made a great choice grabbing almonds. Nuts are a great snack & are a great way to get your calories and good fat. I've started sprinkling a pinch of sliced almonds on my salad instead of croutons and I love 'em!
  • Curry is my first love (my 2nd is my SO  )! I'm Kenyan, so our curry is different than Indian style because we don't add yogurt. That may help with the calories. Now, I learned from my mom when I was a kid & have been making it by heart for a while, but luckily, I've been measuring when I cook lately cause my SO…
  • I've heard lots of opinions & research about what time is best, but I figure as long as you're working it doesn't matter. I like to get my workouts in after work in the early evening, and first thing in the morning on the weekends (to be clear, when I say "first thing", I mean after I roll out of bed at 10am  ).
  • I have so much trouble with this so I'm in! I stay up late sometimes so I'll set my time for 9:30pm.
  • One quick idea if you want some flavor in your water is adding a slice of cucumber. It gives water a refreshing flavor (if water wasn't refreshing already :drinker: ).

  • They're great! I like to use them for my tacos and spaghetti sauce and I've never noticed a change in taste. What to do like to make with your crumbles?

  • You know your losing weight when... You're running and have to use your hair rubberband to tie up the waist of your pants because they're sliding down as you run... and you don't care that your hair is everywhere, you just wanna keep running. I just got back from doing that at the gym and there was NO WAY I was getting off…
  • Congratulations! It's been a joy to watch your progress. It sounds cheesy, but it really has been a great motivator to keep going.
  • I have wide feet and have tried many brands, but New Balance was the one that worked best for me. I didn't really realize it until Dec when I tossed my worn out New Balance running shoes and got another brand. My feet went numb on the elliptical (which never happened to me before). I got some NBs and my feet are lovin' me…
  • I'm so excited for the finale! I hope Tara wins. I was disappointed that Helen stayed and not her daughter. I hope she can pass on what she's learned to her daughter.
  • I do the same thing. Most of the time, once I start working out, I feel like I can push through it. I felt like crap this week (especially bad TOM) and was able to push through it on Monday, but could only do 10 minutes on Tuesday. Take good care of yourself and I hope you sleep better tonight.
  • By the way, I took my meat-lovin' fiance and best friend to the vegan restaurant to try the "BBQ pulled pork" version of seitan and they loved it. Suckers!

  • It's wheat gluten. It takes on the flavor of what you cook it with. It's kinda got the texture of pulled or shredded meat. I've found that it tastes great. I've eaten it in a burrito in place of meat and had it at a vegan restaurant served in a BBQ sauce like pulled pork. I've never cooked it myself. though.

  • I'm all about the mangoes, too. Whether they're fresh (which I think are in season now) or Haagen Daas Fat Free Mango Sorbet (I couldn't find fresh mangoes in the fall), it's great with fresh strawberries and raspberries. I only add ice and water, but I may try to add Fage yogurt. I love experimenting with food!
  • Good job getting started!
  • Last time I had Good Friday off was in college. We were scheduled to get off of work at 2pm today, but my boss is in a great mood after a trip to Miami and said I could skip out today. She's great!
  • I work in heathcare in PA & this all sounds fishy to me. The voicemail, the non-fasting lipid panel, all pretty weird. Request labs for a new lipid panel. Also the doc may not be looking at where you are now (I see you're halfway to your goal), not your progress. Just keep on keepin' on and always advocate for yourself.
  • Good idea. Now I'm thinking about chocolate cake. Mmmmm...
  • I wouldn't say it's horrible, but I also wouldn't make it a habit. Even if you don't eat all of your exercise calories, you'll be fine. The fear with the whole "starvation mode" thing is when you have a large deficit over a long period of time. One day with a few hundred calories left uneaten will not harm your body. I…
  • I enjoyed a spa day this weekend with a friend and forgot to check in. I ate dinner late on Saturday, but Sunday and Monday managed to go surprisingly well. Hopefully I can keep it up for tonight.
