OK, I shouldn't be here but had to do a quick check. Yay for so much good news in here! @bkhamill congrats on the new grandbaby, @crosbylee awesome cancer-free news, @orangesmartie so glad to hear you all WANT to work it out, and have fun in the UK @LBuehrle8!

I'm out for the next week (leave for conference tomorrow) and have no chance of keeping up here, but I'll try to pop into the bat cave. @MoHousdon and @jthurman3 I want to hear about your SL 5x5 workouts this week!

Dang it! I forgot I told you I was starting that this week. :o Guess I need to start that this week. We (Mr. Mo and I) were supposed to start this morning, but I had to take Rachael to her school to change her classes. Long irritating story.

I'm going to watch the second video at lunch today so I can learn workout B. Maybe Mr. Mo will want to go tonight after dinner. Doubtful, but maybe.

@WestCoastJo82 & @MoHousdon - We didn't do the workout yesterday, mostly because my knees were killing me from walking so many floors of stairs on my breaks last week (at least 20 floors a day Mon-Fri). It turns out my knees didn't love that. I want to make sure that I start the SL program with knees feeling good because the squats are what make me most uncertain with my sketchy knees.

I think we will delay the start to next Monday and I'm laying off the stairs this whole week so that I can start off the best way. I'm still really excited about the program and want to give it my all! My knees feel a bit better today and I think they will be 100% by the end of the week. I will definitely keep you posted!

I may hold off and start next week too. I still need to get me some Chucks and make sure I watch the tutorials as to not injure myself. I am excited about starting too, but not that excited about having to get up at least an hour earlier 3 times a week since Mr. Mo wants to workout before work.

@MoHousdon I just got the greatest shoes...New Balance Minamalist...they are different than any shoe I've ever worn. They have a wide toe area, which is good for lifting weights (they're weight training shoes). I can definitely tell a difference in my squats and deadlifts.

    Picture?

Umm...I don't know how to add a picture!! (Someone help me with this, please...!) Here is the link...I ordered them from Amazon.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KJCJL5E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Ooh I really like the Purple ones. I definitely need to get new sneakers. My old New Balance are so old & my Coach sneakers are practically bursting at the seams.

I saw the allergist yesterday. He thought my nasal cavities, throat, and ear canals were fine, but expressed concerns about the sounds my jaws were making. He told me my allergies were likely exaggerated by some issues with my jaw, maybe TMJ, and refereed me to a specialist.

MY SO probably has a similar issue. He's been having a lot of trouble with episodes of muffled hearing in one ear and takes an antihistamine daily, but the ear nose & throat specialist thinks it is a jaw problem rather than ear or sinus. He's supposed to see his dentist about getting a mouth guard thingy to wear at night.

I already wear a mouth guard thingy because I grind my teeth at night, so I'm a little too thrilled that he will have to wear one too. Really I'm hoping that it helps with his awful snoring.
What did the doctors call it? It makes a lot of sense to me now, but I always assumed my issues were related to my ears. I had a lot of issues with infections when I was a kid.

I have no idea about my snoring, lol

I try to do my best to stay supportive and positive for her.

There's days like yesterday that make me feel good, and then there's days like today when she comes running through the house with poop on her butt and a poopy diaper lying on her bedroom floor that make me facepalm and laugh. She's so silly yet she also tends to really push her boundaries at times. Talk about a crappy day, huh?

Never, but I love salt and vinegar and I love almonds, so that sounds like something I would certainly enjoy  I'm going to head out to the store today (I ran out of coffee...) and I don't think I can resist this craving. I've been wanting to watch Robocop so maybe I shall sit down with a bag of Dill Pickle chips and watch it. I feel incredibly stressed so that idea sounds mighty fine

    Yum! Salt and vinegar!

Funny story, we ate subway on Sunday after visiting my Mema at the nursing home, and Raelynn picked out salt and vinegar chips for us to share. I'm pretty much the only person (besides Raelynn now) who likes salty-vinegary (new word haha) things, but Raelynn thought uncle Danny needed a potato chip, so he took it without realizing it wasn't a plain chip. The look on his face was priceless!!
Salt and vinegar chips are THE BEST! <3 I have been known to go through an entire bag of them by myself in one sitting. Also, I love how you say "Mema," as that is what I called my grandma

It's funny because I was just about to reply to this thread saying that my mouth is in SO much pain... whenever I try to eat anything (which I probably shouldn't... that bag of chips contained a LOT of calories). I had two cups of coffee and both of them hurt a lot, so now I'm regretting that whole fiasco. They were heaven in my mouth while they lasted

I'm going to have to get a police check and medical exam soon to apply for my Canada permanent residency and I am absolutely terrified. Not about the police check, but I KNOW I'm going to have to get a blood test and just knowing that makes me feel woozy and teary. On top of that I read a review of the place I am most likely going that said the woman giving the blood test made everything painful... oh please don't let that be the case for me.

The last time I got a blood test I passed out on the floor and woke up utterly confused and nauseous, wondering if the woman above me was my mom and being scared that I didn't remember anything. Passing out is something I have a great phobia of. :( Blegh blood tests.

Can you not go to a different place with a more skilled lab tech?

Hope this goes well for you, my daughter has issues with this too. I told her she is gonna be my age and I am still gonna have to take time off work to hold her hand when she gets blood taken, lol.

I don't mind having blood drawn, but my mom can't stand it. She also can't stand to stay in the room with anyone else who is having blood drawn, because the needles freak her out. Both my sister and I would sit with her and hold her hand and comfort her while she sobbed through it--and once, I covered her eyes with my hands and told her not to look and I'd buy her ice cream after it was over. :p

Speaking of having blood drawn, though... (squeamish people look away!) I once had an inexperienced nurse trying to draw blood from me, and I have VERY elusive and narrow veins. I usually have to warn the nurses that they'll have to get it from my hand, because they just can't find veins in my upper arm where they usually prefer to take it.

Anyhow, I warned her that she should take it from my hand, but she wanted to try my upper arm first. She ended up having to prick me three separate times, and finally resorted to my hand (why does nobody want to listen to me to begin with? I always warn them... Bunch of know-it-alls. :p). After she was done, she tried to collect the tube and stuff, and dropped the whole thing. Blood sprayed EVERYWHERE. :D

Did she have to take it again??

I had a terrible experience when I was a kid once. I was about 7 years old and there was a nasty lab tech digging around not getting blood and it hurt, a LOT. I started crying and when she pulled out, I got up and tried to leave. Next thing you know, I have like five medical people holding me down, one was literally sitting on my lap so I could not get up, while this woman dug my arm with what felt like a hot poker. I even remember I tried to bite the girl sitting on me at one point, and then someone else pulled me back by the hair and held me that way. It was over 30 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

I am just a little excited to take my daugher to her check up at the cancer center tomorrow. They have recently had end of treatment bells donated to them and she will get to ring it! After over two years of worry and watching, we ended treatment in June and she has been cancer free since then. She may never really realize how big a thing she has been through, but I know there are parts she will never forget.

Stories like THIS are why I work at MD Anderson. We get new blogs from cancer patients every day who get to ring the bell that signals "I DID IT! I WON!"

ETA: I think I'mma cry.... :bawling:

I work for Texas Children's! Hey neighbor! Yes I have been fortunate than I work for the best place to treat her. My niece is a nurse at MDA and loves it sooo much.

Well I work for the detachment out in Bastrop, TX and spend a great deal of time at the Smithville, TX Science Park as well.
I work with/protect the scientists who come up with the ideas and do some of the testing to set up for clinical trials for new cancer treatments.
We are also working on something for diabetes at the Bastrop campus. The experiment, from what I understand, is going well.

Just catching up with you ladies!! Welcome to the new folks I see posting!!
@pofoster21 - Hope it is not malignant, but take it easy with the healing!
@KylerJaye - Yay!!! I was hoping that would happen!!!
@FluffySandwich - if you know what arm they will use, see if you can get some lidocane for the skin, a numbing medicine and use it there about half an hour prior to the draw and you won't feel it. My daughter prefers a vein stick to the finger stick, so we use the numbing stuff for her. Also, take a distractor with you so you are not watching them. Sometimes that can make you more anxious.

I got so wrapped up in her visit today, I forgot to ask about the bell. We can do it next month though. It won't be any less a big deal then.

I am smiling for you and your daughter. (HAPPY DANCE))

Easier said than done, but try not to think about it too much before hand. And if you're prone to passing out, let the techs know ahead of time, you're not the only one who passes out, so I'm sure they'll have a way to help you, or at least move you somewhere safe before it happens.

And hey, usually you get free juice if you feel light headed or dizzy! And any blood they take OBVIOUSLY negates any calories the juice has.

Make sure you warn the staff, ahead of time if possible. Honestly, most nurses etc. that do a lot of blood tests are very used to people who are afraid of needles and they want to make it as easy as possible on both of you, so if you tell them that you're very frightened, they can make accommodations for you like doing the test in a bed or lounger instead of in a chair, taking extra time, and that kind of thing. They might even make sure that your appointment is with someone who usually works with children or who is known to be especially gentle.

I don't have a fear of needles but I've passed out a couple times after immunizations/bloodwork for unconfirmed reasons, so I now have to warn them beforehand in case and I can honestly say that not one person has been less than awesome about it. Even at the travel health clinic recently, the nurse gave me all my shots while I was lying on the couch to make sure I didn't topple off the chair or whatever and didn't make me feel silly about it at all. Even the pharmacist who gives me my flu shot goes out of his way to make sure I'm comfortable and safe. Don't hesitate to tell them how you feel so they can help you!
Thanks you guys! I'll definitely warn them in advance. When I got my cap placed in my teeth and they gave me a shot to numb the area I was fine... until I wasn't. The dentist asked me with a very very concerned voice if I was ok, and just hearing him ask that made me start to feel dizzy, so he leaned me back in the chair for around 15 minutes.

Anyone ever do this? Like when your mom asks if you're ok in a very sweet voice, and you just start tearing up and wanting a hug?

    YES!!
i'm doing fine, holding it in, then someone says in that ever so concerned voice...what's going on? you don't seem ok.
    then bam! floodgates open!!
I know - what is that?! I've had to say to friends before "Don't be kind, or I'll cry." Everyone always seems to know what that means, and will say something practical and bracing instead.

I'm the same way. Don't tell me you're sorry, or offer me hugs, or anything nice like that. Either ignore it, or make a light joke and let's all carry on. Otherwise I will bawl.

This is exactly how I was when my dog passed two years ago. I had one day of work left before I started my vacation and I knew I could make it through one day if no one was sympathetic.

I came close to losing it when my very sweet coworker neighbour asked me her usual chirpy, "So what did you do last night?" and I had to mumble an offhand, "oh, not much" when it was on the tip of my tongue to say, "Euthanized my dog".

Oh, so sad. I'll cry with any of you if you need company.

    Super great coolness!

Please don't hate me but I've been surfing pro-ana sites for some inspiration. I am not the type of girl who can starve for long periods of time, infact quite the contrary. i just wanna learn some self control.

No hate here. I will express concern and encourage you to find healthy ways to learn self control. Hugs.

ETA I have friends and other people in my life who have struggled with such issues. Some took it to very serious points. Others have lasting damage. I would not wish that on anyone. Please take care of you.

@Reema_capricorn The number one helpful tip I've gotten from a pro-ana site was to drink a lot of water to not feel hungry between meals/snacks. Definitely has helped me and it's still healthy. plus the hydration makes my skin look FABULOUS!

I make an active effort to eat at least 1200 calories and more if I exercise on that day. They also mention to never lose hope.

Thank you for your kindness! Rest assured I won't go on 500 cals a day diet. I just wanna unlearn mindless eating and not graze like a cow.I just wanna give my stomach a little rest from overeating.

fun lil bit of info for those who may care:

mr jaye and i have decided to make the relationship "official"
we've both shut down our dating profiles and are now exclusive.
he's met my bff, i've met his, it's been pretty awesome!
he's kinda amazing and it boggles my mind why he'd be crazy about me, but i'm totally running with it! :D

thanks to all the peeps that were supportive during my "post date updates" you guys gave me so much insight and encouragement, which was absolutely appreciated and greatly needed. <3
Oh, that's so lovely to hear! I hope things continue to go well for you two.
If it helps, I'd been dating my husband for 3 weeks when I thought "I could marry this one". We've been married 21 years and still like each other.

I love stories like that. I met my husband in a dark, dingy rock nightclub. I didn't know anyone in the city when I moved there aged 18 so went clubbing on my own to this place because at least I liked the music there. Met him on the dance floor when a song came on and his mates didn't want to dance/mosh so I stepped up (we'd been catching one another's eye all evening) and I remember distinctly telling my flatmate the next day that this one was a keeper. I didn't even know his name or number, I just went back to the same club in hopes he would too and he did!

And I was right. We've been together 10 years and married for nearly 6.

I really feel sorry for people who struggle with blood tests. They seem such an inevitable part of life, especially if you ever plan on having kids. I'm on my third set already within 16 weeks. Two were scheduled, the third was because they mislabelled the first one! Thankfully I'm not nervous about these things (I used to give blood regularly). I can't give any brilliant insights I'm afraid. Distract yourself, promise yourself something nice for afterwards, imagine they're going to cut a leg off an feel relieved when it's just a needle? I don't know! Good luck to you, I hope it goes well!
