Another upbeat, chirpy day, which is good. Probably all holiday related though. Great sessions at the gym.

My confession? I don't eat pork anymore (for a variety of reasons) and haven't done for about 15 years. The thing i miss the most? McDonald's sausage, egg and cheese mcmuffin.

A life without Canadian bacon, or regular bacon for that matter is scary lol.
    May I ask the reasons?

Mmmm Canadian bacon and pancetta... Everything else pork is pretty much meh to me.

I saw the allergist yesterday. He thought my nasal cavities, throat, and ear canals were fine, but expressed concerns about the sounds my jaws were making. He told me my allergies were likely exaggerated by some issues with my jaw, maybe TMJ, and refereed me to a specialist.

MY SO probably has a similar issue. He's been having a lot of trouble with episodes of muffled hearing in one ear and takes an antihistamine daily, but the ear nose & throat specialist thinks it is a jaw problem rather than ear or sinus. He's supposed to see his dentist about getting a mouth guard thingy to wear at night.

I already wear a mouth guard thingy because I grind my teeth at night, so I'm a little too thrilled that he will have to wear one too. Really I'm hoping that it helps with his awful snoring.
What did the doctors call it? It makes a lot of sense to me now, but I always assumed my issues were related to my ears. I had a lot of issues with infections when I was a kid.

I have no idea about my snoring, lol

Whatever she called it, he promptly forgot. I don't think she said TMJ, though, he'd probably have remembered an acronym. But when he thought about it more, he does think the ear trouble began when he started the process of getting a dental implant.

Over the years I've heard of a lot of "ear problems" that turn out to be jaw problems.

To jump in on the McD convo: I used to get their sausage & egg biscuit, then add cheese to it (sorry @peleroja ). I also love their fruit & yogurt parfaits. Not too many calories, but quite tasty. I consider it a dessert for my biscuit sandwich.

Also, sometimes I just really want a McD's cheeseburger. The little one. I almost never actually spend 400+ calories on that little bugger, but yeah. That's the only non-breakfast thing I'll eat there, along with a hot fudge sundae. Heh

Confession. I haaate the word parfait. Not sure why.... but it could be the best thing on earth and I wouldn't order it if I had to say the name when ordering.

    j8gclur8mp9d.jpg

I'm not really sure what a parfait is? Is it like yoghurt? All I can think of is 'perfect' since I'm bilingual French. I'm sure a proper French person would know what a parfait food thing is, but I spent most of my childhood enjoying Marmite and toad in the hole and endless English stodge.

Google peanut butter parfait from dairy queen. It's layers of peanuts, chocolate, ice cream with whipped cream on top. So good (although you will be sick if you eat the whole thing). I don't know what the technical definition is but it must be something along the lines of layers of food/treats or something. And it probably is for 'perfect'.

No, really you won't. I speak from experience.

Dairy Queen in Canada seems to have replaced the fancy sundaes with the hot dessert treats. No more turtle sundaes for me. :(

I eat straight out of the container ALL THE TIME. Also, I can down a pint of ice cream like nobody's business.

This is why I HAVE to use my food scale and a separate container. If I sit down with the container in hand, it is empty when I get back up. One of the hardest habits to break for me. Good luck.

I am just a little excited to take my daugher to her check up at the cancer center tomorrow. They have recently had end of treatment bells donated to them and she will get to ring it! After over two years of worry and watching, we ended treatment in June and she has been cancer free since then. She may never really realize how big a thing she has been through, but I know there are parts she will never forget.

Stories like THIS are why I work at MD Anderson. We get new blogs from cancer patients every day who get to ring the bell that signals "I DID IT! I WON!"

ETA: I think I'mma cry.... :bawling:

I work for Texas Children's! Hey neighbor! Yes I have been fortunate than I work for the best place to treat her. My niece is a nurse at MDA and loves it sooo much.

Well I work for the detachment out in Bastrop, TX and spend a great deal of time at the Smithville, TX Science Park as well.
I work with/protect the scientists who come up with the ideas and do some of the testing to set up for clinical trials for new cancer treatments.
We are also working on something for diabetes at the Bastrop campus. The experiment, from what I understand, is going well.

Awsome. I guess I am used to the medical center in Houston!

    I really dislike bacon.

The reasons are mostly, because improperly cooked pork can give you worms. And I had too many bouts, so i said no more. I only ever got them after eating pork. (and yes, i know you can get them from other things, and worse things from other meats). But touch wood, since not eating pork, i never had them again.

and also, i'm not really keen on the texture (i don't eat turkey or fish for the same reasons)

    I haven't eaten pork since I was around 7 or 8 years old. It's a texture thing.

I have vivid memories of sitting at the dinner table with a wad of chewed pork chop in my mouth that I absolutely could not swallow.

I'm going to have to get a police check and medical exam soon to apply for my Canada permanent residency and I am absolutely terrified. Not about the police check, but I KNOW I'm going to have to get a blood test and just knowing that makes me feel woozy and teary. On top of that I read a review of the place I am most likely going that said the woman giving the blood test made everything painful... oh please don't let that be the case for me.

The last time I got a blood test I passed out on the floor and woke up utterly confused and nauseous, wondering if the woman above me was my mom and being scared that I didn't remember anything. Passing out is something I have a great phobia of. :( Blegh blood tests.

I don't mind having blood drawn, but my mom can't stand it. She also can't stand to stay in the room with anyone else who is having blood drawn, because the needles freak her out. Both my sister and I would sit with her and hold her hand and comfort her while she sobbed through it--and once, I covered her eyes with my hands and told her not to look and I'd buy her ice cream after it was over. :p

Speaking of having blood drawn, though... (squeamish people look away!) I once had an inexperienced nurse trying to draw blood from me, and I have VERY elusive and narrow veins. I usually have to warn the nurses that they'll have to get it from my hand, because they just can't find veins in my upper arm where they usually prefer to take it.

Anyhow, I warned her that she should take it from my hand, but she wanted to try my upper arm first. She ended up having to prick me three separate times, and finally resorted to my hand (why does nobody want to listen to me to begin with? I always warn them... Bunch of know-it-alls. :p). After she was done, she tried to collect the tube and stuff, and dropped the whole thing. Blood sprayed EVERYWHERE. :D

Did she have to take it again??

I had a terrible experience when I was a kid once. I was about 7 years old and there was a nasty lab tech digging around not getting blood and it hurt, a LOT. I started crying and when she pulled out, I got up and tried to leave. Next thing you know, I have like five medical people holding me down, one was literally sitting on my lap so I could not get up, while this woman dug my arm with what felt like a hot poker. I even remember I tried to bite the girl sitting on me at one point, and then someone else pulled me back by the hair and held me that way. It was over 30 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

30 years ago or not, that sounds terrible and basically like it was assault. sorry you had to go through that.

Oh, that's so lovely to hear! I hope things continue to go well for you two.
If it helps, I'd been dating my husband for 3 weeks when I thought "I could marry this one". We've been married 21 years and still like each other.

I love stories like that. I met my husband in a dark, dingy rock nightclub. I didn't know anyone in the city when I moved there aged 18 so went clubbing on my own to this place because at least I liked the music there. Met him on the dance floor when a song came on and his mates didn't want to dance/mosh so I stepped up (we'd been catching one another's eye all evening) and I remember distinctly telling my flatmate the next day that this one was a keeper. I didn't even know his name or number, I just went back to the same club in hopes he would too and he did!

And I was right. We've been together 10 years and married for nearly 6.

    that's incredible!
seriously, it sounds like something you would see in a movie, so cool!

I have the same veins as you. The ones in my arms never work so they have to use my hands as well. But I had the same issue where they always want to try the arms first for some reason.

The last part...wow, I'm glad I never had something like that happen!

I am getting my skin cancer cut out today. I had no idea no running, riding, swimming, or anything but walking or the stationary bike after 2 days for TWO weeks. I am not happy.

Not to mention the sound of the snipping of my flesh is making me a bit nauseous.

I hope everything goes okay. This sounds scary. Sorry you can't really work out much after.

Not scary. Just annoying. But I will admit that while I don't get nauseous or weirded out by medical stuff usually (look away @FluffySandwich) the snipping of my flesh, burning of the small veins and the stitching of the wound, while I felt nothing, was really getting to me by the end. The first time... no problem. The 2nd cut a bit squeamish, by the 3rd cut then subsequent stitching I was really getting a bit lightheaded. ICK!
I didn't heed your warning either  I'm ok with hearing about the snipping of flesh (though I'm terribly sorry you have to go through all of that, happy that your cancer is gone though! It's no joke) and stitching of wounds for some reason. The burning of veins bothers me a lot more. I think I have a problem with veins in general. I don't like seeing my veins :(

I'm not bad with getting blood drawn/needles etc, but I agree. I don't like being able to see my veins. It bothers me because when I lose weight I always lose a lot from my hands so they end up veiny. I hate it. :(

I have a strong craving for some vinegary chips. Or banana peppers. Or pickle juice. DILL PICKLE CHIPS <3 When I get vinegar cravings I can really go bonkers.

LOVE salty vinegary things....now I'm craving them too! Ooh! Have you ever had salt and vinegar almonds?? I eat them like every day. So good...
Never, but I love salt and vinegar and I love almonds, so that sounds like something I would certainly enjoy  I'm going to head out to the store today (I ran out of coffee...) and I don't think I can resist this craving. I've been wanting to watch Robocop so maybe I shall sit down with a bag of Dill Pickle chips and watch it. I feel incredibly stressed so that idea sounds mighty fine

    Yum! Salt and vinegar!

Funny story, we ate subway on Sunday after visiting my Mema at the nursing home, and Raelynn picked out salt and vinegar chips for us to share. I'm pretty much the only person (besides Raelynn now) who likes salty-vinegary (new word haha) things, but Raelynn thought uncle Danny needed a potato chip, so he took it without realizing it wasn't a plain chip. The look on his face was priceless!!
Salt and vinegar chips are THE BEST! <3 I have been known to go through an entire bag of them by myself in one sitting. Also, I love how you say "Mema," as that is what I called my grandma

Will do! Now I'm not sure if I want dill pickle or salt and vinegar. They're pretty similar in my eyes!

Easier said than done, but try not to think about it too much before hand. And if you're prone to passing out, let the techs know ahead of time, you're not the only one who passes out, so I'm sure they'll have a way to help you, or at least move you somewhere safe before it happens.

And hey, usually you get free juice if you feel light headed or dizzy! And any blood they take OBVIOUSLY negates any calories the juice has.

Make sure you warn the staff, ahead of time if possible. Honestly, most nurses etc. that do a lot of blood tests are very used to people who are afraid of needles and they want to make it as easy as possible on both of you, so if you tell them that you're very frightened, they can make accommodations for you like doing the test in a bed or lounger instead of in a chair, taking extra time, and that kind of thing. They might even make sure that your appointment is with someone who usually works with children or who is known to be especially gentle.

I don't have a fear of needles but I've passed out a couple times after immunizations/bloodwork for unconfirmed reasons, so I now have to warn them beforehand in case and I can honestly say that not one person has been less than awesome about it. Even at the travel health clinic recently, the nurse gave me all my shots while I was lying on the couch to make sure I didn't topple off the chair or whatever and didn't make me feel silly about it at all. Even the pharmacist who gives me my flu shot goes out of his way to make sure I'm comfortable and safe. Don't hesitate to tell them how you feel so they can help you!
Thanks you guys! I'll definitely warn them in advance. When I got my cap placed in my teeth and they gave me a shot to numb the area I was fine... until I wasn't. The dentist asked me with a very very concerned voice if I was ok, and just hearing him ask that made me start to feel dizzy, so he leaned me back in the chair for around 15 minutes.

Anyone ever do this? Like when your mom asks if you're ok in a very sweet voice, and you just start tearing up and wanting a hug?

    YES!!
i'm doing fine, holding it in, then someone says in that ever so concerned voice...what's going on? you don't seem ok.
    then bam! floodgates open!!
I know - what is that?! I've had to say to friends before "Don't be kind, or I'll cry." Everyone always seems to know what that means, and will say something practical and bracing instead.

I'll have to remember "Don't be kind, or I'll cry" because I'm the same way! I also get overly emotional when people talk about their kids. I'll tear up when a friend is telling me a story about something their kiddo did. Really trying to get a handle on that one.

I'm still working on getting caught up.

I went on a walk at lunch yesterday with a co-worker so that was good. I'm thinking about walking again today. :)

I have today and then half a day tomorrow for work so I'm in vacation mode already. This weekend I have my Red Rocks concerts so I'm really excited (Pretty Lights Friday and Saturday). :) Hopefully no one laughs at me since I'm older but I bought jewels for my face so I'm going to put those on and I have Glowbys for my hair (fiber optic glow barrettes for hair). I'm just going to have fun. I'll try to post a pic in the batcave from my phone later of my trial run of the jewels to see what you guys think.

Friday morning we are going to Original Pancake house. Strawberry waffles and home fries here I come. Yay.

Second one, he was a dinosaur, and then last year was the pizza. I'll post pictures in the batcave later. I get ridiculously excited about picking out his costume and I will be pumped if I can find a French fry for him!

ME TOO!!! I was just thinking about Halloween last night!! October is my absolute favorite month out of the year!

That is terrible! Why would anyone do that to a child?

Yay.

You're never too old for those kinds of things!! I love all things that sparkle! Have a blast!! Can't wait to see pictures!

@FroggyBug - I just wanted to let you know that I did not forget that you want the Irish Soda bread recipe. I promise I will get it up soon! The problem is that I do not general measure things when I cook/bake (although learning to use the food scale more when eating)....so I actually need to make a loaf, so I can take measurements to post it for you, as I do not think, a dash of this and a handful of that would be helpful for you! I am gonna try and do it in the next few days, maybe the weekend!

The number on my scale keeps creeping up, daily it seems, and I can't seem to make myself care. Super frustrated with myself right now. I wonder if it is related to how busy I am at work. Maybe I can only focus and succeed at one thing at a time?

The downside is it's going to cost a fortune for you to fly us all in to be bridesmaids.

I'll pay my own way, just don't make me wear a hideous dress.

Please let me know if this does work because Mr. Mo snores like a freight train carrying a pod of humpback whales using chainsaws.

I think it's a sign of old age that one of the most appealing features of clothing for me is the ability to wear a normal bra (i.e. the dress I bought from ModCloth).

This sounds awful. How did those people have jobs. If I found out someone did that to MY child, I'd be in prison for sure. I'm just speechless.

fun lil bit of info for those who may care:

mr jaye and i have decided to make the relationship "official"
we've both shut down our dating profiles and are now exclusive.
he's met my bff, i've met his, it's been pretty awesome!
he's kinda amazing and it boggles my mind why he'd be crazy about me, but i'm totally running with it! :D

thanks to all the peeps that were supportive during my "post date updates" you guys gave me so much insight and encouragement, which was absolutely appreciated and greatly needed. <3

Now, THAT'S a meet cute! Love it!

I eat straight out of the container ALL THE TIME. Also, I can down a pint of ice cream like nobody's business.

    pfft! Lightweight ;)

SSP told me yesterday that if he wants to(I don't know why anyone would WANT to) he can eat an entire giant Double Dave's Pizza... yuck!

I used to be able to eat a half a Papa Murphy's Family Size stuffed pizza by myself. Now, I can MAX 2 slices. *flexes muscles*

I'm not proud of this, but I used to (regularly) order and eat potato wedges, chicken strips, a large pizza and a tub of ice cream, from Pizza Hut. I always planned to eat the wedges and strips one night, and the pizza the next. never happened. and when pizzas were on bogoff, i used to order 2, planning to eat one, save one. nup, that never happened either. I am such a pig!

I'm not proud of myself...but I have days where I can eat the world. Like, disgustingly huge amounts of food. Not sure how it all fits in there...but yeah. Kinda gross.

Same here. Then, once the eat-the-world feeling wears off, I feel so disgustingly sick/full and my stomach feels like it wants to pop, and I wonder how I could have gotten to this point of fullness without feeling the discomfort beforehand. I have no idea how it happens! It's like my stomach goes numb for a while, then suddenly feels everything at once. :s

When I watch any weight loss show, I stuff my face with junk food for the entire length of the show. Im pretty sure I am not the onlt one. :)

    you're not :)

but in fairness it was shows like the biggest loser and thintervention that got me off the sofa int he first place.

I've never heard of the thintervention show (maybe it is only shown where you live) but I'm intrigued. :) It sounds like something I would watch.

I know my 600 lb life was one of those shows for me.
