I think kale chips are delicious  Maybe you guys haven't tried the right kind? Baby spinach is more delicious though... I buy some almost every time I go to the grocery store. I can eat that alone as a snack

I dropped a big blog of peanut butter onto the crotch of my black pants. I tried to clean it off, but peanut butter isn't the most cooperative, so I will most likely have this awful stain on the crotch of my pants all day.

I really don't like the word crotch.

With me it's usually something chocolate-ish that melts and smears... normally dropped on my chair, then transfers itself to my slacks... which then resembles excrement, I'm sure.

Haha. Been there. I used to eat chocolate chip granola bars, and inevitably, a chip would fall off the bar, and somehow creep its way under my butt to melt and become conspicuously noticeable on my jeans. I don't eat chocolate chip granola bars anymore.

It happens if I eat one while I'm driving.

I totally wee in the shower.

I am sure we have all done that a time or two... :D

I can honestly say I have never peed in a shower/pool/ocean. I will admit that I've tried, but my body just won't let it happen lol.

Me neither. I remember having major surgery when I was 19 and the first night I was given a bedpan to pee in... even though my bladder was close to bursting, it took a LOT of effort to pee while sitting in bed.

Aaaaand... four days later, I'm finally caught up!

Yay for being caught up! In triathlon people go to the bathroom in their wetsuit and on the bike. While under extreme duress I can go in my wetsuit now (but not while swimming) I refuse to go on the bike (I think that is beyond disgusting and since I am not fast I see no reason not to stop at a portapotty on course). They even go while running...no way could I do that.

People just pee all over themselves?! That is nasty. :s

Yep. I don't think I've ever been that serious about something that peeing on myself seemed like the best choice. :grimace:

I had a body comp scan done yesterday in conjunction with a research study at the Univ of Arkansas. I'm still processing the results, but in a nutshell- My bone density is good (she said at expected degeneration rate I could make it to 100 without getting osteoporosis.) My body fat % is higher than I would like (32.8%), but not bad for my age. I'm debating on whether I should try to drop another few lbs. At my lowest weight (which I haven't seen in a few months- I'm hovering about 5 lbs over that), I'm at the high end of healthy for my height (5'2.25")

I want one of those SOOOO bad!

My initial motivation for lifting was to build/maintain bone density and I'd really love to know if I'm actually accomplishing that. Every single female ancestor of mine, both sides of the family, has had osteoporosis and I have most of the risk factors.

At this point I'd also like to know if I'm growing any significant muscle (as opposed to just stripping fat).

Yeah, I lift weights for bone health, but I'd be lying if I said that I was recomping for reasons other than vanity. My scale puts me at about 24-25% body fat, which seems about right when I look at those pictures online that show different percentages. I think I'd really like to get to about 22%. I've thought about getting a DEXA scan, but my university doesn't have one on-site (well, not for people at least) which is where I've heard you can get them done for a little less money.

@Just_Ceci - I've heard the same thing as @Tubbs216 - that being at the higher end of normal was good for bones as you got older. No idea if it's true or not, but something I definitely have heard.

Okay, for the record... I'm not a fan of carrot cake or kale... but will eat both if I need to be polite. I'll refuse curry or hot spicy anything or olives. Don't like lime or lemon flavoured anything.

I'm fine with pickles or mayo, however.

Sweets and chocolate are my vices, not the salty crunchy stuff... so I'm perfectly capable of eating just a few nuts or chips (crisps for the Brits).

Why are the thin and well built members of MFP so mean? I guess they've never been where we are.

Welcome to the thread! We've been trying to keep this a judgement-free zone :)

There are a lot of very fit people with a ton of knowledge and experience on this site, and a lot of them have lost a ton of weight themselves (and/or built some serious muscle.) Keep in mind that a lot of them have been here a long time and tend to be a little more...direct...with the kind of questions they see all the time. They are also generally big fans of "tough love", meaning they're definitely not going to accept excuses and they won't sugarcoat stuff to be nice. I'm not saying it's always the best way, but please don't give up or have your feelings hurt because they really are trying to help, and sometimes it's hard to accurately read tone on the Internet anyway. Know what I mean? And remember that a lot of them HAVE been where you are and so taking their advice, no matter how it's phrased, might be a good idea.

I will also say that I don't think that all or even most thin members of MFP are this way. There are a few on this thread who are incredibly supportive, like @pofoster21 and @MoHousdon for example. Stick around! This thread is a great place to ask questions because, as I said earlier, we try to keep it judgement-free and friendly around here.

This made me smile! Thanks, I do try.

Also, welcome to the thread @Rheameg .

Yeah, I know that feeling. I once had a Garmin that froze up on me during a long run. I wanted to take it off and throw it down and smash it. The only thing that stopped me was knowing that I was going to call them and make them send me a new one when I got home. I couldn't do that if I didn't have the old one to return. LOL

MapMyWalk, which gave me massive issues syncing with MFP and screwed up my phone so badly I had to take it off and reinstall, ripped me off for over a mile on yesterday's walk because it popped up some offer to pay for a premium version that apparently halted my tracking until I noticed and got rid of it.

(But it's free. I can't expect too much.)

I use that app too and I've had 3-4 times where it just didn't work. One time, I was taking a walk with my family (husband, child in a wagon and dog) and it told me I was walking like 6 miles an hour. Personal record, woohoo!...only no way. The other times it just didn't start or something. I thought hmmm, it should have told me I was at a mile and checked and it said I hadn't gone anywhere. But, like you said, it's free.

It was pretty accurate for me until I did the MFP sync... that messed up everything. I consistently walk about 3.4 miles per hour... the first mile being the quickest, lol.

The part I dislike is when I start workout mode it mutes my text notifications (no stopping to text for you, Ythannah, keep walking!) and I have to manually turn them back on when I finish my walk.

I never noticed that but I usually use it in the morning before work and not too many people text me at 5am. But now that you mention it, I never hear my phone ring or a text alert so I wonder if MapMyRun turned them off.

Confession: I bought a children's duck-down vest at Costco last night because it was made of real down but $20. $20! Luckily I'm hobbit-sized and can make that stuff fit (at least with athletic wear, which generally doesn't look so obviously from the kids' section) because it's so much cheaper than adult clothes. So yeah, I wear kids' clothes....

Don't be embarrassed. I bought a kid-sized North Face jacket last year because it was $40 less than the adult size and fit just as good. I'm cheap, but still want to be fashionable.

Hi everyone! I wasn't feeling to great yesterday thanks to my allergies, but I hope the thread's been doing fine. My ortho told me on Monday that I could get back into running, so I started c25k on Tuesday. Gonna go for my second day later in the evening. :)

I think I'd have to go have one done in the US, probably MN or WI.

Okay, no one really took me up on our daily motivation, but I am going to go ahead and share progress anyway.

Steps: 19, 903 (vs. 25K goal) due to rain and help at barn, as I didn't do quite as much walking as I might normally due as I had help. +
Never got to my run. I had forgotten my shoes so had clothes but no shoes at barn. So had to come home (kiss of death) and try to motivate myself. Well, after eating, and dealing with a washing machine mess (standing water due to clogged filter from washing bathroom mat that disintegrated) it was 10:00. I just couldn't get myself out then. +
    No alcohol +
Did not work on dissertation. For the above reasons.

    So not great. Today:

Flying to Dallas on a 6:40 flight (hence being up so early) for a meeting. So... this is really going to be a challenge but going to try to:

    Walk 10K
    Run 1 hour
Work in dissertation (I will use the plane trip to read some articles I have lined up for my literature review)
No alcohol (this will also be challenging as I am going out with some of my team for 'drinks' as I am in Dallas and we don't see each other much.

So...on 3 hours sleep off I go. I'll probably check in at airport, etc. Have a great day all.

    - Housework (Please, self, for the love of God, clean this house...)

This made me laugh so hard. ..

lol :p It made my husband snicker, too, when he saw it. I'm happy to report that house-cleaning is under way, and the apartment almost looks like humans live in it now!

... Not that it was a pigsty or anything, but I have a tendency to do a ton of cleaning in one day (like today...) and the house sparkles, then I let it all go downhill for a week or so until there's another ton of cleaning to do. I need to learn to just maintain the shiny! :p

This is why I have a cleaning service come once a month. Or nothing would ever get cleaned. Then it's insurmountable.

What all does your cleaning service do?

    *Waves hello from page 1114*

*Waves back!* Ours does pretty much everything; unload/reload dishwasher, cleans and dusts all surfaces, vacuum, mop, ceiling fans, garbage, all bathrooms, makes our beds (I try to make sure this is already done). They came yesterday, our riding mower has been broken for three weeks and Mr. Kellie tried to fix it but couldn't. Mr. Kellie mentioned it to the cleaning guy (it's a married couple) and cleaning guy says 'oh, I can fix that'. So, he fixed it and Mr. Kellie gave him an extra $50. They also brought us some homemade brew last night! Seriously awesome people!

Would you mind sending them to KS for a while? My house is in serious disarray. I told Mr. Mo we're spending Saturday cleaning because I cannot take it anymore. He agreed and said he'd make us ribs.

Oh, I will come help for some ribs!! Yum!

Mr. Mo said we're eating around 6, and we will probably start cleaning around 8 in the morning. So you should probably leave TX at about 2 in the morning to make sure you have plenty of time to get here.

I will post some pics in the random pics thread this weekend. I'm looking forward to having a clean house, and some mouthwatering, fall off the bone, sticky rib goodness as the reward.

So I love carrot cake, kale, and all pickles. Really I love just about all food if prepared well (seriously, "massage" your kale - AKA crunch it between your hands for a bit to soften it up - sauteed with garlic, chili flake and salt in olive oil, so freaking good).

What I don't eat is mushrooms and all seafood (yep, all), which makes me sad since those seem to be special ingredients for a lot of people. I keep trying them occasionally hoping my taste buds change but the fishy taste - even when faint - is just not pleasant to me and mushrooms and I have a textural issue. That being said, if that's what is there to eat I'll eat it. Academic job interviews are these crazy two day, all day affairs and one I went on took me to a sushi restaurant for one meal and a seafood restaurant for another

Confession: I don't *get* engagement photos. Wedding photos & baby/family photos - absolutely, but why does anyone need a hundred engagement photos? More specifically, why do people get engagement photos done that don't reflect them as a couple? My cousin & her fiancé just got engagement photos done, and sure, they look nice, but it's not "them". They would never go for a walk in the river valley (or anywhere lol). Some of them look very forced and awkward, which is too bad since they are both fun people.

I don't mean to insult anyone who's had them done, I'm just not understanding why it seems like everyone is getting them done now.
