I've just booked a holiday to New York and I'm so excited to try all of the American foods and restaurants people post here that we don't get in the UK. I've been to Florida 3 times when I was in my teens but mostly we just lived off Denny's and Subway. This time I'm gonna take full advantage of the yummy foods. I need recommendations!

For example I've never had Key lime pie and everyone raves on about it! I'm dying to try it. Now obviously I know you can get that here but I'm holding out as I imagine it's so much better in the USA!

My elder son lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan, he is always trying new things. I'll ask him for some recommendations for you.

My DOH! would recommend Carnegie Deli but only if you are keen on a pound of corned beef.

Just make sure you get a New York style pizza- Ahhh my mouth is watering thinking of all he great food the city has to offer! I hope you have a blast!!

My husband is very allergic, too, so I had to give her up when I got married. :( Luckily, my sister has her, so I see her when I go home to visit family. She's almost 5 years old now, but still very tiny and petite (She weighs about 6 pounds soaking wet!). She never grew much since her mother abandoned her so young and she was pretty malnourished. :)

When I was done with my workout today, I yelled, "Hahahaha! F*** you, workout!" It made me feel better. I kicked that workout's a**.

I am irrationally angry over how much salt is in EVERYTHING. It is so annoying.

My confession is I wish the gym wouldn't allow kids in the pool. There are so many pools around that people could go to, I just don't understand why private gyms have to allow it too. If there was even one around that didn't it would be a serious factor for me. Today there were lessons in the pool and it was down to 2 lanes. I nearly put my swim off completely when I saw all the kids in the changing rooms, and cut it down from my planned 30 to 20 minutes because it was so loud. I went into the steam room and it was still really loud. Please tell me I'm not the only person who hates this!

No, you're not the only one. I do think there should be some places that are child-free. I know some fancier restaurants have this rule, and we have a movie theater that has an 18+section - no, it's not "those" kinds of movies  , but they serve alcohol. There are plenty of places that allow and cater to kids, I don't see any reason why there can't be places for adults only.

LOL at bolded. I agree on adults only places. I want an adults only bouncy house!

    this would be AWESOME!!!!

I'm a very pure, innocent soul. Not much to confess. :)

That's not what you said a few pages ago! Spill it! And I don't mean what you just said in your previous post. That we don't need to hear about. Since you're still with us on this thread you might as well contribute something good!

Poop isn't good enough for you people? That usually knocks 'em dead most places. Tough crowd. Hmmm. Confessions, confessions, let me think...

I confess that my dad's a recovering alcoholic who got rid of all the pets I loved and my childhood home when I was younger because he needed to move to Florida to try and keep my mom from divorcing him. When he was down in Florida, I witnessed my dad have an alcoholic seizure in front of my girlfriend who was meeting my parents for the first time. That was quite a few years ago, so he is doing better now. Even though I love my dad, we don't talk very much because he lives with my mom in NC now. That makes me a little sad, and I probably still harbor anger and resentment towards him.

    Good enough?

My father-in-law was an alcoholic, too. It messes up a family for sure.

You are officially a member of our group now.

As was my stepdad. A 12 pack every single day after work. A case a day on the weekend. Every weekend morning I remember the sound of a beer can popping open. Breakfast of champions, my azz!

My stepdad is an alcoholic too. He drinks as soon as he clocks out from work, all day on the weekends and pretty much any other time too. He has come to church functions, side jobs (he builds fences), birthday parties (kids), family gatherings, including Christmas morning, my 27th birthday party (where he called me a bit@h), and several other occasions drunk. He keeps a cooler of beer in my mom's car so he can drink while she drives. He ran into a bridge last week "because the sun was in his eyes", but I'm pretty sure that alcohol was involved. I refuse to let my daughter ride in the car with him while he's driving.

A friend of my dad's that he works with is an alcoholic, too. He drinks pretty much all day, every day. I've never seen him without a beer in his hand. I remember him pulling around a wagon with a case of beer when he would take his kids trick-or-treating.

I just saw my 4 year old slip a small cup into the cat's water dish and then drink it. It was so quick I didn't even have time to say something before it was over. Now I'm wondering how long he's been doing that. I just thought my cats were really thirsty, or that the heat was evaporating their water. Hmmm

Haha that's cute! I guess better than stealing their cat food.

Confession: I am watching Eurovision Song Contest with my girls and enjoy it, it reminds me a lot of my childhood when me and my sister would stay up way past our usual bed time to watch it and to have a glimpse of Europe, being raised in Poland in the 80-ies :-)

I JUST found out what that was as my boyfriend and some of his friends are watching it and I had to have him explain to me what that was! I feel so cool I know what you're taking about!

I used to watch it when I lived in France, even though we always lost... lol.

So this has been a total fail week. Too much hunger, too much food, too much sickness. Bleh. Will probably eat too much tomorrow too. I just hate fail weeks.

Here's a confession: I make the menu for 2 weeks worth of dinners before we go shopping. I do almost all of the cooking - by choice because he would/does just make whatever is easiest rather than something actually nutritious and I'm trying to lose weight here and raise healthy kids, and also because he doesn't get home in time during the week. - but if I have anything on the menu with meatballs, or any other situation where you have to touch the raw meat; I save those dinners for the weekend and ask him to cook them. I cannot do it. If I'm making chicken and it needs to be dipped in something, you better believe I'm using a fork.

Would it be easier if you bought yourself some non latex gloves, like the food prep people wear? Then you wouldn't actually feel the meat in your hands. I have a stepson that is like that too, but he is getting better about it.

Maybe a little, but I don't know. It's a texture thing, and I think I would still get squicked out. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Re: pets – I have black cat we named Bowser (from Super Mario). His nick names are Bowse, Bowsey, tubb-o, fat guy, pumpkin, penguin, bear, pups, and puppy. I would love to get another cat but our cat is like a kid and we shower him with attention. I have no idea how he would react if we introduced him to another cat. He is such a suck.

So names....These are very important to me. I like unusual names. I usually name my animals after Shakespeare, but here is the list (this will be long...)

Chinchilla was Sebastian Alexander (two minor characters in some Shakespeare play, can't remember which one).
1st Cat: Camille. She was a calico. Just looked like a Camille so that is what she became.
2nd Cat: Quasimodo (Quasi) because he was so sick when I found him.
3rd Cat: Othello. Because he was grey and Othello was a Moor (a bit of a stretch)
4th Cat: Nerissa. Handmaiden to Portia in The Merchant of Venice
1st Horse: Show Name: To Boldly Go because he was bold to the jumps and I love Star Trek. Barn name Oberon (A Midsummer Night's Dream)
2nd Horse: Show name: A Midsummer Night's Dream (In honor of Oberon). Barn name Phoebe because she came with it. There is a Phebe in Shakespeare, but I liked the "o" in her name so left it.
6th Cat: Portia from The Merchant of Venice
7th Cat: Emilia from Othello (Desdemona's companion)
8th Cat: PK (named from Paula's Cat). She came with that name, was a barn cat from my barn, and Paula is the vet...she brought the cat. She wasn't doing well (sick, needed her teeth done, wasn't killing mice) so I took her home. She is happy as a clam, nearly toothless now and eats like crazy.
About to be 9th Cat: Cobweb (a fairy from A Midsummer Night's Dream in honor of Oberon).

    Whew. So mostly themed. :)

    Edited because I repeated numbers!

LOVE IT!! That is such a great idea. I am a huge Shakespeare fan and Othello is my favorite play (of the once I have read and I confess I haven’t read them all). I have always loved the name “Desdemona”.

I hated being a cashier. I know I’m not the right person for it. I once got angry with a customer because he dumped out a huge pile of coins on my register and expected me to count it out and give him bills in exchange (I worked at a hardware store...). I told him that he wasn’t at a bank and I refused to do it. Of course management sent him over to customer service for them to take care of it. Ugh…I just get irritated with people who think they are entitled to anything they want.
Thankfully the head cashier that day was a friend so I didn't get into much trouble.

I was a cashier for 3.5 years while in high school and the several months afterwards. So many things irritated me and three that still stand out are:

    - When customers refused to empty their baskets onto the belt and expected me to unload their basket for them. Sorry but that is not my job (but I did it anyways b/c I always had a huge line).
    - The seniors that demanded special treatment. I had person attempt to use an expired coupon (by several months) and when I refused, her excuse was “well I’m a senior”. How does that make any difference? Nowhere on the coupon does it say “expires on X date. Except if you are a senior”. Management made me give it to them.
    - When people would argue with the price of an item and insists it is on sale, only to whip out the flyer for a competitor and for a different product.

And once, when I was working in a paint store, it was 10 minutes to closing on a Saturday (Sunday we were closed) and I had a 12 person line up which was from the counter to the door and I had a lady want me to do a color match on an emerald green pillow. While it can be done by scanning it, it often takes additions of colorant to get the right shade. I told her it would be ready on the Monday because it could take anywhere from 5 minutes (if the scanner got it right the first time) up to several hours (if I had to add color/shake/repeat and there was no way I would be able to get it done in the 10 minutes that the store was open when I still had to help all the other customers. She was so mad and complained to the manager (on the Monday when we opened again) because she felt I wasn’t giving her good customer service. It is not my fault you wait to the very last minute to get your paint on a Saturday.

Working in retail sucks. Customers are often terrible people with a sense of entitlement, and worse, they know they can abuse you and you can't do anything about it.

I hated spineless managers who wouldn't stand up for their workers.

She's a unique Arabian Mau breed that seems to be limited to Oman/the Gulf... Our vets call them Omani shorthairs. ;) If you really do want one, Purr-fect Pals animal shelter in Seattle has an adoption arrangement with one of our vets, and four of our Omani cats just arrived there a few days ago. (No idea if you're anywhere near them, since my geographic knowledge of the United States is... well... completely nonexistent.) :)

Confession: I've been completely off the rails this week due to a combination of illness, stress, and general lack of mojo. Today marks the fifth day where I insist to myself, "I'm getting back on track today, and I'm pre-logging to make absolutely certain of it!"... Only to delete my prelogged data later that day after shoveling cookies into my face or ordering pizza and French fries for dinner. It's 5 AM right now; here we go again! It's better to try and fail a hundred times rather than give up... Isn't it? :s

I want to thank everyone for their support. I actually didn't say anything to my parents, they actually ended up looking up the signs for anorexia online and my mom called me. :frowning: So now I send her photos of the food I'm eating (despite the fact that I eat the same things most weeks ((out of sheer convenience))) but she likes to know. So we'll see. I actually hit my goal weight back in March and then lost five more pounds in, I guess, a whoosh sort of occurrence and so now it just sort of hangs out there.

I have been floating around the the 'gaining weight' board but, honestly, the thought of actively trying to gain weight is terrifying, upsetting, and daunting. The logical part of my brain knows I need to, but it seems to be drowned out by the hysterical part.

And I guess to end this post on some lighter notes:

I went out and got Talenti Mediterranean Mint gelato because of all the mint/chocolate talk many pages back.

And! A photo of my cat Ella (whom I call Kiki and unintentionally named after my sister's dog, Ellie  ).

She spends most of her time on her back. lol. She's also super affectionate and hates when I do housework or any cooking because it means I'm not petting her. haha.

Yum their mint gelato is really good; however, I hated their seasonal Peppermint Bark. I wish their Egg Nog flavor would be a permanent one since it's so delicious.

Good enough?

Yes, that definitely qualifies as a confession. Growing up with an alcoholic parent is hard. My dad's dad was an alcoholic. Affected him and his brothers negatively in many ways.

Is he in a recovery program or does he just drink less? Sounds like your parents are still together. Is that a good thing or bad? Sorry about the loss of the pets. I don't tell many people this but about 2 years into my first marriage I had to move out of my house, find a place to live, and re-home 4 cats in less than 2 weeks. With a 2 yr. old. I wasn't as successful as I'd have liked to have been as far as the re-homing so I've never allowed myself to have pets ever again. :(

As far as I know, he just doesn't drink at all. That is one thing that my dad and I have in common. If we really want something, we make sure that we get it. No matter what the cost. So I do believe he is a person that just stopped. My parents being together is a very good thing. My mother's a sweetheart. That sucks about your pets. I have a couple cats and a dog now.

So, I want to know...is that really your chest? :)

I confess, that is really my chest. Taken with an iPad in my bathroom, right after a workout, flexing to exaggerate things a bit. I then used the black and white option on the iPad photo editor.

I also confess, I edited this for grammar.

Impressive. There was a guy in another thread (which I have no time anymore to check any other thread as this takes all my free time) who claimed some pic was of him, and it was some British actor. He totally got busted. He kept insisting it was himself until someone found the exact same picture on the internet and posted it. He finally confessed.

I was wondering if you were 'enhancing'. :)

No problem. It's a compliment. I guess I must be doing something right. Perhaps I've become a little too vain though. I know the exact spot in my house to make my pictures look the best. It's in the bathroom with the lights off, but the lights on in the hallway. For some reason the shadows make me look better than normal. There's a couple in my profile of me in the gym as well. I was by myself. No way I'd take my shirt off when someone else was in there. I really am a bit more shy in real life.

Well I know what I'm trying tonight.

    Lol.

I have one of those spots too. Mine is in the bedroom, diffuse natural light from the side and only one bulb in a two-bulb overhead fixture (confession: it's been like that for WAY too long!). I've actually taken a shoulder pic that I keep meaning to post in this thread to promote BZAH10's workout :) because the arm looks a gazillion times more defined than it does in any other lighting.

I'd love to see it! I've attempted to take some more pictures of myself, but I'm terrible at it. I think I dislike the word "selfie" so much that I am unable to take a successful one.

Great lighting but kinda fuzzy. All credit to your shoulder workout, however!

    Caught up to here.

I developed a cat allergy as an adult, so no kitties for me. I do have a dog (rescued from an older lady who couldn't keep him with her smaller dogs.) She called him Bobo. We shortened it to Bo, which we decided means Big Oaf, which is what we usually call him.

This afternoon, I fell asleep on the couch (after a 36 mile bike ride). About 20 minutes later, Bo woke me up, for no other reason than he didn't think I needed to be sleeping on his couch!

All credit to your shoulder workout, however!

    those are some impressive pipes!!

I developed a cat allergy as an adult, so no kitties for me. I do have a dog (rescued from an older lady who couldn't keep him with her smaller dogs.) She called him Bobo. We shortened it to Bo, which we decided means Big Oaf, which is what we usually call him.

He thinks he's a lap dog:

This afternoon, I fell asleep on the couch (after a 36 mile bike ride). About 20 minutes later, Bo woke me up, for no other reason than he didn't think I needed to be sleeping on his couch!

Awww! I love the "Big Dogs that Think They're Lap Dogs" posts that I see on Tumblr.

He's gorgeous! We have a 100 lb black lab who also thinks that she is a lap dog. Ours "talks" to our 13 year old daughter (only her ) to ask her to move from where she is sitting so our dog can sit there instead. Lol

I am really struggling with my CICO lately. The two weeks leading up to my surgery I stopped logging due to stress at work and some personal stresses at home. I had every intention of keeping up with my workouts at work (during lunch) but the volume of work that had to be done before I left was overwhelming and I had to skip my lunches to get work done (there are just not enough hours in a day). I did go play tennis a few nights per week so I got some exercise in but not nearly as much as I am used to. Since my surgery, my doc said I can resume eating normal food and I have been trying to get back to the CICO again and logging it accurately. I am sucking at it. @Tubbs216 had a suggestion of eating at TDEE maintenance for your goal weight and once I calc'd it out, I would be at 1500. I keep going over - usually at dinner (and with drinks on the patio). I've lost 25 so far with 19 more to go so I know I can do this (and I didn't gain any that I have lost so that is a huge plus that I should be proud of) - I am just struggling to apply what I already know needs to be done.

It also really sucks that I can't play sports or do any real exercise other than walking right now. I don't track the walking calories b/c I don't feel it is really worth it.

I am really sorry for posting my own pity party as I don't normally do so. I think it is time for a nice bath and a book.

    Thanks for listening.

I've fallen off big time lately, and now I'm confused on how to get back. I've looked at the TDEE method but I'm so confused on that, but I can't do the 1200 MFP keeps setting for me. I really don't want to put up a new post about it but may just have to...

What I've started doing since getting back on track is set my calories to maintenance. Sometimes I'm under by a lot, sometimes a little (or none) but I quite like doing it this way. Makes it more flexible, and sometimes I'm less likely to anack
Is that just setting MFP to maintain or do you do any calculating? I think I'm going to try that for a bit so I can get a grip on things.
I've also seen the suggestion of eating at the maintenance for your goal weight (which you'd get from calculating your TDEE then, rather than your current weight). You can then custom set your goals for that number of calories. In theory you should very slowly lose until reaching goal.
I'm now 12lbs from my goal and considering doing this if I start to struggle, or even just for a little break.
raelynnsmama - let me know if you need help with the numbers figuring. I have a fairly good grasp on how it all works.

I'm still catching up, but wanted to comment on this. My doctor actually recommended eating 10 calories for every pound you want to weigh, so if you want to weigh 135 pounds you eat 1350 calories. You should slowly lose weight until you hit your goal. I have yet to try this method but I thought it was an interesting suggestion, and one I'd never heard before.

Today was my daughter's birthday party, and there was hella food eaten (including copious amounts of cake), and now I feel like crap. I'm all emotional because I refuse to accept that I will have a 3 year old on Monday. I just brought her home, dammit!

I've decided to jump back on the wagon on Tuesday, and this time no slacking or falling off! I just saw some pictures SIL posted on Facebook from the party and holy hell I've gone off the rails!

I'm enjoying seeing all these adorable little kitties! Hubby hates them, so we're a cat-free family, but I can deal because I love my big doggy baby Diamond lol.
