We inherited all of our good silver and we bought plates/silverware from Costco when we hosted for the holidays, but other than that, we have lots of plates/glasses/cups that are just 'cool'. When we first got together we had our camping chairs as our living room furniture, because that's all we had. We'd laugh at it, because whenever we went camping, we packed up our whole living room. She should just allow you to have a cupboard that you can fill with of your 'cool' stuff. haha

My husband says very hurtful things when he gets angry, and a lot of the time he doesn't remember what insults he has hurled at everyone. In the beginning of relationship it used to upset me but we went for counseling and I have learnt to tell him what an a-hole he was and what he said that was hurtful (of course after the rant ). And during his rant I usually just walk away and don't take anything personally, he has learnt to apologize

I'm glad you have found a way to deflect the hurtful comments. Over the decades and through personal experience I have learned the immense power of words. If there is anything I have done worth worthwhile in my life it is learning to filter what I am about to say because it can never be recalled. To my detriment I haven't mastered the technique you described but it's never too late to begin right?

It's probably best if you just sleep on the floor on a ripped towel.

All deco pillow are on that blanket thingy she throws them over. I can use ripped towels. Or paper towels. And porn can only get me so far.

Looks like you'll be taking a lot of showers.

    Still married. Even after Vegas.

Suffice to say, that place is much better left off to young deviant punks.

Seems like a hell of a story attached to that...

Congratulations! Feel free to join the chit chat. The topic of the hour seems to be decorative pillows... :)

I, as a woman, can honestly say...I have no idea! I might get my girl card yanked for this, but I don't have decorative pillows, "good towels", fancy soap, etc. The closest thing I do have is the set of China from my mother that only gets used on holidays. It is a puzzle to me, too. Sorry, guys. Hopefully another wife can shed light...

Is there a guy's equivalent to decorative pillows??

This is funny because people on reddit were telling stories about how their parents had an entire decorative room that they just kept perfect and no one was allowed to use. They just had it in case the queen came to visit or something. No, we don't do decorative pillows, towels, rooms, or care about unmatching dishes. But, I do want to do some upgrading on our actual couch cushions, get a new chair, and maybe some re-decorating. Things are very kid lived in right now. But, our kids are getting older.

I have also known families who kept a room like that because it was the way the mom would have liked her whole house to be except children and life got in the way. Just having that one room allowed her a type of sanctuary and made her sanity possible. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

We have three teenage boys in the house. If we had any decorative pillows they would probably be dirty and smell like sweat and feet by now.

I can definitely understand it from the perspective of a room for adults and a room for kids. But, I would want to be able to do stuff in the room. But, I definitely understand wanting my own kid-free space. Definitely different strokes for different folks. I just personally like using my space, rather than displaying it, but that's just my personality. I have lots of things I would want to use that space for such as dancing and exercise. And no kid stuff. Edit to add: saying, "in case the queen came to visit" was their own words, not my words.

When I was single I had quite a few beer coasters I had snagged from bars all over the house.
