Katla~Yep DH is appreciative, and unlike years past, I do feel loved by the man. We have spent the last 4 years going on outings together, just doing stuff together, even if its just sitting quietly in the livingroom reading our books together, than we ever did our past twenty-something years married. When you know you have a good thing, you need to tend it, pay attention to it, and not just leave it to fate to live or die. Marriage, like this journey of eating healthy doesn't just happen. I have to be mindful, living in the moment, and wow... that does take a lot of conscience energy. Some times my husband will be in the other room watching TV, and I am in here, (the bedroom) typing to you all and I hear, "Oh booty-lishous"....(his silly pet name that he calls me now and then)...he'll whine..."I miss you, come and watch Gunsmoke with meeeee". Bawdy banter is the spice of life....however annoying it is I suppose! One day he called me "pumpkin butt" I about slapped the man...silly Chief...He says them all in good humor not to make me feel silly.
Lenora~I think she was shocked abit that I put myself out there to her. But I told her I am a retired Chiefs wife, and there hasn't always been the luxury of cultivating a friendship so I say always as I hand them my phone number, "We shall do lunch". I hoped I made her day a little brighter.
Son hugs ARE the best... Until they are old and grey I will always hug them....most of the time we do a little jig, maybe a spin or two. My youngest one tends to lean his whole body weight into them....so I always have to plant my feet a bit with his hugs.. One day he will just push me over...aaack..

Sorry about the cake recipes. I screwed that up. Should have known better, for sure. Not a nice thing to do to my friends, won't happen again.

Good evening, Ladies! I can't read the 165 messages I've missed, tonight; I'm having an amazing, intense, wonderful first week at my new job, and still wrapping up some freelance work, in the evenings...but I wanted to say HI! and wish you all well.

Karen, seeing your cake recipe and pictures and boxes just makes us have a little more resolve which never hurts anyone. so don't feel bad about it. We just like to kid our friends here.
I'm not sure about my good nursing on Charlie. I have been smelling poop when I am around him and the bags these days are supposed to be odor proof. Now when he empties his bag it is, wow, it is STRONG since it comes straight out of the small intestine. In the office I keep a bayberry candle under my nose but I can't do that when I'm in the living room. Anyway, I had been smelling poop but when I would be changing his dressing I would carefully check around his bag and not find any break in the seal. Today was the day to change it and the break was under the seal and it just hadn't made it's way to the outside yet. But his skin is pretty irritated so I just need to trust my sense of smell. He doesn't have hardly any sense of smell. It has been pretty much destroyed with his constant use of Afrin. So I should have changed his bag 2 days ago when I first smelled it. If it doesn't look any better when we change it next I will have to call the ostomy nurse.

Thanks. I don't think everybody was kidding about the cake pictures, which is OK. I'm an old dog but I can learn new tricks. And roll over & show my vulnerable belly.
Did you see Charlie's surgeon yesterday?
Your good advice on the mobility devices is having a ripple effect. An acquaintance whose son is recovering from a bad bout with Lyme disease is traveling to Denver for his son's championship LaCrosse tournament, and I was able to pass along information that may help him get around more easily.

Morning ladies~
sorry I didnt check in last night..didn't get home until 6:30 and was very tired..
Like I said yesterday I talked to Dr Ho, and that afternoon,Dr Sortito,Diane(office manager)and Dr Ho were in the office with door closed for a few minutes..
I had to work with Dr Sortito yesterday afternoon and all day friday.. and he was good, so I am guessing they must have said something to him.. because he didn't huff and puff and be nasty.. so that was a plus..
Today i have to go to the dealership and have recall work done and then go out with my friend Doris..
A week from today we will be traveling to Nashville whooo hooo..1 -
Hello girls!
I am closer to 53 than 52 now and have been back sliding on my health and fitness journey since November of 2015. Last summer, I was in great shape and had lost over 60 lbs. from the year before. I weighed 108 and was feeling great. I am five feet, two inches tall. I was eating clean and strength training. I even started a website about eating clean and fitness, but gave it up when the weight started coming back on. I was once an inspiration for others, and now I feel like I have disappointed so many, myself included.
I still smoked, wasn't able to quit, and am still a smoker. I had some health issues, still do, but some have gotten better. I am now back up to 132 lbs. and feeling like crap (pardon the language please). I hate the way I feel, and the way I look. I want and need to get back on track and start feeling good again on the inside and out.
I used to use myfitnesspal a lot. I haven't been here in a very long time and decided to start fresh. I am really hoping it will help me get back to where I once was.
There are many stressors in my life right now and have hardly any "free time." I am in the midst of menopause, recently diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, arthritis seemingly everywhere; carpal tunnel both hands, and experience pain daily.
I am in disbelief that I am in this place again. I thought for sure that after a year plus, I would never go back. But, alas here I am; feeling unhealthy, horrible, and fat AGAIN. I am not happy with me, AGAIN.
Has anyone else done well for so long, only to end up back to where you feel like "my gosh, I let myself get to this point AGAIN, what the heck am I doing?!!"
I know what to do and how do get there; I need motivation and support from anyone in or has been in a similar situation as this. Anyone? How did you get back "on the health and fitness road?"
Thank you for reading such a long post.
My goals for rest of June: June 23-June 30th
Lose 2 lbs.
Walk briskly 5/7 days for 30 minutes
Drink 1/2 gallon water every day
No sweets/sugar

Dr. Katiebug-I'm sorry about your Aunt Sister. Reminded me of my mother's family. Her mother was called "Baby" by the whole family, and her mother's favorite sibling was also called "Sister." Hearing someone called "Grandma Baby," "Aunt Sister," or "Cousin Baby," or for the men, "Uncle Bubba" and "Grandpa Junior" is inescapably Southern, and made me yearn for home in East Texas. The sensibilities there are much more Old South than West Texas, which is a much more Southwestern culture. Still Texan, but extremely different.
Cheri in NE Ohio - Congrats on your husbands job at A&M! I went to Aggieland for my master's degree work, which I didn't complete due to my mother's death. Marcelyn spoke of the bonfire collapse--which happened while I was studying there, and because at the time, I was the managing editor of the small-town paper in Madisonville (about 50 miles away), I had to report on it for the paper. Worth reading up on if you can find much online--they still grieve the loss of the people who died, as well as the loss of a tradition there. And yeah, Texas Aggies can get a little crazy, especially about football, which is laden with tradition and superstition. Since I was nearly 40 by the time I was there, I escaped most of the cult-like aspects. As I was a teaching assistant in communications while I was there, and taught public speaking, I heard many a speech on "Jesus is my Quarterback, and God is our Coach" from hulking undergrads recruited for their skills on the field, not their acumen in the classroom.
Regarding the house search - the further your husband can stand to commute, the easier you'll find it to get a house, plus it's a good time of year to do so. While I loved Bryan/College Station, housing away from the twin cities is much MUCH cheaper the further you get from it. You can find many a hidden gem of a house out in the post oak country that surrounds the college town.

Morning, all... My 7th paper is out to press, next Thursday is my 8th and the 5th of July is my two-month anniversary there, so it's flying by (at least to me). Karen in VA, the ballet analogy is apt. A weekly paper is a swoop and dive, a leap here and there, and often enough a crowd scene appears without warning and people leap about all higgledy-piggledy. Of course, the opera comes to mind as well--just the drama is usually offstage. It's a good bunch to work with, and I much prefer writing about the drama than living through it in the building.
Update on the weight - if I hold where I am, I'll succeed in being lighter from May to end of June, but a lot happens in a week.
Update on the job situation with my DH--the rather interesting people he works for immediately put in for a raise for him, but are balking at allowing him to move into town. He told the GM, who I worked for in my Restaurant Impossible consulting stint last year, that 3/4 of the change he's asking for was because he wants to be in town with me. And mentioned offhand that he hadn't had a raise in more than a year, and a raise would compensate for the drive time. So he gets the raise--but is waiting out the discussion the GM is to have with the owner's son-in-law, who's in charge of the ranch. They will be discussing during the fishing trip which my DH turned down that would have kept him away for three nights. The first question the GM asked him is, "Well, what happens when Lisa quits the paper?" and the next statement was "And you know, newspapers are really struggling all over, too, so they might not keep her."
I looked for an eye-rolling smiley, couldn't find one.
The GM's wife lives in Amarillo (4-5 hour drive) and they spend at MOST one day a month together, so he honestly doesn't even understand why someone wants to live with the person they married. They've stayed together 30 years because they don't actually live with each other.
Anyway, I have no idea how that situation will turn out. And patience (you may have noticed) is not my strong suit. Ah well.
Have a grand day, all...

I arrived safely at my parents' summer place in New Hampshire last night. Traffic out of Boston was horrendous, so although the bus departed on time, it was 45 minutes late after what should have been a two-hour trip. Thank heavens for cell phones! My sister had already gone to the bus stop to meet me, but they called her and told her she could come home again. Then I texted when the bus was actually approaching my stop and she came and picked me up.
So Karen, I for one am not across the pond now. I'll still be getting up earlyish, though, because part of my routine here is to go for a jog early in the morning, before the day gets hot and before everyone else is awake.
Keeping this post very short, but thinking of you all!

@DorothyCote News Flash! You have stumbled across EXACTLY the right forum. We will never be disappointed in you. This forum will provide you with support day & night. And there is always someone who has been in your shoes, or knows someone who has been. You can bring your tears & fears, successes & victories, gripes & complaints, and it will all be safe here. Sometimes people are blunt, sometimes gentle, but it's all done with love. And not all advice will fit your situation...so you just discard that...anyway, welcome, keep coming back, and you will benefit from a rich, wonderful community of women from across the globe! May we call you Dorothy? Where are you from if you care to disclose?
Yay, Penny, you are in New Hampshire at your parents' summer place after a horrid long bus ride! Are your parents still alive? I don't really know how old you are, so if that is a ridiculous question, please forgive. I am sure I feel your friendly cheerful vibes closer to Virginia! I am guessing you have a day & night in New Hampshire. I once travelled from South Dakoto to New Mexico after doing some traveling abroad, and happened to use my passport as my form of ID in the little airport I was flying out of. The man who was looking at my ID never missed a beat as he handed me back my passport & said, "Oh, ma'am, you don't need a passport to travel to New Mexico! I did a double take, but finally saw the twinkle in his eye and realized that he was having a little joke with me!
Cheri Texas it is! Can't wait to hear what you sound like with a drawl. Tell hubby congrats, so proud of him!

Joyce I know you've tried different bags, sounds like it is time for you to get another professional opinion on the bags
Becca you make me laugh, love reading your posts
Beth I guess you are in the midst of graduation business. When you can please share a story or pic. I plan on doing that tomorrow.
Yes. Today my DD graduates from HS. I will be proud and happy. I will fit into the dress I wanted to. I will have a few people over and not stress too much (ok that's probably a lie). I laid out a timeline of pics to hang up under her congratulations sign and just looking that over sends me into tears of joy and wonder and overwhelming gratitude. There is one pic I wil carry with me that captures the spirit of my girl from kindergarten it will be my amulet for the entire day!
Love to you all, talk with you all tomorrow. NYKAREN4 -
morning peeps-

Karen in VA - Yepp, I am still blessed with two living parents. Mom is 91 and Dad is 87. Last time we were here my mom fell on the lawn and broke her pelvis after having broken first one hip then the other over the preceding 12 months. It's a joy to see her here again, moving around on her own with tables and chairs and doorposts as support - "furniture-walking" as she calls it.
Speaking of passports, I was severely grilled by the officer in the immigration booth yesterday. He asked if I had dual citizenship, which I do, but he insisted I must have a UK passport then, because that's where I was born. He couldn't get his head around me being born in the UK, and living in Norway, while having passports from the US and Sweden. Um, sir, it's called globalization. In recent years I've started to wonder what nationality means in this modern, interconnected world.
Allie - I'm in the Lake Sunapee area. Closer to you than Norway, but still way far
NYKAREN - I really like the idea of a photographic timeline as a way to celebrate a graduation. :flowerforyou:
So I got out and ran my 5 km and a bit. I always end my run down by the lake and take a dip to cool off and get clean. (We're on well water and with 18 people in the house we have to save water.) When I got to the lake this morning I saw footprints going into the water and out again. They were exactly the same size as mine, so I suspected my daughter had been there before me. Sure enough, when I got back up to the house she had wet hair and was hanging up her jogging clothes. She had run two laps, about 11 km, in 58 minutes. I did half that distance in 38 minutes.
I hear my brother-in-law making lattes. His are pure coffee and milk, nothing else, so they're not the high-caloric sugar fixes that McStarbucks pushes. Still, they're heavenly and easy to overindulge in. Give me strength... But first give me a latte!

Good Morning ladies, hope all is well with everyone so far today. I've got a question, hope someone can help me out....Because of my job, I'm on the road ALOT, which makes it difficult to eat "right". Breakfast is pretty much the only certain over the course of the day. Most days its just a bowl of instant oatmeal, or grits (I'm learning the grits are a southern thing lol!!!). Anyway, my questions is whether it's ok to consume the most of my calories for breakfast. Sometimes, I'll have a homemade breakfast burrito that has 400-500 calories alone.
Thanks, ladies, I'm starting to look forward to reading your stories each morning. I do need to ask the young lady with the animations how I can get those! Love 'em!!!

@melaniemetoyer Sure! that's a good way for you to handle traveling. You can carry some protein bars & other snacks/meal replacements with you for emergencies. I am sure others will have suggestions.
@barbiecat has the most fun emoticons, she directed me to a couple of websites.

Becca - My boys will always be my 'babies'. Even at 40 and soon to be 38, when they come in - I get a big hug; and, when they leave I get a 'huge hug' complete with being hugged so tightly, they pull me off my feet and turn us around for 'extra' love.
Our DOS came in to talk to his Dad about a job that he had 'priced' for a 'friend/former employer'; bitching about how he *kitten* about the price, so he lowered it a bit; guy still *kitten*. He was trying to ask his Dad if he should 'justify' why he is being charged so much; it is a business so the painting will be done only on the weekends. For the first time I voiced my opinion (a quote to my boss from one of his bosses). "If you are going to give you friends a break or do something for 'free' for them; how do you justify charging a stranger for more'?"
You put your time and effort into it whether or not they are friends or just a stranger coming in. Give them a price and if they don't like it tell them to get a quote from somebody else and be willing to lose the job. It won't be the first; and, it won't be the last. You've already told him that it included having to pay overtime because of it being on a weekend, buying the paint and other supplies, moving furniture out and back, and even doing some outside work. He finally told the guy he would keep up with the hours; but, that the paint would be added to those hours.
Then he was upset with himself for saying this. Wishes now that he had told him, that the price was reasonable, if he did not think so, get someone else to do it. He's bought 7 cars from this man and 'he did not give him a break, he was sure of that'. The guy said that he painted his house for 1/2 that. But, DOS told him that it had only a little trim of it and was brick that he did not have to paint, and included a wash down. He then said that 'this is what he hated most about the job'. He wished he had a job where he went in at 8:30, did his job, and left at five - and 'if' he had stayed with his first job he would be making a lot more. Said that 'he could not worry about the 'what if's'; he had made his decisions based on what he had been offered; and,, he could not expect that he would start off with what he is making now; and, if he got the 'benefits' they so desperately needed his net would be even lower. I then told him that maybe he needed to look for that job. DH really wants to give up the job at the end of the year; only working on small jobs himself. He's also hoping his brother will move in with his granddaughter and her husband who just got accepted into medical school at U of FL; he could 'help' them financially. His grandson-in-law will not be able to have a 'job' the entire time he is attending. His wife was teaching; but, not sure anybody will 'hire' her because she just found out she's pregnant. But, still she could work; as the baby is due during the Christmas vacation time. Their plan is that she will support him while he is in school; then he will support her while she goes to school.

Good morning all! Still getting my head around the changes I'm facing. I'll be ok. I have a plan. Right now trying to decide if I should go back and get my doctorate or another masters in education. I want to substitute teach and maybe teach at a local college.
Still walking about 10k steps a day and logging, so a positive there! 25 pounds down from my highest! I now have 5 charms on my bracelet. One for every 5 pounds. Helps me keep focused on my goal and how far I've come.

Walk 1,000 Miles Challenge
5 miles
This is week three increasing my weight to the 35 pound kettle bell. I do get a muscle spasm in my left shoulder. Nothing that is to be concerned about. I have scoliosis so I often have issues. I am doing well on my walk challenge. I have almost met my 125 mile goal for this month.
Melanie- you have to do what is right for you. I myself would not be able to eat that much for breakfast because I would be craving food all day long. I have had to switch to the 19/5 fast where I have a five hour window of eating and that is between the hours of 5 PM and 10 P.m. This has been very successful for me and I have lost 14 pounds in the last two months. If you are going to eat a large breakfast I would suggest to exercise first. When I go on the road I bring my kettle bell and do 20 minutes of exercise first thing in the morning. Do whatever exercise you like for about 20 minutes. Karen's suggestion about bringing healthy snacks is an excellent idea. You can even stop at a grocery store and pick up vegetables and fruit as well as lean meat in the deli.
Mary from Minnesota1 -
fanncy0626 thanks...I forgot to mention( and this may change what I should be doing) but I do walk a brisk walk each morning before getting on the road. It will always be at least 1 mile, some days as much as 2.5 miles just depends. Once that's done, I eat breakfast, and begin my day. So for your fast, do you not eat at all before 5, and you eat all your calories between 5, and 10?

Welcome Dorothy and Melanie! I can't be chatty as my modem is fried. Ordered another one. Local school flooded and nursery school plus pub down the road. Several houses with no phone. Trees down. Big ones.
I have just made a Spinach and Feta Pie and will use the final third for canapés tomorrow with a dip. Also garlic prawns. Plus grilled artichokes. The main dish is Hairy Bikers. Haven't thought about dessert.
Everything hurts today. Back, hip. neck Still managed my 600 though but gingerly.
We have voted. Done our civic duty. Had to go in galoshes. Really hoping that the nation makes the right decision.
