Katla, your riding lesson sounds like fun. Glad you all enjoyed it.
Kate, I hope your stay with your DD is less stressful than you expect. You are good to go when you aren’t looking forward to it. (((Hugs)))

Hello everyone! I just found this group and love all the activity and supportive posts. I'm 55, 5'10" and need to lose about 65-75 pounds. I'm one of those life long yo-yo dieters. I think I've finally figured out one of the reasons is because I would lose weight but still not be fit. Even though I'd hit goal weight I still wasn't happy because I was out of shape. I believe that to be happy with the weight loss I have to work on my muscles as well as the scale. There are other mom issues as well (love you Mom!) but now I recognize them and deal with it.
I have to create a plan for getting fit while I lose the weight. Still figuring that out. I have access to a full gym and live next to a nature preserve where I hike so there's no excuse, except the fear of looking like an idiot in the gym. Does anyone else feel that way? I look forward to getting to know everyone and reading about everyone's successes and how you overcome.5 -

Kate Happy Birthday!
Katla I was recently looking at a Pema Chodron video - she was talking about recognizing when we take a "hook" and then learning how to choose a different response to the "hook". It sounds as if you and your husband react very differently to the same "hook". I like your response. Your husband's response causes him to expend negative energy on stuff he can't control. It's seductive. But a waste of energy, I think.
Happy Mother's Day! to all who celebrate it today! I am thinking Mother's Day in Europe is in 2 weeks? My partner and I had a wonderful Mother's Day this year! One son and daughter-in-law sent us EACH a dozen of the most beautiful red roses I have ever seen! And another son made brunch with Mimosas, crab cake Eggs Benedict, asparagus and hollandaise - yum yum! Plus a bouquet of beautiful lilies for each of us. In past years my son has given me something but nothing for my partner. This is a big shift. I think my 8 year old granddaughter has something to do with it. She is quite insistent about including my partner when she talks about her grandmothers. It is sweet and has helped us heal. She is something else.
Here is a picture of my mother, in my opinion the best person on the face of the earth. She was my best friend, a wonderful mother, and was wise and smart and witty. She wasn't perfect, but she had so many great qualities you didn't notice her faults. How very lucky I was to have her for all those years. She died in 2001 at the age of 76. She is in the pink outfit. The woman to her right is my paternal grandmother.

welcme jddavis2015. I go to the gym just for me, I don't look at anyone else and guess what, nobody is looking at me! Not a fan of group classes but love the machines and how much better I feel when I move, sedentary is a dangerous place for me. Keep checking in and let us know a little more about you, general area you're from and what you like to be called. Reading posts has helped me stay accountable, very very supportive group here. Heather: I love the family photo on the patio. You look fabulous!
Joyce: Mother's Day is tough. I've talked to both of my kids on the phone and am grateful for it. They live thousands of miles away, and I'm not grateful about the physical distance. My daughter is stuck at home today babysitting her own children and the youngest daughter of her brother-in-law who died. When my mom was alive I had her come for Mother's Day and cooked a special meal for her. Sometimes my Auntie came too. I never moved father than driving distance away from my parents because they needed me. My parents didn't ask for this, but they needed it and I knew it. Sometimes I feel a little sorry for myself that my kids are so far away. Self-pity is not pretty or fun so I try to stuff down negativity and look for blessings. So far, I've always found many blessings to help me through.
My husband & I went to a local Chinese Restaurant for lunch. The food was delicious and we brought home leftovers. We drove to a nursery in a neighboring town to look for a particular fuchsia that DH wants, but they didn't have any on display. They said they'd have some brought up from the greenhouse in a couple of hours, but they're a random assortment and there is not any way to tell whether the one he wants is among them other than looking at them ourselves. We didn't wait.

Katla, I think a lot of it was, and is self pity. Going to church I knew at least the church gave out flowers to all the Mothers. But the person that usually does it was out of town and therefore no one else took over. So although the service was good, I didn't get my flower. Michelle, did get me some chocolate. The meal, for some of us, was great. everyone ordered steak except for me. I kind of ate good. I ordered chicken breast but it was smothered with bacon, real bacon, mushroom, bbq sauce and cheese. Really tasted good. Several of the family said they wished they had ordered what I had. Discussion stayed away from politics until Charlie started it. No one answered him in anything and he stopped.
So I have heard from both my girls. Christina put a post on FB of a silly picture of us and saying how much ome people love their Moms but she also likes me a whole lot.
Have a good day ladies.

Janet#1 one of the f lowers came Friday and one yesterday. The one one yesterday gave us all quite a chuckle. The attached card had my name on it but the card in side read "Thank you for all you do for us. We love you." Followed by names of seven strangers. I messaged my daughters copying the card asking if it was from one of them. I knew they were from the oldest in Denver. She thot I was teasing her, asked if it really said that, I told her yes. She had me send a picture of the flowers to see if they were what she had ordered, they were. She was going to call the florist.
I was Mom and Dad to the girls all of their growing up years, now that they have families of their own they can really appreciate that. They do go the extra mile to let me know that I am loved and appreciated. We are all three very close tho we live far apart. We three way chat every day. I love it.

Suebdew - cute photo and neat flowers, what a nice honor. Sounds like a fun day. You look GREAT for 77--are you sure that's not a typo? 57 maybe?
Joyce - ((((HUGS))))) - I am sorry your DH isn't sensitive to special days. Mine isn't either - so we agreed many years ago that it's OK to "skip" making a big deal (or even a little deal - like cards) about special days others celebrate such as Birthdays, Valentines, Anniversary, Mother's Day. I now buy myself flowers when I feel like it and say, jokingly, "look what you bought me!" and we hug and have a chuckle. For Christmas, sometimes we buy something big (like a new TV) or he'll get a card or something "from the dog", lol. We have thoughtful friends who give us little stocking stuffer gifts so we have something to open. Since he rarely leaves the house anymore, that's how we do it and have fun. I'll admit it used to bug me a lot.
If your DH used to be very thoughtful about such events, I'd chalk it up to his ill health being so overwhelming now. Some ill folks become more generous, others focus more and more on themselves. I know you've been going through some health challenges lately yourself and I hope you are doing better--sounds like you had a much better day than the way it started out. Happy Mother's Day!!
Karen in VA - that photo of your mom and grandmother is precious. Look at the styles back then - early 50's? Glad you had lots of attention today and that your partner was included. I think your granddaughter has the right idea - and a person cannot have too many neat grandmothers! The more the betterKids are pretty darn smart sometimes and are very good teachers!
Heather, love the family photo with the ex. So happy everyone gets along! Sounds like you have a busy week ahead.
Katla, you remind me of my sister who took such good care of our folks on special days, she lived a few miles down the road from them. Always a little cake or meal with them. My sister's kids, like yours, now live thousands of miles away as well, but I think they are good about calling their folks a lot.
Having a good day here - getting lots of steps in and caught up on reading. Also tried my hand at making "Scotch Eggs" - used Italian chicken sausage and dang me if they didn't turn out yummy! Only hard boiled 6 eggs and used a pound of sausage. DH raved about them. A whole one only has around 150 calories - some fat from the egg and LOTS of protein: no carbs and no sugar! I told DH 2 little Reese cups have that many calories and it's all carbs and sugar. Thought I better grab a photo while there were still some left:
Looks like the latest rainstorm has finally blown past us so will get a walk in.
Oh, and welcome Newbies! This is a great group!!
Have a super week-

Mothers Day turned out great. First I got a card from the pets, then Jake called me while I was walking the dogs to say "Happy Mother's Day". He fixed lunch using the marinara sauce he made yesterday and continued cleaning the carpets today. I like "services" as a gift rather than food or flowers. He has been talking to his spiritual advisers and getting some good direction about not rushing impulsively into a life changing decision.
