WOMEN AGES 50 + FOR NOVEMBER 2017

We had a lovely day's adventure traveling through some beautiful NW Washington scenery and across the water on a ferry. Even so, I managed an approximation of my usual activity.
Stats for today:
*13,000 steps
*100 minutes walking by myself in the neighborhood and then on the ferry
*63 minutes riding the exercise bike
Lisa, thank you for posting the link to your blog and Facebook on the "Women Ages 50+" group.

Made it to Israel. I just woke up. Early here. Hubby still sleeping. He didn't sleep much on the long flight. I slept a few hours. Saw Scotland, the Greek islands and Turkey from 30,000 feet. The rest of the trip was either dark or cloudy. We have a view of the sea from our balcony. I will post a picture once the sun rises. 80 and humid when we landed. I am going to love the weather. The food so far has been incredible, and I've had too much wine. That's what 30 hours of travel does to a person, I guess. Wine to get to sleep. Coffee to wake up, which btw, is also yummy here. No cream needed.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Friends,
Yvonne, there are lots of places around here having their tree lighting this weekend. I know we say it every year, but they are really rushing the season.
Kay, glad you will have a holiday break. You know to prioritize what is important to you and put that first. It’s just not always easy. ((((Hugs))))
Sharon, did you not know your sis wasn’t a good driver? LOL you did give me a giggle. Glad you are safe. OMG I hate it when I get my meds in blister packs. Lol I put mine in a pill minder so I don’t have to question if I have taken them and it’s a pain to get them out. *different strokes*
Allie, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for things to go well. You’re getting close! ((((Hugs))))
Margaret, even though it’s been done for years now, I still find it weird when the church applauds for music. We just didn’t do that when I was growing up.
Katla, I know it’s a hard decision about the boat. Is there a place that you could rent it out until you are ready to let go? Just a thought.
Becca, I hope you are well soon!
Pip, his hair looks fabulous!!! Color, cut and everything. Woo Hoo Oh and I like your hair short, too. I can’t believe with your lifestyles that either of you ever let your hair grow. Lol
Barbie, glad you had a good day.
Katla, I hope you are feeling better real soon.
Felecia, safe travels.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
Today was a rest day. The most I did was make some homemade beef and veggie soup. It’s sort of a cross between soup and stew, but it turned out good. Watched a couple of Christmas movies on and off while cooking.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Ohhh I'm such a fuzzy foggy thing. I got some printed out exercises I shall do tomorrow.
Ohhh we have a neighbor that can't park worth a dayum! She parks next to us. We have a pole on our left, and she has a pole on her right. Well when her kids get into her car, because she parks on the line on the left side of her car, her door hits our door. She has banged our door once before. My husband has green paint so he covered the nick. He also told her. Now its happened again! She is a large woman, and sometimes she backs in, so when she gets out, she leans on her car door which gives us a dent, and white paint mark. So it happened on Wednesday, so that night my husband knocked on her door. He confronted her from the get go! She exclaims, "Then park someplace else". He yells you park someplace else!
And she slams the door on my husband. The manager doesn't get involved (of course he doesn't!). So she didn't park there Thursday, and Friday. Today, when we left for my appointment, she was 5 parking slots down, in the handicap spot, yep she has a placard. So she has to walk further, so we have scared her off her own designated spot, and far away, so she has to exercise a bit. You're welcome rude neighbor! Oye
Pip and Kirby, love the haircuts!! Very much!!

Lazy day today, the DGD is here while her dad is in Chicago for a business meeting. She has a cold so is not feeling like doing a whole lot. We played games and watched some TV. We may try going to the dog show tomorrow after church. She came to practice Wednesday night and is going to sing with the choir tomorrow. I think she will be singing the low part but she is excited to do it.
Linda in Ont - Glad to see you back.
Lenora - Hope you are doing okay.
Yvonne - DD and I actually took a hike today to the back part of our property to see how it fared after the storm last week. Quite a few branches down.
SueBDew and Mary - I also am unable to comment on the news feed. Haven't been able to do so for a while.
Pip - Nice haircuts. Easier to take care of when wearing helmets.
Barbie - Hope you had a wonderful day.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA2 -
Btw, I love, LOVE, LOVE peeps. (Anyone ever roast peeps instead of marshmallows? Yum!)
Some peeps....(picture taken about 1 week before I started dieting this year, lol)

Hi Gals,
Kirby and Pip - you look great – younger and sexy (am I allowed to say that?) and matching cuts are so cute! I’ve added a photo of a wreath that a friend who loves to bike made – it made me think of you.
Becca – hope you feel better quick!
This week is short but feels like it may feel crazy! I have to call on Tuesday night for Jury Duty – seems weird as the court is closed Thursday (thanksgiving) and Friday – but maybe they are prepping for the next week. I’m hoping that they will not need me. It is a huge drag being self-employed and trying to meet commitments for Christmas delivery, but it’s my civic duty and I’ll do it if need be. The courthouse is in a less than desirable part of town (it’s a county courthouse about 45 min each way from home) so that makes it more of a drag too.
I agreed to pick a friend up at the airport tonight and her flight is running early so far! Yea!!!! She was supposed to land at 11:10 and right now it’s supposed to land at 10:50 in San Francisco – the late flights are good and bad, I’m tired but the traffic is light… so being a bit early is great.
Does anyone have any good recipes for green tomatoes? I have made green tomato relish (like pickle relish) and green tomato marinara, not really a fan of fried green tomatoes - but I have probably 200 lbs of tomatoes that are green and hard – and hate to throw them all out. (I planted 50 tomato plants)

Janet's, the ornaments will be recieved andloved with much joy. I think it was Lanetter that asked for a picture of them on my tree. They aren't for me. I will give them to my siblings and daughter. I always put something special in thier stockings and this year it will be Janet's ornaments. Although the more she puts up, the more I want to buy!
Margaret, I love that song you posted.mi will have to look it up. I agree on the applause. When you are singing must in a church you aren't singing a concert, you are singing to God, praising Him. We did have one music minister that would always say that if you feel you must applaud, give your applause to God and not the performers. I am one of them at my church that simply say Amen after a soloist sings. Now the Amen may be a bit heartier if the song was better or not.
I guess I didn't realize that Thanksgiving is this coming Thursday! So I did so,e cleaning in the kitchen and will need to do some big cleaning this week. I'm glad it is just the small group, about 12 of us. The cooking, setting up tables, cleaning and noise will be much easier. I do miss having Christmas at our house. I don't know how Mom and Dad would have handled having Christmas in some lace other than a family home. But when you have two nephews that just keep popping out he babies you just have to make changes. I just wish they would marry. The youngest nephew who is about 22 so far hasn't had any babies. He was engaged after dating only about a month and she was pregnant but miscarried. So he has shown he is as fertile as his brother.
I don't know if any of the rest of you had storms today or not but it was fierce. We didn't have any damage but there were lines down, mores, over and such here in town.
I personally did not like Ketaro's collection on Promect Runway. His was the most artistic but I like wearable things. How is J C Penmy going to sell his things. Now I would love to see Ayana's wedding dress sold. The entire thing including the head piece was fabulous. I think her first couple of pieces did her in. To me they looked more like pajamas. But they were athletic and street wear.
To those who have not followed Project Runway, they had a contestant who was Muslim and her whole campaign was to design for the modest woman. Her necklines were always to the neck, she did make a skirt hat had a slit in it but everything was a modest line. Amd it was very well recieved.
I guess I missed what happened to Lenora. Hope you are OK. I know you have had a problem with seizures in the past.
Love you all Joyce, Indiana3 -
M - I know that if someone is gone for a week and doesn't check in until they come back, I do get concerned that something happened. I guess you could just make a short post "everything's fine" until you get back.
You can log in while you're travelling.
I just did. My previous response to you was while we were away for the weekend. Now we're back. When you've got your laptop and phone with you wherever you go, you can continue to use it wherever you are.
When we were travelling the world in 2012, I was emailing, checking Facebook, etc. from our tent in the evenings wherever we were.

Becca - There is a good utube video on the Epley manoeuvre which is very easy to understand. I did it for my husband. It was scary for him while we were doing it, because the whole world was spinning, but afterwards he was completely fine and has been ever since. It is a total miracle and painless.
There are also instructions on the Internet.

Weight up a couple of pounds, in one of those up and down cycles. Need a few kicks to get me back on track. 4 weeks until Spain trip so need to lose a bit to allow for Spanish food and drink
Boiler still not working, new part been ordered but won't arrive until Tue at the earliest and then we're not sure that will do the trick, if not it is defo new boiler which will probably be another week grrr. Why can't boilers break down when weather is warmer?
PIP love the haircuts

When you say 2, do you mean 2 in the morning? I get up at 2 am as well. 2 am is one hour after I go to bed, and I usually need to get up for a moment then to use the toilet ... and go right back to bed!!0 -
Forgot to ask what on earth are peeps?

Saturday -- My husband and I cycled our November Century!
...
We're a little out of shape this month, and I'm recovering from dental surgery. My stitches are out now, and it's healing well, but in addition to the aches and pains of being out of shape, my jaw is sore!!
Nevertheless, we made it!
Distance: 162.3km
Elevation: 1,477m
Moving Time: 8:27:21
Elapsed Time: 9:58:21
Speed: Avg: 19.2 km/h | Max: 47.5 km/h
When I woke up this morning, my legs were tired which was to be expected, but my right shoulder, right side of my neck, right side of my jaw (the one that is broken because of the dental surgery), and whole right side of my head were in agony.
We loaded up the van, and returned home via parts of another cycling route I am in the process of designing. I had designed it and drew it up in Ride with GPS, but because we don't live in that part of Tasmania, I wanted to check it in person. So there was some stop and start and pulling U-turns, and small narrow roads etc. along the way. By the time we had finished checking the unfamiliar part, and had hit the highway to finish our journey home, my shoulder, neck, jaw and head had gone from bad to worse.
Of course, we stopped for groceries on the way home ... but that was actually not too bad. It was probably good to get out and walk a little bit.
And then, once we had unloaded the van .............. I headed straight for the bedroom and lay down. I was only going to lie down for about half an hour to rest my head, but ended up sleeping for about 1.5 hour!! However, I felt so much better for it!
My husband and I had a nice stroll down to our beach and back this evening, and it was even warm enough we could do the walk at 7 pm in T-shirts ... nice!

I couldn't imagine getting up at that hour! But then, for me, it would mean I've only had 1 hour's sleep ... maybe 2 on a good night. And some nights, especially on the weekend, I go to bed at 2 am!
Well done on the gym work.0 -
Kate - UK, Peeps are little marshmallow chick-shaped things they sell every Easter. I find them cloying and far too sweet, but much like some other things, people are one side or the other, they love them or hate them.
Pip - love both haircuts. Mine's out to the point where it curls, and it's annoying the crap out of me. May try to get it cut this week.
Kim - if you like salsa, do a search for green tomato salsa, and a ton of good recipes come up. You can also snag some tomatillos at the store and roast them, along with your green tomatoes and some onions and even carrots, and make an amazing enchilada sauce that works with chicken and pork. You could probably sell either or both. Look up recipes for "salsa verde."
And I'm up at 3:30 most mornings. Which was a good thing, as I rode along at 4 a.m. so my daughter would have company after she said goodbye to her husband. He's headed for Baltimore, then final destination is Syria. I sent her off to try to sleep some more, and I'm in the living room on my laptop. The kids will be up within the hour, and I'm hoping she can sleep. She's got a long six months ahead of her, even with Corey and me here.
Love y'all,

Happy Sunday everyone! I have finally caught up with reading all of the posts of the past couple of days and I checked out the group site and joined that (it is a pretty sterile site right now), and caught up on Lisa's blog (love, love, LOVE it!) SO...my weekend has been nuts. MIL is back in hospital (she was discharged last Monday to a rehab facility) because she got up on her own and tried to use the bathroom on her own and she fell. Again. Anyway, after two more days in hospital, she is back at the rehab facility, because other than bruising herself up a bit; scans and xrays have shown nothing more serious came of the fall. Thank God.
Lenora- Whoa! Seizures! Glad you are getting yourself checked out! That is scary stuff! I have been wondering where you have been. Take care and sending you healing thoughts and prayers!
Pip - lol I think you and Kirby BOTH look fantastic with short, sporty, punk hair! Throw some bright colored hair paint in there for fun days! You are the epitome of cool.
Felicia-Awesome trip! Have a great time and going to sleep with wine and waking up with coffee is the best way to live your life! Safe travels!
Peeps- I am not a marshmallow peep fan. I can handle a marshmallow or two over a campfire; but even those are too sweet for my taste. I do like the fact that the company that makes them, now has them in all kinds of shapes/characters. I like to get the snowman peeps for my daycare kids. We make home made hot cocoa in the winter and add a snowman peep to each one. We call it Snowman Soup. I like my hot cocoa with a bit of cayenne pepper stirred into it. I can tolerate a small dab of whipped cream, but don't like gobs of that or marshmallows on top. I am also that weirdo that doesn't like the current habit that all coffee shops or vendors of shakes have, of putting about a cup of whipped cream on top of your beverage. Pretty; but no thanks.
I don't know about the rest of you (Women in the U.S.), but I am so excited about having a three day work week this week! Even though Thanksgiving is a holiday that adds a considerable amount of work/cooking/baking to our day(s), it will be so nice to have this time to focus on my family and my home. I will be happily decorating for Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving. I have sent a package off to my DD. With a couple of gift cards to make their Thanksgiving a little easier and a little outfit for Joaquin that says "I'm just here for the PIE". I embroidered a black pi symbol over the "e" in pie; because he is my pi-boy!
Part of my holiday weekend will be trying to sort out the whole insurance kerfuffle with DH being unemployed now. We have insurance currently, through his former employer. We will have it until March. However, as we are in "enrollment" season for ACA, Cobra, et al; they all have sign up deadlines of Dec. 10 or 15 (dates vary). Is this TRULY the only time you can sign up for insurance? We don't need coverage until March and would rather not be paying for two plans....Does anyone know about this? It seems, with people becoming unemployed at any time during the year or changing jobs or whatever...that you should be able to sign up at any time. If any one has any experience with this or knowledge, it would be greatly appreciated!
ON a side note: I turned 51 yesterday. My birthdays are a big thing in my own head. It kind of got lost in the shuffle. My kids remembered and wished me happy birthday. My DYS is taking me out for lunch today as we were both busy (me with MIL and he working) yesterday. DH is sick and in a fog and as I have said before, views birthdays as only a day to recognize the fact that we are old. My birthday has never been about getting things or parties or what ever. Which is fine. I think I am just mourning the fact that I didn't even have the day, or the time in the day, to just sit and celebrate me being alive and being me. Does that sound stupid?! Too busy for myself. Ah well. I am here. I am getting stronger. I am getting healthier in body, soul, and spirit. Here are to many more years of being the best me, yet!
That's all I've got for now. Love and hugs to those who need it! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)8 -
Joyce I agree about wearable. For fun wearable clothes I think Margaritta should have won. Penney's would be smart to approach her. For me I like classic styles that I can wear for more than a few years. I hand wash or wash my clothes on gentle and rarely use a dryer, so my clothes last forever.
Any news on Lenora. Prayers for her as she heals.
Margaret1 -
KJ - HAPPY BIRTHDAY,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drinker: You are a bad girl for not taking care of yourself better and being selfish.
Hope you really, really enjoy your lunch.
A funny thing happened today. I always order loads of things from Amazon, including food and was expecting a big parcel. A big lorry drew up while we were exercising, so I went downstairs, full of anticipation, to accept my big parcel. The man handed over a small package that I had to sign for. I had no idea what it was. When I opened it, it was the Add On item , a small, flat tin of Fried Dace in Black Beans (Chinese ). I had to laugh!
My Barbecoa Beef from Skinny Taste is cooking in the IP right now. I changed the meat to chuck as the eye of round was a bit tough last time. It smells very spicy. I did put in less adobo than in the recipe for DH's sake. We are having it tonight with roasted butternut squash and roasted cauliflower. Then I will portion out the rest and freeze. A big portion is for next Friday - for the visitors. I hope I can jam it in the freezer somewhere, but I have so little space left.
Our 13th wedding anniversary tomorrow . I am cooking (assembling) a three course meal and consuming the special wine my son bought me for my birthday. He is a professional wine expert. It's an oxidised white wine from the Lebanon. :noway: I love oxidised wines so I have high hopes!
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Kelly - Happy Birthday!! I hope you can find some time to make this day special for you.
Regarding your insurance, I believe as long as you have "Creditable Coverage" (the COBRA) you can sign up for new insurance as soon as the old one runs out any time of the year. I've never dealt with the ACA but I have a hunch it's the same as for signing up for Medicare or switching insurances. Does Michigan have a Health Plan hotline or similar where you could ask that question?
Hey, maybe a headhunter will offer your DH the perfect job with super insurance benefits in the meantime.
Good luck!
