im home, my ear is a little better, going to take more meds and go to bed. working 12-6 tomorrow..
wrote a note to Jack who would be my new boss, told him I sort of need definates before I jump ship, paywise, what I would have to pay for insurance.. if working 40 hrs for him and paying for insurance will be worth it, and is there paid holidays and vacation, at my age I need to get paid for these things.. told him to speak with his sister and get back to me..

Terry- I also struggle with fear of returning to the old weight. Strangely enough, it happens with every ten pound increment. What the heck?
Margaret-great news for your DH. Take a deep breath.
Barbie- love the picture of your dance group.
Michele-what is a cheese tree? I am having a party for DH’s golf group and think that would be a good think to serve.
Lisa- great job maintaining after all the changes in your life. Safe travels.

Last night went to the Currey-Del Norte Orchestra's winter concert and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Always "wanted" to go to the symphony, ballet, opera, theatre etc. in Boise but never did during the entire 20 years. Determined to do things NOW despite how VERY DARK it is driving at night out here in the country. Reminds me of living with a group in cabins on the Russian River in the early 70s and no we weren't a commune... quite. Next: Modern Nutcracker put on by the Wild Rivers Coast Dance Foundation at the Middle School, fortunately, a matinee ;)

We do things like that quite regularly. :) It's good to support the arts, and our local theatre and symphony organisations are really good.

Machka 2 weeks in hospital and on Warfarin for a year??? Yikes! Hoping mine are fewer and resolve sooner. Had been on my feet more than usual packing up for the move from Boise to the Oregon Coast. We usually drove it in two easy 6 hour days, but problems with the vehicle trailer turned it into a 5hr and 9hr ordeal. Discomfort started during the first week of unpacking. Saw Chiropractor the following Wednesday week but she focused on shoulders and left the leg alone Thank GOODNESS. Following Monday, Joe took me to urgent care where they did an ultrasound, found nothing and sent me home with pain pills. By Friday I could put no weight on my leg and if Joe or the Dogs brushed against it I shrieked. Went back to Urgent Care who sent me to the ER, a 30 min drive. There the ultrasound showed "lots o'clots" so I spent 3 days in hospital and now I'm on Xarelto.

Sue so now you can see why we all want you to get checked. There is a blood test, but it can give false positives. Ultrasound can give false negatives. The "gold standard" is some kind of dye injection, but if the clots show in ultrasound then you can begin treatment. Take care!

I had the dye thing done many years ago because they suspected a clot, and it was inconclusive. But this more recent time, I had Doppler ultrasound done, and it was clear as day. A regular ultrasound would not have picked them up ... it's got to be Doppler.

From my knee down, my left leg was so full of clots the veins had stopped working entirely and the only reason my foot was getting any blood supply at all was because my body had developed some capillaries which were taking the load. They were only handling a small percentage of the ideal blood flow, but they saved my foot.

Above the knee I had one large clot in a key vein which had blocked it at that point, and again capillaries formed around it. But they were worried about that one breaking loose and travelling to my heart, lungs or brain.

The reason I was 2 weeks in hospital was because we lived so far out in the middle of nowhere, that the Dr didn't want to send me home. If we had lived in a town near the hospital, I could have probably gone home. Plus I was going for Doppler ultrasounds about every other day ... they wanted my clots to dissipate enough so that the veins would open again before I went home. And they wanted my INR level to return to high-normal. When I came in, my INR level was really low, and they kept increasing my dosage of Warfarin, and increasing it, and increasing it ... and it took the whole 2 weeks until my INR level reached the 2-3 range. I was being tested twice a day.

By the time I got out, I was on a huge dose of Warfarin and they wanted me up there for about 6 months before bringing me down to a 1-2 range for the next 6 months. I was going for INR testing once a week. There was some discussion whether or not I would stay on Warfarin for the rest of my life, but my Dr referred me to a blood specialist, and he decided that I could probably go off. Thank goodness! Warfarin is nasty stuff! But because I am genetically inclined to develop clots, it is something I have to keep in mind all the time.

I also had a high homocysteine level which they were concerned about because it can cause heart problems. I'm on a high dose of Folic Acid now for the rest of my life ... and that seems to have brought it down a bit.

:)Margaret, that's great news about your husband's test results

:)Katla, yes, sending a check or gift cards would be less postage but your family will love the thought and care you took with your gifts and you'll be glad you spent the money on the postage.

:)Joyce, there are so many precious things that have occupied shelves, boxes, and closets in my house for too many years. I believe that the memories are not in the things. I've found that many of the memories are in the stories I tell about the things that I have been able to let go of. It has been a process for me to get to this place and I still have a long way to go.

:)Terry, I don't know if I experienced exactly what you're talking about, but one thing that helped me was to make a commitment to an eating and exercising plan that was not connected to what the scale said. I made no changes in what I did whether the scale went up or down. Sometimes I am still surprised that I weigh what I do now. This morning I was scanning photos of myself from 2006 and marveled at how different I look now and how glad I am that I stayed with my plan.

:) I went to a party today which is a rare occurrence for me. I was able to spend time talking to each of the women there. I ate more cheese than I normally do but was able to decline the offer of dessert. Jake waited for me to come home to take the family nap. Because of all of that, it was after 6 PM before I did my strength training. I found myself trying to find excuses to not do it but got past the resistance.

Now I think I've finally finished purchasing all my Christmas decorations. I have hardly purchased anything new since we got our tree (the third one) for Christmas 2013, so this year I thought I'd do a little bit more.

I have one wreath which I made many years ago. A couple days ago, I purchased another plain wreath (just the "pine" stuff) and both then and today I got a bunch of fixings to make up a wreath. I could have purchased a pre-made wreath, but most of the ones I looked at weren't in very good condition ... battered and chipped and whatnot. And besides, it is more fun to make a somewhat unique one.

So tonight I will take apart my old one and remake it ... it's starting to look a little tired. And then make the new one.

And that should be that for my Christmas decorations. Unless I see something else I like when I'm wandering around at lunch tomorrow. :)

Next, I do need to get a move-on with the Christmas presents. It is difficult to find small, light things which people might like.

This evening, the rain is supposed to start, but fortunately at this point, in this area, it looks like it may be light and patchy. That would be wonderful! The orchard cannot take anything more than that, and even that may be too much. I'm really hoping the rain misses the orchard all together. It is supposed to be quite a bit heavier further north, and that's fine with me ... they can have it!

BTW - because the orchard is a business, and most of the cherries are exported to Asia, I usually end up with only one 5 kg box of them toward the end of the season.

I don't mind because cherries aren't my favourite fruit and I'm never sure what to do with them. I can only handle eating a small amount of the raw cherries, and my husband doesn't even want to see them - he's so sick of them by then. So I usually bake a apple-cherry crumbles with them. We both like those! :) If the cherries survive this year ... apple-cherry crumbles will be on the menu again in January.

This morning wii told me I lost the overnight 1.8 lbs, aha, the trick is to get onto the wii before breakfast ;)

Barbie Yess! Thank you so much for the picture of your festively dressed troupe. "Something, something, triple step" LOL! And I love the music to Stealing the Best. Added it to my playlist.
Becca Fractured Fairytales and Dark Shadows, great memories!
Lisa "eating for my life instead of spending my life eating" well said!
Kate, wow not only do they dance on the boardwalk, but they do it in sandals! Benidorm looks so beautiful and sunny!
Margaret, Great news about the clean scan. Sorry you have ice to chip/scrape, sure don't miss that!
Michele, how I miss the water fitness classes we had in Idaho. Cheese tree is a great idea!
Machka thanks for sharing the rest of the story. Your coming back so strongly from such and ordeal tells me my situation isn't so dire. Really appreciate the hope you've given me, just sorry you had to go through so much. I love fresh cherries and white peaches on cottage cheese ;)
Marcelynh 22 stockings? Love the scuba diving shark ;)

The "micro-action" to compile a line dance playlist took almost two hours! Found videos of 23 dances, but couldn't identify another 15. Did she really teach 38 dances last session? Did they really dance all 38 last Halloween? Amazing.

Next "micro-action" will be to finish weeding the flower bed before the rains return...

    Hugs to all,
desismileys_4280.gifBarbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.

    Today
    :( no dancing/BP/80%

    It took a while ...

I was diagnosed right around July 31, 2009. They encouraged me to walk, but even just a walk around the block was incredibly difficult for the first month. I'd walk a few steps, then have to stop and catch my breath, then walk a few more steps ... and a long time later, I'd make it around the block. At some point in late September, I got back on my bicycle again and my first ride was a slow 6 km ... and I felt like I had ridden about 60 km by the end.

By November, I had started dabbling in long distance cycling events again (100 km/60 miles and longer) ... but my success rate was about 50/50. I'd finish one just barely within the time limit ... and DNF the next one. So incredibly frustrating!!!

Then at Easter 2010, my favourite bicycle was stolen out of the campground we were staying in. :heartbreak: Two weekends later, I rode a 300 km event on a "frankenbike" my husband put together for me, and finished it only because it was a flat ride in excellent conditions, but then I went into a depression. Struggling so much to do these rides I used to love ... without my favourite bicycle. I struggled to do anything at all for several months. I'd slowly plod to work, put in my day, plod home, and curl up on the sofa in fleece and under several blankets. One side effect of Warfarin was that it made me very tired, another was that it made me very cold. And I put on weight and edged into "overweight" for the second time in my life.

Various people in the Audax/Randonneuring community were concerned about me ... which still kind of surprises me, but shared experience like that does tend to make family out of a scattered group of people. We had stopped in at a bicycle shop run by a friend and Audax member in Melbourne at the end of August 2010. I just kind of limply wandered around the shop, but my husband chatted with the shop owner about what had happened ... he had some idea already ... and next thing we knew, he had offered us his tandem. He and his wife weren't using it then, and he told us we could use it for a few months ... maybe it would help me.

I wasn't overly enthusiastic ... I wasn't overly enthusiastic about anything and just wanted to get back to my blanket nest.

But we had both owned and ridden tandems before (although not together), so we gave it a go. That came with some challenges since we're both very strong, independent riders!! Nevertheless, we got into the swing of things and started doing events on the tandem, and finishing them! In about February 2011, we bought our own tandem and returned the other, thanking them profusely, and continued to ride events and all sorts of other rides on our own tandem. And I lost weight, back to normal!

Later in 2011, we even took on the 7 Peaks Challenge in Victoria (Australia) on our single bicycles. I am not a climber and I think that was party why I wanted to take on that challenge. It wasn't timed and we could do each of the 7 climbs whenever we wanted within a certain time period (Oct 2011 - March 2012). We could also try them several times if we didn't happen to make one. And we did it! All 7 climbs! We even did 3 of them all in one weekend!! I was back! :)

Epilogue: In 2012 we took off around the world (Gained weight again, oops! Too much good food out there!) and returned in 2013 to the same location where we had started. Middle of one afternoon I received a very excited call at work from my husband. He had been browsing ebay for cycling stuff ... and found my stolen bicycle. Various steps taking about 10 days - a very stressful, nail-biting 10 days - and I had my favourite bicycle back.
