Machka - good you got in a run and some other exercise. I'm sure your DH looks forward to your visits a lot even tho he can't spring up from the bed and hug you quite yet.
Unfortunately I don't think he has any concept of time ... or not much anyway. I could spend 10 min there or 6 hours (as I have done on occasion ) and I don't think he would know the difference.
They tell me that they think he might recognise my voice but doubt he recognises my face. And he has no reaction at all when I say my name.
He's also a long way off standing. He's just accomplished breathing and now they are working on getting him to swallow. They figure that might happen in 2 or 3 weeks unless he suddenly catches on to it sooner. He managed to do it for about 45 min yesterday but was in too much distress then to continue.
So while he is making improvements and every little improvement makes me happy, they are small improvements and some days there are none at all.
But one doctor told me to look at it a week at a time rather than day by day. That was helpful. Just over a week ago his eyes were independent and fixed. Now they are synchronised and tracking. And occasionally it even appears that he focuses. A week ago he wasn't breathing on his own ... now he is.
It's all baby steps ... one week at a time. Kind of like how we lose weight!

Heather UK That is so exciting!!!!!!
Rebecca- That is a beautiful view!
It has been a productive day here. Ready to buckle down on work paperwork while viewing some recorded TV.

Machka- We continue to hold you in our prayers and on our shoulders. I like the doctor's view. Sometimes it can be hard to see the changes when looked at too closely.

Allie, well, better late than never, I guess! (about the will). Have to admit, going somewhere where there's seven dogs would make me need to take a nap too! lol
Becca, the new place looks so very nice! What a great find for the three of you!
KetoneKaren, your brother is a very talented man! That painting is quite incredible!
Heather, so sorry that you are feeling out of sorts about your book, kind of weird that they would get back to you so late! Hope you manage (or managed) to get some sleep, you and hubby both.
Machka, glad to hear that your life is returning even a little bit to something approaching normal. Keeping you both in my thoughts.
Lisa, so glad you have arrived! I'm sure Egg will settle soon enough, especially since she's still young, it shouldn't be too traumatic for her. Even our old girl managed to settle within a few weeks. It was just a matter of finding a spot that she felt was hers. We settled on the bottom of an occasional table, put her cushy blanket there and she was quite comfortable. She was also close to our chairs, so I could just reach down and give her a scratch, I think that helped a lot.
We had renters, but only very briefly. I'm only going to hit the important parts of this story, too long and boring otherwise. My parents, hubby and I bought a duplex almost 30 years ago. Mom passed and then Dad passed and we had to decide what to do with the other half. We knew we would sell eventually, but needed to figure it out in the meantime. I was selling off some of their stuff (and mine, if I must be honest!) on a site here called varagesale. It's like a virtual garage sale. Anyway, this woman came over to buy some stuff and her and a friend of hers ended up renting the house for almost a year! They were wonderful, I have to say. She asked if she could clean it in exchange for 1/2 months rent so they could move in mid December. I didn't even hesitate! I said yes! I did shampoo the carpets and hubby and I did some reno in the bathroom, very basic stuff, but the toilet had sprung a leak and the vanity was just a piece of garbage. The floor was trashed also, so we fixed that up, only spent two or three hundred (can't remember now!) on the bits and pieces and did the work ourselves. It looked like a new room, especially after it got painted too! I felt bad when they were moving out because she cleaned it then too, and then it got torn down. We sold to a developer and he tore down the whole thing, which was a good thing, they were both ready to fall down, and they are putting in 8 townhouses. They are going to be small, but the location is great, close to schools and shopping and the bus route. But I sure don't miss the area, the traffic was just getting to be too much. So much more peaceful in the new place!
That's it for me for now. Welcome to the newbies, congrats to those celebrating victories, hugs for those who need them!

Having trouble uploading pictures! That is not the picture I wanted to post but I will try again later! Now it won't let me post any at all.4

Donnakelly2015 - your message sounds like my life. Lol. I have tried Idea Protein and it was ok, but not a lifestyle change. My weight goes up and down constantly. I think my thyroid is still out of whack. The doctor has me on 112mg for the last month but not sure if it has helped. I will go back for tests at the end of the month Nice to see all your “spring” photos everyone. We are expecting 10-20 cm of snow here tomorrow. The weather is sucking in Canada.3

Did some of the Daily Exercise Routine DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do some on the hula hoop, hold my plank, then take the extremepump class.
Was eucharistic minister at mass this morning, went to return water to Food Lion since it wasn’t what Vince wanted and I just wanted to get it out of the house, now here. We’re under a tornado watch. I’m supposed to go to this place, Wine & Design, to finish my picture (which doesn’t look half bad from 5 feet away….lol)
I hear thunder and the wind is quite strong. Last time it was so windy, one of the dead trees at the back of our property blew down. Sure wish some of the trees that I’d like to get rid of would blow down.
Lisa – so glad you got there safe and sound
Karen in VA – beautiful artwork your brother did
Claudia – welcome. Awesome weight loss
Betty – what happens to the brass item or your hands if you touch the brass after using the Brasso. Do you have to use a lot of elbow grease? How long do you have to continue not touching the item without gloves?
Lanette – we have a Soma bed (water cylinders) and never have to flip it. Vince wanted this mattress topper for it. Personally, I feel we did fine before so I wouldn’t be bothered with it. But that’s just me. He like things really soft and I prefer it harder. With the cyliners you can adjust the amount of water in them so his side is softer than mine.
Probably overate yestery. Not sure by how much since it’s hard when you go out. But my stomach feels like it was taxed yesterday.
Heather – how exciting!
Went to Wine & Design and finished my painting. It definitely looks better from 5’ away!!! It’ll go in the condo so I don’t have to look at it much.
Allie – what a place to find the will! Glad you did find it, tho
Machka – you are one strong lady. Thanks for keeping us informed. Only good thoughts for you both
Mary – is there a special reason you moved?

Machka, how awful it must be to see someone you love with such a traumatic injury to the brain. So very scary when you don't know when or how much he will recover. And you must feel very helpless to do much of anything. I really feel for you. Progress can just crawl at times.
Heather, I have been through the CreateSpace process three times. I actually went to a two-day course where they walked you through the steps. LOL I think the edit approval people must be in USA which accounts for late emails. I chose to upload my own pictures instead of using one of theirs. The formatting of the type is a bit tricky. I think next time, I would get one book sent to me as a hard copy so I can see if I like the lay out and how it actually looks printed. So many things to decide on, but it is really empowering to make the choices. And to know that if you don't like it, you can re-do it, choose a different size book, different type, different cover...whatever. Consider this your practice run, because it is really easy to change things.
I am at work right now, waiting for an accounting blip to be ironed out. Then I will go spend the rest of the day with the grandkids who are visiting right now. House looks like we've been robbed. Anything that can be tipped out has been. But I know it's only temporary chaos.

Roundbutsound: Don't worry about feeling your comments may be stilted. Share anyway whenever you feel like it. We are all more eloquent some days than others. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: I agree that we are lucky to live beside water, even though we have to pay for flood insurance. I have to admit that the flood insurance is costly, but I'll be happy we have it if our house ever floods. We were able to buy this place after a 100-year flood because the original buyer backed out. The worst things we've had to deal with in the past few years are sea lions and raccoons. The sea lions jump onto the docks in the marina in front of our home and bark all night when the salmon are running. :grumble: This means we can't sleep. We've had a couple of beaver sightings in the last few days. They've been dragging woody plants underneath a neighboring floating Yacht Club House. :ohwell: The worst part of all of this is that DH is no longer able to go aboard our boat, let alone sail it. We fell in love with sailing as newly-weds in our early 20s. He can't be aboard any more. This is why I spend time riding horses. I love riding, but miss the couple time and adventures aboard the boat.
Janetr: Grandchildren are among the rewards of a life well lived.
DonnaKelley2: Welcome! :flowerforyou:
Becca: I suspect the humidity on Whidbey Island is about the same as Astoria & surrounding communities. You seem to be happy and settling in well. Congratulations!
(((Heather))) Congrats!
Karen in VA: You aren't a kid anymore. You will undoubtedly make very good choices during retirement and have a great life. If you get bored you can work part time or volunteer.
(((Machka))) You are amazing, strong and loving.
I had a riding lesson today & it is obvious I have a lot left to learn. I did have a good time and picked up some new ideas. I'll call it a win although I think my teacher would shake her head and sigh.

Here are some before pictures of my niece’s craft room, which I organized into a combo craft/nursery room. I’ll post after pictures separately.

Matchka: No words, just hugs and strong thoughts and visions of your DH emerging back to health.
To everyone in the path of the storms and blizzards, wish I could send you some of our Colorado 70 degree sunshine. I spent 5 hours this weekend working on repotting perennials on my little deck. One of the plants came from my late neighbor friend. It is a huge prairie grass that grows like a weed. The plastic pot was chipping apart from the overgrowth, so it got a new home. I felt my friend's energy every minute I spent with my hands in that soil.
Made a chicken curry tonight with steamed broccoli slaw and rice for DH. Yum!
Stay well friends and have a great week. We can do this.

Here are the after pictures. I organized, my sister put the crib together, my sister and I shopped for the dresser, rocker, and rug, my niece decorated, and my niece’s husband hung the curtain rods and attached the shelves to the wall so they couldn’t be pulled over on climbing toddlers. It took me a day and a half to whip it into shape. I would have liked to have discarded more, but you can’t expect a clutterbug to give their stuff up that easily.

Katie That is a fabulous transformation! I love that craft room/nursery you created! Wowza!!!
Katla That is good advice. Thanks for the vote of confidence!
Machka I am so glad you are able to regain some semblance of balance in your life. And so sorry that your husband's progress is agonizingly slow. It isn't unusual for brain injury, but when the progress is measured incrementally, it must be very trying. (((Hugs)))
This is a picture of my brother taken 8 years ago when my granddaughter was one year old. He is the artist.

Janetr- Olivia is absolutely darling!! How could a person stop kissing those little cheeks? Thanks for sharing her with us. What a doll!
Kelly (KJ): I'm waving back at you! I remember you are in Michigan, correct? I'm going to have to look for you on my map. LOL! I'm glad you won't get the snow! We had 18" this morning when I woke up and an additional 11" falling all day. It's crazy! My DH has been out shoveling a path to the bird feeder several times today because he feels so bad for the birds in the wind and cold sitting and looking at the feeder! He is such a softie. He keeps going out and chopping the frozen seed and making sure the bunnies and squirrels have some on the ground too. I guess it will be in the 40's and 50's starting around Friday, so I sure hope this is the last snowfall for a long while!
I work for a health clinic organization and they've closed all the clinics in our county and surrounding counties until noon tomorrow, so I guess the one good thing is I get to sleep in a little. It's a good thing I happened to check my work email or I would have shown up at 7:30 a.m. I'm guessing they need time to clear parking lots and salt sidewalks so patients don't slip.
Lanette: I will have to check out TuneIn. I have earbuds in my tablet and I take it to bed every night. I read or look at Pinterest while I listen to podcasts or stories. I have one app called Stitcher that I use to listen to old time radio shows...like the old radio mysteries. Johnny Dollar, Dragnet, and some others. I loved listening to those when I was a kid and I still do. I fall asleep usually listening to it and never hear how the stories end!
Karen in VA Your brother is a very talented artist! I'm sorry to hear about his struggle. (((hugs)))
Rebecca I love your house! Love your view! Just lovely. I especially smiled at your old phone! I have not seen one of those in many years. Nostalgia came pouring in...
Machka I haven't been following the past month or two, so I apologize that I don't know the reason your DH is in the ICU but I want you to know how sorry I am. It must be absolutely heartbreaking and I am sending you hugs and prayers.
drkatiebug That is an amazing transformation! Nice job! I love that dresser. So quaint!
Time to put away my laptop and pay attention to my honey. Good night ladies. Have a safe and restful night!

One more of the craft wall, organized, but before decorating. They say you can’t organize clutter, but I sure did try. Lol. We did move the step stool and bags out and relocate the tote to the closet.
6 -
Michele- we moved to a different spot so that we could get Internet and cable. They only have it on this wall. They do have free Wi-Fi but it does not come in very well with everybody using it.
I thought you might enjoy this picture of my nephew and his dad!
Have a fantastic evening everyone!

Mary in Arizona What a beautiful spot! I'm jealous. You have a beautiful dog by the way. I remember pictures of him when he was a puppy in Minnesota! I'm thinking of getting a dog since we lost our 13yo black lab, Jack, in November. Thinking of getting a rescue, but I've been seeing quite a few German Shepherds. Are they hard to train? Good with kids (grandkids?)
Your nephew's picture is hilarious, by the way! hahaha! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Gals,
Pip – good news/bad news, I’m with you I would just want to know so a fix could be found….
Tammie -welcome, you sound like you’ve got a great start
Carol and Michele – I’ve never had a colonoscopy either, but will be having one this year. For me it was no family history and they did the stool check instead but with my brother terminal colon cancer, I’m being scheduled for one and am considered much higher risk.
Machka – oh that is good news !!!! the frowns and facial reactions show he is processing things!!! Still sending good thoughts to you both
Kate – UTI – just a thought and not sure it is proven in a medical study, but my mom used to get UTIs all the time she now does 4 ounces of cranberry juice every single morning and has not had one in 10+ years, and she would get 4-8 a year!
Rye – glad to see you back, and the inter-twined cat picture is cute!
Janetr – what a great picture!
Karen – the picture your brother did is stunning
Mary – got a giggle looking at the snow picture!
I’m having a hard time with my eating with the stress of my brother’s situation, my mom is taking it hard (not a surprise) and also not a surprise is leaning on me, I’m soothing with sweets, not good! I decided to meal plan the whole week to see how that goes… I have meals I am looking forward to, I know I am better if I am full.. any bit of hunger + stress = sugar! So I may eat on the high side or eat back some exercise calories to keep the sugar away.

Tracie- nice to see you posting! Thanks! Sorry about Jack. German Shepards are great with everyone if trained properly. Shep is extremely loving and gentle with little kids and dogs. They need discipline though or are smart enough to become the boss. I still have a training collar on Shep especially when we go to the dog park. He has been attacked several times because of his size is intimidating to other dogs. He is really tall and long. He will probably get over 125 pounds. So I use it to call him away from other dogs that are aggressive. I would definitely recommend this breed. You probably got some of the snow that hit Minnesota! My nephew and his dad have a great sense of humor!

I fought with MFP all week trying to upload a photo. Several ladies have said they were not able to log food. What a pain. Oh cute I see you got your photos up.

My old rotary 1957 black phone works! We found it on EBay for $40, and there was an adaptor on it. It's loud!
Our son on it! Sit son sit!
My husband before his surgery last month. Such a silly man!

KIM thanks for the reminder about cranberry juice, I might try that for a month leaving off the antibiotic.
Getting hair colour done today, yay, can't stand the grey roots
Day 6 of week 2 of KB workout must get to it now
Hugs for those who need them, especially Machka

Morning, stormy, windy night, power went out and quickly back on so luck was with us. Wind is still howling, gonna be a weird Monday! I've got my food prepped, roast chicken with salad for the my lunches this week, homemade hummus and guacomole for snacking with cucumbers and a baked oatmeal that was made with sweet potato and no sugar and oh yeah I made a delightful tahini salad dressing with lemon and just a touch of olive oil, this will be quite tasty on the salad.
DH and I took a drive to visit MIL yesterday and I spoke with DH about my feeling so blue, he was quite good about it all, and kept pointing out the buds on the trees and the bits of color starting to appear on the bushes. I've just got to keep moving forward and making good choices/ Remember that old saying " dress for the job you want, not the job you have" well I'm gonna try act like how I want to feel..... Good Morning! I'm back!6

Tere, hello! Hope life is treating you well... It's been a while since we've seen you.
Katiebug, love the craft room/nursery!
Machka, really like the doctor's advice of considering his progress over a week at a time, rather than in moments or days. Always felt it was much harder to be the partner than the patient. Very glad to see you taking back your own health and fitness, so you can be there for him, as well as feeling more like yourself.
Mary, beautiful place!
Tracie, good to see your face again, as well! Don't envy the snow at all...
So, I finally found the box with the bathroom scale, and after getting on it, it said I weighed 90.4 pounds! Put my glasses on, and realized the kg button had been bumped, and it said I weighed 90.4 kilograms! Which, translated for my non-metric friends, is 199.3 pounds! Found One-derland, finally! Not surprised, after this marathon weekend, but very, very pleased.
Egg is not only doing better, but as I type this, is watching the words appear on the big TV screen with much fascination. She's never been able to watch my work appear across the room, and will have to yell at her in a minute, as she'll want to jump up by the TV. She already has done, once! We've got my laptop hooked to the big TV for the moment, as we're using my phone as a hotspot and have been watching Britbox on Amazon when we relax for a few minutes. Finally finished all nine seasons of "As Time Goes By." First time I got to see the whole story from beginning to end, instead of just what they were willing to put on PBS!
Yep, had to yell at her. Between the clicking behind her, and the letters appearing out of nowhere, it's more than a kitty can stand!
As soon as I get done with y'all, have to finish getting the home inspection finished, as the management company's over this morning, and once that's done, I can finally start putting shelf paper down in the kitchen, so we can get that straightened out today. Yesterday was the most expensive day... bought a bedroom set, living room chairs and tables, bits and bobs that we needed to replace, like a shower rod and curtain. Then went to Lowes and bought a refrigerator, a small freezer, and washer and dryer. Thanks to selling the warehouse, we won't go in debt for them, but do want to replace the money in savings at first opportunity.
The furniture will come in tomorrow, and the appliances this weekend. We bought a mini-fridge on Saturday, first thing, which will do us until then, and as soon as we can find our clothes, will have enough to get us through to next weekend, hopefully. I know they're around here somewhere!
Tomorrow, I also need to run up and get my son in Fayetteville, AR, and bring him down here for a medical appointment with the VA at 12:30. Then one or both of us will run him back up there. It's a bit over an hour away.
Other than that, the whole of this week is just putting the house in order, as I'm back at work next Monday. Will need to wear my earpiece today, as some e-mail messaging I saw this weekend means I'll be getting some questions on scheduling my travel around an allocation meeting, but no biggie.
Love y'all,
Lisa in Arkansas (and One-derland!)
