Katla - I check the "choose files" box. Or it might say "browse". That takes you to your own photo files on the computer, or tablet, or phone.

Our government has just started charging extra tax on fizzy drinks, depending on how much sugar they have in them. Many brands have lowered their sugar content. Some, including Coca Cola, have not, so the price has to go up. We call them, fizzy drinks, pop, or soft drinks. Not soda, as that means soda water to us. I like the French, "boissons fraiches". The guys carrying the big, chilled boxes used to call it out all along the beach when I was 11.

Welcome Newbies,
Heather that is some cruise you are going on. Sounds like lots of fun. I have always told my hubby not to book us on a cruise because I'm claustrophobic and I think sleeping in a room on a ship would feel like a Titanic coffin to me, so I will stick to land travelling. (It would make a great setting for a murder mystery Agatha Christie style though) LOL
Katla, well done on the gate success. That is the same thing my Asperger's student is working on with her mare. It is a good test of control and communication...and patience. She was elated to achieve it on our last trail ride. LOL
Rye, glad to know you are lurking still, even with life happening. Hope you are keeping well.
At my husband's farewell party, I had a talk to management and have been told they plan to transition my job in June...so now I have a farewell time frame of my own to count down. I don't know WHEN in June but at least I have the month! It's not long really. I hope I can retire and don't have to take on another job but we'll just see how the finances pan out. Still waiting to be paid out so we can get rid of a mortgage. Next week I think...I hope.
Yep, life is happening here too, the grandkids are coming to stay for a week, there will be chaos and mess and noise and laughter and food and disruption.

Wendy - Our cabin is directly behind the bridge on the top of the ship. It has double French windows directly onto the deck and contains a nice lounge area with a sofa and coffee table. Definitely not a coffin! We have a bath and shower. When we wake up in the morning we draw back the curtains and can see where we are. We can step straight out for a closer look and the sun deck is a few steps away.
My DH is very claustrophobic, so we paid for a very good "suite" so he wouldn't feel closed in. He thought he would hate cruising as he doesn't like lots of strange people and is easily seasick. He doesn't like the cold and he is claustrophobic. He only came with me the first time after a lot of debate. I really wanted to go up to Penny's Arctic, even before I knew she lived there! Since that cruise we have been on another to the Baltic (St Petersburg etc) in the same cabin and this year another Baltic cruise, in the same cabin. After next year they are retiring the ship so we will have to try their sister ship.
They are Saga no fly cruises for the over 50s. Most people are 70+. They pick you up from your house. We have our own table for two as we have nothing in common with the passengers, but we get on brilliantly with the crew! The late night pianist becomes our friend.
It's impossible to describe how much we love it. We have our own butler.

Morning afternoon and evening all...
Changed my personal picture, don't know if it will work or not, but figured it was worth a shot. Two more days of work, then two more days of driving.
Rye - good to see you, hope all the life happenings are positive.
Re-Becca - it looks lovely and spacious and wonderful.
We won't actually get pictures of the inside of our new digs until we're on the way on Friday, but the management company assures me they're putting in new carpet across the entire house, and vinyl plank flooring in the dining room. They're literally finishing up the floors on Friday while we're on the way. The painters finished up earlier this week, I gather. It's a three-bedroom, two-bath, so my husband will be able to have his own bathroom again, which we are both looking forward to.
Will have to buy a bed (we have the futon to sleep on the first night) and a washer & dryer, as well as a dining table and chairs. My husband and I assured each other that, for once, what we buy will be going with us when we leave, so we'll be looking for quality furnishings that will last for a decade or two. They'll have to come out of the warehouse sale money for now, and we'll replace it in savings at first opportunity. As soon as we get somewhere close to settled in, he'll be out looking for work. It will be a relief not to be the sole source of income again!
For now, we have a love seat to sit on in the living room, and folding tables will do for my office for quite some time. He bought me a wonderful office chair for Christmas, and it's far more important than the work surface.
Then back to work for only one week, and head for Texas once more for my job--but driving this time, in easy stages. Eight different hotel in ten days, as I'm going to be driving to quite a few different places. Not my favorite thing, but need to catch up with a number of different funders, so well worth it!
Off for my second cup of coffee,
Love y'all!
Lisa in NC9 -
Lisa I think I'll join you on that second cup of coffee!
I'm enjoying all the happy news from folks, impending retirements, big moves, travel, new fences, so terrific to share in the excitement.
Me? just a regular ol' day ahead, but I'm happily packing my delightful lunch and anticipating some spring shopping for the garden this weekend. I can't wait to bring some beautiful seeds and plants to start my little backyard garden, I'm using more containters this summer since last year was so successful.
Have a great day everyone, NYKAREN5 -
Rebecca - LOVE your new place! It is gorgeous. You definitely have moving down to a science. I miss my slide outs in my cabinets. We had remodeled our kitchen at the old house and it was just what I wanted. Moved here and gave up all those little bells and whistles for a bigger kitchen and more land. It's a good change, but I do miss those bells and whistles.
Cindy - Welcome, jump right in. I was also 49 when I joined in last summer. I've lost 83 lbs with the encouragement of these ladies.
Katla - Yeah for having a good day with Arrow!
Lisa - You forgot the wakeup, my favorite part. Safe travels!
Wendy - Yeah for having a retirement date! I hope it all works out for you. You are right, June isn't too far off.
Machka - Continued prayers
As for me, I am ecstatic that it is the last day for my fruit and it will be gone! Tomorrow I get to eat varied food instead of the same fruit and yogurt and salad every meal. I realized I had bought yogurt based on the hubs eating some every day too. Since he is unexpectedly gone (and me too for 5 days), I have yogurt to eat before it expires as well. I have it all lined up in the fridge in expiration order. The good news is I will get it all eaten before it expires.
Knowing what I am going to eat isn't unusual, I plan and log my meals on Fridays normally for the following week and then shop for the ingredients on Friday morning. If I change my mind, I just change my food log. As I cook things, I check the weights and make changes as needed. Most of the stuff I've cooked enough I know how much of each item I will be using. It helps keep me on track and keeps me from putting extra things in my mouth because I know I've already accounted for all my calories.
Welcome to the newcomers, hugs to those that need them, high fives to those with accomplishments and good thoughts for all.

“Trish I feel your pain about the orthodics, it is an investment to find just the right thing, for me it was the vionic shoes ($50-$120), the SOLE slip on slippers ($45) and skeechers sneakers (pretty inexpensive). You'll get pain free, but it will take time and a lot of stretching.”
Thanks KAREN, LANETTE ,KATLA ,HEATHER ,TERRY& all for orthotic info. Have a very high instep that flattens most shoes in no time.NB has been my go to shoes for yrs.I am never barefoot, wearing Vionic slippers inside.Feet are hard to fit,so looks like I will visit DD’s Dr this summer.Bite the bullet for orthos.

Most of us have dips, bumps & struggles.Don’t let depression grab hold.
You are much more than a wt gain.So am I & all of us. My sermon for today.
Looked into vinyl for bedroom floor, but decided against. We are thinking of selling in the next 2-3 yrs & most ppl

They just don't tell you how many things there are to deal with when stuff like this happens. How many decisions you've got to make, forms you've got to fill out, people you need to meet with.
Machka in Oz
Machka ... having read your posts over the last few months, I can't think of anyone more suited to "dealing with this stuff." Not that it makes it easier ... I understand that ... I just think your husband is extremely blessed to have someone as efficient as you are on his side! Continuing prayers for you both.

Just been for my run round the lanes. I think every tractor and trailer in the area was out. I had to stop several times to let them pass. The last time I stepped to the side only to go into mud up to my ankle!!!!
I needed that run because this morning I was trying to put my book onto Createspace. I am NOT tech savvy, nor a publisher and I panic when confronted by anything that requires attention to detail. Grrrrrrrrrr! However I made some progress and I know what I have to do next. The website is very helpful, but I am extremely ignorant. Most of it is gobbledegook to me. I should have the inside of the book ready tomorrow, then to have a go at the cover.

went to Estate attorney this morning, my DB and I , basically only asset my dad has is his home, and if we want to keep it have to pay off reverse mortgage if not we clean it out and sell it, the reverse mortgage company gets there cut and the rest of the creditors get theres and we get squat... this is why we need to get affairs in order ahead of time as to not leave it to our children.6
-
Allie - Empty the house, get the stuff out of it; that way you at least get something and NOT straddled with paying off 2nd mortgage (reverse mortgage is simply that); let them sell it. If there is no money to pay other creditors, that still won't be you and your brother's responsibility - those were your Dad's debts. He made bad choices, y'all did not sign up for any of it; if your children don't want whatever you get out of the house, sell it. Walk away basically debt-free. Hope by opening up a bank account as an equity or estate account; won't make it where 2nd lien people can get their hands on anything else that might have been a part of his estate (such as money in the bank, any investments, and the like). Again, you need to check with an attorney familiar with your states laws concerning your Dad's choices and what, if any, reflect back on you. Even 'if' your brother wants to 'flip the house' the 2nd mortgage would have to be paid off before he could sell it. I'm sorry; 'flipping a house' is a BIG gamble, unless he is able to do all the work himself. Being an older home (I would think) the electrical and basement are huge money pits.
I just could not go back and read 8 pages of posts - have to redo colonoscopy; prep did not work. Going to ask MD about a certain prep which was taken by a friend of a friend; and she is going to get it for when she has hers in May.
Lenora6 -
Heather: Thanks for the suggestion about photos. I'll try it. :flowerforyou: Regarding fizzy water, the East Coasties talk about soda, but most of us out west call it pop or soft drinks.
Wendy: You are definitely right about gate opening being a test of patience & communication. Yesterday I could not get Arrow to open the gate with his right side to the gate, but he would do it willingly when I approached the gate on his left side. The hinge is on the right, so I wondered if he objected to having so much of the gate against his body, or if he is "left brained." Is that a nutty idea?
Lisa: I hope you enjoy your work trip and that the move goes just as planned.
Karen in VA: Thank you so much for the Haiku!!! I'm copying it and saving it!
Allie: Lenora is usually very savvy about legal matters. I hope you'll consider what se has to say. Ask your own lawyer for advice on how to avoid being saddled with your dad's debts. :flowerforyou:
Lenora: Sorry about your colonoscopy redo. The prep was one of the worst experiences I can remember, mainly because of the distance from my house to the medical facility. When DH had his we got a hotel room near the medical facility & he did his prep there. No long commute with the horrible urge to go. It was worth the price of the hotel room. I hope this isn't too much info.
I attended a city meeting last night and felt like it went well, but it was a long meeting and I got home very late. Resting up seems like a good plan for the day.

Kelly ... I understand what you mean about getting too comfortable can be a problem. If I go around in comfy clothes I gain weight. I just do. But if I wear my jeans with stiff zippers and waist bands ... I'm reminded when I've eaten too much.
Terry ... I am right where you are right now. Only I've gained back 40 pounds ... and I'm as mad as can be at myself. All that hard work and I just let it slide back on. But I refuse to give up. Each morning I start again. Interestingly, in that year review thing with MFP ... my most logged food was coffee. Why? I only drink one cup a day. Because each morning I start with MFP ... sometimes don't get past breakfast in my logging, but I do retry every day. Hugs to you!
Becca ... love the photos of your new place! Enjoy!
Rye ... sorry you're dealing with life stuff ... hugs.
