WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2018

Hi all,
Still trying to adjust to 'real' life.
DH has been valiantly dealing with estate agents, trying to get some sense out of them. I'm keeping out of it as I lose my temper too easily. Our vendors haven't entirely given up, but they are 'discouraged' as they can't find anything.
Our buyers still seem to be on track.
We had a look at properties online yesterday, but there is almost nothing in the area we like.
We are pretty fed up as you can imagine.
DH at cricket again. Normally I like having the house to myself, but right now it gives me too much time to think.
I weighed myself this morning, but I knew it was a mistake as I inadvertantly ate a lot of salt yesterday and hadn't had a BM.
I will weigh again tomorrow and hope my body has settled. I hope I haven't gained too much on the cruise.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -

I read a comment today from someone on one of the boards that when your goals are set to lose 2lbs per week it is too aggressive for people under 200 because it is less than 1% of your body weight.
What does everyone think of this, is it true or is it an individual thing?
Tracey in Edmonton
When I started with MFP, I set my goal at 0.5 kg (or approx. 1 lb). As it happened, I lost 2 lbs/week ... wasn't planned, but the weight just dropped off. In 16 weeks, I dropped 15 kg, and was comfortably within my normal weight range again.
Then I took a 1-month diet break, and when I resumed, I deliberately went a little less aggressively. I increased my calorie intake by 100 cal/day, and over the next 16 weeks, I dropped 10 kg.
But I wouldn't deliberately set my goal to lose 2 lbs/week. I know how few calories I'd have to eat to accomplish that, and it wouldn't be pretty.

Thank you, I am finding the 1200 calories a day very hard to meet. Maybe I'll up mine a little bit.
When I started, MFP gave me 1250 calories, which was OK. About 3 weeks later, after I'd dropped some weight, it dropped me to 1200 calories, which I didn't like. Those extra 50 calories allowed me one last snack in the evening. So I upped it manually to 1250 calories.
BUT ...
I exercise every day. When I log my exercise, I usually choose the light/slow options for my exercise, and then when I'm actively losing weight, I eat about half my exercise calories back.
So, if I walk for an hour, and thus burn 200 calories, I would have an extra 100 calories to eat!
1250 calories + 100 exercise calories = 1350 calories for the day.
It's a win-win thing. I enjoy exercise and if it gives me more calories for the day ... great!

Having my coffee with Cafe Bella protein then off to early dental appointment, just routine clean and check. Then home to clean house. How DOES it get so dusty so quickly?

Michele and Katla I too am a fan of Corelle. We like them because they are so light. Easy to load and unload the dishwasher.
Had a lovely time eating at one of the nicest outdoor patios in town with one of my friends yesterday. We both bypassed the bread basket. NSV. I am able to find items on menus that fit my diet. I had a curried chicken salad on a bed of lettuce.
Today we are off to look at carpet for the basement. I did stop in a store yesterday to get an idea what is out there and the price range of what it will cost. Unfortunately I did not find anything that would work.

My Corelle dishes outlasted my first marriage... They were the first set I bought after we married, and one of the few things I packed in my car when I left him 27 years later. Still have some of the original "Melody" pattern, but more of the plain white plates now that I bought after Corey and I married, as there were more of us, with the two kids. I've never liked stoneware dishes, and not fond of glass anything, so Corelle it is.
The habit tracking continues, and the weight's back to tracking downward at .2 pounds per day, which is the long-term goal, so pretty happy about that. Don't know how long my peripatetic mind can deal with it, but it's working fine now.
Love y'all,

Hello ladies! Just jumping in after a long time MIA. We left Arizona the last few days of May after meeting my husband's new grandson in San Diego. When we arrived up in Minnesota we went to my husband's brothers farm to visit his Mom. He helped farm for two weeks. They were extremely behind because of the snowfall this year. This also sent us on a new path. My husband is going to give up his "lunch lady" position he was doing to keep himself busy in Arizona, and help his brother Farm during the spring and fall each year. That will put us in Arizona for 6 1/2 months and Minnesota 5 1/2 months. We then bounced around the idea of selling our house and cabin or renting. If you remember we rented last year just the main level of our house. The renters that we had left early. That's why we were thinking of selling. We decided to hire a close friend as our rental agent. He successfully got both places rented for the beginning of July. We also found a very nice resort on leech lake where we placed a second RV that has a bunk house for the kids and grandkids when they come to visit. It actually sleeps 11.
Katla glad to hear about your RV! I think you will really enjoy it with your husband. We love the new lifestyle we are living. We will be keeping an RV in Arizona and one here in Minnesota. That way we will only need to drive our truck cross country. Rita if you ever get to Arizona let me know we can maybe get together for a visit!
Corell dishes we just bought our first set for our new RV. Mainly because they are light and they do not break easily. They are also dishwasher and microwave safe.
Time to go for now! I will probably be MIA until the middle of July. We put The remaining furniture that we have in a consignment auction and they will be picking that up today and Monday. I will be painting the inside of the house and cabin through next week. In between a visit from my daughter and son-in-law that are coming up for a Country music concert. I hope everyone is doing well! I have been skimming the posts but way too busy to comment. I still swing the kettle bell every day! I am just about ready to transition to the 45 pound kettle bell.
Have a fantastic day everyone!

When we moved from NB to Alberta in 1997 my husband came in September and the girls and I left NB Christmas night. The girls and I moved in with my parents to help with money, it caused a huge battle as his parents were upset I wouldn't stay with them. So to try to please everyone we stayed at my parents during the week due to school and at his parents on the weekends. It was the longest and hardest thing I've ever done. My grandfather passed in October as well. I would not ever want to do it again.
As a Mother we've had our daughter, her husband and baby move in with us after they were flooded out of their rental. It lasted from July to November. That was about 3 months too long for me.
Corelle dishes - I have had those all my married life until about 3 years ago, I saw a pretty set of stoneware I really liked. I got rid of all of my Corelle, but I was telling my daughter the other day I want my Corelle back. Maybe that will be my Christmas list this year.
Ok off to try to sell some business, have a great day everyone.

Good morning friends. It has gone from hotter than hell to needing an ark around here! We got 3" just yesterday on top of the two days before where it was torrential, but I didn't have my rain gauge out. That's how you know it's College World Series season around here! The weather is always bad!
Saw my psychiatric nurse practitioner today. She is having me take melatonin for a week then adding Wellbutrin for some OCD that tends to paralyze me into doing nothing. I'm willing to give it a try, but you know my goal in life is to be the only old lady in the nursing home on no meds! Well, I'll take fiber supplements because God knows they don't realize fiber comes from food!
I'm meeting a friend around 2 for a snack, late lunch, what ever. She's a friend from s-anon so it will be nice to chat outside of a meeting.
I'm enjoying all the wonderful pictures you all are posting!
Need to run some errands now. I'll try not to drown! Take care, Meg from soggy Omaha6 -
I have my mom’s corelle plates, basic white plus some I’ve picked up over the years.unfortunately none of the tea/coffee cups from her corelle set made it:( the 70’s ones were so cute).
Also have 4 of my mother’s cornflower blue Corning Ware baking dishes, and a bunch of amber colored 80’s pots and pans Corningware ( the good Stuff without the non stick bottoms) fromJohn’s Mother. I often pick up vintage pieces of the Corning bake ware or pots and pans at used places when I see some me. The best things in my kitchen, imo.

Janet: Thanks for the tip on RV Parky. DH is using it right this minute on his ipad and says it is a good app, and is raving about how much he likes it. I have added it to my phone as well. :flowerforyou:
Allie: I am thrilled to see your happy posts. Your life seems to be on a very good path.
Margaret: I am so pleased that you are able to order things in restaurants that fit your diet. Since DH has been on his new FODMAP diet, we've only found two restaurants we trust where he can order. One is a Chinese place that offers just what he needs & the other is Subway. We prefer to have lunch out as an occasional treat rather than dinner out. There is just too much food on the dinner menu most places. We love to go out for breakfast, but haven't done it since his doctor put him on the FODmap diet. There is no reason why we can't. DH can have eggs, bacon & hashed brown potatoes, but not toast. That shouldn't be a deal breaker. :noway:
Pip: I hope you find goal setting here productive. It has certainly done wonders for me.
Meg: I can vouch for Wellbutrin. I've been taking the generic version for a long time and have found it very helpful.
Time to get on with the day. It is cool enough that we might be able to get some things done that were unpleasant in yesterday's heat.

I love my Corning Ware baking dishes. So easy to clean and microwave proof. I have never had any Corelle dishes. Gave a bunch of my Corning Ware to DnL and I think they use it for dog dishes. I also gave them an electric pressure cooker similar to the Instant Pot and I do not think they ever use it.

Hi, I am tying to get back on track. I was doing great in January, then lost my MoJo. Back to my starting weight. I am looking for motivational support. I live in Indiana and work as a Parapro for Special Ed. I am off for the summer, so I am not getting my steps or stairs that I get on a normal day. I struggle with motivation to workout. I have a YMCA membership which is just not getting used. I own a treadmil, mini trampoline, hand weights and kettlebells. I just need a push to use them.2
-
Mary Hi! Glad you are happy & busy. All I can say to that 45lb kettlebell is OMG. You are swinging more than a third of your body weight...
Barbie That is so interesting. I do pretty well interacting with small groups and actually prefer one-to-one conversations, but I clutch in front of a larger group. I wasn't this way in high school. I enjoyed being in plays and musical performances where there were large audiences. But now the thought of it makes my palms clammy, LOL!
I've been gardening an hour every morning before it gets too hot. It was satisfying to see the area I weeded this morning looking so much better. I will finish weeding that bed tomorrow & spread some Preen. After I weeded I showered & then got the house picked up so our cleaner can come. I was taking some kitchen scraps to the compost pile when my wrist bobbled a little, sending coffee grounds flying across the family room floor.
I am off work today & tomorrow, but not feeling very inspired to accomplish much of anything. I need to light a fire under myself.
Love you all.

Rita: I am curious about the reservation system that you are using. Is there a book that we should be buying so that we have a current list of RV campgrounds?
Barbie: I am delighted to hear that Jake walked a trail in the Olympic National Park with you. It is wonderful that his health is improving after the struggles and surgeries in the past. Congratulations to you both.
This has been a good day, starting with a yoga class led by one of my favorite instructors, then making good progress toward getting the RV ready to go, and a pleasant evening at home now. Color me happy.
Katla in beautiful NW Oregon
Katla we try to stay at State parks so go to their websites to make reservations. I also use reserveamerica.com online. I have their app on my phone, GoodSams app, RvParky, and I have a book with all the state parks in the US. If you prefer books, Good Sam’s has a book with all their parks, and others listed. You can get the books from Amazon. I also have an map-book that I use sometimes to plan our next route and some campgrounds are listed in there along the route. But my favorite is Reserve America.
Thanks for all the comments on the bird rescue. I feel good about trying even though the bird didn’t make it.

So did a new maneuver for my vertigo I had not tried before, last night. What a terrible, nauseating experience, but doctor said that that is sadly encouraging. Shows that movement is going on. Today did my 1 of 3 times doing this maneuver, and it wasn't as bad.
Using my inhaler and the added breathing thingy, is helping! I think my vertigo is what has made me feel so achy this past month. I had tried many other maneuvers and this one has helped the most. Fingers crossed!
Hugs Lisa! Your past comments rang true with me about new places! I have yet to venture out of my bubble. Mostly health related, but realizing it takes awhile for a house to become a home. Just moving stuff in, doesn't cut it. Its practically going thru a mourning time with the old place, the comfortable secure feeling, to the new, the unfamiliar. I am giving myself time.

Hi all (most likely again) as I've been here- and all WW online places- many times. I am currently thinking of tracking here again for the extra information instead of my itrackbites app, which is simple. Apparently for me it's more than calories in calories out now. I am also retiring next year Wendy- the end of next school year Kind of happy about it, but also worried I won't like it.1

Hugs back, my dear, I can deal with never-ending pain SO much better than dizziness or vertigo. Not sure I remember what I said about new places, but glad it was helpful. As a military wife, you know that we, well really, all of us on this site to be honest, are "home makers" in the very deepest sense of that word. I'm pretty sure my husband could live in a cardboard box fairly happily as long as there was a TV in there and a bathroom available.
I, on the other hand have a few things that, until I do them, it's not home to me. All my place magnets have to go up on the fridge (there are a LOT of them, but because they're all flat, they pack in a very small box). The sign that says, "With you, I'm home," has to go somewhere I can see it. The rest varies from place to place, house to house, state to state, country to country.
So, when you feel up to it, whatever those are for you, do those things... and you'll finally be home. You need that--it's possible we all do, even if that home's on wheels.
Love,
Lisa in AR

You are so welcome, I'm glad yo husband is liking it. Our next door neighbor turned us on to it and they travel several months each year. It's so complete and very user friendly. When you click on a RV Park to check it out, a little phone icon is there with the information, all you have to do is click on that icon and it dials that RV Park, of course you have to be on your cell phone, not ipad or tablet.

Cool magnets! Take a pic of it on your frig. We have the exact same things on our nightstands, our dresser, our computer desk. I mean exactly! That gives me comfort, knowing where stuff is. There are more drawers here, and we will not use them all! We have our Oriental picture writing, for us and our eldest, so its nice seeing that by the front door.
