Rori- ummmm...am I missing something? You stated that your DH's girlfriend's condo was in danger of burning? Your DH has a girlfriend? I must have missed something!
Pat OH- I take a "horsepill"of tumuric each day. I started taking it earlier this year, (January, maybe). I began taking it in powder form and making a "tea" of sorts with a pinch of black pepper. It tasted like peppered dirt and I was worried it would turn my teeth yellow, so I switched to the pill form. The swelling has gone down in my ankles and knees, though I am not sure if I can attribute it to the turmeric or not, as I am not sure why my knees and ankles were swollen. Could have been from injury or overuse.

Rye- YOU LOOK FANTASTIC! (Yes, that needed to be shouted!)
Allie- The balloons are wonderful! Have you ever gone up in one? I would love to do that. I would also love to see a balloon festival like the one you went to! Such fun!0 -

Machka: Happy anniversary to you and DH. Wonderful news that you were both able to ride outside again.
Janet: "Chisling" meme is heading to my printer and then probably a spot in my zen den. Love it!!!
Katla: Have fun with the Fam.
Kim: (((hugs)))
Pip: Please send me your donation link. I'm hugely proud of you and Kirby, and you deserve that shirt
link coming your way !!! thanks!!! :0)0 -
Rye ... you have done an amazing job "chiseling away" to get the real you!
Emergency Rooms ... In addition to those who don't have health insurance and so resort to the ER, there are folks like my son and I (who are blessed with excellent insurance) who are sent to the ER because it's the only way to see a doctor when there's an unusual situation. The first time my son had off labs for his kidneys, his primary doctor called every nephrologist in town and even tried to call in favors and no one would see my son because their schedules were too full. They all told him (and us) to go to the ER ... that way he had to be seen. There's something wrong with that ..9 -
Greetings Ladies - Visiting with our friends was great. I'm starving, I had some turkey at lunch, it was a VERY limited menu. I'm getting ready to go fix my dinner.
I'm the oddball again, I can't do the tumeric capsules. I have tried twice and both times my finger joints get so sore it hurts to bend my fingers. It could be coincidental, but since it happened twice several months apart, I'm done with them.
Happy Saturday evening!

Beth, that's great news about your son's wound starting to heal. I am thinking of you at this challenging time.
Lisa, glad to hear you are home safely with your beloved family.
I did some reading about side effects of the drug I'm taking and nausea and no appetite are among them. The icky taste in my mouth is probably a contributor to both of them.
I'm not too worried about whether I sleep at night because with all my lying down I'm sleeping a lot during the daytime. If I'm not asleep, I'm reading. Jake sleeps in another room so I don't disturb him.

Michelle - Ft. Walton Beach, FL and then to Louisiana to visit with Will, Tami, and Mallory.
Rye - WOW! Big difference. I know you are proud of your accomplishments.
Rori - I feel your pain re: COBRA insurance, I pay up the whazoo for insurance for me and Louis; all our MDs take Medicare - but; I am also 'grandfathered' in and that is good. You are right, so many MDs don't take Medicare because it pays so little. But, I did changed my insurance from 'family' to "Me plus One" and that saved me about $50 a month. I wish I had known this 15 years ago, when I no longer had children that needed to be covered.
We pay up the whazoo for 'life insurance'; but, have little choice because of having a mortage. I pay all the insurances and it pretty much wipes out my SSI check.
Having a great time and the weather has been gorgeous!

Hi all I have been having all kinds of problems with this site. I still cannot get onto my home page "news feed" despite several emails from support. It's not my computer because the same thing happens on every computer I try it on. harrumph. So I am still here!

Lol I wondered about that, then thought “to each their own”3 -
Me too Rori. I was thinking you were very friendly with your DH’s girlfriend. But I didn’t say anything. Glad you sold your condo in Hawaii.
Allie- the balloons were beautiful and well worth the early wake up. Glad you got to go ant enjoy them. Do you have any hobbies like knitting, puzzles, bridge or reading books? When you are doing crafts it is hard to be eating.
Lisa- glad you are home safe and sound. That was quite a trip.
Feel some better today but skipped golf yesterday to stay out of the heat. Over 100 again today and I am so ready for some cooler weather.

Dinner after and what I laid out at 4 pm! Now I'm waiting patiently for when I can have my cookie and coffee! Husband and son just went to McDonald's *sigh*. I sometimes feel like a frillin alien! Not eating what the world eats but things I like.

I've been on them for a couple weeks now, but the jury is still out. They were supposed to go a long way to get rid of the joint pain in my feet ... but if anything that's worse. Plus my hips have been really acting up in the last few days.
They may not be causing the pain, but they don't seem to be helping.

M – I don’t log my exercise calories for that exact reason, if I go over I’m covered.
Beth – glad to hear the surgery is a “go”
Rye – you’re looking fantastic!
Rori – thanks for passing on Meg’s message
Evie – yes, we put Spectracide in the stump. The label says it will start to work in 6-8 weeks, wonder how long it takes for the stump to completely decompose. 3-4 years?????
Went in the pool, took a shower, I’ll get dinner ready then if I have time before church I may start to string the popcorn. I popped it earlier today.
More on the website saga: The new webmaster is setting up a database after which people will be able to sort and search. He’s asked everyone to have an individual email. He kept telling me over and over how everyone needs a unique email which is when I suggested he create a “bogus” email. He decided to ask everyone to get an address. Some people don’t want one. That’s Newcomers. Well, he just got a reply from this lady who told him to use her email for her husband. Greg (new webmaster) – welcome to Newcomers. It would have been easier and more efficient if he had just taken it on himself and created a bogus email. Now he’s going to have members who don’t get one, and then what’s he going to do? I just smile. If he were to give me addresses to put on the Newcomer mail list, before I would do so I would contact the person and get confirmation that this is what they’d like me to do. I don’t like giving my address to one person and then getting all this email that I don’t want and don’t care about. And I wouldn’t do something like that to someone else. Even if the president tells me to do it, I still want confirmation. It’s not like she’s a boss and is signing a paycheck. In that case, even if I didn’t agree with something, I’d do what the boss told me to do.
KJ – I’m glad I’m not the only one who caught Rori’s dh’s “girlfriend”.
SuebDew – I agree, doing crafts keeps your hands busy so you can’t eat. Good idea staying out of the heat
Rebecca – I hear ya about eating what you like. Vince and Jess have gotten on my case about not eating “like you used to”. I got so mad one time that I finally yelled “why can’t I eat what I want? You do”

I went to my second bypass support group meeting today. I'm still so thrilled to have lost 13# beforehand. I will see the dietician Monday for the second time to get more feedback on what I'm doing to get ready. I live the premier protein drinks and have found them on Costco. They have way more flavors available than I found at the supermarket and in 18-packs. They're much cheaper. In fact they're almost a $1 cheaper that way.
Now I need to concentrate on high protein snacks that will keep in a purse or lunchbox.7 -

Hi Gals,
Thinking of all!
So a bit of a story – I’ve been here for a good long while – I joined 2-14-14 and when I started I counted everything as best I could and lost, 30 lbs ! I was so happy and proud; I hit a plateau and decided to take a week or so break. Well, the break has lasted for over a year now – but I have stayed within 5 lbs of my 30 lbs off. But there has always been an additional 20lbs that need to come off – and maybe more; but the total of 50 has been the long-term goal.
I have a gal friend who is getting married – She’s about 55, it’s a second marriage for her and a 3rd for her guy. The wedding is in May 2019. They are big lovers of “dress up/pretend” – I’m not sure how else to explain it – She loves Renaissance fairs, costumes, they both ride motorcycles and have all the biker gear – and for the wedding which will be in a park overlooking the ocean – you are supposed to come in costume, as who you’ve dreamed of being - I am not big into fantasy, comics, super heros, wishing to be “someone else”. So I have been at a loss of what I would wear to this costume party wedding. The only thing I really want is that next 20lbs off – so that’s the plan! I am starting tomorrow (as it is the end of the day here) back to full fledged working of MFP – and saving to buy a brand new outfit for the wedding. It is going to be in a pretty but secluded area of the California Coast and in looking at places to stay, they have 3 day minimums and $170-$300 per night…This will be an expensive wedding to attend. But if I’m going I am going 20 lbs lighter! I will also be investigating camping options.
Smiles
Kim from N. California

Hello all: Have been on vacation and have read but not posted . Home now and 5# heavier than when I left although some of that is water weight. Riding in a car all day and the next day spent on planes and in airports to get home. Little exercise and the wrong kind of food. But the reunion was a lot of fun. We saw lots of relatives and my DGD has decided that she is related to 1/2 of the people in Iowa. Also connected with some cousins that we have not seen in many, many years.
spent this afternoon with DH in the emergency room only to have them say they had no idea why his labs were so far off but they were going to discharge him and let his family doctor take care of it. Yuck! Liver enzymes were extremely high and kidney function was low. he also had blood in the urine. Who knows, maybe the result of travel.
All the fur children were happy to see us.
My DD's boss wanted her to bring the goats to work so this is a picture of Wilbur and Orville at Archie McPhee.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Progesterone stimulates osteoblasts and prevents bone loss in pre- and possibly perimenopausal women. Studies indicate that progesterone – likely working through bone formation pathways -plays an active role in maintaining women’s bone and in osteoporosis prevention.(11) Research shows that transdermal progesterone had bone-sparing effects.(12)

It is very worth reading IMO, love ya'all, Happy Anniversary Machka, Wendy
Very interesting, but finding avDr who has this info would be a long search . Pat in Oh
Pat, there is no need to look for a doctor as you don't need a prescription to buy natural progesterone. It is available over the counter, or you can order it delivered to your door. Just make sure it is the real stuff and not the fake stuff that drug companies make called confusingly Progestins. Your body can't metabolise the fake stuff properly. If you research progesterone you will be amazed at all the benefits of using it. Try borrowing from your library either one of Dr. John Lee's books "What your Doctor may not tell you about Menopause" or "What your Doctor May Not Tell You about Breast Cancer." In a nutshell, if you don't want to get osteo, or other age-related breakdowns and you don't want to get cancer, use progesterone. Wendy1 -
Great Kim! It's good to have a time goal to focus your efforts. I think over here that kind of biker/dresser-upper is called "steam punk" , but that may not be accurate. The British love a costume! Not so much me.
My son loves it - he was into mediaeval sword fighting, but now he's into Airsoft, which involves dressing up in combat gear and running round shooting toy guns. As I brought him up a pacifist, it's a bit weird, but he assures me no one gets hurt and it is "just a game". The costumes seem to be the main attraction.
Losing 30 lbs is a great accomplishment. I started MFP six years ago and I'm still counting every calorie! With my love of food and drink I know it would be a disaster if I didn't. The only thing I don't count is my afternoon bonus calories. I eat delicious, healthy food, but I know I would sneak extras in if I couldn't see the figures in black and white. However, I use "Quick Add" a lot as I don't bother with macros. I just tot up the calories in my head and put the number down, sometimes combining meals, like lunch and afternoon snack. It makes it all doable and my diet is so good anyway and I have no blood sugar etc problems. I am only interested in CICO.
Of course, I am eating nearly 1800 calories a day, so I have quite a few to play with!
Good luck on your renewed commitment.
It's "defrost the enormous freezer" day today. DH and I are doing it together this afternoon. It needs doing even if we don't move. If we do, then it needs defrosting as the buyer's are taking it over. Must also clean its twin, the fridge. I think it's a day for frozen chilli. Plus sweet potato for DH and roasted cauliflower for both of us.
Bank Holiday weekend here. Monday is a holiday for banks, family doctors, and offices, but services keep going and some shops. My solicitor is taking Friday to Monday off. Trains are always in a mess. I try never to go anywhere.

Nice!
Regarding Stats ...
Tasmania gets 12 per year, but they bunch them all up in the summer/autumn for the most part, and we have a long gap between mid-June and the end of October with nothing.
So I'm taking a day off in early September, during my Spring Break week, just to have a long weekend.

Kim, I think over on this side of the pond, they call it "cosplay," but I don't know how to pronounce it. It covers a lot of "costume play" on the part of adults. Good on you for a time-delimited goal. It's always helpful for me, too.
Machka - so pleased that your husband is out cycling with you again. It is such a part of your identities, both separately and apart. Such a joyful thing, and on your anniversary as well. So happy for both of you.
On the subject of turmeric, I've found that a number of substances that others swear by do nothing for me. Glucosamine chondroitin actually hurt me, made me feel as if there were rough sandpaper in every joint. The CBD oils had zero impact. Whatever you try along these lines, simply try one thing at a time, and don't change anything else, and you'll have a better idea of what works.
The athletic flex tape has been the only thing that's kept me moving - and it was apparent why when they showed me the X-rays. Not looking forward to December surgery.
After my two-week marathon trip, I ended up about a half-pound lighter. Would have probably been more, but the last day before coming home was sugared up. Ah well. Lighter is lighter.
More on the trip over on my personal blog, coffeeandegg dot wordpress dot com. Want to put all the bits in one place, so my friends, both MFP and otherwise, can see too, including pics. Don't know how many turned out, but I'll put them up there.
Love y'all,

Good morning ladies! It is a humid and foggy morning here in West Michigan! Trentin arrived a little on the sleepy/grumpy side, so he is vegging out on the couch with a movie. I am going to TRY to convince him to go on the hike, but we may end up just hanging out and playing board/card games, today.
Rori- So glad it was a typo! Although open marriage would give us more to read and talk about!
Machka- I am so happy you and your DH were able to get out and do some biking on the roads! Very smart of you to find a low traffic area to start!
Kim- Congrats on your 30 lbs lost and "you can do it" for your last 20 lbs! Perhaps you could dress as a "Warrior woman"?! I participate in "dress up" through our local museum as a docent. I get to dress up once in a while and portray different historical "local characters". They provide the costumes; but I do have a skirt, camisole, vest and lovely, lovely hat of my own. IF, I am ever asked to dress up as who I want to be, it would be a toss up between Maleficent, Catwoman, and Lisbeth Salander. I guess I have a dark side. The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has always been some one I wanted to dress up as for Halloween; but don't want to freak my kiddies out, so it's a no-go.
Lisa-Not gaining weight, not to mention actually losing weight, while you travel is AMAZING!
Sharon (Trucker)- If you like them, both, cottage cheese and greek yogurt are great sources of protein and filling snacks! Nuts are also a good source of protein, but also high in fat. I know it is good fat, but when you are trying to lose weight you can't go crazy on the good fats. I think one ounce of raw almonds is about seven almonds. Good luck! We are here for you!
Well, it looks like I will have next weekend off, plus Monday as that is Labor Day holiday! Three days off after 12 days on! I will take it! I have all of my bags prepped (I organize each day's craft/activity/theme into bags during these "theme-a-day" weeks) for the week. This week promises to be busy but fun. Holiday Adventure week. Monday is Valentines Day, Tuesday is Mardi Gras, Wednesday is Halloween, Thursday is Thanksgiving, Friday is Christmas! lol Friday is Christmas because THEN I can keep those decorations up for the ENTIRE long weekend! Whoot!
That's all I've got! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (kelly)
