Another nice, dry, warm evening run. It wasn’t quite as late as last night, so I had a bit more pep.
@Avidkeo That sounds like an exciting move.. I think I’m finally at a place where I appreciate being in a city (which is handy because that’s where my job is). In the past 10 years we lived in 1 biggish city (this one), 1 smaller city, 1 college town, and 1 rural place. This city (Seattle) and the rural place (upstate New York) were my favorites because they’re gorgeous, but it was also great to move here with kids and have so many things to do. I hope your house sells quickly!
March goal: 60 miles
3/2 6 mi
3/3 cross (easy bike ~10 mi)
3/5 4 mi
3/7 4 mi TM
3/9 6 mi
3/10 cross (bike 25 mi w/kids)

3/14 4 mi
3/16 3.1 mi (5K PR!)
3/17 3 mi + cross (snowboarding)
3/19 4.5 mi
3/20 3.1 mi
March total: 41.7 mi

Still no running for me this week. In the morning I have decent energy in spite of congestion and runny nose and I think I might be able to run in the evening but by the time I'm done with work I'm fatigued and I know a run isn't happening.
I may take Kody for a walk tonight. I need to do something in this nice weather we're having...enough with laying on the couch.

got a run in 5.45mi. i have to admit, i was a little nervous after such a horrible run on sunday. i wanted to push the pace a bit since it was going to be a shorter run. my lungs felt a bit tight. so hmm but overall it was a good, tough run to push sunday's bad run out of the way
found some spring showers along the way. i'm glad i brought a change of clothes as i had an aerial yoga class to teach after
i ran pretty barebones. i ran in capris and a long sleeved with a buff. i relished in the rain. i ran past another lady and i had to laugh. she looked pissed at the rain. and she had a rain jacket, and two other top layers, hat, beats headphones, long pants, compression socks, and headlamp(on and it wasn't even after sunset). maybe she was having a bad run, but i was feeling thankful i could enjoy the run and not curse the rain10 -

That looks like space food.
ETA Cutes! @mbaker566 ! Beautiful scenery! Maybe her play list sucked... or she was running off a bad day. Hope it ended well for her.1 -

Might be able to get some more miles in next week before the end of the month, but my nephew should make an appearance any day now (currently a week overdue) so it will entirely depend on when he arrives!5 -

Biked today with my kid (to the mall, for McNuggets, which strangely aren't as gross to me in Europe), then took a break for lunch, ran with him to school and kept going for 15 km. It was hard at the beginning but got nicer as I kept going. Now to get some work done before an evening work meeting that I've been dreading, but hopefully will resolve some things.
Spoiler: view from the bike trail, and cheese. Mmmmm...8 -

Hah, my first thought was “maybe the cleaning pod shouldn’t look so similar to the ice cream pods?” But I’m one of those “let’s all eat more gunk!” people, so the concept doesn’t strike me as gross. Not worth the counter space, personally, but then I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. On the other hand, that cheese looks fabulous. I have two shelves in my refrigerator almost entirely devoted to cheese.0 -

Me too! Oh it would be too dangerous for me. Ice cream is probably my favorite dessert! I eat those enlightened bars pretty much every night, but I can fit that in pretty easily. Not sure about a bowl of ice cream a day. So tempting!!0 -

but i am from wisconsin, america's dairyland3 -
We're not big ice cream eaters here, thankfully, but I have all of my teenage son's friends here constantly and this machine would totally add to the mess and chaos. No thank you! It's already bad enough with drinks and pizza boxes and snack wrappers. I guess if it was your personal machine and you know it was cleaned well, it could be fun.1

66.24/80 miles completed
Today I ran 3.27 miles at lunch. I decided not to get up early since it was supposed to be 42F feels like 38F. The last couple of days has been a feel like of around 48F which is ok for me, but much colder than that I don't really like. Plus my jacket has a broken zipper, and I felt like sleeves alone would not be enough. So I waited until lunch. By then it was 66F and almost too warm. My weather app said it was 66F when I started, but garmin shows my run was 70F. But I really preferred the 3 miles at almost 70F to the 5 miles at feels like 38F and I am pretty close to my goal and should reach it with no problem. It was nice to run in shorts and a tank top. I really love it when I don't have to think about what I am going to wear. Low 40's is easier for me when the sun is shining, but cold and dark are not a good combo for me. Plus switching my run to lunch gave me a little more time for yoga this morning and I was able to get into a couple of binds that I usually can't do so I felt like I made the right choice.

Yea, real ice cream is not bad in calories (and pretty healthy actually), but I highly doubt this will be all that real. It probably be about the same as any generic soft serve which is more like 200-250 per serving. All just a guess till it comes out for real though.0 -

The Keurig ice cream thing sets off my skeeve factor. Can you say salmonella? I knew you could...("Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" reference for those non-USAers....). But it does remind me that I mixed up a batch of strawberry ice cream last night and need to put it in the churn later today....

Nice weather was really short-lived. I ran outside again but it was 45 degrees and rainy. I would have bailed in favor of a rest day if I wasn't meeting my friend but I'm glad I did it.
The rain is turning into snow for tomorrow and we are supposed to get 5-10 inches. Grrrr.
I'm not sure about that Keurig looking ice cream machine either but in theory I would love to have my own soft-serve machine. I have joked about setting up some kind of ice cream van/stand after long runs on Saturdays in the summer - I think one could make a killing off the runners and bikers in the park.5 -
I've been terribly busy the last couple of days, so am way behind on the posts. I'll try to catch up later...at least skim through them. I'll apologize in advance for this long post.
I wanted to let you all in on a secret. I have literally been scared of running since a doctor's visit I had in January. Last year, after I had an echo-cardiogram to see how my bicuspid valve/heart murmur were doing, I was told my aorta was slightly dilated and I would need to repeat the echo in a year. Okay. No big deal. Right? Well, when I went back in January and we were discussing having the echo repeated, the word aneurysm was used. What? Aren't those usually fatal?! I remained calm and pretended that I had known all along that a dilated aorta was an aneurysm. Fast forward a few weeks. I had the repeat echo which showed that the aneurysm had grown 3 cm, so I was referred to a heart specialist. At that point I asked about exercising and was told that running was fine with no activity restrictions.
But, I broke the cardinal rule of health problems and googled it. Everything I saw said that if they grow 3 cm in a year, it has a chance of bursting or leaking and is a candidate to be fixed...open heart surgery. I did go ahead and run, but every little pain in my back or chest or jaw or anywhere was a matter of concern. I was thinking the worst.
I saw the specialist about a month ago. He told me that the echo was not the best test to determine the size or growth rate of an aneurysm. A CT Scan is more definitive. He again assured me that since I wasn't presenting any symptoms, like shortness of breath or being really tired, that I was okay to exercise, just no heavy lifting....such as "trying to bench press a car." I did feel better that we didn't know the true size of it to begin with, but, upon reflection, it was also a bad thing. What if it was bigger? We didn't know for sure. (I have to say that I am NOT normally someone who thinks the worst of a situation. This was new territory for me.)
I forced myself to carry on, but did a lot more walking than I did running and when I did run, I tried to make sure I didn't get my heart rate up really high, just in case. I did manage to run/walk 3.5 miles last Saturday, but I was slower than that slow thing going slowly I've heard about.
Fast forward again to yesterday. I had the CT scan, which was an experience itself. I saw the specialist this morning for the results. It was a great report. The aorta is 4.6 cm...I think normal is something like 3.5. However, he said they don't consider it to be a candidate for surgery until it reaches about 5.5 cm. The plan going forward is to have another CT scan in 6 months to see if there is any growth. If none he will check again every year. I guess if there is growth, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I did ask AGAIN about running. He said running would be great as controlling my blood pressure is the best thing I can do for it. So, here's to at least 6 months of fear free running! It also gives me extra motivation to keep it up and to lose a little weight. All support is greatly appreciated!22 -

No idea if this will help. I'm a radiographer and we see dilated aorta's ALL THE TIME. Many many people are running around (pun intended) and dont even know they have them. They are mostly shown as an incidental finding on images. so totally not something to worry about.
Biggest and best advice I give to ANYONE is NEVER EVER GOOGLE (definitly a do as I say, not as I do situation, i'm the worst googler) because you only see worst case scenarios. People dont talk about normal, because, well they are normal. nothing exciting in the normal. Anythign unusual though, that gets a lot of screen time.
Keep running, its good for you in sooo many ways. and please ignore google. its awful.8 -
Guys I ran 10k this morning! felt soooo good to get that kinda distance in again. and no pains or anything. I used my hydration pack, and it really helped.
the last couple of weeks have been fantastic in building my base up. I'm unofficially starting my HM training plan now, slowly building up over the next couple of weeks, and will kick into the proper plan at the end of April - HM last weekend of June.12 -
Ok... It is 1.49am, I'm meant to get up and run in 4 hours... But I'm sat here hacking up my lungs! Coming up on 2 weeks of this bloody cold that my kids so kindly shared with me! Anyone got any tried and tested cure for annoying tickly coughs?!8
-
@quilteryoyo oh goodness, I would have been a nervous wreck. I’m glad your latest tests are more positive. One good thing to bear in mind is that at least you are aware there’s an issue and can keep an eye on it.0
