Bunnyhop 5k this morning. The rain held off and it was an easy race. My fastest 5k yet chip time 27:03. Placed 4 in age group. The medals were divided only by age group not male/female so 3 female in age group. Daughter finished 2 in age group/ 1 female. Really good small race and the shirts were purple so a definite win.13

The teacher strike is still on which complicates things, but my housemate sat down with me and we compared schedules so I could have time to run this coming week. It's a very important one for my marathon training. I was so happy today that I got to run
Upcoming races:
April 27 - Botanical 5k
May 12- Lublin Marathon5 -
Congrats @Butterchop and @Tramboman on your races.
@garygse that's awesome you went ahead and ran your HM. Who needs bling anyway We just got a barrage of hail here too. Heavy rain expected all day. So guess the run this weekend will get pushed to Sunday again.

Because the race got called off, I decided on a HM LT run a little after midnight before the storms hit. Running north or east was arduous due to the increasing wind speed, but overall I hit an average pace of 7:24.
Calling off the race was a wise move...we just had a barrage of quarter-sized hail, and that would've hurt. A lot. And seeing as we're completely surrounded by storms, more is to come. That big sucker on the left? Yeah, that actually runs pretty much the length of Texas and deep into Oklahoma, and it's making its way in our direction.
02 - 14.22
03 - 14.14
04 - 11.40
05 - 10.10
08 - 9.11
09 - 7.30
10 - 7.54
11 - 6.13
13 - 13.11
Total: 93.05 / 220 miles
Nap weather!!! The storms hit in my corner of Texas this morning and it’s still pouring. It’s a rest day for me with no work. I am still in bed in my pajamas at noon. I plan on doing nothing the rest of the day and it will be amazing. Can you tell I am burnt-out? 😂7 -
Congrats on your races @Tramboman and @Butterchop!
Impressive getting in your HM before the storms @garygse. Definitely looks like a day to stay inside.
I hear you @amymoreorless - enjoy your day of doing nothing. That sounds fantastic and much needed.

I got one last run in this morning in San Diego. It was a gorgeous morning - as my Lyft driver said, every day is beautiful in San Diego. I looped around a little park with a fitness trail and did some of the stations for the pushups, pull-ups, rings, etc. A little bonus Spartan race training! They were setting up the finish area for the SoCal Ragnar race which ends later today and I suddenly felt a little left out of all the excitement.
Heading out on my flight in a little while so I've got a long day of sitting around ahead of me. I'm just excited that unlike on the way here I am NOT going to do any work. Maybe I'll even catch a little nap.
Good luck to any other racers this weekend! Stay safe from all the storms those of you in the paths.

We are always in this pocket. We didn’t get anything but drizzle and some wind.

Yay! Well done!0 -
Was planning an easy run today, but ugh. Not feeling up to it. Think might have gotten bad food at the rest stop on the turnpike. Shocking I know. Ugh.3

We have one with the intellect of a rubber bouncy ball! We just put him on med, depo provera shot. It’s helped. The crazy monster cat is a week short of 4 months. So he gets a pass for being a monster kitten. He also has a great personality and looks like a slinky little grey bat.
Our vet recommended calming snacks for the dum dum bouncy ADD cat. So far he won’t eat them. Might put something like that out for your wee hour howler (we also have wall plug in pheromones). Mine wanna hunt about 4am and occasionally bring a toy in with that “I got something for you” yowl.
Way too much cat info there... hehe. 🙀3 -
15km struggle. Out with 3 others and they were doing a 2km run/100m walk which really helped me today.
Just one of those days where my body wasn't happy from the first step. Discomfort at top of left foot/bottom of shin above the laces, which took 3 km to loosen up and disappear. Legs still felt heavy after tuesday's Trail Explorer. Looking back 5 months I can really see that I just haven't been putting in the time/distance I need. Last year I had more 5/10km shorty runs in the mix. Will have to get back on the bus with a more scheduled program.

Still not running, but today I managed to find Meb and thank him for pacing at the Shamrock Half 4 weeks ago. This time, my sister was along to take a picture.
Wearing an air cast and an old Boston Celebration jacket gets a lot of sympathy in Boston this weekend.

Eh no need to worry about me. I got a cool rod in my leg. I must be the company of like 0.02% of the population. I’m sure it even has its own unique serial number for easy identification, (ooo mental note- ask doc for it!) -if they find me in the woods or at the bottom of a lake. Great CSI twist. And if/when I get cremated, someone’s gonna have to retrieve that. Surely that’ll be coolness in someone’s day.
That means you now have a Serial Number, not just a Social Security/Tax Number.
You should see if you can get a small copy of your x-ray/cat scan that way when you go through airport security and all the alarms go off you can show them why.
@Avidkeo Like your comment about running life bleeding into work around shoe choices.
@girlinahat Great looking Trails
@garygse From the Radar images - That's a beast of a storm
@polskagirl01 Sorry that the Teachers labour dispute is affecting life and running - especially since you are in a training cycle.4 -

The one semi-local group that I am involved with made the Canadian Trail Running list
Triple Terrain Trail Trekkers Group from Grande Prairie. Half of them are in Jasper this weekend for the Jasper HM.
I believe @JessicaMcB might know the Edson and Hinton groups.
Ironically the lead picture for the Lethbridge Trail Runners reminded me of a local area along the Smoky and Watino River junction. I have also joined up with the Edmonton Group on occasion when I am down for work/vacation.0 -
Shoes arrived today! Probably won't take them out for a spin until Tuesday since today is a bust, and don't want to go on a long run tomorrow in new shoes.7

Thanks @girlinahat! It's always nice to hear from someone who has taught over there and had a good experience. My son would say he doesn't speak Japanese, but he does know some. He knows a lot of phrases and I think he knows some katakana and some kanji. I have been "learning" Japanese on Duolingo, and it is extremely hard! He was supposed to be in Ninohe, Iwate, but his visa took a long time and they ended up putting someone else there and now he is going to be in Sapporo, Hokkaido. He is looking forward to the cooler weather. He wanted to be up north. He is in the air now. He'll have will have a week of training in Sendai before he goes to Sapporo.
Hokkaido is awesome! It's just a bit of a pain getting anywhere else.
@Elise4270 the shoes are mizuno wave shadow. They supposedly take the place of the Wave Sayonara (which translates to wave goodbye, which has nothing to do with the discussion but suddenly struck me as hilarious). Will report back once I've run in them.1 -
I did the Flint Hills Trail Marathon today. It is not a certified course and we were told that it is not exact, which is not uncommon with trail anyway... my Garmin counted it a bit short. The road marathon I did last weekend (which is certified) was a longer (you know, imperfect tangents and such) more so than this was short. I still counted 26.2 for last weekend and I'm going to do the same for this. Will be interested to see what happens with next weekend's 50K

Transferred my 10k registration for tomorrow to the 5k, planning to walk it while my husband runs the 10k since my achilles is definitely a thing. He’s nervous because I usually act as his pacer, so this will be new for him. I told him he has to do well to uphold the honor of our household, no pressure.
The Achilles is a lot more comfortable than it was but still not normal - little bit tender and tight. I plan to give it at least another week before even trying to do anything more than walk on it. I’ve been wearing a heel cup around the house to deload it and have heel cups in my running shoes for the walk.
Tomorrow at race time we get the wind and rain which everyone in Texas got today, which ought to be fun - wind advisory says up to 40 mph gusts. And it’s windy around the lake anyway. That ought to make the whole BBQ and live music scene more exciting! People are asking on the Facebook page if the event is going to be moved, I think because they are afraid of drowning. We’ll just have to see what happens!
@MobyCarp Meb!! So cool! Me and my messed up ankle are thinking of you and your messed up foot as we both sit out races. You are still the coolest in my book.9 -
Ran 3 miles this evening. I don't usually like to run in the dark despite living in a very 'safe' area, but tonight it felt great. That puts me at 12.4/30 miles for April.5

So the Mud and Chocolate Trail Run today was definitely muddy—in the high 40s and raining for the whole race. But lots of fun! I got to really break in my Salomon Speedcross shoes—they’d never be mistaken for new now. I was really glad I got the waterproof ones, as they kept my feet nice and dry through many many puddles. My pace was a bit all over the place because I walked a couple of hills, but my splits were pretty even. They didn’t do age group categories, but with just over 90 runners I was the #3 45+ female over the finish line, which I thought was pretty great, since I never raced a trail run before (and am not fast in general)!
Now I’m even more committed to incorporating more hills in my training (though probably post half-marathon, since it’s in just a couple of weeks.. and net downhill) I also need to get some better socks! My no-show ones work fine with my road shoes, but I need some heel tabs for the trail shoes—had a popped heel blister the last 1.5 miles.
Also, it was the first time I ordered a size M race shirt—I almost traded it up without trying it on, but surprisingly it ended up fitting. Yay. Aaand, since this 4.5 mi trail run was a bit too long for what my 10-y.o. has been doing, and he also wanted to do the color run, I signed us (and my 16 y.o.) up for that the weekend after my half.
April goal: 70 mi

The run was horrible today. There was a steady rain and I ended running pretty slow so I was in the rain way longer than I hoped, but I had to get out today. I brought the dog along because not only does the dog usually get antsy after about 2 miles, but she also hates the rain, so I thought if I took her with me she would be so difficult to run with after 2 miles that I would be forced to stop. Sadly, that plan did not work and not only did the dog have no problem with running the 3.5 miles, but she wasn't even annoyed with the rain. So, instead of bailing out early I ended up running the whole 3.5 miles in a pretty steady heavy rain. Other then my lower legs being tired and some soreness in the knees my body felt ok. There is supposed to be a break in the weather over the next couple of days so the next run should be in much better weather.
4/1--2.5 miles
4/3--2 miles
4/6--3 miles
4/10--2 miles
4/13--3.5 miles
Races:
3/24--Mercer Island 5k 46:11
6/8--Fall City Day Run 10k
7/6--Bellingham Road Race

No running today. I managed to drag miss 4 (ahhh she's 5 in a week!!) and miss 2 on a good walk along the beach, managing about 2ks in ah hr haha. I'm now really looking for to a good run tomorrow. The last couple of days off has done me some good. 11 days in a row is impressive for me. I'm 10k behind where I wanted to be at this point, but I'm planning on doing a 15k run either Thursday or Friday (holidays yay!) and hopeful will do 7-8k each other day. So far I'm 60/150k and 2 weeks left to the month.1

@garygse and @elise4270 - the cat comments made me laugh out loud! So funny! Stay safe from the storms!
@amymoreorless - you too and anyone else in the path of those storms - please stay safe!
@katharmonic - glad you were able to enjoy some nice So California weather! Running in San Diego is so awesome. There seems to be a much larger running community there or maybe it is just more cohesive. Several ladies that I know from the Oiselle Volee group ran the Ragnar.
@butterchop - congrats on your race with your daughter! Sounds like you both did fantastic!
@Tramboman - don't give up on that goal yet, there's a heck of a lot of 2019 left to work on it! You may surprise yourself at another race later this year!
@girlinahat - love where you get to run! So beautiful!
@mobycarp - love the picture with Men! Soak up as much of that attention as you can. You certainly deserve it!
@Scott6255 - love those shoes! Brooks has the best designs and I really lust after them but cannot wear them ☹️
@midwesterner85 - You are doing an amazing job hitting all these races so soon after surgery! Wow!
@simcon1 - your race sounds like it was fun and you did great! Congratulations!3 -
Ran to the one hill close to me that I don't have to drive to. It is a brutal hill (don't know the % grade) and clearly I have not been running hills in a while and it showed! Most embarrassing part was there was a guy walking up the hill behind us and when I paused to catch my breath he passed me WALKING! I made a comment to him about powering up the hill like it was nothing and he said he walks it all the time and well I haven't run a hill of really any size in probably 8 months or more. I did end up running the opposite, maybe not quite as steep side, twice because I went back down to talk to a couple that also has a Vizsla they were walking. Hobbes enjoyed the visit too even if their dog wasn't too interested in him 😁 We got it done and got in all the miles I wanted and then some (plan was for 8-9 hilly miles) and I was not dieing the last 4 miles home. I do now know I can finish that HM in May even if it is slow, slow, slow and I end up walking the hills. I will be going back to conquer this hill again and be able once again to run all the way to the top without walking or stopping.
Tomorrow we head out on a road trip for about a week. My running close were set out and packed first and I have all contingencies covered as it could be pretty warm (AZ) or cold (NM) when I get out to run. I am looking forward to running in some new places with new sights to see!
