NICE!! Congratulations!
@7lenny7 I'm excited for your race and trip. I'll be over in the Seattle area this weekend but will be looking forward to hearing about it!
My right hamstring was still upset at me this morning, but when walking the dogs, I ran a few 1-2 block intervals anyway. I realized I miss doing intervals. I might have to do those on my shorter runs after this race.
At lunchtime today, I did a Feldenkrais lesson on "mobilizing your core" for running. Or something like that. It was actually really cool. I had to skip most of the running before/after the lesson because of a meeting, but still recognized improvements after the lesson. I'm really looking forward to my run tomorrow with my coworkers.9 -

One measly mile today - actually it was just .95 miles according to Garmin. This was a short warmup before circuit training group. It was intentionally a light day for training today and then I did yoga after. This week I just want to keep it light so I can be rested and not sore.

I think this sinus thing is turning into something else. I felt better this morning, after sleeping more last night. I played tennis at 10, indoors. I did okay, but there was a lot of coughing going on.
Then, I went to work with 11 two year olds. They were napping when I got there. I was sitting, watching them, when I sneezed and needed a tissue. I don't work in the room often, so asked where they were. The other teacher told me they were on the counter, by the sink. Problem was, it was darkish in the room, the box was brown, and the counter top was brown. I was trying to find them and not step on a sleeping child when I kicked a little chair that had been left right in the middle of the room that I didn't see. It toppled over. I didn't want to kick the chair into a child, so stepped over the seat. Unfortunately, I stepped onto the seat back, which is now flat on the floor. It went scooting, and down I went on my right knee. It scrapped my knee through my pants and it hurts a little, but doesn't appear to be swollen any. Just my luck.
As the day went on, I just started feeling a little bit worse. By the time I got home, I was feeling a little feverish. Took my temperature. I was 99.2, which isn't very high on a normal person, but mine normally runs 97.2. I wanted to get in some mileage, so went out for a walk. It wasn't easy, but I did 1.6 miles.
I hope I feel better in the morning. I'm supposed to cook a meal for a Relay For Life fundraiser. Fingers crossed.13 -
@7lenny7 if conveyor belts are not your style, my brother and his wife spoke very highly of “bamboo sushi” as their favorite in town. They did mention it was a little higher end, also. My friend and I were quite content to create $20 fish food babies.
Yesterday I focused on some mobility and some of my pt exercises. It’s becoming evident that I am going to have to focus on prehab if I’m going to stay over 15 miles per week or more with my gimpy ankle.
Today, I got in 2.3 miles. = 31.2/404 -
@Avidkeo I have new x rays. He was very pleased with the bone growth. I think the articulation of the hip look much better than it had. I’m hoping that alleviates my torn labrum pain.
Ohhhhhh pretty, thanks for sharing!!! yep that growth looks fantastic! nice healing. and I'm glad to see the radiographer used protection on you, excellent practice.0 -

I was pleased with the apron placement too. I had a surprise visit from af as I arrived. Nice the doc and I didn’t have to chat about the bone while pretending not to be staring at a tampon.5 -

Gorgeous evening here. We took our dog for a walk and ran into 2 other families we know doing the same. Everyone talked about how wonderful it was outside, especially since it'll be 99 degrees on Friday. Later I went for a run.

All packed up and ready to go! Just relaxing with some single malt Scotch and snuggling with Kody before I go to bed. We head to the airport just past noon so I'll have time to sleep in a bit. The flight is 3h45m nonstop. Round trip is only $211 each and we're renting a minivan for just $145 for 6 days.
The race allows two drop bags, one at 22 miles and one at 37. I'm trying to minimize what I bring so I just have bare essentials and am using string bags for drop bags. The biggest thing I have is a pair of socks in each. I think I read there are 12 water crossing, some calf deep.
I still don't know what my wife has for the rest of our time there, other than I know she wants to go winery hopping. We love Oregon pinot noir!
I want to go people watching in Portland. I can't think of a better place for that. And I want to eat. @hanlonsk I dropped the hint about the conveyor sushi and it seemed like she might go for that. And yes, I think it would be my style.
In my head I'm going back and forth between being very excited and very anxious about the race. Everything feels great now but 50 miles is a long time for things to go wrong. One thing in my favor is that I'm completely comfortable with the idea of being DFL. With a 14 hour limit I'd be thrilled with 13h59m59s for my time.
If there's reception on the trail I'll post some photos during the race.

@midwesterner85 - I can't imagine running back to back marathons like that right after running a 50k!
@7lenny7 - Hope you can make it through your race without pain or rein jury. Can you tape around your heel and achilles for some added support? Hobbes actually had a great road trip. We were surprised that the National Park was dog friendly even off the paved trails. You can even hike and camp with your dog in that park. He was also welcome in the UFO museum and into many of the historical sites in Los Alamos.
@simcon1 - this is a HM taper plan from Jeff Galloway that I have used before and worked well for me. Or you could run another long run and then take it easy the week before your race, but if you have run 10 you are likely just fine to run the HM.
I got in a make up long run today for the long run I missed out on on Saturday. I changed my intervals to 2 min run 30 sec walk and it worked well. I may increase the run interval just a little though - I don't feel like I was running enough. I also had a terrible upset stomach resulting in 3 bathroom stops. I think I may have been a little dehydrated from the drive yesterday - it's the only thing I can think of. I did take note not to run a long run on the same day as agility class. I was exhausted already and then to have to race around on the grass field with Hobbes was tough. He of course still had plenty of energy. Now though, he is crashed out on the couch 😁

@7lenny7 - I know you have family there but for my 2 cents - there is SO much good food (and wine) in Portland - maybe a trip to VooDoo Donuts if you haven't been before. There is also a place called the Waffle Window that has really yummy sweet and savory waffles... Of course not food related but I can't go to Portland without a trip to Powell's books either - you could get lost in there!
Of course I hope the race is awesome - I am sure it will be beautiful and we will all be cheering for you!8 -
0423-5k total-45k, goal-75k
Girlfriend wanted a short run last night but bailed out on me, so I was left with a half an hour of spare time and length of empty road. Did a 4km speed-up (or tempo, however you look at it) with a 1km cool down.
Man it was hot. Garmin gave me 23-27 degrees Celsius (high 70s for Fahrenheit people). Summer is already upon us and I'm not acclimated at all. Kept telling myself to embrace the suck because this is probably the coolest weather I'll get until October.12 -

@7lenny7 Off topic but THANK YOU for mentioning your flight and car rental costs. It reminded me to check for lower rates for our reservation this summer. I was able to save over $250 on the minivan!5

@7lenny7 so excited to hear about your race this weekend!
I think I have officially decided that the Brooks Glycerin 16s don't work for me. Everything hurt in them last night on my short run. I'm so depressed. I've been running in Glycerins since I first started running, back in around 2011 I think. I'm not sure where to turn now. I always struggle to find shoes that don't make my feet go numb. Maybe Altra road shoes, since I have the Lone Peaks as my trail shoes. Ugh.
In happier news, this Saturday is my Run For the Wild 5k at the Bronx Zoo! It's my 5th year doing this race, and it's the one big fundraiser I do every year! It's one of my all time fave events! And, my company totally came through. They donated $800 to my fundraiser! Just in case anyone is interested, here's my fundraising page: https://my.wcs.org/fundraiser/1836605
I highly recommend the show The Zoo, on Animal Planet, for anyone who is interested. It's currently in season 3 and is a documentary about the Bronx Zoo (and other NYC zoos run by the Wildlife Conservation Society). It's super fascinating!
I did a short tempo run last night. Only two miles but it felt good to push! Other than the stupid shoes, lol.
