WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR APRIL 2019

Meet Mavis and Charlotte. Our latest additions to our family. They are teacup goats about 3 months old. Our rooster is as big or bigger than they are. They love running and playing in the yard. They head-butt each other. And follow my husband around the yard hoping for a special treat.... animal crackers. So far they seem to be getting along with the chickens and ducks. Our pot bellied piggy wants nothing to do with any of them. She is aloof.
We should get a male goat in June.
I'll get more pics later. I forget to take my phone with me when I'm going out there.

Allie ~ Evie said, "Allie, good grief! A 30 year old man needs his daddy to call his former employer because he got fired??" That is exactly what I was thinking. Perhaps your Dr. P hired him in the first place because of a friendship with dad.
Dr.Katie ~ The rug looks great and your other red accents add to the beauty of the room.
Michele ~ I think your "ministry" must be baking so many good foods for those you encounter. What a blessing you are to them.
Lisa ~ We love Celtic Women and would love to see them. I think some of the original casts are no longer with them, but, I am sure they are still wonderful.
Dr. said the knee replacement surgery went great. Went in for admissions at 5:30 and arrived home again at 3:30. Many hours of just plain waiting to be moved from one spot to another. I am icing and inclining the knee and using the walker. Biggest worry is potential blood clots and opening up the lungs for good breathing.

Carol - Glad things went well with the knee! I hope you are able to get some pain free rest this evening.
Okie0 -
Carol - Glad you're home and it went well! Ice will be your best friend for a while, and moving more every day, as much as you can. You'll do great!
Katiebug - love that living room.
Ginger - I now have goat envy...
Bad sinus headache... Weather coming in, it will pass along with the storm.

Glad to hear it went well. From my own experience with blood clots, try to get up and move at least once an hour.

Ha ha.. no Dr P hired him because he talked a good game and blew smoke up Dr Ps butt..
Good riddance to bad rubish.2 -
Carol so glad you've got the surgery behind you, keep on icing, resting, and moving.
Allie the grown up man who got fired had his father call the office ???? yeeeesh
Katie love the rug, ties everything together. We're looking at a few small reno projects as well, our budget can only stretch so far, so we choose our projects like you, gotta prioritize and do as much DIY as we can.
Tomorrow is my last day of work before a week off, phew am I happy about that. Today was a beautiful sunny day, I felt so happy to just feel the sun beaming down on my face.

I have made my friend who owns the stable very angry & don’t know what to do about it. I was supposed to participate in a work party at a local park with her and others, but DH had a bad spell and begged me to say home with him. I felt as though I had an impossible situation and that DH had to come first. I’m sorry that I couldn’t attend, and sorrier that she is mad. Any advice on repairing the friendship would be welcome.
Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon
It's so hard to choose between your husband's needs and your commitment to your friend at the stable. Take time to tell her how sorry you are to have been unable to help her, but your husband's needs had to come first. Then let go of any expectations and be prepared for her to stay angry. Angry people often see only their own side of any situation.
Carol Congrats on getting through the surgery and taking the first steps to follow directions for the recovery protocol.
Ginger, I love the goats.
Rebecca, Great list and great reminder for us all.
Michele, Your ceramic painting is always beautiful. What a great hobby for you.

11 days off has begun!! I love it when ANZAC Day is this close to Easter.
Still lots to do, but no work or university.
I've had to be up early today but I've sat at my table overlooking the bay and lingered over coffee for a long time.

Rebecca – when we moved to NC we rented 5 storage units, moved a truckload at a time from PA, moved here, found a home, and moved from the storage units to the house.
Vicki – genius taking a selfie (not)
Wish I could go for a walk, but I don’t think I’ll have time. We need to eat dinner early and then hopefully pick up Loki’s medicine and then go to ceramics. Tonight need to stop at Lowes Foods.
Carol – glad to hear the surgery went well.
Barbie – I don’t know what it is, but ceramics is so very relaxing to me. One part of me thinks it may have to do with being able to enjoy the finished product. But I can enjoy a quilt, but to me that just isn’t relaxing at all. But ceramics is Oh, I think my PigPen (Peanuts character) will be ready to be fired Monday. Then I’ll work on Snoopy and at the same time Charlie Brown since Snoopy is really just black and white. That should go quite fast.
Bev – I showed this one guy at ceramics tonight a picture of my frog and he asked where I got the pinwheel stake. He at first was surprised when I told him “the dollar store”.
Pip – I was looking forward to learning to use the ski machine at the Y, but by the time I wanted to, they’d gotten rid of it. I’m suspecting that’s because very few people were using it. Didn’t you leave your YMCA?

Hi Gals,
Kind is a great thing. It is easy to get over involved in your own space and forget to look up, reach out - sometimes just a smile is the kindest thing.
Allie – So glad to hear that the office felt so good without him, and I’m sorry but he had his daddy call???? Grow up!
Katiebug – the livingroom looks great, and I love the idea of one room at a time.
Carol – so glad to see you back posting so soon!
The weather has gone to completely gorgeous – and the weeds are celebrating by growing !!! I think some have grown 4 or 5 inches overnight!!!

I'm also on a kind kick lately. Kindness is a lost art. The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, thankfulness, and self-control, "against such things there are no laws." One of my colleagues pointed out that 'being right' is not one of the fruits. So many times we exchange being right for being kind.

Rita - you look wonderful!
Barbara - my biggest fear about owning pets is what happens in emergencies and me not being able to afford the bill. I’m so happy for you that Scooter is still with you and hopefully on the mend.
Margaret - beautiful painting
Lisa - I understand your feeling. The last time I had that was 2011. I don’t know how long it will be before feeling it again. I think next time I will attempt to enjoy it more and not worry so much about what could go wrong.
Kate - I wish my husband would look at aids. I am so tired of being accused of mumbling and I hate how loud the tv has to be.
Michele - love your Winnie the Pooh, I have thought about doing the diamond dots, how are they for the eyes? Love the frog, a little dab of glue should hold the pinwheel in place.
Allie - what great news about Michael leaving!
Carol - so sad about your Brother in Law. Sorry I missed sending well wishes for your surgery, I hope it all went well.
Kay - it’s probably for the best you had the septic looked at now rather then later, it could have been even more. What a beautiful rug and living room.
Rebecca - we moved one time from one townhouse to the another in the row across from us. It was the worse move we ever had and seemed to go on forever because we didn’t pack and carried things back and forth. I would recommend a few boxes to load in the car even if you don’t pack properly. Good luck to you.
Machka - I’m taking note of the two word quote site as well.
Katla - maybe after she has some time to reflect she will understand that your husband comes first and she will apologize for her anger. I would give it a day or two to try to talk it through. These situations are never easy.
Heather - hope your cold is gone soon. Isn’t one on one time with each grandchild precious. We have very rarely had Michaela alone but today on my way home I stopped and picked her up. We had a lovely afternoon.
Evelyn - I hope he lives up to his promises of jobs as well. I will remain silent on anything else I have to say about him.
Ginger - love your goats!
Wow! I didn’t have a chance to log in at all yesterday while I worked the election. I was the Registration Officer and had to register about 150 people throughout the day. It was busy all day!
I don’t think I had a chance on Monday to check in later in the day but I had been told by a friend that a friend of hers was looking for an assistant. I wasn’t going to send my resume in as it is just North if downtown Edmonton and I am actually about 20 minutes south of Edmonton’s south side. It will be about a 45 minute drive and with only one vehicle hard for me to even get to. On Monday after meeting with the career counsellor and feeling very discouraged by her I decided I would send my resume and figure out how to get there if I was offered the job. I immediately heard back from her and she asked me to meet with her yesterday. I couldn’t because of the election obligation so we met this morning at 8.
So the company specializes in helping other businesses get the best fit of group benefits and pension programs for their employees. My role would be answering employees questions, and ensuring they understand what they are signing and doing before and after they sign on the dotted line. I would be travelling to different locations and meeting one on one and teaching in group settings.
The only drawback is I have absolutely no experience in financial management. Sarah, the lady I met, really likes me and has decided that she will send me documents, books, websites and tools to learn the terminology, what legislation I should know, etc so that when it comes time for a formal interview with her boss I will be better prepared. The formal interview won’t be until around the middle of May. The job starts around June 6 and I would be able to travel to and from work with Rodger most days as the hours are a bit flexible. She also has already agreed to let me have the week of Kaitlyn’s wedding off.
The financial rewards are awesome. I have high hopes for this!
I will still look for other things in the meantime, but maybe not quite as hard. I also received an email for an interview for another company I had applied for, I have responded to tell them my availability.
If it’s meant to be it will be!
I was feeling so happy and positive after I left there I decided to stop and kidnap Michaela to come spend the day with us. It is Wednesday so they would be here this evening anyway but I never get her alone so I took her. We are had a fun day!
Sorry for writing a novel!

Hey, Tracey, that sounds great! A steep learning curve, but that's just learning stuff, which can be a fun challenge and it sounds as if the knowledge would be useful to have anyway. I'm rooting for you.
Looking forward to seeing Edie. Got to do our exercises first as the family are all going to the dentist and she will be dropped off around 11.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
The sinus headache passed with the storm, as I thought it would. I usually only get one of those a year or so, but they are real showstoppers. Woke up feeling fine.
Tracey - many good wishes headed your way for the job. I love the jobs where I learn new things, and it sounds as if you have someone who's on your side working for you there, which is always helpful.
SueBDew - hope the hail didn't create havoc with your flowers. That same storm is the one that rolled through here last night about midnight and was creating havoc with my sinuses. I'll be driving through it most of the morning, but by the time I get on the road, most of the thunder and lightning should have died down.
I do love looking at weather systems, don't know why - this one caught a lot of of us in its path. That little tiny red squiggle in the middle of the green is my approximate path this morning. I don't mind driving in the rain as long as I'm not driving in the dark and in the rain, so will definitely wait 'til daylight before I get on the road. Staying in a hotel in Little Rock tonight, presentation tomorrow, home tomorrow mid-afternoon.
Love y'all,

I know both her and my dad keep an eye on Sean and I ,I had my tea and watched Joyce.. she had a powerful message this morning.. and made me feel wonderful.. so wonderful to wake up Joyful..
I was so happy that my DFIL ate last night.. I know we have limited time with him,but know that Tom knows that his dad is in good hands and can do what needs to be done down in Florida..
I am sure once DFIL passes and the dogs pass away our relationship will fade.. but that is just the way of life..
I am so blessed to have my health, healthy children and grandchildren. have food on the table and a roof over my head.. and wonderful family and friends .. My Heart is full..7 -
Edie was delivered earlier than expected!!! She soon set about making DH beautiful and I found my old wig that I had during my cancer chemo.
This is me. Brings back memories. I used to have long dark hair, but not as luxurious as the wig!
We have done Lego and now are painting. Soon off to have lunch at the beach café where we go for Swing dancing.
Much love, Heather UK XXXXXX10 -

Taking a bit of time to look over posts before the workday starts. Day will be long--work, serve at church food pantry, Maundy Thursday service, then a choir practice after for Good Friday. Started off day with 30 minutes on treadmill to give me some energy and a good start to meeting step goal of 10,000. I am finding I really enjoy starting my day with movement.
Not sure how weight is doing--was out of town on Monday and Tuesday at conference and Monday is my official weigh in day. While I did well with logging, restaurant food is always a guess--just made sure I stayed away from break food. Did order a slice of chocolate cake at Cheesecake factory--ate half of it. Took rest back to hotel and didn't touch it--left it there. I consider that a good victory.
Tried on a couple of motivation pants and I can get in to them. A bit more muffin top with them than I like, so I will probably not wear them yet, but good to know I am back to being able to zip and button them. I am noticing stomach and legs tightening up nicely with increase in walking, stretching and light weights. Regardless of what scale may say when I weigh in, body is feeling better. Since I am very close to normal BMI (or perhaps already there if you believe past your 60's you should be more like 26-30 in BMI) I figure weight will continue to come off slowly but overall fitness and toning can greatly improve. Not sure what final goal weight will be. Just going to keep doing what I a doing and see where my body feels best. I turn 65 in November, and I will sure be in better shape than I was at 60.
Good luck today for those of you with struggles--unfortunately that is part of life but it is inspiring seeing how people are finding ways to cope and stay positive--that has always been the key for me.

Good morning everyone!
Storms rolled through over night. Tornado Warning went off on the phone and my watch about 11 pm. What did I do, went outside to see how it felt (couldn't see anything since it was dark). It didn't feel like tornado weather so I got out the weather radio and the battery lantern and watched the weather to see what they were reporting. About 10 minutes later they showed that we were about a mile outside of the warned polygon area on the map. About 20 minutes later the warning expired with no tornadic activity reported. You can take the girl out of Oklahoma, but you can't take the Okie out of the girl. Slept OK after the storm rolled through, but it was a short night for sure.

Hi Everyone! My name is Kim and I'm newly retired and having to face the consequences of going through periods of my past 50+ years of dieting and exercising and then doing nothing for long periods of time. I've been using the app since February for exercise recording and just started logging and measuring food April 1st. It's a pain but I needed the discipline and accountability.
We moved to another state to retire and now I have a new doctor and he's getting on my case about my weight and health (which bugs me but I really think it's a good thing). Does anyone else hate the term "morbidly obese"?? He wanted to put me on medications for cholesterol but since I'm only a little high, I said no way and opted to try and fix this by diet and exercise. In anticipation of my March appointment, I started out in January just getting back into the exercise thing, walking and riding my recumbent bicycle, then started weight training on March 1st and now I have a routine established where I alternate weights and cycling on alternate days. My husband and I like to take bicycle tours so at least I have an exercise I enjoy. We have our own recumbent bicycles and a recumbent bicycle built for two. He works out with weights as well so it helps to have someone to drag my butt to the gym if I don't feel like it.
I like protein in the morning so I was dismayed by how much sodium my "healthy turkey breakfast sausage" had so this morning I made a turkey sausage recipe from www.skinnytaste.com. It has a lot less sodium and is really yummy. I plan to keep making batches and freezing the cooked patties.
The biggest challenge for me is that my husband likes to go out on Fridays and Saturdays, which usually involves craft beer and a meal out. The places we go are not in the database so that is a challenge. I'm trying to talk him down to one night per weekend. He usually cooks for us (it's his thing) but since I have to measure and weigh everything, I end up in the kitchen with him. I told him I would take over that one night of cooking instead of going out.
I'm extremely encouraged because I've lost 11.8 pounds since my 3/27 doctor's appointment. I know this will slow down so I hope nothing happens to divert me from what I'm doing now.
My goals are to get my weight and my overall cholesterol below 200. My immediate goal for April is to stay the course no matter how little weight I may lose in the weeks going forward.9 -

I like to think whatever the reason the building is a symbol of the faith. The faith itself will survive whatever disasters are thrown at it. For me the flower I painted was my belief that even in the midst of horrible disasters I can find beauty. This is the theme of the film Life is Beautiful.
Also in the following poem:
I believe in the sun even when it is not shining;
I believe in love even when feeling it not;
I believe in God even when he is silent.
— An inscription on the wall of a cellar in Cologne where a number of Jews hid themselves for the entire duration of the war.
We sang a version of this poem in our choir.
Margaret - my choir has sung two beautiful versions of this. "Even when God is Silent" - so incredibly powerful, and "I Believe" - has a beautiful soprano obligato over the middle line of the poem. I sang the obligato. The last stanza is a solo that my then 14 year old daughter sang. Not a dry eye left in the church.
There are many gorgeous places of faith representing many faiths in our world. I'm so glad Notre Dame has been ruled a construction accident. I feel horrible for the person or persons who accidently may have started this blaze. You are correct; faith will survive.
My sister and I are still trying to figure out what to do with my mom's finances. Ultimately, we may have to sell her house. Mom can't work her little part-time job since her stroke. Her social security check is too small to cover all expenses. But I keep my head up and try to power on. Physically, mom is doing great, but returning to work just isn't happening.
Good day though...I lost 2.5 lbs since last week.
