Rebecca - What a fabulous photo! I can never get over how young your DDIL looks. I suppose everyone looks young to me now.
Barbara - Good resolution to the overload problem. My DH does the same thing, dismisses me with a cross wave if he is trying to concentrate. I also have to remember not to take it personally. You do seem to have a lovely relationship. What a blessing!
If I exercise, write and run, all is well with my world. If I don't, I feel all discombobulated.
Just washed my hair. I feel so good when I've done it I can't understand why I put it off. If I'm not going out, or socialising, I can let it get all greasy and ratty. Then I feel bad. Such a relief to have washed it.
We have Swing dancing tonight. It's going to be the Shim Sham again. ( see Utube ) I like the dance, but the teacher is not as jolly as our regular ones.

Good morning ladies!
Marta-For me,2 weeks after stopping bc,I started having pain in the joints of my hands. After looking it up and asking a couple people, the drop in estrogen can cause arthritis. My hubby lost his job in 2012 so we have no health insurance. So I’m trying natural pain relief.2 -
im up dressed and leaving for work.. have my food ready to go and fed the pooch, off to walk the other ones and feed DFIL, then a 9 hr day.. hopefully not to stressful0

Thinking about strength and such things here in the early morning... my mother's on my mind, as I saw a brief flash of her in my reflection in the mirror last night--the memory of a woman who was tired and sad, trapped in an abusive marriage, trying to keep herself and my little sister alive until she could escape, which she did in 1977... and had a heart attack the next day. She survived that, as well as six more heart attacks over the decades to come. Five of her six remaining children circled around her light during the next 22 happy years. The 20th anniversary of the stroke that killed her is just around the corner.
I get tired, and I struggle, and I whine, and then on days like today, I realize that she is still half of who I am, and the half she gave me is pure titanium. Her ability to stand up to a life so much harder than mine that I can barely comprehend it, and keep standing up to it until everyone she loved was safe and grown--that's mine to tap into when my little problems feel overwhelming. They are not.
I always get a little contemplative in hotel rooms... got to fill the silence with something I guess.
Love y'all,
Lisa12 -

I wash mine every time I shower ... which is every day I work.
I don't usually shower/wash my hair on weekends unless I've done a big ride or long run or something. 2 days without washing my hair is really as long as I should go but occasionally, when I have a 3-day weekend, I'll let it go 3 days. And then I usually wear it braided or up in some way on the 3rd day because otherwise it's not good.
I've also discovered a mousse (haven't used mousse since the early 90s!) that enhances the curl/wave in my hair ... but only on the first day. It flattens overnight.
And I've been thinking I might get a few inches lopped off and roots touched up soon. I wrestle a bit with the colour. Part of me thinks I should go dark because everyone in my classes has black hair. But part of me likes the brighter reddish-brown.
Taken 5 years ago, but much the same now.

I've moved my orthotics to flat shoes with fairly thick, not-very-flexible soles. Much better!!
I had them in my Hoka running shoes to begin with and those shoes are quite contoured. The result was that I felt like I was walking and balancing on my arches which did not feel good at all.
I've been wearing the flat shoes with the orthotics all evening and have been finding them quite comfortable. I'll walk in them tomorrow and see if they're still comfortable.
Meanwhile, we had my slow cooker meal for dinner tonight and it was really good. I don't often cook, but when I do, I use my slow cooker. And I keep it quite simple ... chicken mince, veggies, light coconut milk and a curry mix with a few more spices. I use sweet potato as one of the veg because after a few hours in the slow cooker it "disappears" and becomes a thickener for the sauce.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday! Thanks to all for the words of encouragement in taking my childcare home to the next level (group home). I am kind of worried that they won't approve the zoning. I have heard from other providers in the area that they don't grant group very often. I plan to stand before them with an arsenal of paperwork, evidence of experience and have a few of my childcare parents and neighbors in the audience to back me up! lol
Heather- IF I can be approved for group care, it will allow me to get all of our debt paid off (including our mortgage) in about eight years (plus be able to begin a retirement account and have a bit of cushion for emergencies or visits to Texas!). After eight years, I would be able to sock the majority of what I will be earning into a retirement account. That will add up quickly and put me at possibly being able to retire at 70.
Ginny- Yes! I am licensed only for the state of Michigan. If a provider moves to another state they need to complete that state's licensing requirements.
Lisa- Sending you hugs! It is a bit sobering thinking of those we loved and have lost; especially when we are away from home!
Heather (again)- Enjoy your time with Max! I love how you are able to take turns with the kids, so that they have their own special time with you. As Max is outnumbered by his sisters, I imagine he really enjoys that time!
The past couple of weeks in my daycare we have been studying science and art. We have done science experiments and created art projects from most of them. Yesterday, I tried a new one with the kids; making egg shell geodes (we studied crystals/rocks yesterday GEOLOGY was the word for the day). Anyway, the geodes were really easy and turned out so beautiful. I will post a pic later, after I do the big reveal for the parents and kids. Other projects we have completed is the walking rainbow, the color changing volcanos, water surface tension (bubbles and bubble painting), how many drops of water will fit on a penny. Today we will be studying science terminology (chemical reactions, catalysts, exothermic reactions, gas, and pressure). We will be making unicorn toothpaste and taking prints of the "outcome" on paper. We will also be making color explosions on a large piece of paper outside using sandwich baggie "color bombs".
And...I have run out of time again. Kids arriving. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

Machka - my foot doc and the guy who made my orthotics are after me to get the Hoka shoes and what you describe is what I am leery of. I don't intend to run - my feet seem to be doing well with the orthotics in New Balance shoes, but they'll wear out in a few months.
What shoes do you wear in the winter when it gets rainy? And what kind of socks? I've been having pretty good luck with runner's "toe socks" since my shoes have a wide toe box.
Has anyone been to a foot reflexologist? There's a gal in town who comes highly recommended. I doubt she can "cure" my metatarsalgia and foot problems, but I have a hunch she will sense and hopefully release some other troublesome areas.

Hi Everyone, I know you are 58 pages into your thread for June, but I wanted to just jump in and say I'd love to join the conversation next month if possible. I'm really struggling with doing this all on my own and could use some like-minded (and like-aged !) friends to do this with.10

Michelle NC - It’s my new steamer I bought from Walmart.com $29.25 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hamilton-Beach-5-5-Quart-Digital-Steamer-Model-37530/43202556
Steams you use arrows to put time so far always seems to be 22min for veggie y fish I cook a whole meal except the salad at once. When done it turns to warmer setting until I get JR situated then hubby lol then me so the food stays hot for me/occasionally hubby too. It’s easy I start it 22min before meal time preprepared the veggies slicing etc only 5minutes before that.
Barbara SOC - Milk intolerances run on the Native American side of my Dads family some German ones it’s prevalent so Doctors put me on soy milk formula as a babe which upset grandpa he fed me goats milk 🐐 on top of it lol. Everyone on Dads side drinks goats milk y goat products. Moms family never heard of it so I got very sick at her Moms ...luckily that sides mainly vegan so always was some plant based mills on hand if I could wait for their houses.
My Daughter I used cows formula winged her onto Soymilk (estrogen based she’s a girl with high testosterone levels so it helped with her development) . JR milk/soy mixed based formula winged him onto Almond milk. Both will eat cow based cheeses to goat milk products, but their main milks plant based for baking to cereals. We were talking about how things have changed when we were kids folks had locks 🔐 on their fridges even now it’s illegal. Was only meal time a snack was a treat you worked. Now snacks all day long skipped meals y kids don’t start working as soon as they can pick up y carry stuff. We joked kids now wouldn’t be able to handle our pasts lol. Wasn’t illegal to leave a bruise so the spanking belt hung next to the stove with the knife sharpener belt ouch. We survived hot wheel tracks y thinks trucks made of metal that were chipped even rusted lol. We could play outside without a parent standing over us at 13! I still remember Grandpa turning on the radio 📻 he had it hooked to speakers 🔊 for the farm animals we could listen to it watch the sun set on the desert 🌵 goats 🐐 looking at us like were nuts. Time for bed monstrous eyes glowing 3cows that loved to stand at the window lol they watched us like we were their night entertainment. Only 2 bedrooms-1 for mom/Dad - 1 for kids Rest spilled out into the living rooms lol. Now they require 1 room per kid only boy with boy/girl with girl in a room no more than 2 if your town allows. Definitely different times I used to have an older boy cousin reading 📖 comic books with a flashlight 🔦 until us younger kids fell asleep lol still got a few of the comics. I still remember older cousin tip toe out to play with the older kids who got to stay up eat a bowl of cereal play cards ♦️.

I have returned my Hoka running shoes to normal and will use them without the orthotics for running, when I return to running. They were my most comfortable running shoes anyway. They aren't bad for walking but I find them just a bit "rock-y" for that ... as in they rock as though they're going to shoot you off the start line on a run. Or like how a rocking horse rocks. Putting the orthotics in them made them so "rock-y" I actually felt a bit dizzy.
In the winter, I wear boots. I have pairs and pairs of boots. Brown boots, black boots, even a pair of burgundy boots. Short boots, tall boots. I love boots!! There are a couple with taller heels, a couple with low heels, but most are fairly flat.
I go into double socks in winter - thin ones as a base layer and thicker wool ones over them.
I've recently put together that stiffer soled shoes work better for me. I've got arthritis in the joints where the big toe joins the foot on both feet but quite badly on the right foot. The orthotics are designed to help me keep pressure off that joint and they do seem to accomplish that. But I've discovered that if shoes have a lot of flex to them, I end up with a lot of pressure on that joint, whereas if they've got stiff soles, it's better. My flat boots have fairly stiff soles and so they're reasonably comfortable. And I've recently picked up a couple pair of stiff soled walking shoes.

Machka- My shoes if working I went to MENS orthopedic shoes Walmart/Sketchers they last longer made better y well supported more less cutesy more reliable. At home got a pair of Sketchers ortho gel tennis’s with gel insoles y bought Sketchers gel ortho restaurant shoes there too nonslip. I can’t walk barefoot my very high arches fell every pregnancy until I’m now flat footed. My Doctor has me wearing tennis shoes from morning to bed. I found sandals for when my floors wet at night (mopping at night only JR why lol) the sandals are sketchers with gel also ! I got a pair of regular Women’s orthopedic shoes from a specialty shop for when I walk long distances but I fell in love with sketchers orthopedic gel shoes more for everyday to grocery shopping trips.

Dana ~ I had to look up the fries you made (can't remember how to spell them). I don’t know where to buy that but it sounds interesting. Google said they were low calorie and high fiber.
Rebecca ~ Agree with Heather! Your DnL looks so young and seems to have gotten her figure back really quickly. Handsome family and cute birthday cake.
Michele ~ We have the Medicare Advantage Plan and are very happy with it. We use the Wellstar Health Care system and have not found a doctor that doesn’t use it. I did however have problems getting a dermatology appointment with a practice that doesn’t take all Medicare Plans.
Lisa ~ Sorry about your sad memories of growing up but glad that you realize what strength your mom passed on to you.
Kelly ~ I taught 5th grade science and am blown away by the neat things you do with your children. Good luck on getting the zoning board to approve your new plan.
Air Fryer: Do any on you have one and what brand would you recommend? I would love to get one but afraid it would just take up too much counter space (which I don't have a lot of).

Machka your posting about brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) led me to this,
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-intermittent-fasting-might-help-you-live-longer-healthier-life/?redirect=1
"Mattson thinks that intermittent fasting acts in part as a form of mild stress that continually revs up cellular defenses against molecular damage. For instance, occasional fasting increases the levels of “chaperone proteins,” which prevent the incorrect assembly of other molecules in the cell. Additionally, fasting mice have higher levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that prevents stressed neurons from dying. Low levels of BDNF have been linked to everything from depression to Alzheimer's, although it is still unclear whether these findings reflect cause and effect. Fasting also ramps up autophagy, a kind of garbage-disposal system in cells that gets rid of damaged molecules, including ones that have been previously tied to Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other neurological diseases."
which led me to these.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3106288/ "Our data lead us to speculate that sporadic fasting might represent a simple, safe and inexpensive means to promote this potentially therapeutic neuronal response."
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0959438818300011 ". . .defects in autophagy underlie neurodegeneration in mice and humans."
Hey all you intermittent fasters, you get more persuasive all the time. Oops, down the rabbit hole.
Time to get up and harvest herbs.
Lighter, lovelies!

Barbara - thanks for gathering all this info about the benefits of intermittent fasting.
Like Joe, my DH has very similar reactions to his own family and their dramas. For the longest time, he'd only hear from them when they needed money it seems.... and we were having our own struggles keeping our heads above water.
He sometimes returns their phone calls, often doesn't.
He says all he needs is me and the dogs. Oh, and the TV remote and beer fridge.

I made chicken soup yesterday---the easy kind with a boneless, skinless thighs, carrots, celery, onions, and packaged low sodium chicken broth. There was enough to freeze two pints of broth, two quarts of soup, and have soup to serve for lunch today with jasmine rice.
Kelly, good luck with your new plan
Michele, do your research about a Medicare Advantage Plan. If you can't go to the doctors you like, it won't be a good choice even if you get a free gym membership.
Today I'll be pulling weeds before I can spread any more bark. I think my project is more than half finished and the yard looks great from the street.
I did planks every day for years and could do about three minutes. But since my spine surgery in 2016 and my spine compression fracture 10 months ago, I've not done them. Yesterday I was inspired to try again and 30 seconds was just right.

I got an online voucher for a food delivery company, so decided to use it. Seemed a no brainer. 15% off.
Oh, the problems getting through the process! I'd used them years before with an old address, old card etc. In the end I had to phone them and the very nice man sorted me out! Grrrrrrrrrr! Wasted an hour for £8.28 saving.
Anyway, it's coming tomorrow. He gave me three months free delivery to compensate me.
Then I wandered round the corner to the butcher. I don't go there often enough as the small supermarket is so near. Bought veal escalopes for tonight, goat meat for the freezer and two big chicken legs for curry tomorrow.
On Tuesdays we have to have something light, a bit earlier than usual to enable it to settle before the dancing! Broccoli with mine.
Weather looking grey. We are expecting thunderstorms overnight.

12:40 ... midnight.
7C outside with a "feels like" temp of 2C
It has been raining all evening (13 mm) and it's windy.
There's a 3 metre swell further out, on the other side of the islands, and a 1 metre swell as it comes into the bay. It's coming in from the south, and when I was in the back of the house I could hear the waves crashing on the beach and surrounding cliffs.
So with that, I'm putting on my fleece pjs, filling my hot water bottle, and going to bed!

Lanette: I sent a message to Sue & she responded. She has been posting on the list but hasn’t been here for a time. She said that her husband has passed.
Michele & Barbara: I heard back from the vet’s office and the quarterly fee idea seems to have been dropped. I was likely not the only one who objected. :grumble: On another topic, I use stevia in my coffee. It is a plant product, and not an artificial sweetener. When baking, something I do rarely, I use sugar. Aspartame is permanently off of my list of healthy items.
Connie: Where do you live in KY? My DIL’s family lives in Lexington. We visited there several years ago. It is a nice place. :flowerforyou:
Martacamsan: I think pain in the hands is a symptom of arthritis &/or water retention. I have occasional hand pain if I eat too much salt & give myself a temporary case of water retention. You might want to check with your doctor if it is persistent or chronic. :flowerforyou:
Lisa: Your mom sounds like a strong woman and a terrific parent.
Machka: I vote for your beautiful reddish-brown hair color. Stunning!
runlaugheatpie: You can join this group any time. Jumping in in the middle of the month is okay. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: DH had orthotics made years ago that are still in use and work very well inside of his shoes. The ones he had made seem to be some sort of resin. If you are interested I may be able to get some additional details. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Your chicken soup sounds wonderful. YUM!
Heather: I’ve always enjoyed thunderstorms, especially when I am safe inside and not outdoors in them. I hope your predicted storms don’t cause any damage.
DH has his first physical therapy appointment this morning. I hope it goes well.

Carol Sc- My Airfryer is a Faberware used it to make JR cheese sandwich a minute ago . Mines tall but same size as a big coffe can to give you a size reference point. Mines like an egg timer with heat settings. Basket inside can pop out to transfer to a big plate.

Machka: I love your hair colour. It’s gorgeous. Been thinking about colouring my hair (it’s streaky grey). I get a lot of compliments, but feel very old when I see my reflection. Shoes - check out VIONICS they correct the alignment, are stylish and very, very comfortable. These are the only shoes I buy now, very bad arthritis and burned out knee joints (bone on bone both knees) should have lost the weight long time ago.
Barb: Thanks for the positive feedback. It’s good to be back, I think the tracking really helps.
Pip:Your 🚢 pics were fab. My wanderlust has been stimulated.
Lisa:It’s amazing how strong our Mom’s were. My Mom worked as an Alzheimer’s RN in a nursing home until she was 76! She only stopped when she got Alz. Now that I am exposed to the nursing home daily I can’t believe she: worked 12 hour shifts in an extremely stressful environment, raised us, kept house, gardens, commuting; you name it she did it. Those war babies were made of very strong stuff.
Keto, IF, OMAD gang:IF (intermittent fasting) really kicked my keto into first gear and is certainly part of the neuro benefits I’m experiencing. On YouTube there is a great set of videos of conferences by Jumpstart.md. These presentations by drs from all over the world explain a lot of the brain chemistry.
