that's an old pic.. I am posting a photo a day of different winkle pics. that's when I first got that scooter when I had long hair and more weight. still have the scooter, I just don't drive it anymore since I started being a year round rider tho.1 -
Katla - thank you so much for reaching out to Sue. Sorry to hear about her DH's passing, seems like he went so quickly. If you hear from her again, please let her know we are sending hugs!
Michele - lots of good advice here on Medicare and the different plans. Seems like most of them in our area, both the Medi-gap and Advantage programs also have gym memberships. We were seriously considering an Advantage plan, but went with the Medigap even tho a bit pricier and didn't include and dental, vision, or prescription coverage. Reasons: our docs don't take Medicare and have great prices on prescription drugs, our optometrist has his own "senior" pricing for exams and lenses, and the Medigap plan we chose has everything covered at 100% so no bills coming to the house for co-pays. We did sign up for the cheapest Part D we could find just to get in the system, and I have a Delta Dental plan.
Katiebug - your gym membership sounds ideal.
Rebecca - I was up at 2 with the sinus headache. A cup of coffee and sitting upright always does the trick. I'm cutting back on caffeine for my stomach's and bladder's sake ( too many trips to the "tinkletorium" but had my one cup of it. Decaf isn't so bad. Enjoy your time with Athena. Hope your son has a chance to see the sights in Australia.
Kate - Happy Anniversary! So sorry to hear your DH's infection isn't clearing quickly and your little garden isn't doing well. Last year a lot of my tomatoes didn't set fruit because it was often too HOT and I generally plant those bred for cool weather. Sigh. Summer will be officially starting here in a couple days so I hope it warms a bit and they take off for you.
I spent yesterday morning with my 2 master gardener girlfriends, Shawn & Barrie. We met up at Shawn's home and she made a great breakfast. Her garden is lovely and private so we sat on the deck for HOURS and just yakked, . They are planning a trip to Seattle to a Mariner's game in August - a local tour bus company has excursions so no driving and parking, tickets and meal included. I'm invited to come but told them no - I cannot sit that long! Sitting on a bus, sitting at a game.... too antsy (thinking of you, Lisa ) and my tushie and back seem to get sore so quickly. I too used to stand at meetings or have an excuse to move around a lot.
Time for another cup of Decaf. Make it a great day

Good morning! Happy Wednesday!
Kate UK- Happy Anniversary! 54 years! Wow!
Machka- You have beautiful long hair. I used to wear my long, but about 15 years ago cut it about shoulder length and now keep it between chin and shoulder length. My hubby misses the long hair. lol I, too, when I color have to use a more vibrant shade if I want the color to show, because my hair is dark.
Renee- Welcome! We have ladies from all over the world on this thread. We, non-metric users, have learned to use the conversion charts so we can understand they system! lol Please don't wait until July to join us! Jump in whenever you feel the urge, remember to bookmark the thread and on the last day of the month, Barbie will post the link to take us into July!
Lanette and Rebecca- Coffee is my magic potion! It seems to fix a great many ailments! Sometimes, all I need is to wrap my hands around a warm cup and breathe the aroma...mmmmmm
Rebecca- The kids will be fine. They will find the rhythm that works for them. I couldn't cook at all when I married, but I learned. I wish, FERVENTLY wish, my husband cooked. That is a chore I would gladly share. AND it is obvious that they are affectionate toward eachother (you have Athena), they just may not be comfortable displaying it in front of others or in front of parents.
Here are some photos of two of our science experiments. The first two photos are of the egg shell geodes. We used borax to make them, though I have seen recipes that use alum, salt, sugar. If you want to try them, look on youtube for egg shell geodes using borax and quite a few videos will pop up. The other is called Unicorn Toothpaste. It is a mixture of 6% strength hydrogen peroxide (a hair developer strength), food color, and yeast dissolved in water. Use glass jars as the mixture will get pretty hot; but what foams out of the jars is cool (temperature wise) and COOL . Just don't let the kids touch the jars or spill them. Only the four year olds did this project.
Kids arriving! Pancakes today! I better fly! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

Decades ago there was a brief push for the US to use metric measurements, so teachers in my district got some training to help us prepare for the change. What I remember from the training was that living with the system was better than just using conversion charts. I started then to set my household thermometers to C rather than F. It annoys Jake to see the temperature and not know what it means. I can't convert in my head but I know that when it's 12 degrees in the morning, I need to add an extra layer to what I'm wearing and by the time it gets to to 21 degrees I won't need a jacket.
Kate, congrats on your anniversary.
I was awakened early by Sasha but I didn't get dressed and out fast enough to prevent Bessie from throwing up on the carpet. Now that we've walked and eaten breakfast, I have a few extra minutes before I meet my friend who walks with the dogs and me.

Allie prayers for your friend's SIL. Prayers for friend's daughter too. Hope she has others to help take care of her too.
DH nephew went through crisis when his daughter was born. She was a premature and the mom had complications too so baby was sent to another hospital than mom. I sent a card with money since we lived so far away because gifts unless they can immediately be used or requests for info takes energy from the person in crisis. Money can be used for an immediate need...parking , fast food, or a quick trip to vending machine.
Having just been through a crisis I think what was most helpful to me was just having someone recognize that I was in pain too. Just a simple how are you doing through this?
The opposite has happened to me too. I had a good friend who I have listened to many of her tales and she has listened to mine in the past. When I told her our DS son was in the hospital she didn't skip a beat and kept talking about her problems. When I told her he almost died she looked at me and said I figured that and continued to speak of her problems. I do remember her being supportive at others times, but this reaction really hurt. At one point I did say I am having trouble following you because I am in Trauma Brain yet she continued to speak of her problems. My chest hurt when I left her.
In this case it wasn't that I didn't want her not to share her problems I just felt my problems were dismissed and that is what hurt. Did I say this to her NOOO. This is something I want to work on to speak up for myself when I my feelings are not being taken into account. I want to do it in an assertive way because otherwise it festers or I take it in internally. I do not find it a coincidence that evening I binged ate. It has been years since I have done that. I only did it that one night but I do think it was related to how I felt from the morning conversation with my friend.
The lesson I learned is when someone is in trauma it is time just to be there for them. If it is better to put my own problems on hold so be it. Just letting them be in their own terms is a gift.
I am also practicing saying "I no longer sweat the small stuff because I know the difference between the big and small stuff."
The reason for practicing that line is a another story for another day!

In the UK we seem to live with both metric and imperial. Beer is in pints. Petrol is in litres. Heights, weights come in both, though us older folk are attached to our stones. Cookbooks are usually written in both. Weather is in Celsius but they always translate it to Fahrenheit. I think in the old system, but I can easily translate the new, apart from measurements for clothes.
Just back from my run. Hard going. We were worked really hard last night at the Shim Sham lesson!!! Phew! Still, I got out there for 5k.
The thunderstorms last night were spectacular, but just missed us. I could see them flashing away in the east almost continuously. Could just hear them.

One of the interesting things that has happened since my husband had the accident that resulted in a severe brain injury is that people are asking me, "How are you doing?"
My first response is to tell them how my husband is doing.
But I've had many of them stop me and repeat the question, "How are YOU doing?
For some reason it throws me off.
How am I doing?
I don't know.
I actually try not to think about it.
I am awake 17.5 hours a day and I'm going, doing, going, doing, going, doing all day long. Then I drop into a deep 6.5 hours of sleep. And I suspect part of the reason I'm doing that is so that I don't think about how I'm doing.
I feel like if I let go, relax, stop everything will unravel around me.
I feel like if I let myself think I will have to deal with the fact that my entire life has been turned upside down. All the hopes and plans and dreams are gone. It's just one day at a time without knowing what tomorrow will be like or next week or next month or next year.
But if I keep going, doing, going, doing, going, doing ... maybe I'll be able to keep myself together for a while. It gives me a little bit of control over something.
I guess that's how I'm doing.
But you're right Margaret, it actually does help a little bit when people ask.
How are you doing, Margaret?

Macha- Same here was born taking care of I’ll Mom the minute I could figure out how. Classes on how to take care of her from the state when I couldn’t even tie my shoes. Then Dads injuries making his medical license useless only could preach y do pastoral counseling/ jobs that were repetitive with understanding bosses until he couldn’t do anything but once a year or two fill in for other preachers free so they can get medical care. I also got confused when asked how I was doing- CAREGIVER mode Dad called it. Caregiver lifespans can be lessened too from lack of care for themselves so take help when it’s offered just like a new mom it’s taxing on the mind cause sleep your not doing anything but worrying.Just do your best to take a moment for yourself even if it’s resting in a dark corner at physical therapy just tell them you need it the good ones understand.

I'm so pleased as I am back down to my lowest post bariatric surgery weight for a total 125# weight loss. I've decided to go for an additional 10 pounds which would take me to the lowest I've reached in my adult life. I stayed at that lowest weight for about five minutes I think.
We have two more grandsons getting married, one in July and one in December. Hard to keep up with, but I love our large family.
Michele, no the pecan tree is not ours, the orchard is between our house and the neighbors house. The neighbors have 11 acres. Floyd is in his late 70's and Jack helps with maintenance of property and equipment and also the llamas. Floyd and Jack have been best friends for over 40 years.
Love you my friends.

Rita: I suspect that your Friends of the Park page on facebook could keep you very busy. I hope you enjoy it.
Connie: Thank you for clarifying your location. Churchill Downs is an amazing place. Perhaps I’ll get to see it in person on race day someday. Our travel plans to go that far this year. We’ve been taking about going to Illinois to see our daughter toward the end of the summer. It will depend on DH’s health. He’s not doing very well at the moment. I hope the PT helps enough for him to be able to travel. He’s had one appointment and it was good, but it will likely take many appointments to make real progress. :flowerforyou:
Dr. Katie: My gym is also in the next town over. It is a friendly place and I enjoy it.
Michelle: My sister in law and brother in law have Silver Sneakers and enjoy the benefits. They have been going to the gym for several years and it has helped them both. We have Silver and Fit through my retirement system and works well with our local gym. My stevia is in a dropper bottle and I dribble in the number of drops that I want. It works well for me. I didn’t like the powdered version of stevia at all, although it can be taken on commercial airlines, & I take the packets with me if I fly. I don’t use an entire packet in one cup of coffee—WAY too sweet. :noway:
Lisa: I hope the day goes well and you have a safe trip home.
Allie: Sending prayers for your friend’s son.
Heather: Happy Great Aunthood! I’m glad to hear that mother and baby are doing well. :flowerforyou:
Renee from the Netherlands: Welcome!!!
Margaret: I love your practice of being there for a friend in trauma. Not sweating the small stuff is wise.
DH’s physical therapy appointment went very well. The therapist was highly skilled. She was in our local office filling in for someone. It would be great if she was there for every appointment.
I went to a county parks meeting yesterday and enjoyed the experience. I was there with my horse friends, but the meeting was about a proposed development in a riverside county park. Many things looked good, but they were planning on putting a boat ramp & docks too close to the centerline of the Columbia River. Many ocean going ships go right past there, too close to their proposed boat launch and docks. I spoke up about it.

Going to use my steamer try to make bacon wrapped tilapia this should cook out a lot of oils y fats but flavor the fish will see. IBS / colitis so grease is a foe! Doctors always recommend I cook more with water even when baking to help drain off stuff.
Amber Tx
Let’s see how this goes should be 18min to cook bacon 🥓 y 22min tilapia so going 22min let’s see the end results at dinner time.2 -

Katla - I am now a Great Great Aunt. I managed to get a card in the post this afternoon. My family has a LOT of young children, including two very late arrivals for my niece, so I think she will have enough second hand equipment and clothes. She is also living with her lovely, caring parents in a small house. It was not a planned baby and no one, except her, likes the boyfriend. My extended family is HUGE! My lovely brother has a lot on his plate with six children, some procreating, (ten grandchildren), and this the first one of the further generation.
I must say I'm glad I don't have to contend with all that, other than dipping in as and when I feel like it. It's a full time job. His youngest child is 17. My three grandchildren are quite enough for me!

I can use US measure or metric, but I'm a bit more comfortable with metric. All hospital labs use metrics in the US. Everything is measured in milliliters or microliters (I have mechanical pipettes that can measure that small) and temperatures are in Celcius. I have to admit I get confused when I see a refrigerator with a Fahrenheit thermometer and go into a brief panic. The only time I use US measure is when I cook or weigh myself, but it wouldn't bother me if the scale was in kilograms
Going to be hot, steamy and rainy in KY again.

Next weekend there is Swing dancing at the bandstand in the early evening. The weekend after that you can go up the i360 pod for free into the sky to dance at the top. It's early in the morning, with follow on dancing at the bottom afterwards.
I think we will just go to the later, down to earth, one, but here is a pic of the people in the pod last year doing the Shim Sham. I think I would be the bewildered one biting her cheek.!!!!
Anyone who is curious, you can see the Shim Sham on YouTube. We spent an exhausting hour going over and over it last night. They play it at every social Swing dance session, which is mainly Lindyhop. I like the Lindyfest 2016 Shim Sham the best.

Thank you for asking.
I am giving myself permission to allow myself to feel and react what works for me. If something does not feel right like the friend's response I let myself process and am trying to come up with responses that help me through...like I have learned not to sweat the small stuff... that works for you it does not work for me... I am in Trauma Brain... . If I have a melt down I no longer beat myself up. I know it is my body and soul saying time for a time out. Time to take a walk around the garden or a walk by myself. I do not dismiss my feelings. My feelings are a messenger.
My therapist pointed out to me my friend's response, I got it that he almost died, was similar how my mother responded to my problems when I was growing up. I binge ate in high school. It makes even more sense to me now why I binge ate the day I spoke with her.
When I related the story the therapist actually said OUCH! I know I did speak up for myself by saying in was in Trauma Brain, but for whatever reason my friend did not hear me. Still learning I have no control over someone's response. I just need to decide for myself where that puts me with this friend.
M I do understand the need to keep the need to keep moving and control what you can because you have been dealt a blow you have no control over. (((M)))
It does sound like your DH has made good progress. He was in good physical shape when this happened and that makes a positive difference for him. Perhaps that is why I am such a health nut I want to be as best prepared if and when I have to go through a tough time. I know being in the shape I was in when this happened with son helps me.
I find myself aware of my energy level and try to put errands all together. What needs to be done today and what can wait. When one more thing is added for me to do. I go through the same process put it on immediate list or the list that can wait.
I think all the years of teaching helps me with this too. You have to prioritize in teaching all the time and use your energy wisely.
And I LOVE LOVE LOVE post-it-notes.!I especially love it when I complete what is on one and I can throw it away!!!

Hi, I'm new to the forum--as a woman of a certain age (52), I'm glad to have found my "tribe!" I'm struggling to lose the same 10 pounds right now (thank you, Menopause Fairy) and having this app to check in each day seems to help me stay on track. Kim – that princess cake, I looked online and saw about 2 different types of princess cakes. Are you talking about the one that looks like a doll? If so, I have a special cake mold that I use for making one like that. Here’s the one I made for Denise’s shower:

Heather – very big congrats
JR – since you can’t have much oil/grease, have you ever investigated an air fryer? They use VERY LITTLE oil

hi everyone - it's been a busy week. Ashley (my 16-yr old cat) made it through his dental surgery and now has 4 less teeth. He was pretty painful for the first 5 days but had a morphine derivative to help him through. And then *I* got to go to the dentist today for the first time in 5 years (and that was for an emergency visit). I haven't actually had a regular dental appointment in 10 years. I have a lot of anxiety at dentists and doctors in general. Anyhow, I have 3 serious cavities and one smaller one. The dentist is going to be doing "mild sedation" with me when she does the work; so we'll see how that goes. I have a few weeks to go before it will happen.
My partner sprained his ankle (again) and had to go to the doctor. He has a neurological disorder (called Charcot Marie Tooth) where he has numbness in his feet and lower legs... so he often mis-steps.. and each one has to be x-rayed because of his numbness (he can't feel all the pain, which is both good and bad!). So we had to take him to get x-rays and all that as well. He's back at the physiotherapist starting next week and is not looking forward to it. He was in for his knee (he fell when walking dogs at the shelter) just not too many months back.
And I had another visit to the eye doctor/surgeon. The pressure in my eyes is up again. So the surgery didn't help, and the medication I'm using isn't working either. So now a brand new eye drop and a 6-week wait to see if it is working or not.
I'm tired of doctors! But it doesn't end. I have to see my GP soon, and also my GYN. But I'll wait another 2 weeks before making those appointments.
Food is still off, but doing a little better... and exercise is going really well YIPPEE!! I wish I could get back to Tai Chi classes (I went for about 12 weeks last year), but something always seems to happen each week where I can't get to class. But at least I am working out at home and feeling accomplished about that! I've never really been able to motivate myself like this before and I truly hope it continues to last.
I shall leave with you with a picture of Trolley after experiencing a pillow avalanche during his nap.

Michele love love love the princess cakes.
When I went to my voice lesson they were having a funeral. So sad. He was 33 going to work and hit from by a semi when traffic was stalled. He left behind a widow and two small children under 5. Yes that is the big stuff.
