I came back to write some more. Now y’all have moved on to another yucky food - split pea soup!
I had some Amazon credits built up so I ordered the Gretchen Rubin decluttering book to add to my collection. I need some new inspiration. Thanks, @barbiecat, for the recommendation.
Hugs to Carol. I’m so sorry about your dog.
I think my Silver Sneakers card will let me visit a gym while on vacation, but I don’t think it will let me visit multiple ones on a regular basis. I’m not really sure since that’s not something I’d be inclined to do anyway.
I love the leopard print shoes and new outfit. Is it Suzi? I can’t remember the name for sure, but you look fantastic!

Katie - I love you even if you dislike 2 of my favorites black licorice and spilt pea soup - but of course NOT together.
LOL Kim7 -
Today I learned that skipping the gym while sick might make me forget my lock combination. Scary feeling- my purse was in there. They were about to cut the lock off but I had one last idea to try and it worked. An adventure!

Languages ... I've attended classes at uni and community classes. I've also used Duolingo.
Over the years I've "learned" ...
Greek (Koine)
Latin
French
German
Spanish
I put the word "learned" in quotes because although I've taken classes for all these, and have learned them well enough to pass exams and speak in classes, I've also forgotten a lot.
Aside from English, the language I know the best is French ... I've had a lot of classes in that!! Right now, however, I'd say my French is a bit weak, but when I've spent time in France, it improves fairly quickly.
I would like to learn some Mandarin and Hindi next, I think.
But a dream of mine is to go to the Carel Language School in Royan and take an intensive course in French. I love the Royan area and would love to spend several months there cycling, enjoying the ocean, and learning French.
Again ... she goes and checks those lotto tickets!!

Kim: Yes to black licorice. I think I feel a craving coming on....😋 Glad your mom is doing better.
Katla: Hurraah for hospital valet parking. Hope results of bone scan are excellent.
Rebecca: You've done a beautiful job raising your sons, and I love the letter you sent your youngest.
Allie: I'm holding onto the vision of you getting offered your dream job, then making a quick and satisfying exit from the evil Dr. Taskmaster.
Love the baby pix! Thank you to all the grandmothers for sharing your precious little ones. Please keep them coming.
Yesterday I had my monthly appointment with the VA dementia social worker. She is such a fountain of great information and support, and I can't believe how lucky I am to have this benefit. I shared my word for 2020 with her, NOW, and we have adopted that mindset for the next steps to take with regard to DH's care. I will be visiting a couple of Vet Clubs (adult day care) and use my best judgement for which make most sense for him. Then, hope to get him to visit for lunch and perhaps afternoon activities. Baby steps, and no expectations for anything to go perfectly because we just never know with this condition. Concurrent to that, I'll be connected to another social worker who specializes in coaching relatives in petitioning the court for guardianship. I don't need it right away, but want to get the ball rolling.
My brother needs prayers for his mental and emotional state. He has been left hanging by a prospective employer that interviewed him three times before Christmas, then made all kinds of references to him joining them, but has yet to make a firm offer. He is feeling shaky and vulnerable, and that sets off a downward spiral of anxiety and suicidal thoughts. So much of his self-esteem is tied to working hard in his chosen area of IT construction project management.
I've had some down days myself, too. This is my birthday/anniversary month, and I'd normally be planning something...ANYthing. But these days I just can't get away for more than an hour at a time. I'm itchy to take a trip, but have to tamp down that urge for now. The weather this week has been beautiful. Will sit back and enjoy sunshine on the deck with DH and Mars the Leash Loving Cat and imagine we are actually on Maui. 🤗
Stay well friends. We can do this, together!

Rebecca, it's more than her chubby little fingers that are cute, she is just such a little sweetie.
Annie, funny I was just thinking as I was opening MFP that I forgot to say garlic in the pea soup, then I read your post! lol
I did! I went to the gym this afternoon! It was much nicer going this afternoon after work instead of before work, didn't have to rush anywhere. Alas, Thursday and Friday I work til 6 and that's just too late for me so I shall suck it up and get up early those days and "git 'er done". I do prefer going in the morning, just so that it is done, I can come up with WAY too many excuses to not go later in the day! Today I had my gym clothes with me, changed at work, so it cut down dramatically on the excuses, lol.
Pip, I won't expect lengthy posts from you, but it was lovely to see that nice chatty one. Thank you for sharing.
Loving the photos of the babies, both furry and human.
That's it for me. Hope everyone has/had a great day!

Karen in NY - I don’t keep an idea notebook but I have different idea notes in my phone.
Rori - hugs to you. You are handling all of this with so much grace.
Very cold and snowy today. The Grands aren’t making their usual Wednesday night visit as the roads aren’t safe to travel on.
I’m going to take advantage and have a nice long hot bath.
Not much to say

Did Denise Austin’s Ultimate Fat Burner DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Patrick Godeau’s Lean Hot Body DVD.
Katla – the thing that bothers me most about the Silver & Fit is that I feel I was lied to when I was told that I could go to any gym. To me, any gym means any gym, not any gym that is in the same group that you signed up for (like 24Hr Fitness). You can go to any 24Hr Fitness but no other gym. I’m thinking that they didn’t tell me because they wanted me to sign up with them and they knew that if they’d told me that I can only use one gym, then I wouldn’t have signed with them. And they were right.
Went to the dentist. I have a chipped tooth. I never knew it since it isn’t giving my any trouble. I have an appt in March to get a crown. There is another old crown (probably 15-20 years old) and between that crown and the next tooth there is some decay. When he puts on the permanent crown he’ll clean that out hoping to save the crown.
Worked on taking more of the outside decorations down. We think we may finish tomorrow. But first, I have the Green Room. Didn’t go to ceramics tonight but continued to take in decorations. Vince hurt his back some. It hurt if he was bending over when he went to stand up. So I would try to bend for him. On the positive…a bit of an ab workout for me.
Yvonne TX – have fun at the beach!
Drkatie – can’t associate with us…..YOUR LOSS….lol
Rori – when is your birthday?
For some reason, I am really tired. But tired or not, I still had to go to Aldi’s.

Michelle - I would take any gym to mean I could go to any 1 gym I wanted, not every gym I wanted to. I understood it to mean that it basically paid your membership at a gym for the year. Before you decide to change plans at renewal, you might check around to be sure that the other plans do allow you to go to as many different gyms (companies) as you want all at the same time. Might save you some aggravation down the line.
I hope you find a plan for next year that lets you go to as many gyms as you want!

Still trying to figure out how to get here most days. I did go kickboxing today and burned 294 calories. It was awesome! Sorry I can't be more chatty tonight! Stay well! Meg from Omaha5

Love split pea soup but haven't had in forever! Husband doesn't like it, but will eat bean soup----
Black licorice- Count me out. I will give my share to those that like it.
I was active and busy lots today, but never managed to exercise-smh. Massage tonight was nice.
Tomorrow is a "sitting" day. 3 hour round trip to sit in a training class. Hoping I can stay awake after lunch. Last year the speaker was soooooooo monotone and boring that I fell asleep. My friend nudged my knee several times when I dozed off. Oops. After that I get my hair done! YaY!
Healing thoughts to all fighting the crud going around.
Prayers for the unspoken or spoken needs.
Hugs because I like them. They make me feel good.
Smiles because we make the best choices we can at the moment.
Love for all the support we receive and give to each other.

Don't know what had me feeling so bad yesterday, but after a good night's sleep felt so much better. The respiratory tea I took helped. Got more stuffed up as day went on. Drank a large mug of while at ladies group tonight and breathing just fine. Perhaps the benadryl I took the night before last didn't agree with my system overall. Or maybe it is just a cold that is going to tease awhile before it hits. Not going to worry too much. Got walk in at lunch today and workout at gym.
And, most importantly, I could fit some black licorice into my calories tonight. Been a few weeks since I had any. I cannot, however, join the split pea soup group.
Have a good rest of today,
Ginny in Ohio-and it is cold!4 -
For the first time in ages (maybe a year??) I got myself together, brought my running gear to work, and went for a run at lunch!!
I ran 2.25 km ... plus walks before and after totalling 3.55 km ... for a grand total of 5.8 km covered at lunch today. Yay!! I enjoyed it and will have to do that again next week.
Black licorice = meh. Sometimes it's OK. Sometimes I prefer not.
Split pea soup = if it is thick, yes! If it is thin and watery, no. When we have it for dinner, we usually have it from a can or bag, then add lots of frozen veggies, heat, and serve with toast or over brown rice.
Machka in Oz4 -
Yum for split pea soup! Even better is dried green pea soup. Sometimes I buy a ham hock from our butcher and make it, but not often, as I can't resist it and it is not low in calories. Also not good for noxious wind.
We had a decent time at French Circle. It was a party, but it was also bilingual, so most people spoke English. I insisted on speaking French so cornered a man and his wife who have a second home in France. His French wasn't very good, but we soldiered on regardless. It reminded me that fir most of my life I wanted a house in France and DH and I were actively looking when we first met. Now I'm so glad we didn't go ahead with it. Interesting how life can take you in different directions.
The food was good with an Antilles theme. I drank too much and we won a bottle of spiced rum in the raffle! We actually won another prize as well, but we didn't take it as it felt greedy.
I was very tired before we set off and thought I was coming down with something. I'm ok though, I think!
Love to Rori.

I like split pea soup, but not all split pea soup is wonderful. Made in the IP it's delicious. Out of a can isn't quite as yummy, although Progresso is OK. I haven't tried any frozen varieties.
Concerning salted licorice, I believe that is an acquired taste - like Vegemite.
No to both.

Yesterday my 13-year-old grandson fainted at therapy & hit the back of his head on a thinly carpeted concrete floor. He saw his pediatrician & had a normal CT. He has a concussion & a huge hematoma across his occiput. He doesn't remember being wobbly before he fainted, but recently he has been a big staggerish when he stands up after sitting. I think it's because he is growing so tall so fast that his cardiovascular system hasn't yet figured out where his head ends up when he stands. He said when he woke up he thought he was at home in his bed & he was confused about where he was for a few seconds. Then he started to cry.
My daughter-in-law should have had a melt-down yesterday but she did, in fact, not. Suffice it to say she had an impossible day ahead of her with my son out-of-town for work & then the concussion happened.
Yesterday I dropped off & picked up 3 of the foster kitties at the spay & neuter clinic. They were romping about as soon as they arrived home. A little hissier than usual.
>>>
Josephine the Ballerina update. Good news. The spinal tumor has shrunk by 75%. Josie still has 7 weeks of chemo & radiation left, but we are all celebrating the news that she is responding to treatment! It's been a rough go for a young active girl.

Athena is so adorable.

Hugs and support to all who need them. Thanks for being here each day.

My streak of no media consumption after work is now 3 days! (dancing emojis here) But, I'm suffering from a bout of insomnia, and I think it's because I use the media to fall asleep and now it is turned off. In addition to this new habit, I have also walked past the chocolates everyone seems to be dumping in staff rooms for others to eat (I can't be too angry, I donated chocolates the same way ) I will often pause and then just say to myself, oh look, there's the chocolate (or whatever snack) I'm not hungry, I know it looks nice, but I'm not hungry, keep walking. Sometimes I will say out loud to no one in particular, "please note that I am choosing not to eat the chocolate!!!"
Teaching after a 2 week hiatus has it's pluses and minuses, the kids are rested but chatty. I feel so out of it, I have to rethink (be mindful) what I'm doing instead of being on autopilot. Being a mindful teacher is a very deeply engrossing activity, sometimes the communication is quite rewarding. I have a particularly active young student who is an irish dancer, we make lots of practice and technical connections together but my favorite thing about this lovely young lady is, she just can't keep her enthusiasm under wraps, she breaks into dance whenever standing, sometimes even sitting her feet are tapping in happiness, kind of a like a wagging puppy, I mean this in the nicest way. She is my battery recharger---I'm looking for those a lot these days and you know when you go looking for something--you often find it where you least expect it!

@KetoneKaren That is so scary about grandson! However what you said about growth is probably right on. My brother was either 13 or 14 when the same thing happened to him at school. I was petrified! Our parents didn't get to hospital for about two hours......😧😢 It never occurred again. He was standing talking with friends. Hugs! Good news on Josephine the ballerina!

Karen - Scary about your grandson. That blood pressure thing again, I bet. I seem to know so many people who have fainted recently! Including my DDIL. Does he drink enough liquids? Kids can forget about that.

Hello one and all.
The event/day kicked my you know what. With the day starting at 4am and me getting home at almost 10pm on Tuesday (all work, no play) I was a little out of sorts yesterday. And, I just love those solid concrete floors that seem to be in every convention hall. Not to mention one of my teammates with a size 14 shoe stepping on the arch of my foot just as we entered the event hall made for a fun evening. Since my injury happened at the start of the event there was no time to ice my foot so I have a very nice bruise in the shape of a man’s shoe heel on the top of my foot. I think if he would have stepped on my toes he would have broken them. Therefore, I am glad the top of my left foot is purple and will then turn in to lovely shades of green and yellow. LOL!
Allie, Carol, Debby, Katla, Heather, Michele, Machka, Tracey, Katla, Rebecca, Kim, Dr. Katie, et al – Thank you all for the compliments. It’s very encouraging to be supported by such a great group of women and makes me determined to hit goal.
Okie – I knew you would love the shoes. I found a purse that was an exact match when I bought the pants. I just could not justify the price since the purse was not exactly a fit for me.
Heather – Isn’t it amazing how one person can change the perceptions and lives of people. I will have to check out Gareth Malone.
Kylia – With me being a numbers nerd I just love spreadsheets for everything! My work team thinks I am nuts until they need to track down something from a year or two ago.
Michele – To hit my initial goal I have almost 10 more pounds to go. Once I get there I will see how I look and feel and may decide to drop an additional 5. I am still carrying around a lot of fat. I am starting to work upon muscle definition. I am keeping the weights light until I hit goal and then will start bulking up a little more. I am not sure about deer repellent I think fences are the only things that truly keep them out. But maybe if you put some salt licks out far enough away from your greenery they may or may not leave the vegetation alone.
Machka – White/cream is not a go to color for me, but when I do buy anything white I make sure it’s machine washable. I also carry around a stain remover wipe in my purse so I am prepared – lol.
Tracey – It’s great Rodger is getting on track. I think it’s easier when all household members are on the same lifestyle page. I laughed out loud with your GD’s choice of words – she is a girl after my own heart and sounds like a firecracker. And, a very wise decision by your daughter. It probably was a great distraction for your GD trying to come up with the worst word she could say.
Sharon – Looking forward to hearing about your trip.
Rebecca – I used to wear my hair very long down to my elbows. I found the long hair process takes up too much time. I really love being able to wash and go with no fuss. And, every time I attempt to grow my hair out because I want to be able to wear it up I can never get it past my shoulders. And, I say to myself, hm, you’re growing it out to wear it up? I end up going super short again. I know this sounds crazy but I am thinking I may shave my head on my first official day of retirement. Not only as a liberating symbol of freedom, but I am also interested in seeing how I may look with no hair. Crazy, I know. Athena is adorable. Such concentration!
Tina – We have been in the low 50s here in SFL and it’s too cold for me too! I awakened to find it to be 70 this morning which is much more comfortable for me.
Yvonne – Glad to hear you and DH are on the mend. The garage sounds like a big project. Be sure to take before and after pictures.
Katla – Would love to see a pic of your new “do”.
Annie – Can you change the combination on your lock? I typically use my BD or last 4 digits of my phone number. For me it’s just easier especially for my luggage locks which do not get used frequently.
Rori – I am so happy you have found a great advocate for the VA benefits for DH. Prayers for DB. Does he attend AA? It sounds like counseling or fellowship is something that would do him good.
Karen - Sorry to hear about your GS. If he is going through a lot of growth spurts he may need to be eating more bananas to keep his potassium levels up. Oh, I remember those leg pains! I think they get us ready for the not so young pains.
Black Licorice and Split Pea Soup – Love both!
It’s off to the races for me. Must get ready for work. I am so happy there are only two more days as I am looking forward to getting meal planning back on track this weekend.
SuziQ – SFL
A quick pic of the entry way to Tuesday’s event. At sign in we were prompted to make survival kits for the homeless (a bag of toiletries, socks, and a note) and to write a note to a service person. I do love working for a company that promotes giving back to the community.
