I used to like licorice as a kid but I can definitely leave it for others now.
There's this place that serves a split pea soup, not very thick, with cumin, for 5 euros and it's delicious. Well, I don't know if the peas are split (they call it pea soup here, not split pea soup).

Barbara - I used to be a soprano when I was younger, but my voice has deepened. I have never sung in a choir and this one is very informal, so we just get on with it. Not much tuition. I prefer to start off a bit lower if I can manage it. I love those pieces, but fitting the words to the notes is the biggest challenge!
Food delivery today. I always get all the boring stuff like kitchen towel, loo roll etc but there are a few treats in there. Duck legs tonight.
Split pea soup for lunch!
DH is off to the osteopath this morning - AT LAST!

Morning, afternoon and evening all,
Going to see my new primary doctor this morning at 7:15 (the only thing I DO like about the VA so far is they start early) and we'll see how all that goes. I've got about five things to sort out with him, and hopefully there will be some answers or at least pathways to try to get them sorted out.
Heather - glad you got your DH off to the osteopath. Fingers crossed something good comes of his appointment, as well.
Pip - sorry about the ice fall, glad your helmet saved your noggin.
Tracey in Edmonton - thanks for the sympathy on the grant. You can't win 'em all, and when you're competing against the entire world for one grant, your odds are pretty low. Grant work has been very good for my allergy to rejection, because you have to get over that one in a big, BIG hurry. Ah well. This is the news I sent to my team:I have to admit, I kinda went all Cary Elwes at first, but then I got over it… so, I’m pulling on my Robin Hood tights, jerkin and feathered hat (all in Girl Scout green you might notice), and going out to find the rich organizations who are willing to give to the poor.
I am, however, leaving the bow and arrows behind, because the rich get all weird about giving money to folks with weapons. 😃
Regards,
Edit to add - I forgot to say that I've quit eating dinner. Not eating breakfast just wasn't an option, but I haven't had dinner all week, and I've lost three pounds. So... intermittent fasting, but backwards. Weird, but it's working, and who am I to argue at this point?
Later,

My pea and ham soup.
You can see that there is rather a lot of it.
I've had a portion for lunch and DH will have some when he gets back. I will freeze the rest. There was so much ham hock that I kept some back to make a pasta dish tomorrow.
Much love to all, Heather UK XXXXXX5 -
Good Friday to everyone!
It is raining in Ohio and spring like temperatures........
My husband doesn't know if he likes split pea soup or not.....going on my to try list for him. As for eating things not liked, he will do it because he was taught to clear his plate, but......he will say to me "let's not have that again"-LOL!
Hair loss- My oldest daughter has been loosing her hair on her crown since she was about 20. It really hasn't been a concern of hers for some reason. My hair stylist noticed mine was getting really thin so started me on a shampoo and conditioner called Zenegan. I started my oldest daughter with some also as well as my husband. Not sure on results for my daughter as it has only been a month or so. For husband, he is slowly thickening up the hair. I have been using for 3 years. My hair is thicker (will never be thick) and continuing to fill in the really thin spots. I may just have to try the rosemary also. Just because! I still have my hair colored every 5-6 weeks. Will need to post a new picture. I have tried Biotin but things got worse. Something about my body and manufactured vitamins.....when I take iron pills I actually get anemic. When I take calcium or biotin, my nails break more and my hair falls out worse. I am weird! Just means I really need to eat better!
The sunrise was beautiful on my way to training yesterday! I even stayed awake and learned a couple of things!
My youngest daughter will be coming home from Detroit today. Prayers for safe travels! She is not made for a traveling job.
Prayers and/or warm thoughts needed for a friend's daughter. They are unspoken needs, but the request was sent out.
Better get ready for work. Paid some bills this morning, fed Sara, made bed......It is Friday!!!
Love you ladies for all your stories and support! What a wonderful group!
Lisa I hope you get answers this morning from DR. Love your message to your team!
Pip I am also happy that you wear a helmet! Hope the hip heals quickly.
Machka I get migraines with weather fronts. I feel your pain! I have not had one in about a month so feeling blessed after about 3 months solid of them.

I remember as a kid looking at my dad's head and wondering why it was shaped like a box, lol. Little did I know!
Lanette! This had coffee spraying out of my nose! lol Thanks for the early morning laugh!
Good morning all! Happy Friday! I am doing a vigorous Friday Dance knowing that I have two days coming up where there will be no children to herd into the bathroom; I can let down my guard, put down the paper towels and Clorox clean-up, and relax without the worry of someone having an "accident" on my floor or furniture! Whew! I just hope the parents keep up the routine of potty training at home over the weekend. We are at a point where the girls are catching the sensation (most of the time) and running to the bathroom on their own. But they still need help or reminding if they are busy or engrossed in an activity and sometimes parents feel it is too much work.
Heather- your singing class sounds like so much fun!
Lisa- hmmmm, your exhaustion is a symptom of something wrong! I hope you find out soon what is causing it. Hard to feel on top of things when you are always tired. I love your email to your coworkers in regards to the grant denial. lol
Pip- Ugh! Doing any activity outside in the winter is dicey! I am so glad you wear a helmet! I hope your body feels better after a nice long soak in a tub! Hugs!
KarenVA- Ask and you shall receive! Miguel's first day at daycare, and the other photo is showing him doing his new favorite thing-sleeping. He has slept a full 8-8 1/2 hours each night this week (since starting daycare)! Joaquin showing off his "space" where his tooth got pulled; and then Joaquin doing one of his favorite things (playing in the bath).
You know me; not putting babies in the spoiler. Plus, if their pics are here in full view, it is one more time I get to look at them. lol
Kids arriving, have to scoot! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Lisa - I stopped eating dinner about 4 months ago (with some exceptions) and lost 8 pounds. It's really been the only way I've been able to lose weight and keep it off. However, I'm tired of it. I want to start eating dinner again, which means I'll have to have a shift in mindset about my current shape/weight. I'd like to be down another 3 pounds, but not eating dinner (when cooking is my hobby) is really not fun anymore.4

sh0ttz have you tried one meal a day OMAD? That is what really works for me. I try not to eat much before supper when everyone usually wants to eat. If I get hungry I’ll have a little healthy snack during the day then I eat supper and maybe a snack later. I always stay within calories that way and I really am not restricted because if I’m hungry I’ll have a snack. Good luck!

I am now a natural brunette again
I think I will run to town for a few things before our expected storms roll in. We need rain, and I love a good thunderstorm, so hopefully it will materialize with rain and no damage for anyone.
Happy Friday Ladies!

Lanette: I envy your flakes of snow. So far, we haven’t had snow on the ground this winter. We haven’t had more than a few days of frosty weather, either. I don’t mind having no real ice to worry about but I am beginning to worry about global warming. :ohwell:
Sue: Your Christmas Cactus is glorious. Mine were so-so this year. I suspect I didn’t water them enough.
Kim: I love your gardening stories, and your having already started seeds is putting a smile on my face.
Pip: I am happy to hear you’re diligent about riding your bike with a good helmet. Protecting the brain is a huge priority.
Yoga today!!! YAYYY! I’ve got some time before class starts at 10.

I'd like to be down another 3 pounds, but not eating dinner (when cooking is my hobby) is really not fun anymore.
Not eating dinner won't worry me in the least, but I'm not the cook in the house, my husband is... and he is determined to try to feed me! I've got him convinced that I'll take one bite of whatever he's cooked, and I make much of it, and he's happier, and I'm happy, as the scale's going down.
The doctor's visit was good, much better than I expected. A young-ish man, who gave me the benefit of not using the little words on me, and helped me understand a couple things. Read at your own risk.Good parts - he's giving me a year's prescription for the low-dose antibiotic that prevents urinary tract infections for me. I understand the objections, and still, for me, it's the best possible thing for any number of reasons.
He's also keeping me on my NSAIDS (Aleve, or naproxen) which is a huge relief, as it works for me, I've taken it for ten years, and protect my stomach with famotidine (Pepcid) with every dose, so have no liver, kidney or (to date, and fingers crossed) stomach issues. If I don't take an anti-inflammatory, my joints hurt so badly that I simply stop moving. And I do NOT want to move to any opioids to do so.
However, according to the doc, the naproxen is NOT the culprit of the Crohns-type symptoms, which all have to do with a rectal fissure that is taking months to heal. It's... painful, embarrassing, and causes a steady loss of blood, thus the anemia diagnosis earlier in the year. But, according to the doc, while it is a blood thinner, it does not delay healing, and in fact promotes it, so it's not the reason.
Re: The anemia, I was diagnosed with an iron deficiency in May. I have (or had) a lack of iron in storage (ferritin). He sent me back down to the lab to get that tested before I left, and I'll get a message about whether they're going to keep me on iron or not. Should be interesting.
He's also starting me on Wellbutrin, which will hopefully assist in fighting the food cravings that get completely insane when I exercise. If it works, it will also hopefully allow me to get back to exercising without gaining weight, as I did from Aug to Oct (put on 15 pounds, five a month). It's possible the combination of the massive exercising and the added weight gain may have been what caused the fissure to flare up for the second time in a year.
And one time was, honestly, too much.
Unfortunately, my whitecoat hypertension also flared up while I was there. I'm normally 109 over 70, and it was 138 over 90-something. Hopefully that was momentary and will be OK the next time I go.
The upshot - I'm happier now than when I went in, and it's Friday, and life is good. Time to go put on my sweatpants and finish out my work day (I work at home).
Love y'all,

Just slinking around still not up to par.
Good news: colitis in remission
Bad news: think cold is coming back for round 2
Good news: went to dentist yesterday and no cavities after 3 years!
Bad news: I need a crown in my eye tooth.

Lisa - BIG (((HUGS))) These small things all add up and make life a misery. I hope you can get back to a healthy regime that suits you and makes you happy.
Nice to be listened to and respected. My DH liked the osteopath and came home far more positive. He was catastrophizing about his bad back and now he feels he understands it better and maybe can get it under control with targeted exercise. The guy is going to email the results and recommendations to him.
We had such a delicious dinner. I can't imagine giving up dinner like some of you. It is a huge part of our day and spreads over two hours or more. Sometimes I get fed up with cooking, but the last few days have been wonderful food. Probably two thirds of our plate is veggies, but soooooo delicious. Tonight was a combo of two big packets of fresh spinach and the remains of the carrot, parsnip and celeriac mash. With duck legs roasted in chipotle paste. DH had roasted new potatoes with it. No oils or fats added to anything. We are sharing a bottle of red wine. The last glass will be with an ounce of vintage cheddar. Before that there is poached pears with homemade yogurt and salted caramel sauce (just a bit). I will finish off with a couple of toffees.
All of that comes to around 950 calories, but I have exercised 950 calories today, so all good. 600 this morning and 350 on my 5k run.
Michael Mosley was back on TV recently. Walking for 30 minutes a day briskly is better for you than 10,000 slower steps. But any exercise is good for you.
Languages - I learned French at school, but failed my A level. I also learned Latin and Ancient Greek. I was not good at languages at all.
Later I visited France such a lot that my spoken French improved, especially when I found a ten year old who was happy to chat to me for two weeks! That was the turning point.
After that I went to evening classes for Spanish for five years when the kids were small and visited Spain and South America for long periods, sometimes on my own.
We both go to a French Circle twice a month.
Then in later life I discovered Duolingo and was able to revise my Spanish, pick up on the tiny bit of German I had somehow acquired over the years and learn Norwegian and Swedish. Those later languages are basic and I cannot converse properly, but I enjoy the challenge and feel I am making progress. We are going to Norway again in April, so I am ploughing on with that. There is a Norwegian series on the TV at the moment! I do it EVERY day, and that is the key. It is now just a habit, like exercise. I seem to be good at persevering. I'm of the opinion that if you do something for long enough, something will stick.
Jeg fortrekker snakker norske. That's what I tell everyone in Norway.

Heather: Congrats on the 5K and your absolutely fabulous soup. I’m happy that your DH was pleased with his visit to the osteopath.
Lisa: It sounds like you’ve found a good doctor that communicates well and listens.
Heather: We haven’t given up dinner, either. I count calories and DH doesn’t but he’s lost some weight and seems to be moving a bit better. Since he is an insulin dependent diabetic, it is important for him to have regular meals. Fasting is not a good idea. :noway:
I just got back for yoga. It was a good class and I enjoyed it.
